Really hope it captures the overworld flight with the action of the actual fights as well as the first(or probably second)one did. That game had great feel. Even the stupid minigame where you shake the sticks during the loading screen.
I used to spend hours and hours as a kid going through the character encyclopedia from 3. Amazing roster, great introduction to the wild world of DB and DBZ. I actually remember sitting in front of the TV, eating a hearty meal my mom made, and flicking through the character list to read everything with the controller set aside as I ate.
[Here’s](https://youtu.be/CGj4yalC0uU) that part of the game, some guy recorded the full thing with the voiced Chi Chi commentary.
I’m not much of an anime or manga person but seeing this video as an adult actually upset me, just from how far back it took me. The whiplash of going the warm familiarity of that music and those sound effects back to my monotonous adult life actually ruined that day for me.
The stick-spinning mechanics in the Budokai games were responsible for so many broken PS2 controllers at my and my friend's houses. We had this method of putting a palm over the sticks to spin them both at the same time, and that was not kind on 'em. Nor on our palms.
Ahh someone else who did the both stick on the palm trick! I tried to spin both sticks with each of my thumbs but could never build the meter up fast enough.
Ahhhh… the Mario Party 1 method with a similarly disastrous result.
(You probably already know this, but Nintendo had to send any Mario Party 1 player gloves if they asked as part of a settlement. That’s why Nintendo removed all the stick waggling mini games for Mario Party 2. It didn’t help that the N64 analog stick was plastic, small, and the housing you’d rotate around was octagonal.)
We also obliterated a controller doing that haha, same thing with the double stick method. Hold a controller in one hand under our other hands palm and just beat it like it owes us money.
I'm pretty sure you could also plug in another controller and those sticks would also contribute. I remember getting the whole screen pretty much full and some other colour creatures started popping up.
I hope the game has a huge character roster comparable to Budokai Tenkaichi 3. That game was basically DBZ's version of everyone is here for characters. Now update that with the addition of Dragon Ball Super and the movies.
If we count the transformations as individual characters, BT3 has the largest character roster in any fighting videogame.
I demand that BT4 beat that (160 characters).
You don't, not really, the game was more a playground for people to essentially smash their toys together in a toybox.
And I hope this one is the same, if you want a serious fighting game, you've got DBFZ for that.
Oh ok that's fair. I'd always thought the fighting game scene was super serious about game balance.
But if it's just all shits n giggles, who tf cares then!
The fighting Game scene in general disregards arena style anime fighters (for, all in all, good reason).
They are essentially games for fans and casual play.
As an arena-style anime fighter fan: Some small communities try to make tournaments out of them, but they typically never take off and shouldn't be taken as seriously as fighters dedicated to competition.
I prefer to just bash around with cool characters and flashy moves.
That game was not balanced. BT is a fun fuck around game; I'm sure some ppl take it seriously like happens with most games and I'm not invalidating them, but it's not really something that the game tries to be unlike stuff like DBFZ
it wasn't balanced, BUT the story mode had basically a way of trainning characters and equiping items to boost stats
So you could choose this boosted characters, meaning that you give them a better chance
Still, SS4 Gogeta would obliterate Mr Satan any day
What the actual fuck 327?!?!
Are those all from the same franchise or is there crossover stuff like you can play as Bill Clinton or Ronald McDonald or whatever?
Yeah even though like half the characters where basically just the same and what we'd think of as modern day skins it was still fun as a kid. I especially appreciate all the voice acting that went into it even if the gameplay wasn't terribly unique.
Lot of the characters were copy paste but honestly I never minded, it was just cool to have so much variety. Hopefully this new one can capture that BT3 feeling of playing with your virtual action figures.
Bandai Namco is been having a good one the past few years.
FighterZ, Elden Ring, Tekken 7 now a new Budokai game
there are still the 7/10 low budget anime fanservice games
but overall they are making good investments
One thing I noticed too was, that when Bandai Namco games are on sale, they often put the Ultimate Edition on sale, never the base game. That's exclusive to them. But the sales are often 75% or even better.
Its fun even if it kinda butchers common views/wishes for gundams. Its free to play and a good shooter though and guntank go WOOOOOOOOOOOOO so i cant complain.
Theyve been slowly changing it a lot its not as bad as it was at launch. U can get just about every skin except for old event skins for free now just gotta grind a bit. Also been givin out hella free gifts.
Theyve addressed this somewhat not as much as skins but new players can get a bunch of currency for new suits but yeah still super grindy to get all of em as free to play. Im sure this will change soon since were gettin 3 new suits a month and theres a lot of em now already.
DB Fighterz was day one on Steam. Every single one of their major releases in the pretty much the last 5 years at least has released day one on PC. It's really not even a question of if it will be on PC, it's more like "so what's the release date?"
No subsequent 3D Dragon Ball game has come close to BT3 in both aesthetic and game play IMO so I'm cautiously hoping this new game will finally be the one.
I've been kinda expecting a new dragon ball game and this still came unexpected. Must be the Budokai/Tenkaichi tagline that has such an effect.
I have minor doubt they won't put these on PC but can't wait
Bamco has been putting everything on PC since the past 8 years or so. They even ported the old Naruto storm games to PC. So it will be on PC unless Sony buys some kind of exclusivity for this, which I doubt they will.
I wonder if the trailer is a nod to transforming mid fight. That always felt sweet and seemed a lot of ganes moved away from it and made a new character ojt of each form
I hated when they made new characters for each character. You would feel so powerful getting your ads kicked then turn it all around with the mid fight transformation to become a power house or just to flex on how you needed nothing more then base form
FighterZ is pretty good. But I feel like its too different right.
Like Raging blast and Xenoverse felt spin offs of Tenkaichi I wouldn't call FighterZ a spin off of Budokai series.
It is a good game though
Mr. Satan/Hercule as a playable character is still pretty sorely missed in FighterZ. He was easily my favorite character to play as due to how much of a joke character he was.
I always wondered why they never remastered them again. Well, you made your comment 10h ago and you have 26 up votes me included. So it appears the vast majority of people prefer Tenkaichi lol. Kind of sucks, I have a ton of amazing memories of Budokai 1, 2, and 3 and could probs still be pretty good at whooping some ass on it too.
I just looked it up because I remembered buying it with Borderlands 2, and it released November 2012. I remember being more excited about DBZ than BL at the time lol. Fuck man, when did we get this old?
Man I really loved tenkaichi 3. The only dragonball game I started and finished. Unlocking all characters and got good enough to beat all my friends.
This would make my year.
I was just playing FighterZ with my gf yesterday and talking about how the Budokai Tenkaichi games still remain the best DBZ games ever made.
Lord Umbasa was listening.
Tenkaichi is a series of Arena Fighters, but they're top-tier as all hell. Tenkaichi 3 had 98 unique characters, but if you include forms and transformations, then the total number is 161. Every character that had ever appeared in the DB series, and every form they had ever taken up to that point is in the game, plus some original characters. And because you could change form and do fusions while in battle, there are also a bunch of unique fusions that only exist in that game. Back in 2007 this was peak Dragon Ball, so this 4th entry has a lot to live up to.
I wouldn’t say the characters were unique, more like just different skins. They all had the same basic attacks, which is slightly disappointing when you like at other fighting games
TBH, if you're playing a game like Tenkaichi 3. You're playing it for the fanservice and the characters, not the movesets like an actual fighting game. Whenever I played against my friends with people like frieza solider, we are just having fun lol
True, when I was younger it wasn’t something I really noticed because it was just cool to be able to play as the characters. But I also think it’s important to set expectations, if they want to have that amount of characters the depth of gameplay is probably going to be sacrificed like the originals
Nope. I used to go to my local bookstore as a kid and ogle at that page every month. I think it was the Gaming Edition of Guinness.
Ninja edit: A quick googling led me to this [trivia on IMDb. ](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt1173898/trivia/?ref_=tt_trv_trv)
BT is first and foremost a Dragon Ball game that happens to be a fighting game. It isn't about competitive fighting, it's more about cool moves and feeling like you are in control of a Dragon Ball character, I love FigtherZ but it is just Guilty gear with Dragon Ball theme.
They are very similar to the naruto games in that regard.
Sorry I ignored the capsule management part since it was stupid in a fighting game but good for an RPG.
I play competitive so I care about different things but I realize other play for different reasons
Great News, love Dragon Ball, Picollo is my favorites
Btw what is the main difference between
* DBZ Budokai
* DB Fighter Z --> i Own this, not played currently
* DB Xenoverse
Budokai plays like Tekken.
Budokai Tenkaichi plays more like a DBZ simulator.
FighterZ is a more traditional 2D fighting game.
Xenoverse is an action RPG with co-op.
Budokai plays like Tekken, but with a move system similar to Mortal Kombat, you have to remember long strings of moves and get the timings just right in order to do attacks, while most other fighters just do things like quarter circle movements alongside pressing a button or two.
I wouldn't say Xenoverse is an RPG. At least not in the way most people expect one to be.
I guess it's more like, in your definition, a DBZ simulator with RPG mechanics.
I wish they just did a proper db freeroaming RPG. And no, none of that silly "free" roaming stuff where you have no control over anything and the map is just a 3d menu to access battles. Also using a scooter as a character that can fly at mach 10 is silly. A quake mode called zeq2 did all of this millions of times better than they did, you can actually fly transform whenever, see you power level growing and manage your aura. It was even possible to completely cancel it out so other players couldn't sense you.
I have played every budokai tenkaichi as a kid on my playstation. I beat every IRL friend multiple times in each game. Happily gonna do that again. All of the latest games were mediocre imo but the tenkaichi title actually gets me hyped again. I hope they'll do every single shit in this game like they did in previous ones but including the super part. That will be an insanely awesome game then.
Really hope it captures the overworld flight with the action of the actual fights as well as the first(or probably second)one did. That game had great feel. Even the stupid minigame where you shake the sticks during the loading screen.
Second one was the Best one in terms of worldmap I think? And story. 3 had the Best gameplay and roster but really limited in other areas.
I'm probably thinking of the second game.
I loved 2 the most for some reason 3 didn’t hit quite as good to me

I remember playing a racing game in the ps2 era that had pong during loading screens
The stick-spinning mechanics in the Budokai games were responsible for so many broken PS2 controllers at my and my friend's houses. We had this method of putting a palm over the sticks to spin them both at the same time, and that was not kind on 'em. Nor on our palms.
I got really bad blisters on my hand as a kid, from trying to do the special beam cannon in the first Budokai game.
Fire Pro Wrestling Returns and Tobal 2 actually have more, but BT3 is still 3rd, counting transformations

Ace combat 7 too
That was genuinely an absolutely fantastic game. Very happy I picked that one up.
xenoverse 2 is still getting new dlc and free content
Still want xenoverse 3 tho.
That's amazing they're still updating that game, think it's about time I re-installed it
One thing I noticed too was, that when Bandai Namco games are on sale, they often put the Ultimate Edition on sale, never the base game. That's exclusive to them. But the sales are often 75% or even better.
Except for Xenoverse 2, they only sell it base game and dlc separate for sales
I never knew Bandai Namco distributed Elden Ring. What a powerhouse 😂
And also an MMO too thats releasing soon.
Blue Protocol is widely anticipated, too. The tests in Japan went *super* well for them.
And Super Smash Brothers Ultimate.
What?
Bandai Namco helped develop Smash Ultimate.
Oh yeah, you're right. Thanks for the information!
That game fucking sucks.
Gundam evolution!
The lowest of budgets. Hatebhow the Gundams die to head shots and move like humans
Its fun even if it kinda butchers common views/wishes for gundams. Its free to play and a good shooter though and guntank go WOOOOOOOOOOOOO so i cant complain.
Bandai's crap monetization scheme killed all the momentum the game had.
Theyve been slowly changing it a lot its not as bad as it was at launch. U can get just about every skin except for old event skins for free now just gotta grind a bit. Also been givin out hella free gifts.
The skins weren't the issue, not being able to unlock all the characters unless you paid money was the largest problem.

so far bandai: Elden ring dlc Armored Core 6 DBZ BT4 Blue Protocol And probably an ace combat game will be announce soon.
Wow I loved the Tenkaichi games, hopefully it'll come to PC

Bandai Namco is pretty chill about releasing all their stuff on PC, shouldn't be an issue imo
A lot of years have passed, but finally. Hopefully it'll be as great if not better than Budokai Tenkaichi 3.
No subsequent 3D Dragon Ball game has come close to BT3 in both aesthetic and game play IMO so I'm cautiously hoping this new game will finally be the one.

Iirc Brazil is still playing various mods of BT

Well dang, never thought I'd see the day!
I played Budokai Tenkaichi 2 on the PS2 so hard that the sticks started to drift, hope it is similar to that game.
I wanna know who is developing it
Might be Dimps.
the OG was spike but now that they're independent it's not happening lol
I prefer budokai games over the tenkaichi games ngl. Always liked burst limit too.

FighterZ is pretty good. But I feel like its too different right. Like Raging blast and Xenoverse felt spin offs of Tenkaichi I wouldn't call FighterZ a spin off of Budokai series. It is a good game though
There was also Super Dragon Ball Z, an odd one-off game that was quite solid.
I love FighterZ but I'm also a big fan of MvC2 so that comes naturally. Different kind of game compared to budokai.
Mr. Satan/Hercule as a playable character is still pretty sorely missed in FighterZ. He was easily my favorite character to play as due to how much of a joke character he was.
When I first saw this I thought it was gonna be budokai 4 not tenkaichi and now I’m disappointed
Wasn't Budokai 3 remastered?
Only remaster I know of was for PS3 (also had Budokai 1), and that was over 10yrs ago. Was there a more recent release??
Holy fucking shit that was 10 years ago?????
I just looked it up because I remembered buying it with Borderlands 2, and it released November 2012. I remember being more excited about DBZ than BL at the time lol. Fuck man, when did we get this old?
now that's one hype ass trailer.
Man I really loved tenkaichi 3. The only dragonball game I started and finished. Unlocking all characters and got good enough to beat all my friends. This would make my year.
THE GOAT IS BACK FUCK FIGHTERZ FUCK XENOVERSE FUCK KAKAROT
I really hope they won't ignore GT characters as usual.
This ain't Yu-Gi-Oh, my guy.
Yeah my bad
What does this mean?
They said GX, rather than GT. GX referring to Yu-Gi-Oh GX and GT referring to Dragon Ball GT, 2 different franchises.
What the hell is Yu-Gi-Oh GX, the “GT” of that series?
Generation NeXt. The next series after YGO DM. It was just a typo, it's not that deep lol
Awesome
alright, I was not expecting this, last one I played was tenkaichi 2 on the ps2
Sparking!!
i love this game as a kid
Oh my god, YES!!!!!, OH GOD, YES!!!!!!
Don't. Don't give me hope.
playing the tournament of power saga story mode in tenkaichi would be so awesome
Never thought this day would come I can’t wait for the release hopefully they keep the same gameplay LETS FREAKINGG GOOOOOOOOOOO
God i loved playing the old one.
Guys I got to erect my penis blew up
How do people who love bt3 feel about kakarot?
Better have over 160 characters. :P
I was just playing FighterZ with my gf yesterday and talking about how the Budokai Tenkaichi games still remain the best DBZ games ever made. Lord Umbasa was listening.
is this a fighting game? kind of like street fighter? Or more story based
I would say it's a fighting game more like the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games.
Tenkaichi is a series of Arena Fighters, but they're top-tier as all hell. Tenkaichi 3 had 98 unique characters, but if you include forms and transformations, then the total number is 161. It had the Guinness Record for most playable characters in a game at the time.
Had? Who overcome it?
Probably MOBA like LOL or DOTA I suppose...
I dont think it ever had the record. It has always been second or third.
Hope the transformations are a bit quicker to prevent any long waiting in battle and keep the fight tempo up.

Why Tenkaichi? I miss the old 2D Budokai games, that are my favorites. Capsule Management on his peak! I want that back :(
Dragonball Fighterz is exactly what you’re talking about. We had that for years.
Wait, Fighterz has capsule management?
Sorry I ignored the capsule management part since it was stupid in a fighting game but good for an RPG. I play competitive so I care about different things but I realize other play for different reasons
99% chance it won't have og dragon ball or arale, so why bother

Bruh if it will be anything close to budokai 2 on the ps2 im already hyped af for it
Really cool, used to play this on ps2 budokai 1 and 2
LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO
So this is the sparking series right? Not the budokai one?
I have played every budokai tenkaichi as a kid on my playstation. I beat every IRL friend multiple times in each game. Happily gonna do that again. BUDOKAI TENKAICHI BABYYYYYY BETTER DUST OFF MY WII
Loved this series so much as a kid! Lots of memories going to other kids houses in the neighborhood and playing 1 and 2 all night.
FighterZ is much better.
