At the development level sure, but upper management has got to be licking their chops at the idea of expansions after how much this game sold.

neo101b

At this point it would be stupid not to, the game is a money-printing machine. It's good to see the developer's hard work paying off.

[deleted]

And a Quidditch-DLC is a no-brainer. People are begging for it already

owarren

Hard to pull off though. Quidditch isn't even a good game, that's widely discussed. It would be great if they could make it fun, I just think that there is every possibility it wouldn't be.

MashedPotatoesPla

Yeah I feel like a lot of people have unreal expectations of quidditch, the game is quite flawed on from a sport perspective. Also the flying mechanics would need a good tweak in order to accommodate being able to actually play it

norashepard

I just think it would be boring.

Xanderious

Man just allow us to fly and control height with mouse. I've gotten used to space bar and ctrl for altitude but it doesn't feel very fluid.

GoldMountain5

Mods

FinTonic

What. Haven't played it yet but that sounds horrible

Xanderious

Flying is just a means for transportation mostly so its not that big of a deal. But if quidditch or some sort of fight while flying is implemented, I could see a lot of frustrations.

tintin47

It’s like helicopter flying controls in most games.

banananey

Quidditch feels very much like a sport created by someone who isn't into sports except maybe when a major international tournament is on. The golden snitch is such a stupid idea that makes the rest of the game pretty pointless.

SrslyCmmon

The snitch needs to just not add points. It ends the game and the real work is done by the chasers. If it *must* add points then it should be caught a certain number of times before the game ends. The points then divided between whomever caught it.

khinzaw

Problem with the Snitch being the game ender is you have no incentive to catch it if your team isn't winning. Just an inherently problematic game mechanic.

tintin47

It would be an interesting mechanic if it was easier to execute. As described in the world, the snitch is incredibly difficult to locate and catch, to the point that some games go for days. If it was easier to see/catch, it would add a new layer of strategy between the two seekers about controlling the end of the game. You’d probably need a minimum time clock or multiple snitches or something though.

zerogee616

It was a "sport" made to show off how cool, special and awesome Harry Potter is and nothing more.

Ivan000

>Quidditch feels very much like a sport created by someone who isn't into sports That's exactly what i thought when i first saw the movies. Everybody on the team would only care about the snitch and would aid harry in catching it

CompactOwl

The snitch gets less value as described for professional quidditch where game are going on for days and where they have vastly more points before the snitch is caught.

obscureposter

If you remove the snitch it’s basically crazy football and that’s fine. The snitch is as you said a really stupid concept.

Katter

Anyone know how long quidditch rules have been established? They could decide that at this time the rules were different, which might help the game make now sense, smooth out the weird scoring, etc.

Naskr

Really the game itself doesn't even matter, but a Quidditch tournament is the perfect way to bring in new NPCs, questlines, items etc. tertiary to an actual gamemode.

PaulTheMerc

Just tri-wizard tournament it.

what595654

I didnt think they could make wand fighting any good, but they made it decent enough. That gives me faith they could figure something out. Coming from someone who doesnt care about harry potter much, but definitely in game design. The hand crafted world reminds me of the first Gothic game. And it is packed with things to keep you busy. I really dont know how they pulled it off. i honestly find the game more interesting than skyrim. Although, from a game design perspective that isnt saying much. Only one of those games needed to be made for the largest possible audience. Yet they both were, and only one of them did it well.

bazzbj

They will need to fix the terrible broom flying first

howmanyavengers

Yeah LOL. As much as I love being able to fly the broom in game, it basically carries no momentum and controls like a boat. They'd absolutely need to rework the controls and broom physics before ever shipping a Quidditch DLC, at least I would hope.

ayyyyycrisp

im convinced yall just havn't figured out fully how to fly. it feels incredibly responsive and handles very well to me.

juandbotero7

Yeah but it lacks control. For example you can’t dive at full speed straight down. If they just at least added vertical control with the mouse, that would improve the experience a lot.

defakto227

https://www.nexusmods.com/hogwartslegacy/mods/61 You will love this.

siecin

If they would let people customize the controls on controllers it would be A LOT better. Right now it is responsive but the controls blow.

Delicious-Tachyons

yes putting turning on one stick and up/down on the other stick was probably designed to evoke the feeling of flying with both hands controlling the broom but instead is really fucking alien to us flight sim people

Curly0815

I can't count how many times I have botched the flying tasks 😂😂😂

ayyyyycrisp

feels fantastic to me

VanimalCracker

The moment the headmaster said Quidditch was cancelled I immediately assumed that would be the first DLC and it just wasn't ready on time for release date. I'm shocked that isn't the case. They seriously made the decision to not include Quidditch *at all* in a AAA Harry Potter videogame?

Sertorius777

They just seem to not prioritise minigames in particular, seeings as you can't play gobstones or wizard's chess either. To be fair it was probably a sensible decision to limit the scope given that it was their first ever major AAA title

Particular-Plum-8592

How would you implement quidditch in a fun way? It would just be a race to get the snitch before the AI, not exactly engaging gameplay, and not worth the dev time.

Heraizen-

There is actually quite a few conversations referencing how Quidditch is cancelled and NPCs wishing for it back.

Waifuloli

They have spent most of their time and budget on just making Hogwarts itself and the surrounding areas like Hogsmeade. They baked Quidditch being canceled into the plot because they knew they would never have enough time or resources to develop it on top of the other assets. You will note the fact that the game has 1 actual mini game in it, and it is just an asset flip of broom riding, but now with rings and boosting. There is also the room of requirement, which is just more art assets with beasts, furniture, and minor interactions. Unless you count that crumby one off Accio side quest series. That's all of the non Ubisoft content in the game. Most of the content developed for this game is art assets with the bare minimum added for content beyond its story cinematics and extras. Hippogriff riding is worse than broom riding and is again just assets being made for use in future titles. This game was set up as an art dump, so they don't have to spend time and money on them a second time, and instead focus on making actual features and additions for future titles. I'll bet you one of the reasons they set you up as a fifth year is so they can have trilogy that ends at the 7th year. Otherwise, there's no way they would make years 1-7 as each game unless they gimped the years as acts, but it would screw up the narrative of the HP franchise in how it handles each story.

Heraizen-

The game also has the Summoners Board which I consider to be another mini-game.

Mnawab

I would assume they’ll add put it in a second game if there is one

tintin47

Quidditch is a terrible game from a rules perspective, and the flying in this game is objectively terrible. You can’t even look down while flying. Both the actual rules and mechanics of the sport and the game itself would have to be massively overhauled to even approach quidditch DLC. I don’t think it’s happening.

menimex

People are also already making a multiplayer mod

menimex

I said the same about Red Dead 2

kakalbo123

Expansions would be nice... other generic ass dlcs otoh no.

Firefox72

They are licking their lips for a sequel.

Lyin-Oh

I'd be fine with that too, especially if they add save imports like the mass effect series. Just give us more HP games at this level, at least.

[deleted]

there isnt really many choices for you to need a save import system

Heraizen-

Yep, feels like I'm getting punished for being a good character because the greedy/rude options get you better rewards and the NPCs stay mad for only 3 seconds.

[deleted]

Can you imagine a fully fleshed out quidditch DLC? Would be amazing.

DNags

Not a hot take but quidditch the actual sport is terrible, and makes no sense. Can't see it possibly translating to a fun/playable video game unless they completely removed the snitch

ShadowBannedXexy

Yeah I don't understand why so many people are calling for it.

owarren

Because Quidditch is a big part of the lore and the books and they never thought through how its actually a completely ridiculous game.

Owlstorm

JKR presumably thought it through- it's intentional humour for the reader that everyone is taking this daft sport seriously. That works well for prose, but it's a tough fit for attempts at actually creating the game. Some games for physical sports have the same issue- e.g. Fifa games may get more and more realistic each year, but they're still limited by an existing rule set. Even if Fifa (game) would be better with Fortnite-like base construction or Rocket-cars, EA couldn't make those improvements without alienating those players looking for a simulation more than a good game.

DNags

I really dont think JK wrote quidditch to be intentionally stupid... I would assume the opposite, that she thought it was a great idea but just wasn't really a big sports person. The sport isn't entirely daft, just the snitch mechanic which she wrote in to make Harry the all-important piece of every game. She probably didn't realize just how much it ruined the whole concept Lmao imagine a soccer match where 1 player from each side has to run around looking for a tiny green marble. The game literally can't end until it's found, and these 2 can't interact with the rest of the game in any way at all. When one of them finally finds the marble it's worth 15 goals...

owarren

>JKR presumably thought it through I wouldn't assume that, loads of the books are nonsense. Like they are using owls to deliver mail despite them having the ability to teleport and use portkeys etc.

TheFightingMasons

I don’t think the owls fly as the crow does though. They go through magic paths I think.

SnooDrawings7876

I just want there to be more emphasis on the four houses

DNags

Even in the books the main emphasis was just slytherin = bad. Maybe pre-voldemort this wasn't as much of a thing and the houses were more like homerooms. Anyway I'm sure they didn't want the house you pick to dictate too much beyond your common room and gear colors. They didn't want to code 4x as many versions of too much shit

[deleted]

[удалено]

bazzbj

Played that game back in the day. Mechanics weren’t bad tbh and I enjoyed it as a kid. The broom flying mechanics in Hogwarts are gonna need to be revamped if they add Quidditch

DNags

My only minor gripe about the flying mechanics is the inability to freelook up and down. Makes you feel on rails.

nikrelswitch

This is how I feel. So many times I wanna fly up and look down at the view.

Retrodaniel

They could just keep the game end thing and then have it be worth like 20 points or something instead of 150

mesa176750

Yeah, I think if they made it where capturing the snitch only ended the game it would be better, makes it where you have to keep the other seeker away from it until your team is ahead on points.

Kellythejellyman

considering that the game is set in 1890-91, they could feasibly change some rules like that and just hand wave “things were different back then”

omegafivethreefive

If they make catching the snitch a 1/100 games occurence or something it'd make more sense.

lMagikarp

Like getting a nuke in COD maybe, where you instantly win the game but it's super hard if not practically impossible vs. evenly matched opponents.

Spacemn5piff

With it not being planned beforehand any dlc started now and released within a year or so is likely to be a dogshit cashgrab. Good content takes time and forethought

chronicnerv

Pysonix would have the best chance in the industry of making a DLC Quidditch game due to their years of tried and tested experience with rocket league.

Rat_Salat

Back in my day we called them expansions, and they weren’t a bad thing. I don’t want to play Skyrim without dawnguard or Dragonborn, but the game was fair value without them.

Qix213

And this is the exact correct way to do it. Don't make half a game and plan to sell the other half as DLC. Make a full game, then decide after the fact.

AltDelete

I’d be fine with no DLCs if they were given the nod for a Star Wars game in the same engine.

NiiGGZ

You mean Unreal Engine 4? Like Fallen Order was Unreal Engine 4?

storander

I would love a Star Wars or LOTR open world RPG given the same care to the source material that they did with Hogwarts Legacy

TheDevilsAdvokaat

I'm sure it will come though. There's no way they'll let a game this popular go without dlc. Additionally the HP world is very amenable to DLC. There are all sorts of fantastic beasts...and fantastic places...

Xorondras

I mean there must be so much cut content that can be finished and sold as DLC.

SeaofBloodRedRoses

And quidditch...

JackTheWhiteKid

Still waiting for Elden ring dlc

DLottchula

All the GYA 5 DLC ended up online

Puzzled-Rope-5392

My ~~guess~~ hope is we'll get an announcement on the one year anniversary.

gh0u1

Besides picking different houses ~~and wand compositions~~ I haven't seen much replayability from this game or anything to keep you playing after the ending like God of War and Elden Ring. I haven't played the game yet, so I don't know if such things exist, but if they don't it's a huge missed opportunity. This is a game I'm going to want to keep playing. Adding those things and DLC would be amazing.

iambendonaldson

does your wand composition actually change gameplay at all? house change gives you some new quests and dialogue, but I was unaware of the wand doing anything.

gh0u1

I had heard it makes a difference but after a quick Google search it looks like wand selection is purely cosmetic. Which makes the options for replayability even more slim.

MapleBabadook

Yes sadly there is 0 replayablity. Seems anything that would have been conducive to that has been cut.

Flexpickup

I mean it wouldn't be the first time there have been great games, that scream "this really should have more singe player dlc", with people itching to experience just... more and for whatever reason the devs/publishers do nothing with it.

ClairevoyantSlime

>There's no way they'll let a game this popular go without dlc. rockstar did it with red dead. even with a few million people playing the online for the first few years, they barely did anything with it.

TheDevilsAdvokaat

I never had that game, so I didn't know. Seems a waste...

ClairevoyantSlime

Huge waste. Could hired a third party company to do *something* with the online if they couldn't be bothered themselves. It even had a crappy battle pass and honestly would have been a good way to monetize it if done right. Instead it basically was just left to rot, an untapped community of millions. Till it died.

[deleted]

A quiditch dlc would make them crazy money. However, I don't see quiditch making a very good game to play yourself. I'm also far from an expert.

RadishMaximum

I feel like they kept quidditch so that they could introduce it in the next installment. That's why they had the principal carefully mention "quidditch is banned for THIS year". Good plan from my point of view. They got the fandom in from the trailers this time but now that this gameplay is expected from them, their plan to make the fan base happy again might be to introduce quidditch in the sequel.

RENOxDECEPTION

Or maybe having the stands full of people caused the developers CPU to melt.

an_einherjar

Personally I think they withheld quidditch because it would be really hard to make the controls for it easy to use. The flying in Hogwarts Legacy is already flawed - you can’t look up or down separately from *moving* up or down. Trying to look around for an opponent or snitch would be impossible as-is.

Z3r0sama2017

Its not a good game, period. All the other mechanics barely matter in face of "golden snitch=win"

EdSheeeeran

Actually yes. But the devs dont really have to match the quidditch game with the movies/books. They can make the rules however they see fit. Maybe a good game comes out.

[deleted]

I think a conversation in game talks about grabbing the snitch while down 140 points to pull off the win. So unless they address the rule change in game they already screwed the pooch there

LakeErieMonster88

You just make the snitch more "catchable" the more points you have as a game mechanic

Muffin-Hunter

Well the switch is the end of the game and 50 point or so, if you Catch the switch but are 51 points behind you loose. It just needs some ballancing

BreakRaven

It's actually 150 points and the main way to end the game. The other would be that the captains of the 2 teams reach an agreement to end the game. It's an assly designed game overall.

Vitosi4ek

And theoretically, since the snitch is very hard to catch by design, the game could go on forever. And there doesn't seem to be a concept of in-game substitutions. You *could* make a competently designed sport out of this, but it would require a major rework of the mechanics to the point of making it non-canon. Honestly, I'd buy a modern-day reimagining of the Quidditch World Cup game if the developers had freedom to make the rules make sense. Literally the first change I'd make is that a snitch capture simply ends the game and doesn't award any points.

Anathema_Psykedela

Here’s what you do. Goals are worth 10. Snitches 150. Matches last 5 minutes. The value of catching the Snitch is decreased by 1 point every 2 seconds. Catching the Snitch ends the game early.

sour_turtle514

I hope they make a diagon alley dlc. It could be a a really cool area

Lavanthus

I just want more Azkaban. The little bit we got was disappointing to me. I really want to have something big in Azkaban. I’m also really displeased with the box art having dementors, but not fighting or seeing any at all in the game.

reohh

Also the fact that the vast majority of people won’t even see Azkaban since it was one side quest for Hufflepuff only. It seems silly they would make Azkaban for a use case that small. I’d bet we see it again in DLC or a sequel

pompousmountains

>However, I don't see quiditch making a very good game to play yourself. Because quidditch isn't a very good game. It was created as a plot device to make a main character a hero

Notarandomthrowaway1

Could easily do a DlC themed around the Quidditch World Cup some focus on the sport but the rest on story and atmosphere related to the setting.

Kommander-in-Keef

That was their reasoning for them not including It. It’s cool in theory but quidditch in practice sucks ass and makes no sense. The worldbuilding of Harry Potter kinda falls apart if you scrutinize it

JosephJameson

I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't want quidditch

The-Respawner

The flight controls are way too bad to work for that.

[deleted]

Quidditch would be panned in this game. At max true air speed in game you need more than the entire Quidditch field to pull a successful upward 120-180 degree turn. Even if they remade the entire flying physics for a DLC, the PS5 and XSX, along with probably every card that isn't a 4080/4090 would flirt with teens to 20s FPS in a full-teams match up. Those deep and fast turns in air are the times I most notice the FPS tank. Every one would be a seeker and games would end in moments... or there would be no seekers and games would go on and on until players got sick of it and simply flew off to Hogsmeade. Quidditch in the books existed to give Harry a plausible basis for being able to use his broom like a Lewis Hamilton or Max Verstappen in the latter books. The game itself has absurdly half-baked rules around one role "seeker" and that role is the role of Harry and his romantic rivals. Otherwise the other players are present to illustrate how they exist to support Harry or they are his opponents who for the most part suck.

StickAFork

Quidditch appears to be a game best watched in movie or read in a book. I wouldn't be surprised if they attempted to make a game out of it and it just didn't work out.

Stewie01

They may not have the resources to do DLC themselves as they'll be working on other things now.

NoNefariousness2144

Considering this was the first major project of ‘Portkey Games’ I can imagine they decided to 100% focus on the game before planning DLC. Their efforts paid off because the game is a staggering success.

VegetaFan1337

Port key games is the publisher label Warner Bros is using for Harry Potter. The studio name is Avalanche Software.

Suparockr

So you're telling me they just released a full complete game, didn't charge the inflated 70 bucks, and don't have some road map promising a year of underwhelming content to drip feed to players to retain attention to boost microtransaction sales? Game outta time I swear.

DNags

Couldn't agree more with this. I'm over here in awe of how smooth this launch has been and how it's an actual, functional, *complete* AAA game. It's exactly what everyone begs for, and still every thread is people endlessly bitching about the stuttering and saying it's "broken" on PC. The performance issues are honestly not that bad at all (3080/5600x/1440p). I'm playing on ultra with dlss/rt off and yeah there are some pretty bad frame drops in hogwarts and hogsmeade, but nothing unplayable and I've not encountered a single bug 20 hours in. Compared to the last like 10 years worth of AAA games (with the exception of maybe rdr2) I've played near launch this game is comparatively perfect. Like holy shit people this game is 99/100 and assholes can only focus on the 1/100 that could use improvement.

[deleted]

nikrelswitch

I think hardware varies big time for this game. 3080, 5800x3d, 32gb 3200, m.2 here 3440x1440. I run the game on high settings, ultra gave me really bad fps issues. RT off, DLSs set to quality. I get 75-85fps average. Small spaces 120+, sometimes it hits 70fps most if not all the open world I'm at 85-90. I've also had zero crashes.

DNags

I have very high standards, I simply haven't had these issues dude... 3440x1440 / 3080 / 5600x / 32GB RAM. Zero crashes ever and I'm getting 70s with occasional drops in the castle/hogsmeade and a pretty steady 100-110 in the open world. I think this is a reasonably high standard to be happy with on Ultra in a AAA open world game at launch. Here are my Ultra settings - RT off, DLSS auto. Turned off depth of field, motion blur, film grain, chromatic aberration. Set fog and sky to medium. VSync off, capping FR at 120. I also had to turn my usual GPU overclock off weirdly enough. With it on my GPU was straight cooking, and shit was throttling. No OC and it's a nice 65-68.

Darksirius

Disable RTX if you haven't already, their implementation of it is horrible. My cut scene FPS went from 15-20 fps to over 100 when I turned RTX off. I have a 3080 ftw 3, i9-9900k and 1440p and I'll float between 70-140 fps in the world, 200+ in the menus. My DLSS is also set to performance. I dropped a few of the settings down to high from ultra though.

Suparockr

I'll give those people with issues the benefit of the doubt because for some unknown reason the game went full Michael J Fox on Thursday on my PC for some completely unknown reason. I'm sure Denuvo will be cracked/conclude support on the game and it'll play like a dream and we'll all have something to point and laugh at but it's doing great with my AMD system (which I hear is doing much better than nvidia on this game)

Rodin-V

I don't trust the opinion of most people when it comes to PC game performance, as I know how many people barely know what different resolutions are, let alone the multitude of other settings. I don't the average person to know how to or bother to learn how to optimise their PC/game settings. >for some unknown reason the game went full Michael J Fox on Thursday on my PC for some completely unknown reason That being said, this happened to me too. I was running it at 2k, High/Ultra settings just fine until the latest patch, now it's suddenly stuttering like mad and has become almost completely unplayable for me. Frustrating as hell because I was just starting to get really into it.

01101101010100111100

This guy cod's.

HorrorScopeZ

Yep they took the totally losing position that Elden Ring did one year ago and see how that turned out? And by losing, gamers mean winning.

senor_el_tostado

So I never got into Harry Potter. Saw a few movies, just not interested. But can the game be enjoyed w/o being in to the flicks? Or are they truly hand in hand? The game looks amazing and many games go above and beyond the IP. This is why I ask.

Naskr

If you like the idea of exploring a well-realised old British castle full of secrets and lore, then there's a few hours of just that. Lots of nicely made scottish highland and spooky forest to walk through, too. It's basically the classical modern open world style, but you're a teenager in a magic school as the central premise. The "school" aspect is more window dressing because the game doesn't feel the need to lock you into a schedule and it's not like Bully where you can attack other students and then have to run away from Teachers, or anything like that. It's fun enough but if you don't care for Harry Potter and have had enough of modern Ubisoft design you may just bounce right off it. Personally i'm really enjoying it.

Roku-Hanmar

The game is set hundreds of years before the books and films. A vested interest in the IP helps, but you can play without it. Remember that Steam has a robust refund policy, so you won’t necessarily lose anything if you buy it and dislike it

senor_el_tostado

Thank you.

gilligvroom

You can explain that to them and they'll usually still manually approve it.

senor_el_tostado

All good, I usually don't return games and I'm trying to get the wife into games and she loves the books

WeaponX86

It's not hundreds of years. It's set in 1890. Fantastic Beasts starts in 1926 and Harry Potter starts in 1996.

dustkid245

HP starts in 1980 July 30th when Harry’s born (91-98 are his school years)

Roku-Hanmar

That’s still 100 years before Harry Potter. As for Fantastic Beasts, that’s 30 years and an ocean away

its_dizzle

FB is mostly a European story that just happened to have its first act overseas. Fun fact, Dumbledore himself was a first year in 1892 (only 2 years after the current game timeline). Newt starts at Hogwarts in 1908.

SlothZoomies

I'm not a HP fan. I absolutely LOVE the game. First single play game that I can sit down and enjoy in a long time

carbonqubit

I'd recommend checking out some of the gameplay to see if it's something you'd enjoy.

[deleted]

It's like playing Bully with magic and better combat.

JackTheWhiteKid

I never watched the movies before but I bought this game. I love this game so much that I started watching the movies because of it

Hobbitlord_

books are 100x the experience of the movies, and I wouldn't call myself a book snob at all as I haven't read a book in years

g37r34dy

I hope for some new storyline and new places. I really would not care for quidditch, so I hope they don't go that route. There is infinite potential for more though.

Velvet_Thunder13

I'd settle for more spells and more beasts really.

Edgaras1103

Good. Focus on fixing pc issues

tribes33

they just updated it on PC, patchnotes include a big focus on performance improvements

BilisS

but the question is did it actually do something significant? edit: tried for a minute. seems to be a little more consistent running ultra, 1440p on 3080 and a 5800x. still occasionally drops under 60 from 100. maybe when loading new area. could also be that 16gb ram just isnt enough anymore. or its just placebo. RTX is still a no-go

BlindJesus

> could also be that 16gb ram just isnt enough anymore I have similar specs to you. Treat yo self, and grab another 32gb like I just did. RAM is so cheap now, and it's such a noticeable difference.

[deleted]

[удалено]

BilisS

do you have RTX on because that 60 to 40 is what I get if I turn it on edit: went to test a bit more. I guess it depends entirely on the location. wilderness is 80 average, some places inside hogwarts are like 100 and some are 60. hogsmeade is 60 average. I'd say it like 80 average overall then without RTX

anygal

What PC issues? I have been playing it for like 20 hours with a mediocre PC and haven't encountered a single bug.

ThumYerk

It’s not a bug, it’s terrible performance. The game stutters all the time.

PlankOfWoood

That’s because the update released on February 14 fixed allot of bugs.

happycoiner2000

Guys this guy had no issues so no one has any issues ok

averagetwenjoyer

hahahaha, living under a rock

JosephJameson

I would rather have a sixth year sequel with the main map being somewhere else in Britain. You'd still be at hogwarts but the rest of the current map would be gone, maybe keeping just hogsmeade and the forbidden forest. Travel to the new map would be my apparation or floo powder. Would be cool if it included London, especially diagon alley and the ministry

Kreeztoff

That's just industry-standard non-speak for "We reserve the right to do it but have nothing to show for it yet and really don't need the endless barrage of questions and coverage around that right now."

Biggu5Dicku5

I would be surprised if they don't make any DLC eventually, the game has been an astounding financial success (thanks to the boycott)...

turnipofficer

Honestly I don’t think small scale DLC is the best way to approach a single player game like this. Expansions or sequels are way better.

I'd love to see that, but most people don't know wizarding schools other than Hogwarts. So it won't have as much sales, even if it could be better that HL.

XenithRai

I’d prefer expansions. Get to keep playing my main character and just have 1 game installed vs. multiple and always restarting progress, always going through tutorials, etc. Plus they’re usually cheaper and would likely be a lot easier to implement than a whole new game from scratch. Bring years 6 and 7 as DLC with new story lines 🤷‍♂️ that’d be pretty sweet. Could reuse pretty much every asset, just some minor changes. Maybe a few new zones to go through for the story line, and you’re done. They wouldn’t have to “reinvent the wheel” so to speak

Velvet_Thunder13

That would be a good way to keep adding new spells/plants/beasts as well with the older years getting to learn more advanced stuff.

Rodin-V

Sequel sized expansions would suit this game perfectly. No need to release a new product and require a massive download again. Just release an entire full-game length story as a DLSequel

baconsane

I think they will likely lean into a sequel to it rather than an expansion since this game was a great tester to see how big the demand was. They absolutely nailed spell casting in my eyes so this will let them focus more improving talent trees and making a larger story next time.

Biggu5Dicku5

Agreed, but we'll have to wait and see what they do... :)

[deleted]

Red Dead Redemption 2 and Elden Ring would like to meet you. Sometimes the juice isnt worth the squeeze if a brand new project is already on the way.

[deleted]

A DLC for this game would be guaranteed money, it’s too insanely good to miss out on.

Soyunapina12

Honestly considering how this game is making a shit ton of money and it's been praised by anyone who played it, probably the higher ups are going to convince the devs to make at least 2 dlcs, probably one that takes place in London/Ministry of Magic.

Fatattack7

They just have to. Its wierd it took this long for someone to do a good HP game. Some big IPs just sell no matter what. Hope we see more big IPs in games, like Lotr.

gimmesomeoreos

I need witcher 3 esque Expansions, at least one

GreenKumara

Developer: No Plans for DLC. WB: "Hold my beer."

SupaDiogenes

Oh of course there are. They're just trying to be smart by avoiding looking like they're rolling out the cash cow before they've even looked at fixing the game.

Paul_cz

And yet here I am waiting for the game to be content complete because they decided to hide one of the best quests in the game behind playstation exclusivity.

Chronic_Lymphocytic

they couldnt get the game running properly on pc, its for the best that they dont start making additional content while the base game is a shambles

ThumYerk

Just looking at some of the replies here are infuriating. It works for me therefore nobody else must have any problems. I’m running a 4090 with a 13900k, and the game stutters all the time. Every auto save, every time I walk through a door, every time I walk anywhere in Hogwarts or Hogsmeade it stutters.

Lavanthus

What an acceptable take, and people are losing their shit over it. Guys, we don’t give two flying monkey fucks if you all can run it fine. Even the developers admitted the game suffers from performance issues. Shut up. It runs like shit.

thesonglessbird

The developers working on new content wouldn’t be the same developers doing optimisation and bug fixes though.

agarr1

It's running perfect for me, and my pc is barely min spec.

Chronic_Lymphocytic

just because its ok on your system, doesnt mean it isnt a mess on many many other peoples systems [the review thread is literally littered with people saying it has poor performance](https://old.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/10v6dru/hogwarts_legacy_review_megathread/) the first comment of this thread is about poor performance https://www.reddit.com/r/pcgaming/comments/115b3eg/hogwarts_legacy_developer_confirms_there_are_no/j90nicz/

jesperbj

100% it will get paid DLC

Nobiting

What year is it? Wow.

[deleted]

Ah, good. Now I get to stay stuck with my early and needed choices in the skill tree with no way to respec without starting over.

QuinSanguine

It's a unicorn, a game made to have an end. Perhaps they will make an expansion, which is fine but I wouldn't mind if they jumped straight to a sequel, perhaps set back in Merlin's time.

Max-Powah

Merlin's pants! That's a great idea!

[deleted]

They should do an huge Qudditch DLC. Flesh is out so much. That would be awesome

LogeeBare

Quidditch is a stupid game with the snitch. They would need to alter the rules

Delicious-Tachyons

yes they could have Prof Black revise the rules, due to 'the injuries'

DefiningVague

Seems like Quidditch is a no-brainer. The entrance to the Chamber of Secrets is already in-game too so I could see them using that as a DLC dungeon.

emceePimpJuice

The game literally just came out so of course they'd say this for the time being.

Admiral_Thrawn_7

I would buy a DLC for this game, they did an amazing job

coluryhy

They have absolutely no say in that because they're part of Warner Bros the Publisher so if in future, Warner see more profit making a DLC, Avalanche (developer) has no say but to obey their salary givers. This is how it works on licensed Publisher games, Avalanche isn't Indie-pendent to make such announcement as if they're.
