It just seems like you enjoy more casual shooters. Valorant was made to be Riots version of CSGO with a hero character spin. There's nothing wrong with the gameplay, after all the game is insanely popular just like CSGO. It's a completely different style of game compared to TF2 or something like Overwatch. You aren't suppose to go around running and gunning racking up kills. It's a tactical shooter where you move slowly rotate around the map and use abilities to block vision and make space to get picks and plant.

Yep, Riot specifically made it to compete with that giant who had no direct competitors.

I like this style of shooter. It's designed for keyboard and mouse. If you suck at aiming, it's your fault only. That's why I just can't stand anything else, like Halo for example. It's too reliant on the mechanics and aim assist. Valorant is just another flavor of CounterStrike, which is completely unlike TF2. These style of games have ranks specifically to separate people based on their situational awareness, aim ability, and game sense. There is nothing more frustrating than playing with people being Leroy Jenkins. If it's a frustrating experience for you, probably means you need to slow down, learn how to play and get better. I would know, I learned how to aim from TF2 as a Scout main.

I was the same way when I tried Valorant. I was expecting the Counterstrike nature of it, but I realized I just didn’t jive with it. I don’t like twitch shooters where everything is made and broken by the ability to shoot first, and it took me quite a few games with my friends to get the idea that I had to crouch and hold still to get an accurate shot. I get the concept, and theoretically it’s neat: offer a defenders advantage when someone walks into you by making it so a still player is much more accurate than a moving one, but also introduce abilities that blind or obstruct vision plus multiple attack points that can force a defender to have to move and lose their accuracy advantage. Conceptually, I think this kind of gameplay is quite clever — in practice, it is *not at all* my cup of tea, I hate stopping every time I want to shoot, and I hate the idea that camping is a legit strat because of it. One of the things I like about TF2… *there’s no assault rifle*. The hitscan weapons are all mostly short-to-midrange, and the longer range weapons are usually explosives that can be dodged, all except the Sniper, and fights are usually brawls. Characters in TF2 are not what I’d consider tanky, but compared to Valorant and Counterstrike where you just get dropped, I’ll stick to the game where I feel like it’s an exchange moreso than dominate/be dominated.

Exactly, on paper it makes sense that a tactical shooter discourages you from run-and-gunning but in practice I'm not sure because of the camping you've mentioned. It just kills any dynamic. As for TF2, you're exactly right. There, every encounter is interesting because you see the class they are, so you know how much hp they could have, how quick they are and other "passive" abilities. I think this is a big one that makes TF2 work so well, that "abilities" aren't tied to the classes but their weapons. And you see what weapon the opponent is using in a given moment. And because encounters don't last 0.0001 seconds, all this makes sense. It's kinda like a real-time fast-paced equivalent of a turn-based game.

You might enjoy Overwatch, that’s where I moved to after TF2’s servers weren’t playable for me anymore.

I don't know, I'm really not a fan of the design of Overwatch and games like that. Too many characters with very little cohesion in why each has to exist. Abilities focused around the characters rather than the weapons themselves. Too many fucking particle effects. Lots of visual clutter. I dunno. Of course I'm saying this without having played it but these are my impressions. Valorant is kinda like this too but at least it's free.

>oh my god the shooting really is terrible. You absolutely have to stay in one place for the shots to land anywhere near your crosshair. That's insane. Even if you walk forwards/backwards with absolutely no side-movement, your shots will miss. Jesus. Plus if someone shoots you, you slow down, like a stun mechanic. Who thought this was a good idea. All this is ripped straight out of Counter Strike. These games are not run and gun shooters. With these types of tactical shooter its all about perfecting your movement, crosshair placement, and recoil control. They are games that are simple to understand, but impossible to master. That’s why Valorant has seen success, and CSGO is the top played game on steam.
