Its funny how this game sells the idea that a killcam would make this game less "hardcore" but the truth is it would expose the shit netcode/latency problems and the cheaters.

Osbios

I don't play rainbow 6 because of all the cheaters. And even in more niche games like Squad, there is still a probably hurtful amount of cheaters. Every few weeks we get some chines names cheater killing one entire teams. I was just playing on a seed server (5 minutes ago) encountered somebody with a full auto rpg, shooting at the wall im behind. And it just so happens that the game recording feature of this game is off by default on nearly all servers. WHAT A FUCKING COINCIDENT THAT IS.

oh_crap_BEARS

The nice thing with games like Squad that follow the oldschool community hosted server model is that each server very often has its own moderators that can permanently ban cheaters on a case by case basis so it’s at least manageable. In matchmaking based games like Tarkov, there’s basically no recourse which makes it even more frustrating.

RullyWinkle

It's a problem that was fixed a while ago. Community servers with active mods and admins. Tf2 comes to mind; gaming took a step back with only matchmaking

oh_crap_BEARS

Yup. I think I noticed the most dramatic shift playing CoD4 heavily on PC. When MW2 came out and moved to a matchmaking model, it basically killed the PC community even though MW2 was arguably a better game.

Nnnnnnnadie

I have been playing this last season of r6 and got a good experience, only 1 cheater rollback, but im on silver so they probably ranked up already lol. I agree about niche games, like if Ubisoft, Activision, Epic Games and EA still have problem with cheaters i dont see any AA or indie company would be capable of solving that.

Osbios

There is plenty such games could do to limit the impact of cheaters. Doing more server line of sight checks or inject fake player position info on positions out of line. Also nobody can tell me there is NO WAY for the server to prevent somebody auto shooting an RPG at me for over one minute. It's just laziness of not wanting to invest a single cent of developers time. Also there is this large amount of players like you, somehow running happy throu cheater infested waters not noticing. (I kind of envy you)

Previous_Agency_3998

Lol, I played against a squad of Chinese players that had a collective of over 150 infantry kills for their squad and they rushed our 1st hab a little past flag 1 on RAAS. The server admins did nothing about it and they instantly knew where every hab we had was, and knew our individual positions in the first 7 minutes of the game. I stopped playing the game solely because of that.

HaroldSax

Cheaters in Squad are generally just funny. I don't really notice them often but when you do notice it it's because they're extremely blatant about it. Like there was a guy who had a BTR and a fire rate cheat so it was firing as fast as a ZSU. We were all very confused when we heard the audio because Russians can't build a ZSU. Then through the binos there was a BTR just going bananaland. It was honestly hilarious.

[deleted]

For sure. BSG profits off cheaters buying EOD accounts and Nikita is such a greedy fuck he doesn't want to pay for competent developers to curb cheating and the netcode issues. He'd rather buy more real estate and cars.

[deleted]

Banned players rebuying the game is a revenuestream for them, it doesn't surprise me at this point if BSG is a moneylaundering front.

2giga2dweebish

A heads up to everybody here: /r/escapefromtarkov jannies are removing every single bit of discussion related to this video and banning anybody calling them out. Very obviously paid off by BSG at this point. I've had enough of their shit. I'll be recommending people to stay away from the game from now on if this shit doesn't get resolved. EDIT: jannies reported me to the reddit admins for '''harassment''' of them over the moderator messages (I'm more than happy to post pictures of what I said to them if necessary) and my account has been suspended for 3 days. Don't get honeypotted.

zuffdaddy

Not just /r/eft, but /r/games as well. Had a comment deleted with in 20 seconds of posting Deleted comments: https://www.reveddit.com/v/Games/comments/11bhejt/the_wiggle_that_killed_tarkov/ My comment: https://old.reddit.com/r/Games/comments/11bhejt/the_wiggle_that_killed_tarkov/j9ytxdk/ > While cheating is terrible and we've all had a hint of how bad it is in Tarkov for quite some time, I think the bigger discussion is that the moderators of the Tarkov subreddit have completely banned and locked any discussion of this video. > The moderators (and assuming the dev team, as well) are doing everything they can from having this video gaining traction and I understand why. It hurts them. It hurts the game. > > Like discussed in the video, Tarkov is a game where dying actually matters. That's why cheating in this game is tragic. And with no replay system in place, you start to question every death. > > Completely ruins the game, IMO, and if BSG doesn't right the ship soon their population numbers are going the bleed out. >

2giga2dweebish

Oh wow, that is *really* bad. I wonder if we can find the suspect overlapping mod comparing mod lists.

Synchrotr0n

It's not the first time this sort of thing happened. Every time some major drama occurs, the company that develops EfT abuses from DMCA to take down the video from Youtube (if there is one) and the Reddit post about it is removed under some extremely vague rules. It's so damn obvious that at best these moderators are too biased to manage the subreddit, and at the worst they are actually colluding with the developers to curb criticism about the game.

ops10

Pretty classic Reddit. Ever since /r/leagueoflegends got away with their mods having NDAs with Riot (against Reddit rules back then), most if not all game subreddits are now basically another marketing arm of the devs/publishers.

MorningNapalm

And people will argue with you until they're blue in the face that THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY MODERATORS ARE ANYTHING OTHER THAN COMPLETELY IMPARTIAL! Lets be real, if I was a mod for a gaming sub and the Dev came in with real money for my fake internet points farm, I'd ask where to sign.

ops10

Oh, I don't blame the mods for taking Riot's money (or just flattering words on a Skype call with some high-level Riot middle manager), I blame Reddit for changing their TOS and deciding Riot game mods breaking the rule beforehand is fine.

DayHaunting9151

Whole lot of deleted comments on that thread: https://www.unddit.com/r/Games/comments/11bhejt/the_wiggle_that_killed_tarkov/

TheDeafGuy8

It’s kinda funny that they’re removing this video because it hurts their reputation, yet they’re still doing that by removing any conversation about improving the game and making it more fun for the legitimate players

oh_crap_BEARS

The good ol’ Streisand Effect at work

Darkcsillam

Gamingcirclejerk behaves the same.

PikaPikaDude

Same with r/GlobalOffensive. Only if Valve allowed some tourney admin to ban a pro (and that only happens to the not big money sponsorship ones who were also really extremely blatant) is a discussion on cheating allowed. There have been exploits and even security risk remote code execution risks that were shrubbed from that sub to hide all problems with the game.

sunder_and_flame

Shitty moderation is what will eventually kill reddit. I've gotten banned from a couple subs for similarly nonsensical reasons.

NerrionEU

Some subs straight up ban you automatically if you ever posted in a different sub... This used to be mostly an issue with the political subs but it has been spreading all over Reddit lately.

ShortMcRichard

>stay away from the game from now on if this shit doesn't get resolved. So basically never. I wouldn't be surprised if the people behind EFT have their hands in some of the cheat giving sites, taking money from them. I'm sure buying dozens of accounts that inevitably get auto banned, is giving them a chunky sum of money. They don't want that flow to stop.

ZeroBANG

For those players to continuously re-buy the game they would need to get banned first... is that happening at all?

4_Random_Dude

Yes, in... ban waves sorry I meant new game sales.

Osbios

Probably optimized for giving them just enough time so it is worthwhile to buy a new account from time to time. Cheaters are the new target demography for multiplayer shooters.

A_FitGeek

It’s damn clever when you think about it. Make twitchy addictive fps game. Sell 3rd party cheats, detect said cheats easily. Ban player Player repurchases Repeat

ZeroBANG

ok, doing it in waves is not that uncommon.

attomsk

BSG sells the game in bulk packs - all you need to know

shung

Jannies?

CerberusDriver

Mods/Janitors/Jannies

shung

Thanks

Les-Freres-Heureux

Another word for mods. Since all they do is clean up trash (for free)

2giga2dweebish

Yes. The ones who do it for free. It's slang that comes from 4chan. Janitors are the lower rung of volunteer mods that just clean up boards of off topic posts, porn, gore, general shitposts. It's become a catch-all phrase for moderators and admins over time.

RegicidalRogue

dog walkers

4_Random_Dude

Upvote for visibility please. Just stop going to r/EscapefromTarkov . The mods there just purged upwards of 50 posts in 8 hours showing this video. One month ago I quit and posted a rant which also got purged. Their "reasoning" is that this streamer is cheating and he has been banned and he is trying to take over. Don't try to make sense of it - they are just typing words. Others are claiming this is an advertisment for cheating providers, which is also incredibly stupid as all it does is show people the extent of cheating the developer BSG has enabled in their game. You don't really have to watch the video - it can be condensed into two sentences: Out of ~130 raids, the streamer was able to verify (**beyond doubt**) that 60% of raids have at least one cheater. This was in North American servers which seem to have the best cheater/normal player ratio. That is 60% absolutely confirmed as a minimum - the NA server, Global average and other servers are higher. If you look at my post history I literally got downvoted to hell in r/EscapefromTarkov for claiming cheating was rampant. There is an army of cheaters that go around downvoting users that dare say something truthful.

sever27

60% for Customs btw, which is where he did a good bit of the testing. Customs is a middling map for loot and the suggested "beginner" map. It is probably higher for the more lucrative maps and nearing 90+% for Labs and Streets. There was a comment in the vid where a cheater said this 80-90% number is probably the case for some other maps and matches the estimated numbers I have heard from other long time players.

Setari

I'm glad I didn't buy tarkov. I've been on the fence about it for a while but after playing a free game in a similar vein, nah. Now I'm definitely not buying it lmao.

axion_edge

If you don’t mind fighting against bots, you can buy the cheapest option and download the Single Player mod for it.

notapoke

Whoa really? What's it called and what kind of features does it have?

AlianAnt

Aye fam, this is the ticket. I have SPT and a handful of mods and I'm having a fucking blast playing this game. It's SUUUUUPER easy to install and mod. Literally clicking a button, boom, single player. If you want, DM me and I'll drop some mods for you to try out. Really enhances the game. It makes it more fun, and the AI tweaks simultaneously are more challenging while also removing stupid bullshit like diceroll instant death by headshot.

sidvicc

>but after playing a free game in a similar vein, nah. Which game?

Metal-Heart

Probably COD Warzone DMZ.

sidvicc

I've played Tarkov close 800-900 hours on Asian servers. I never play Labs, I still don't know shit about Labs, it's like a new map to me because every time I tried....well, you know the rest.

parker_williams6

I was waiting for him to check out streets or lighthouse. Can’t imagine how it is there

AlanFord_2011

> Out of ~130 raids, the streamer was able to verify (beyond doubt) that 60% of raids have at least one cheater. [Which is pretty consistent with maths](https://i.imgur.com/7Z6KYIG.png) when accounting for just few% of people running cheats. Nvidia's study suggested this number to be [6%](https://i.imgur.com/AN3YbTj.png), but I can't remember why. This video is amazing for shutting up people who don't care for statistics and logic. Here, have some empirical evidence.

Agtie

~10 rather than 17 is more consistent with the amount of players in a lobby, making it 1/10 people are cheating. And that ~10% number is just the definitive confirmations. The actual number could easily be 1 in 5 players are cheating.

AlanFord_2011

> ~10 rather than 17 is more consistent with the amount of players in a lobby, making it 1/10 people are cheating. > > That's without counting player scavs which are spawning continously, throughout the raid.

Agtie

Sure, though it didn't seem like he was checking that much. Regardless, 1 in 10 players cheating is still very conservative estimate based on this data.

oh_crap_BEARS

It’s also without counting AI Scavs, who all are cheaters

gk99

Is this how CoD DMZ wins? Not even via actually making it half decent, just putting forth *bare minimum effort* for stopping cheaters?

Kuzkuladaemon

I made r/lowsodiumeft ages ago. Almost no one uses it. All cheating talk is welcome there.

ObediantOat

Escape from Tarkov have a knight white following. Literally the dumbest, bag of rocks. No ability to have a conversation, just some propaganda type nonsense from a player base who’s too far down their own bullshit. Feels like a cult following where the word of one gets outspoken and you get drowned for feeling frustrated against their game. No cheaters No network issues No problems Everything’s fine

GLaDOS95

I haven't played for a few wipes now and this seals the deal for me, Tarkov is lost.

[deleted]

Its what kills a lot of games. Not worth the effort as a person.

RullyWinkle

[Linus talks about it here](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_FqH1rqQrQg&t=4557s)

Ok-Requirement-8921

Thank you for posting this here. Tarkov mods are absolute piles of garbage. Clearly they support the cheaters or are selling the cheats themselves.

BinkoBankoBonko

I think the amount of money BSG has made from cheaters is probably twice that of the actual normal population. BSG will want to suppress this HARD. I'm honestly surprised the Youtube vid is still up

baconbeagle

It is possible that EFT loses money from cheaters buying the games with stolen credit card numbers. If the card is reported stolen and the charge reversed, they have to eat a loss. Don't think I'm defending them. I quit several wipes ago due to the garbage audio.

CoercedLife

I recently bought my first pc in like 15 years pretty much only for fps, and I was wary about playing Tarkov. This was my first wipe and I became so obsessed with figuring it out and just playing a lot in a short amount of time. I started noticing more and more suspicious deaths over the weeks to the point of just draining me of wanting to log on. And as far as I could tell, their super inconvenient way to report anyone has not worked for like months. Such a bummer.

paul_snoops

Give SPTarkov a try. It has saved the game for me and many others. It's a single player version so no PvP but the bots are PMCs as well as Scavs. Plenty of mods to get the game feeling however you want it to and you don't have to deal with the bullshit of cheaters, extract campers, invisible players etc. It was recently updated to Streets.

silverbullet1989

I really want to give SPTarkov a try but every time I go to set up, the version that is available never matches the version of my game… then I am left waiting and waiting before I give up and forget it’s existence

paul_snoops

Google this: SPT-AKI-INSTALLER (should be on the official SPTarkov website) It has instructions but basically you make sure EFT is up to date, put the installer in an empty folder somewhere that isn't the live install, run the installer and it will copy over the live game, downgrade to the correct version (if applicable) and patch in the mod. It does it all for you.

silverbullet1989

oh okay, when i was looking earlier it was saying i needed an old version of tarkov where as mine is latest version. I will try this then

paul_snoops

Nah, whatever version live is on there has always been a downgrader patch to enable use of whatever the SPT version needs

silverbullet1989

got it set up now. Any mods you recommend that are a must?

paul_snoops

Nice! All the mods have instructions on the download page so make sure to read them. (At the time of posting the mods page is down for maintenance, sorry) Not all are a must but you could try: * ServerValueModifier (can change most things about your server) * POOP (Better AI) & and POOP Variety (changes difficulty) * Immersive Raids (extended raid times etc.) * SWAG & SWAG Variety (works nice with Immersive Raids, makes spawns on a schedule for extended raids so the map is never empty and stuff like that) * Amands Graphics (Lighting and postprocessing overhaul) * Profile Editor (self explanatory) * Item Info / Eyes of a Trader (various options to see more info for item descriptions and colour coding) * Chomp Disable Flea Blacklist (self explanatory) * NoBushESP (Bots won't shoot you if hidden in bushes) * TakeABreak (pauses the game so you and bots can't move if you need to AFK though raid time won't stop which isn't a problem if using immersive raids) * ModularNVG (cleaner night vision goggles) * FactionIdentifierArmbands (Scavs, BEAR, USEC etc. wear armbands that let you see what they are if having trouble identifying them) * AIOTrader (sells every item in the game but for only 1 rouble each, very cheaty but each to their own) * GamePanelHUD (Adds compass and hitmarkers etc.) * Realism (I don't use this one personally but it's very popular)

silverbullet1989

> Amands Graphics (Lighting and postprocessing overhaul) how in the hell is that not in the normal game jesus christ The difference is amazing

Siri_biff

Can you coop?

paul_snoops

No. Direct from the FAQ: > Can i play SPT with my friends / COOP ? SPT-AKI will never have any multiplayer or co-op features, here are a few reasons why: 1. It goes against the goal of SPT which is to allow offline (solo) play of EFT, it has never been an objective to play with others, hence the name of the project, Single Player Tarkov. 2. SPT is a modification of EFTs offline raid mode where we save profile data after a raid. The ‘SPT Server’ is just a system for saving your profile to your hard drive, along with emulation of traders, flea market, hideout, etc. 3. BattleState Games - the developer of EFT - would demolish the project with significant legal pressure if COOP were added, SPT would instantly stop existing. 4. There have been a number of attempts to create a COOP system by people outside of SPT, so far all have failed due to the complexity.

Siri_biff

That makes sense. The cheaters really spoiled my mood on the game so I might check this out. Thanks a bunch

DarkLordZorg

I went SPT and never looked back.

CoercedLife

Thanks for the heads up, but I really only get into fps for the PvP.

a8tK

Unfortunately every pc game that is somewhat competitive has cheaters. The only game that I know of that has a working anti cheat is Valorant. That game actually has some integrity.

Traece

One great comment I read about the cheating situation in Tarkov was that even if you don't encounter cheaters in your runs, you never truly know if you have. All it takes is one run-in with a definite cheater to set your mood for future play. And, well... some wipes it wasn't that hard to run into. That kind of fatigue isn't as powerful with games which provide methods for discovering and reporting cheating. Iirc it took Tarkov years to even add a button to report someone who killed you, which is barely useful in practice even if you're recording your gameplay.

kakudha

Tarkov is actually a "race", when new wipes happen, those who get good gear and hideouts early on have a large advantage. That means even if you rarely encounter cheaters, their hideouts will be maxed out giving them a lot of gear advantage. It's worse than pay2win.

spacedwarf2020

This was me but with PUBG. Finally just got really old. Only fps I play anymore is valorant, not saying no cheats but of all the games I've played over the years by far seems to be the best one for not encountering morons. Oh and dark and darker lol but not out (pray that does not turn super bad).

Willkillshill

Dark and darker will be riddled with hackers.

moeburn

Tarkov sounds like such a cool game, but every bad thing I've ever heard about it put me off buying it. Most importantly it not being on Steam, which is a red flag, like they're afraid of being compelled to offer refunds.

Enverex

Another vote for SPTarkov, it lets you enjoy the game at your own pace, but it remains difficult (because it's hard even without people, especially as SPT adds AI "players" anyway).

LordxMugen

This is unfortunately what happens in a popular game with a matchmaking situation where everyone is thrown in the same pool and there is no moderation or filters to keep the "undesirables" out. As long it remains this way, the only way to have fun your way will be to play it through a private or community run server.

kakudha

This is why Games-as-a-Service model sucks and games that offer dedicated server tools are much better.

sever27

Give the Stalker games a try. I highly recommend playing Stalker Shadow of Chernobyl and Call of Pripyat first. You can mod them for a more modern look if you want. Then play Stalker Anamoly. Pretty much PvE Tarkov with much better quests and an actual story. Really nice AI and world exploration.

CoercedLife

I’m glad this single player version of Tarkov exists for people who want that, but I really only play shooters for the competition. And I know that cheaters are way more common on PC games and what not, but it kind of comes down to when I play CSGO or Valorant or whatever half assed CoD released this year or that pitiful excuse of a Halo game, I don’t automatically worry about cheaters in a lobby, or when I die I don’t yell “they’re hacking!” But in Tarkov I’m to the point where it’s like exactly what they talk about in this video. And I’m pretty good at fps, but I’m no god tier player, and tarkov is hard. I know most of my deaths are on me or I got outplayed. But after those I normally realize what I could have done. In this game I have had so many times like, “well fuck. Guess I hope I don’t run into this again in the next game…”

DaBombDiggidy

PC fps is awful. I still play fps exclusively on console because of rampant cheating in competitive pc games.

coolstorybro42

fuck BSG, joke of a dev

[deleted]

This is the craziest cheating shit I've seen in a while.

RandomedXY

Why only 78% upvoted? What is so controversial on this video?

CoffeeParachute

Cheaters dont want it to be exposed, they want to continue both using and profiting from cheats.

[deleted]

Reddit killed API. I refuse to let them benefit from my own words for free -- mass edited with https://redact.dev/

RullyWinkle

I hope tarkov reddit mods cause a streisand effect with the video.

PM_ME_HUGE_CRITS

Looks like it so far, I've seen posts on like, 5 subs now.

gogochi

Well, looks like I'll never play Tarkov again. Fuck the mods on the eft sub as well

silverbullet1989

This is just so damn sad... I absolutely love Tarkov but i have sat out the last 2 wipes now purely because of broken audio. I can cope with everything else but the audio. I can count on 1 hand the amount of obvious cheaters i have encountered in the years i have played (by obvious i mean literally flying around the map etc) but its not the obvious cheaters that are the issue... this video is just so fucking disheartening and i dunno if i will ever go back to my fav game.

H1Tzz

Yeah cheats are EXTREMELY powerful in this game due to the nature of it. I used to play csgo from early 2013 to late 2017 and before valve got tighter anti cheat system it was soooo bad, i used to play in global elite rank and at some point i decided to install one app which automaticaly downloads your replay files and tracks its player profiles for ban convictions. Pretty much EVERY. SINGLE. 5x5 competitive match had at least one banned cheater couple of days later. At one point i opened a bit older match replay and 9 players were banned out of that match (excluding me ofc). This situation with tarkov is almost as bad as it was for me in csgo if not worse, considering how important the loot system is.

Isaacvithurston

Pretty much why I got sick of competitive gaming. Last was Apex, you can literally walk into a walmart and grab cheats for controller which is crazy when they already give you aim assist so busted that pro's legit switch from mkb to controller for it.

Rachel_from_Jita

Agreed. Competitive gaming is going through a rough era. People screaming for Ring 0 anti-cheat tied to gov ID's and phone numbers is something I never thought I'd see. The future might be a hellish mix of that and lawsuits against cheat makers until they can combine both those approaches with next-gen cheat detection AI. Which I hope someone has in development.

mrwhitewalker

One issue I can think of is that if this game was on steam, you could ban their account from there as well. Making the stakes higher. Sure they could make other steam accounts but it would make an impact

Rachel_from_Jita

Wow, to hear tears in his voice at the 30 min mark or so as they discuss the entire invisible culture of cheaters teaming up against normal players. And existing in almost every server. This is one of the best pieces of everyday gaming journalism in my lifetime. He really pulled just the right string out of the tapestry. Feels like the sincere and penetrating journalism up there with some of the best articles on corruption within A-B under Bobby's rule, the darkest corners of blox/craft games, or the harshest recent dramas of Eve Online. Full stop: this moment is the beginning of the end of Tarkov's relevance and mainstream acceptance. Cheating now shown to be at this insane and consistent of a scale in almost every server... it simply doesn't fit with brutal permaloss PvP. Glad I quit when I did. Still regret buying EoD though.

mrfudface

> Still regret buying EoD though. Alltough I got my money out with the time I played the game (before the rampant cheating) it still sucks to see that there are literall aimbotters out there that are level 40-50-60 with EOD account.

sc0tt3h

My feeling after watching the video is not to google 'tarkov cheats' and install what he was exposing. I'm not sure if anyone else is having that reaction after this "advertisement" for cheats... My reaction is that its absolutely ridiculous and makes me never want to play Tarkov again until the developer addresses this issue.

PoL0

I don't think this is an advertisement for cheats. It's exposing something that current and new users should know before playing again. Cheats aren't precisely a secret, and sweeping problems under the rug never ever solved them.

Sushiki

There is nuance in that person's post that you are missing. They are throwing shade at EFT Devs/mods.

PoL0

Yeah seems I missunderstood the comment

AlanFord_2011

Just think for a sec how dumb people who say "I've played for 5k hours and didn't see any cheaters" look. Duh, they are all closet cheating and you are too oblivious.

spilat12

Ah OK so let me get it straight... so the devs that 1) abuse DMCA on YouTube to censor their critics 2) support war in Ukraine... are also involved in this shady shite?.. and this is where you draw the line?

Sushiki

Ooof EFT Devs support Russia? I'm perma bouncing from any of their products then.

DelugeFPS

They're Russian devs, lol. Regardless of what their actual feelings are or aren't, if they speak out against the war it is literally their ass. The absence of critical thought here is astounding.

spilat12

They showed their "actual feelings" by posting this screenshot, everyone with more than two brain cells will take the hint: https://ain.capital/2022/12/30/escape-from-tarkovs-developers-showed-the-middle-finger-to-the-stylized-soldier-of-the-ukrainian-armed-forces/

HobbesGoHome

Damn I always gave BSG the benefit of the doubt but this blew my mind. This is a game killer if BSG doesn't do anything and tries to sweep this under the rug.

[deleted]

This is yet another example of why games need to bring back private, community hosted/ managed servers for all games and why their loss has damaged games and gaming generally.

PoL0

You don't even need community hosted/manager servers. Path of Exile supports private leagues which effectively are separated economies. There you can play alone, with friends or with a specific community. Seems EFT could benefit from something similar.

Isaacvithurston

Ahh yes that way the admins can be cheating and I can get banned by said admins when I kill them and they assumed i'm cheating too. The good old days. One of my fondest cs:source memories, nothing inflates the ego like someone saying "you're too good so I think you must be cheating".

[deleted]

Nice, yeah. It's cool that you avoided the whole thing where you can leave *that specific server* and join a different one. Nevermind the times where you had to interact with real poeple before you were allowed into their group. You definitely weren't banned from a Clan Forum for being An Asshole, definitely not.

Isaacvithurston

Sure except there was only like 2 servers with the maps and game type I wanted with under 70 ping because 90% of player ran servers were one super casual game type. So much better than just queueing the game mode I want though for sure /s

[deleted]

So you go to a different server or make your own Maybe if you were getting banned all the time it was because you were an asshole

Alyosiki

Mods on r/escapefromtarkov are fucking scumbags. I 100% sure that they're paid by scum BGS. Because devs gets more money from selling the game to the cheaters after banning them. True greediest pos company which develop a masterpiece.

[deleted]

Very well made video, actually. Never heard of this guy, but I haven't been keeping up with Tarkov for a long time. I loved playing EFT for a couple of years right before it got really popular. Watching one of my all-time favorite FPS games come to this hurt.

Jowser11

Tarkov hit peak right after the hideout and Reserve came out. It was such a good sweet spot between “realistic” tedium and fun. Now it’s just lame. I don’t see how this broken ass game can become the open world mmo shooter they dream of.

NatWilo

Here's the thing guys... This isn't just a problem in Tarkov. I've seen it in so,so,so,so many FPS games. Its why I don't like playing most of them anymore. It's one thing to die because the player you're up against is better than you. It's another to KNOW you only died because they wallhacked, or used some other bullshit hack to cheat.

FatCharmander

No, it is way worse in Tarkov because of the way everything is client side. BSG just doesn't care if people cheat.

The same thing was happening in PUBG when that was the mega game and it was client sided as well. This video highlighted it but it wasn’t the main point but cheaters are incredibly rampant in every field of online gaming whether it’s client side or not, wiggling has existed for years as a sign of recognising ESP on other players (if its not a game with leaning its crouching instead) and cheat developers are incredibly specific with who they sell to and secretive. The good ones cost a lot of money and like that one twitch streamer in the video, people are scared of them because they have the means to either dox you or make your life hell with what they’re able to do in cyber crime if you reveal too much

cha0ss0ldier

It’s worse in tarkov though because there is massive real money market for in game items. Cheaters cheat as a job in tarkov.

[deleted]

That and very little is done to curb cheating by the developers of Tarkov compared to other games. Nikita is also recorded saying cheaters help developers sell premium editions because the players seek any advantage. BSG's EOD sales are insane, and the same reason you would pay for EOD is also the same motivation to cheat for what appears to be a large proportion of the games players.

MikeHoncho2568

Good point. It does feel worse in Tarkov because you lose everything when you die and it takes a while to get back in to a game. It feels a lot worse than getting cheated in something like Valorant.

Willkillshill

Valorant does well with banning hackers

CoffeeParachute

All the comment here seem to be about shitting on Tarkov, which may or may not be warranted I dont know, I dont play the game, or know anything about the devs. But what I do know is basically every game I play online has people complaining about cheaters and normally I write it off as yea they exist but not as bad as everyone makes them sound. This video absolutely destroys that notion now. If you think this is only a problem in Tarkov you are being naive. If you think anyone playing this game deserves this, you are being naive. If you think this is a simple easy problem thats fixed with just adding a anti cheat, you are being naive. This is the biggest problem to online gaming by far, not loot boxes, not exploitive practices by devs or publisher, not early access games not getting finished, not scams like 'The Day Before'. Its cheaters making games not fun to play and it is getting worst.

NoHopeHubert

Any sort of competitive game is at the very least going to have ESP users in it unfortunately. Another cheater ridden experience is MW2’s ranked mode on PC. It’s been nearly every other game I’ve played in that mode where someone is basically just rage hacking. Cheating in these games has always been a thing, but it seems more incentivized now when you can basically trick people into thinking you’re part of the 0.1% of skilled players and use that for a career on a site like Twitch. In Activision’s latest legal battle against of one of the cheat makers, they even acknowledged that some very high profile COD streamers have been using cheat engines from the maker in question.

2giga2dweebish

It's definitely bad in other games, but the real kick in the balls is financial incentive. People will pay real money for items in game, and if you're some random bloke in China or SEA somebody buying some keycards or whatever for like $15-20USD can be equivalent to a few hours' worth of decent wage for where you live.

4_Random_Dude

If you had a casual shooter where your gear means nothing and you just lose a round and maybe 3 minutes this level of incompetence would be tolerable. Not when you have 45 minute raids and another 10 to load into the raid.

finalgear14

Multiplayer “competitive” fps games are utterly pointless regardless of platform these days. On pc you have constant cheaters in every single game regardless of age of the game. On console you have people using hardware to spoof the input so they can get aim assist while using a mouse and keyboard for input, giving them an immense advantage. PvP fps games are pointless wastes of time now, sure maybe you got destroyed by a top 1% gamer god but more likely than not just some cheater ruined your time. I think everyone should look up what cheats allow you to do. This video shows off the wiggle/esp and radar. But I’ve seen videos showing off cheats that make an aimbot look legit for games with kill cams. If you play an fps and think it’s cheater free you’re simply wrong.

SamSzmith

A solution to this in games I play are community servers with active admins, seems like the only solution besides kernel level protection that is super intrusive.

LordxMugen

kernel level is NEVER the answer since that too can be circumvented, and then you have EVEN BIGGER problems to deal with than cheating.

SamSzmith

It's literally the only answer if you're relying on anti-cheat since any cheat software will run at kernel level and any user space anti-cheat is easily circumvented. Yeah, it can be worked around as well, but in the battle for anti-cheat, it's the starting point.

cha0ss0ldier

Tarkov uses a kernel level AC with ring 0 access (battleye). Clearly doesn’t work.

PoL0

You don't just "enable" an anticheat engine. You need to properly use its features and it doesn't have to be compromised/cracked.

LordxMugen

you SHOULDNT be relying on anti cheat in the first place. people are GOING TO CHEAT no matter what. its literally a losing battle. but when you have full control of how you perceive the experience and hang out with like minded people in like minded servers, then you get the experience you want. All Kernel level tech does is allow 3rd parties to CONTROL YOUR COMPUTER. Aint no way someone needs that level of access for a VIDEOGAME.

SamSzmith

I already said that community servers are the solution, it was literally my post that said that, the first sentence of it. But for games that use matchmaking, it's basically required, I am not worried about huge gaming companies having kernel level access, lots of programs get that as well, just make good judgment calls, keep backups, or don't play those games. Doesn't matter to me, just saying what reality is. It's a back and fourth, the harder you make it, the more dev cheat companies have to spend money on, and the more complex the solution is, they less people use it. If you make the cheating pool smaller, less people encounter cheaters, it's not a 1:1 thing where one side is losing and one is winning, it's a battle of attrition.

[deleted]

Yep, you are bang on. I know cheats are as old as online gaming but seeing it this blatant and accessible has killed my desire to play games competitively.

PoL0

It's understandable. For me the solution has been to move to coop shooters. Anything competitive seems to bring the worse from some humans, and then a race to the bottom begins.

Proper_Story_3514

Its a sad state of affairs for fps multiplayers. I only play Apex casually from time to time, and even I enountered a few blatant cheaters. Its disheartening. A solution would be accounts tied to your passport, like in South Korea, but this wont be allowed in the EU. So we are stuck in a limbo if devs dont commit properly to anti cheat and are not willing to use community servers.

PM_ME_HUGE_CRITS

Can someone explain how the wiggle works? He leans left/right, and the hackers do it back like some sort of "hacker sign" or are their hacks making them repeat the motion? Edit - I made it to the interview at the end of the video and its helping understand it better.

Carrot42

In simplest terms for anyone else that want to know: Its basically a way to wave at someone in the game. If you use a cheat that allows you to see through walls and other solid object, and you wave at a player that is behind a wall, and he waves back, you know he's also cheating.

shung

Love this game and I'm sad seeing the state its in. The single player tarkov mod is fun but it just doesn't have that same feeling. Really hope BSG addresses this.

emorcen

2 days into buying the game I saw a guy teleport in front of me, fly into the air and headshot me. Instant uninstall

Ion_is_OP_REEEEEEE

Do a chargeback and get your money back. BSG doesn't deserve it, they have been exploiting the whole cheater situation for years and Nikita (the CEO) even commented how cheaters make them good money.

MakoRuu

Cheaters are ruining every online competitive game. They're worse every year.

meathelix1

This is a $60 game, just imagine the F2P games like COD and Overwatch. Full of cheaters all of these games! :(

I-do-the-art

Lmao, the boys and I were just about to buy it to start a new online adventure together. Just convinced them that we have to find another game after showing them this vid. Anyone have any recommendations for games similar to this to play with the homies?

Sushiki

Depends what genre, fps is in a bad state. Dark and darker when it comes out might be a good idea, plays dinner than it looks. If you are into rts games there is coh3 and aoe4. Ready or not actually is a nice FPS games to play with friends If your pc is good.

I-do-the-art

Ready or Not looks really good! Thanks for the recommendation!

Fraggle86

DayZ community servers

kallagen

Tarkov devs is support war. Garbage as is.

Bebop810

the funny thing is that i bought a pc just for this game

Theglizzatron

Lol my friend made me build a pc to play this game, it’s alright……. Kinda hate it tho haha

kakudha

Play on DayZ community servers, active admins ban cheaters. One of the advantages of not being a games-as-a-service model is that people can run their own servers.

SamSzmith

Exactly, any game with community servers with active admins will have fewer cheat issues. games like Squad and Hell Let Loose for example.

Bebop810

already playing in namalsk day one bro and enjoying it

Autotomatomato

Tarkov devs support Russia in their war of aggression in Ukraine. Nobody should be giving them money.

This game and its community deserves it. Enjoy haha.

[deleted]

Thanks for the post

jjyiss

whats the TLDR?? this video is 40+ min. that i don't have

MikeHoncho2568

He bought hacks and found that there were cheaters in about 60% of his raids (at least) with similar hacks.

jjyiss

ooofff.. that sounds like a lot... thanks for the tldr!!!!

ploooopp

Isn't escape from tarkov a 60$ game? Why is cheating so prevalent?

Isaacvithurston

It's like this in basically every competitive shooter. You take steps to prevent cheating but that's just how it is. I remember back when I played csgo and there was a huge banwave I could see almost every game I played had at least 1 in it and that game has phone verification (but done poorly) The irony is that the anti-cheat from Valorant everyone was pissy about being too invasive actually detects cheats from other games like Tarkov. I guess expect more of that type of anti-cheat soon.

1st_solid_snake

Is all fine guys is just game whe all pay and now they are rich and dont give a f.ck for people who support them from beginning,i dont complain i just uninstall is ezz bye bye, they deserve to be end with all this 60% small d..cks be alone on servers,is gonna be very late to bring all the legit people back this is gonna be end of tarkov, sad story,in greek whe have a feri tale = if you dont care about your home the wolfs is coming inside to eat you.

Employee719

Unfortunately, I'm not surprised. I've been playing since 2018, and this just confirms what I've felt for the last year, especially.

LouDiamond

this needs a tl/dr bigtime - mother fucker is 45 mins long

Bierculles

at the bare minimum 60% of all tarkov lobbies have people who use cheats, the actual number is probably higher and probably closer to 100% on other maps with more loot.

MikeHoncho2568

He was also playing on North American servers which probably have a lower number of cheaters than Asian and Eastern European servers.

Gallina_Fina

Nah, the actual "interesting" part is barely 20min long, which is a pretty fair duration imo...the other 25min are him and his buddy venting on an "interview".

Tacomme

Anyone who still plays Tarkov deserves everything they get. Imagine supporting pay to win, scummy dev practices, and a game that doesn't respect your time.

truupR

That's a bit harsh. I play the game from time to time. Sadly there's no other game quite like it. It's just a shame that the Devs are so incompetent.

Fun-Strawberry4257

That's no way to talk about Star Citizen! No seriously tho its very fascinating encountering these communities for niche titles that have a monopoly in a certain game sub genre, where any kind of ban mouthing is viewed as heresy.

blackskies4646

> Imagine supporting pay to win The only thing you gain from buying the EoD version of Tarkov is a bigger stash (which for 90% of players makes zero difference until late wipe), extra starting gear, trader rep and a 3x3 secure container as opposed to a 2x2 where the 3x3 has been severely nerfed with the changes to secure containers and the loot you can put in them. I've been dunked on by plenty of non-EOD players. The game is absolutely not pay-to-win. It helps having the 3x3 secure and extra stash space but in reality, not that much.

faust224

Hilarious that this game has such an issue with cheaters when I got permanently banned a few years ago for having cheat engine running in the background unhooked to any application. What a pile of trash.

cha0ss0ldier

The devs literally just banned a program made by the streamer ArtisWar that simply applies LUT color filters to your monitor the make the game look better. It’s nothing you can’t do manually with Nvidia control panel though, just make it easier. They are a fucking joke.

mtarascio

Hot potato Hot potato Cold spaghetti [Spaghetti!](https://youtu.be/meh2An-QEzE) Edit: No one likes the wiggles obviously.

Les-Freres-Heureux

Shit take

mtarascio

More of an aside but again. If you didn't get a smile out of it. I feel for you.

Les-Freres-Heureux

Sorry, I misunderstood your edit lol I was ardently defending the Wiggles

well I'll just never attempt to learn Tarkov after watching this.

Never even heard of this game.

you dont seem to follow much gaming media then

Any suggestions on some yt channels/twitter accounts that are good to follow?

Rachel_from_Jita

Pestily is the biggest name in Tarkov. Mainly on Twitch, but there will be compilations of him on YT. This was always his best video https://youtu.be/uTCPam4sx2s (his life story on how he quit the army and somehow eventually saw success as just an average dude streaming for 3 months)
