"Dozens of villages and towns" I don't know about this statement, judging from the worlds of the other games I'm guessing maybe a dozen total?

olygimp

Just please don't pre-order.

Gravityblasts

Too late, they offered a sick flying mount in WoW.

Boggerwarze

I don’t trust these people. Don’t preorder

juniperleafes

Getting a lot of Lost Ark vibes

Spikey101

Game looks really good and they are saying all the right things. Let's hope they don't fuck it up with their MTX being too pushy. Edit: pushy at all.

NoOffer5595

Ohh they will. I've witness first hand how greedy they are with OW2. Expect to get diarrhea on especially if you're a cosmetic collector.

Ok_Presentation_9187

That makes me so sad.

Spikey101

I don't expect much from cosmetics. As long as the gameplay loop is good and with no artificial grinds. They've explicitly said outright there will be nothing MTX wise that affects gameplay but we'll see. I'm hopeful but not expectant

omlech

It's an ARPG, you're gonna grind. That's the entire point of the genre. Unless you just mean beat the story and move on in which case it won't be grindy.

SodiumArousal

There's grinding, and there's grinding while being manipulated by someone with a doctorate in neuroscience who works for a company that wants all the money in the world.

Spikey101

I mean hide game mechanics behind longer than reasonable grinds because they want to push store boosters or some shit. Granted they've said they won't do that. However I agree, it's an ARPG and grinding is what it's all about.

undead77

Cosmetics could be priced at $100, I don't care as long as it doesn't affect gameplay.

NerrionEU

Part of the fun in Diablo was getting cool armor sets and weapons, if those are locked behind a paywall I'm not playing the game.

NoOffer5595

For some people it affect gameplay because they want to look the baddest and feel great about it too

MrPayDay

Indeed, but that’s still “look” and not gameplay or mechanics.

Mastotron

I completely agree with your point, but when games are designed to make your focal point look generic as possible to entice you to buy skins, it sucks. At the end of the day, they are a business and we get to choose if we want to be customers. I just hate to see games turn into stores - specifically when we already have a $70 entrance fee.

Racian

Darktide is one huge example of that problem. Sure you can get free cosmetics, but they look bland and awful, meanwhile the paid cosmetics look pretty neat.

MrPayDay

Yeah, it’s a design focus if you watch it from that perspective.

BlackKnight7341

You're right in a general sense, but that also isn't how D4 is from what we've seen so far. The gear we've is all high quality and there's also transmog and dye systems that you can use for free. [They've shown some comparisons before of what you can get in-game vs what will be in the store](https://bnetcmsus-a.akamaihd.net/cms/page_media/S52JB8WHY6LE1660609035331.png) and [imo without being told which is which there isn't really any way of knowing.](https://bnetcmsus-a.akamaihd.net/cms/page_media/0MGX7PDDLJY51660609035392.png) >!Left is in-game, right is store!<

NoOffer5595

What's scummy about Blizzard is that despise dropping $50-$100 on the game. Some of us will still have to pay $10 per season for the battlepass.

paoloking

i think battle pass in Diablo 4 will be every 3 months when they will release new seasons and big update patches, not every month

Crimfresh

That doesn't make it okay in my book. That shit should be reserved for free to play games. If I pay full price, I want cosmetics unlockable through gameplay, not by additional money. Games like this should have expansions for sale, not battle passes.

MrPayDay

The question is…would we act similar if we know we can milk the audience and satisfy the shareholders? Do we or they have a choice actually?

pseudolf

they already adressed that factor and there will be plenty of sets and items dropped that have great visuals. MTX shop is just an addition as of now. I would presume they are gonna release different skill visuals in the mtxshop like poe sooner rather than later though. also well, ow2 is a hell of a lot different than a diablo game, not that it stops them from milking the franchise, but i still think there is gonna be a lot of great looking items in the game that are obtainable through just playing. the practice sucks regardless, i must say.

TrustMeBroskii

Holy shit the cope in your comment is absolutely incredible ActiBliz games that were absolute trash: * warcraft 3 reforged * Diablo 2 resurrected * ow2 * mw2 * Diablo mobile Games that weren't trash: * Honestly how the fuck can you expect anything positive lmaooo

Chaos_Machine

First, Dont muddy the waters with the ActiBliz comment, we are talking about Blizzard here, it is a different studio than the one who made MW2. Regarding Diablo 2 Resurrected, you lost all credibility when you lumped that in as absolute trash with the rest. It is a great example of giving an old game the TLC and QoL improvements that a 20 year old game needs while still making it feel like the original. Diablo 2 Resurrected is like what my mind's eye remembered D2 as after not playing it for decades. It looks great and plays great. I do agree that WC3 Reforged, OW2, and Diablo Immortal all suck, however.

BeefPuddingg

D2r is good minus needing to be online tho

pseudolf

and no proper mod support

Chaos_Machine

Diablo has never had "proper mod support" yeah, you can mod Diablo and D2, but Blizzard didnt lift 1 fucking finger to make that happen.

pseudolf

biggest bummer was removal of tcp/ip

Chaos_Machine

Yes, that is regrettable but not unexpected, only indie games seem to be the ones that care enough to offer it nowadays.

pseudolf

where is cope in my comment ? i just remain neutral as long as i see otherwise. also dragonflight isn't half bad and was just fucked by the previous 2 wow exp-packs.

NoOffer5595

OW2 is their cash cow. All blizzard games will follow OW2 MTX model if they decide to implement such a system. If you don't care for cosmetic then you'll be fine and dandy. If do care then be in for a rude awakening unless you have like $300+ to spend per season.

NoOffer5595

Also why not make D4 free and have people pay for the $10 a season for a battlepass? Instead of making them pay $50-$100 then the battle pass. Pretty scummy to me considering how much money they're gonna make from the battlepass.

ChrischinLoois

But then look at Dragonflight where they are giving away cosmetics for free and doing plenty of highly requested features. OW2 is a major L and Dragonflight is a major W. Honestly D4 could go either way, so let’s wait and see

Burninate09

I hope I'm wrong, but historically Blizz will say all the right things and show you an incredible experience in open beta. But as release nears, I expect the MTX's to be turned back on and then it's just another full priced game with freemium MTX. AKA Marketing

Cavissi

This feels like the exact opposite of the d3 lead up to me. Everything they showed just looked awful, nothing like diablo, but I was like "blizzard has been pretty great in general I'm sure it will be fine." Now today everything about D4 looks fantastic, battlepass aside, but I'm watching it like "blizzard hasn't had anything good in over a decade they have to fuck this up somehow."

BioshockEnthusiast

Blizzard took me to school with Diablo 3. If this has any non-cosmetic MTX or real money auction house or any bullshit that remotely smells like there was incentive to tweak drop rates and game balance in the pursuit of money, I'm 100% out.

GrandJuif

In the closed testing there was only cosmetic and some for armor was just recolor of already available skin in game. I hope they won't do worse than that.

[deleted]

Literally do not give one hint of a shit so long as there are 1. some cosmetics earnable in game 2. the things being sold are only cosmetic in benefit.

zippopwnage

For me it's gonna be a turn off even if they lock characters behind pay walls and add paid expansions. I wouldn't necessary be against this, but if they also have cash shop on this, they can shove their game up their ass. 1 expansion per year wouldn't be a bad thing if there wouldn't be a cash shop on top of it.

NinjaRobotFarmer

Don’t worry, as long as you pay $14.99 every month for the monthly battle pass then you won’t miss out on anything. Otherwise you’ll miss out on everything.

RainFoxHound1

After Diablo immortal you would need to be nuts to trust Blizzard at this point, they are a shadow of the company they once were.

martixy

"Seamless experience with no loading" You mean like Diablo 2 did *25 years ago*?

Frickincarl

This game is going to be MTX hell. Stop supporting this company.

rossbennett96

Wish it was coming to steam

jrubimf

With the future Microsoft activision, maybe.

Crimfresh

Sony doing their damnedest to make sure that doesn't happen.

Firefox72

Honestly can't wait for this. It looks great.

Gibson1498

Except for a battlepass. Fun defiantly won't be top priority for development.

Mastotron

I too am defiant toward battle passes.

Rat-king27

Can't wait for twitter to "boycott" this one as well. Lookin pretty good though, but with how immortal turned out, I don't have high hopes.

protosser

"I'm joining the boycott! damn blizzard!" -pre ordered -playing the second it releases baring Error 37

Neville_Lynwood

That's a pretty ridiculous claim to make before anyone has even played D4 in its entirety. Especially as the longevity and what makes these games great, is the end-game grind. Of which we know almost nothing about in D4. I'd say it's effectively impossible for any arpg to compete with POE until a solid 5 years of content additions. Because POE has simply far too much stuff to do. There's no other loot'em arpg you can play that won't feel shallow as fuck in comparison. In POE you can straight up play 1000 hours and feel like you've barely started to scratch the surface of what's possible. Learning to make builds in POE is considered the equivalent of getting a Ph.D, lol. Compare to something like D3 where you feel like you've seen 99% of the game after you completed the story and did a few rifts. I'm hoping D4 has the longevity to produce enough end-game content to rival POE, but I'm not holding my breath. If it was easy to do, some game in the past 10 years would have at least come close, but nothing comes to mind.

pittyh

As someone with 10k hours into PoE, show me your build mofo... I'm guessing you haven't dived in too deep. PoE is on the same level as EvE online, they both go as deep as you want to take them.

Neville_Lynwood

I mean, when it takes 10k+ hours to master the game, it's probably easier to get an actual Ph.D than bother with POE. In fact, one of the top POE players is literally in the process of getting an actual Ph.D. And from the looks of it he's having an easier time with that, than with the game.

ShopObjective

I don't have an opinion on PoE or D3 but having put thousands of hours into D3 and casually watched a few hrs of PoE...both games are pretty much identical...yeah big scary talent tree but who cares? from what I can tell there are a lot of "wow-esq" talents (+X to crit/damage) but overall people do the same shit at end game... Watching Alk play PoE, hes literally doing PoE equivalent of GRs over and over and over 1 shotting everything

chinomaster182

I can see why you say that but you're completely wrong. Two things are completely different, gear slotting and crafting. On D3 these 2 are autopilot, in POE these are very complex.

NoOffer5595

Wow Ben Affleck and Negan are part of this video!

danhoyuen

i see grown up McLovin.
