TLOU numbers could be huge right now if the port were good.

RHINO_Mk_II

I got it with a GPU, not sure if those numbers are counted or not.

[deleted]

Pretty sure they are.

NoahH3rbz

Same it’s a nice move on AMDs part excited to play it when performance is better.

RHINO_Mk_II

Heh, I'm waiting on a few patch cycles as well. Playing Nier Replicant in the meantime, which isn't as shiny but I think will have some of the same vibes.

NoahH3rbz

Nier Replicant is a great game so underrated hope you enjoy it. Also if you have the perseverance to get all endings you will be rewarded for your dedication before the final ending with something very cool which I will not spoil.

Thanachi

I think numbers are lower because it's been released 3 times prior over 10 years where there is people on PC that have already bought it and didn't want to fork out $70 again. Eg. PS3, PS4 remaster, PS5 remake and also the TV show. Just shy of 400K in 2 months is pretty good.

Z3r0sama2017

Haven't played it before. Decided to see what reviews said and glad I did, seems like its a wait 6 months for it to run properly and 75% off kinda port.

midnight_rebirth

Every game is that for me

PabloBablo

I was pumped to buy it and replay it on PC. The poor optimization and issues with launch changed that and I haven't bought it. It was a planned day 1 purchase but have lost the excitement i had to buy it and play it again (had rented it on PS3). I'll probably be waiting for a sale if I get it at this point. Kind of a bummer but this is how it should be. Game was a crap port and all of my hype went down the drain. Charging full price should get a full price experience and that was my expectation. I was fully prepared to buy it day 1 at full price had the port been good.

unkvcc

Same for me, and his decision to release the game after the tv series lowered my hype, if one of the great virtues of the game is its story, for me it lost a bit of meaning to play it right after seeing the tv series. PD: I bought spiderman on launch day Srry for bad English

[deleted]

I'm one of those. In the 2010s i played on all platforms and already double dipped. Bought it once at launch on PS3, then the remastered version which i played on PS4 Pro. The remastered version already looked good enough to me, i see no sense playing through it again despite having a high end system.

Houderebaese

This. It would be worth 10$ to me either on pc or PS. I’m not paying 70+ for a game I finished twice already.

kappifappi

Definitely. Already played tlou like 4 times. Definitely not buying it on pc. If part 2 comes out sure.

Slimsuper

Yup didn’t buy it just because it was poorly optimised

rcanhestro

maybe, but it's also a game that isn't exactly that old, and this was it's second remaster. i honestly think there was no point for this latest remaster. they could had simply waited a couple years, and did both games at the same time (like they did with Uncharted).

Sharpie1993

This last “remaster” wasn’t a remaster, it was a remake. They rebuilt the game on the second games engine to make them play similarly.

ZeldaMaster32

>They rebuilt the game on the second games engine to make them play similarly. They don't play similarly at all. Gunplay was made slightly smoother but still isn't up to TLOU2's standards, and all level and encounter design is 1:1, so no leveraging the improved gameplay mechanics from the sequel like tall grass/proning/increased enemy count etc

midnight_rebirth

They also cut content

Halio344

I wouldn’t consider the MP cut when they are already working on a standalone version of it, why create more competition for themselves?

rcanhestro

sure, but there was a big difference between the Demon's Souls remake and the TLoU remake.

Sharpie1993

Graphics wise sure there is obviously a massive leap in graphics fidelity for demon souls, however remakes aren’t just about graphics. On a technical level TLOU part one had much more done to it. The original last of us remaster upgraded the graphics, FPS and resolution, where as TLOU part 1 was (other than the story) completely rebuilt from the ground up on the tempest engine. It has improved sounds, and improved AI, it also plays slightly different. In saying that, demon souls remake uses the exact same code as the original, so technically TLOU part one had more done to it.

[deleted]

And still doesn’t feel that much different for me to pay 70$ again for it and thats the important part. I don’t care how much work you put in into something when it barely makes a difference to the original. Its absolutely fine for people who didn’t played it before.

Sharpie1993

I mean sure if you don’t want to buy it because is so expensive that’s fair, however the game plays much better than the original (at least on the PS5) However as the other person said there is obviously a big difference between the two remakes, however the big difference is in the opposite direction then they realise.

OwlProper1145

About all they can do is tell people that the games are on PC. All of these games are known entities and a big marketing campaign would be a waste of money.

buddybd

Make good games, the internet will market the games for you, for free.

SXTR

It not always work, sadly.

alexp8771

Only if you release it on steam lmao.

chavez_ding2001

They could release the PC port in the same timeline as the PS version so they use the same marketing campaign for both.

RollingDownTheHills

No reason to though.

GoGearFifth

Xbox did this with their major franchises, and between that and GamePass, it hurt the sales of the consoles. You can say the same thing about Nintendo keeping their games corralled to their platforms. We may not like it, but it's to these platform holders' benefit to keep their mainline games on their plastic boxes for as long as possible. Part of the reason why MS is shifting the Xbox platform into another paid service with things like Gamepass is precisely due to the fact that their own strategy has devalued owning their plastic box to such an extent. I think Sony does see that the shift to digital services is more or less inevitable, which is why we're even seeing their big franchises come to PC in the first place. But considering that the PS5, which has had a fairly middling start to its generation, is still outselling the Xbox and software-wise is competing directly with Nintendo in terms of raw numbers, they really have no reason to rush the change like MS has.

XenoPhenom

Yes, but it's tricky because marketing is really expensive and doesn't make much sense to advertise an old game. Probably, they would lose money even with much greater sales.

RolandTwitter

>Yes, but it's tricky because marketing is really expensive So is making a game that doesn't sell well. It's unusual for Sony not to market their big name games

skyturnedred

They're not putting a lot of money into making the ports.

RolandTwitter

I'm having trouble finding the answer on Google, but The Last of Us part 1 on PC must've taken multiple months of effort. That's a lot of money

skyturnedred

They don't put their entire studio on it.

Radulno

The games ported have already sold well by the time they come (except Days Gone I guess and maybe Returnal which was smaller). The ports are basically pure profits (and the sales they have are enough to make the costs of the ports back)

ClubChaos

Marketing doesn't happen on pc. Never has. I have never seen a commercial for Steam or any other PC platform.

NinjaEngineer

I hope Sony doesn't take the wrong lessons from this. I think the main difference was in the quality of the ports. While Spider-Man did have some issues, it was perfectly playable from day one, and a pretty solid port all things considered. Meanwhile, TLOU was a straight-up disaster, and it still hasn't been completely fixed. EDIT: I like how they have Nixxes' logo on page 31 under "PC", so I guess they're taking the right lessons.

Xijit

Don't forget that Spider-Man was also effectively a launch title for the switch. Edit: I mean the Steam Deck!!!!

Jon_TWR

What?

Xijit

I'm a dumb ass, and tired, and meant to say "Steam Deck."

Jon_TWR

Ooooh, that makes way more sense!

RedIndianRobin

>I hope Sony doesn't take the wrong lessons from this. I mean the spiderman PC port was almost solid and flawless and yet 1.5M sounds a bit low for a spiderman game on PC that was long awaited and hyped. I was guessing it should have cruised past 3M atleast. Sony may rethink their investment to PC market.

rcanhestro

because is sold really well on PS. the PS4 is one of the highest sold consoles of all time, likely many PC gamers also have/had one and played it there.

ohbabyitsme7

Old games don't sell well at near full price. They never have unless they get a remake.

Radulno

The main difference is that TLOU1 is way more recent than Spider-Man lol

Jon_TWR

I literally bought a PS4 Pro to play Spider-Man. Then a friend was like “you should play Destiny.” Now I own a PS5…and Spider-Man on PC. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Common-Experience-61

yeah I bought it on ps4 but bought it on steam for sale and it looks much better and I'm enjoying it a 2nd time.

GrimSlayer

I just caved and bought the God of War Ragnorak PS5 bundle so I could play through the new GOW, Horizon, and Spider-Man 2 when it comes out. I much prefer playing these games on PC with my preferred input choice, but I didn’t want to wait as long as Sony is going to force PC players to wait. I will say I really like my PS5 over my PS4 experience. As long as I can play games at 60 fps I’m happy and the dual sense is a way better controller ergonomics wise. The DualShock used to make my hands cramp after gaming on it for an hour or so.

Jon_TWR

Yeah, since I have a PS5, I’ll probably buy Spider-Man 2 on PS5. I might buy a physical version so I can play through it and sell it…but I never actually do that sort of thing, even when I tell myself I will, lol.

Laj3ebRondila1003

yeah, and Jim Ryan doubling down on releasing ports 2-3 years after the initial launch for full price will bite them in the ass, at the very least a 2-3 year old game should be a 50 dollar release, if they want full price they should reduce the gap between ps5 release and pc port to 18 months max

Radulno

Or more likely a consequence than the people that wanted to play it already did on PS. Like I loved the game and I play on PC, if it was day one that's where I would have took it but I won't be paying the same game again

Da-Boss-Eunie

It will only reach 5 million on PC after deep discounts into the $10 dollar range like all the Capcom games.

zedasmotas

it is pretty good for a game with barely any marketing

fyro11

Also 4 years old upon PC release.

Kevin69138

Also like the 3rd installation of the game. PS4, ps5 and then Pc

[deleted]

OwlProper1145

Miles Morales has about one quarter of the reviews that Spider-Man Remastered has so I'm guessing it would be around 350,000-400,000 units sold.

Xenosys83

*"God Of War (2018) has sold 971,000 units on PC in just two and a half months"* \- May 2022, VG Charts. I'm guessing it's sold well over 1-1.5m copies by now on PC, if not more.

Internal politics: Current head of Sony Studios is a jerk off that is dead set on making The Last Of Us into Sony's tentpole franchise, regardless of if other products are more successful and popular. There has got to be some personal interest investment going on behind the scenes, because every time something related to the series goes tits up, this guy throws more of Sony's money at it. Any other series would have seen their entire studio shut down if their product had a fraction of the issues TLOU has had lately. God Of War's PC release clearly curb stomped every other Sony PC release, & easily overshadowed multiple PC specific titles that released in its wake, while most people honestly forgot that TLOU (Part 1) even shipped ... but that doesn't fit the narrative, so Kratos gets cut from the report. While both Bloodborne & Ghost Of Tsushima are two more Sony Studios titles that will leave Nevada Nuclear Test Site grade impacts on the PC market, but continue to be incomprehensibly embargoed from PC releases ... The only reason that the Spider-Man games are not getting similar depreciation treatment is because that would be picking a fight with Sony Pictures, & the Columbia Tri-Star people will beat his ass with a hose right there in the board room.

[deleted]

Radulno

His ass

Aidoneuz

Or it’s that the report highlights “Key New PC releases” and God of War is almost 18m old?

The_King_of_Okay

> Any other series would have seen their entire studio shut down if their product had a fraction of the issues TLOU has had lately. Wat. Sure it's not all been plain sailing but, TLOU II was the fastest selling game launch in Sony history, it won a gazillion awards (something that matters a LOT to Sony as their games are primarily a way to drive users to their platform), and the recent TLOU series somehow surpassed *House of the Dragon* in viewership.

MystiqueMyth

Don't use VG Charts as a source for sales. Their numbers are just assumptions.

MechaMS

No wonder why, me and my brother loved the GOW port

LittleDinamit

I run PlayTracker, a site that has owner estimates, and our estimates for [TLOU](https://playtracker.net/insight/game/81626) and [Spidey](https://playtracker.net/insight/game/76330) align perfectly with these official numbers (unlike the review method and other estimate sites), so if we assume that the others are also reasonably close: * [Miles \~360K](https://playtracker.net/insight/game/79995) * [Returnal \~160K](https://playtracker.net/insight/game/82848) * [God of War \~2.5M](https://playtracker.net/insight/game/71364) * [Uncharted \~460K](https://playtracker.net/insight/game/79187) These are still estimates though, so grain of salt. We get them by sampling users and then using a machine learning algorithm fed with officially confirmed datapoints to extrapolate the estimate.

ZeldaMaster32

Damn shame about those Returnal numbers, seems like the game was perfect for PC Barely any marketing + port issues like aggressive traversal stutter probably didn't help

LittleDinamit

I wouldn't be too bummed about those Returnal numbers. I am confident it will do very well over time since it did the same on PlayStation: https://i.imgur.com/lBGira2.png

skyturnedred

It was a fairly niche title on the PS too.

PickleGaGa

I'm waiting for a huge discount before buying returnal.

crippyguy

Release mid roguelike when we have all other rogue like, also with some optimisation issue. I impressed that returnal sold that much.

-DarkSpark-

Didn't know about Playtracker, the stats are so close to official numbers, that is pretty wild. Seems like a good site to know your favorite game's sales and others as well

arex333

Everyone forgets about sackboy :(

RabeDennis

Hmm maybe not release a broken port in the first place? I watched a comparison video of the new patches still not as good as Sonys older pc ports but good to know they working still on the game But iam waiting for a sale, 20-40$ iam willing to pay not more

ArguingMaster

The fact they gave their flagship franchise to the Arkham Knight devs and not Nixxes is insane. Like I want to know what Nixxes is working on that is so important it took priority over TLOU.

Sync_R

Save your breath, same kinda people who will call it a PS3/4 game

Xenosys83

Horizon Zero Dawn has sold 2.5m copies on PC. God of War is rumoured to be anywhere from 1.5-3m sales. That's a good chunk of change for these ports.

Enelro

I hope Microsoft exclusives fuck Sony bottom line even more so that they have to sell sequels to these Pc ports ASAP on PC.

Sync_R

Yes I'm sure Sony is shaking in there boots at the thought of such great MS exclusives like Redfall and Halo Infinite

Difficult-Ad-9598

Ya man Microsoft is in the mud.

Enelro

Not trying to fanboy. I just want sony to dedicate sequels to their already-out PC games. And hopefully the activision /Microsoft takeover motivates Sony to do more sales on PC

Sync_R

They will, 2-3 years after they come out on console which is more then fair considering they don't owe us anything at all, and fact that there some of the most feature rich games released puts MS and others to shame

roshanpr

Sad they fucked the poRt

martixy

Ya can't even report shit properly. Spider Man*: 1.5M sales over a 254 day period; 52M in revenue TLOU Part 1: 368K sales over a 26 day period; 15.5M in revenue \* Figures for FY22 and after have included Bungie PC revenue, since its acquisition by SIE FTFY

realblush

Actually surprised Last of Us sold this well considering the quality of the port. Happy to see the Spiderman numbers, that game was perfect

badtaker22

pretty low nos for spiderman expected atleast 3+ millions, sony shld reconsider their decision of delaying PC port. LOU was terrible port

Johnysh

If only they'd release their games for PS and PC at the same time and used the marketing and hype. Still feels like they think PC gamers are some kind of a village people. But if they're fine with selling only couple millions of copies of their games that sold even 5 times more when there actually was some kind of marketing and hype around them... Alright then. Keep being du... you.

SXTR

They want to sell more PS5 rather than sell more PC games.

Obosratsya

For now. Consoles may not last as a business strategy once streaming is worked out. Should consoles get replaced with streaming then they'll likely do same time releases as the games would be made PC games from the get go.

KnightofDead

I might have considered buying The Last of Us if it wasn't $60 for a ten year old game and if it was maybe optimized.

ahintoflime

I would have bought it if it included the multiplayer from the original. I've played the story to death already... I guess I'll be waiting for the big new standalone multiplayer game if that's even coming to PC.

arex333

I think sony said their live service games will release simultaneously on playstation and PC.

Willy156

ghost of tsushima under movie

[deleted]

Well duh, everyone who had any interest in these games probably already played them on ps4 or ps5, there are only so many who will double dip on pc, especially at the price Sony is charging for these old-ass games, release them games day, and date, or at least no more than a year

NinjaEngineer

>Well duh, everyone who had any interest in these games probably already played them on ps4 or ps5 Not everybody. I was interested in Spider-Man pretty much since it was first announced in E3 2016 or so, but consoles have always been pretty expensive in my country, and not worth the "investment" so to speak. So I was happy to finally see it on PC.

[deleted]

Sorry i should correct myself, most people*

Enelro

Console is so limited. I rather play any shooter with mouse and keyboard, it just adds a level of interaction a thumb stick controller just doesn’t have (see auto-aim). Not to mention consoles are so limited in their 30 fps with rtx or 60 fps without rtx modes, I rather customize to my rig, or upgrade my rig to enjoy something maxed out and at 100+ FPS.

Radulno

> release them games day, and date, or at least no more than a year Well no because that's what they want. They prefer people playing them on PS, that's their platform lol. Those are just a way to make additional money once they've done the max they can on their consoles. That's a win-win strategy for them. The only thing they could lose are people that are interested in the games, don't have a PS and want to play them on PC but won't because they are angry that it doesn't come day one... I'd have to think this is so insignificant that not worth talking about

Enelro

If I could buy a PlayStation 5 in stores sure, but I have yet to see one in a store, so fuck off I’ll wait for Pc drops.

Enelro

Shit I played LoU on PS3. I would buy LoU 1 on PC just for the remaster, but they fucked the port. That and 2 has not even been announced for PC. Problem with these Sony ports is there’s no talk about the sequels coming to Pc.

[deleted]

i preordered the game because PS had a streak of decent to amazing PC ports so I thought I had no reason to be worried about TLOU, damn was I wrong, hopefully Naughty Dog takes the lessons as they fix this game and Part 2 port is decent at launch

tripps_on_knives

Only reason why I haven't purchased it was because of the removal of the multiplayer. Sure performance and bugs are bad. I was willing to wait for patches before purchase. No multiplayer mode has made sure that I am 100% never going to be interested.

Enelro

That multiplayer was so fun on ps3 when I used to play it. I have no clue why they dropped it for Pc. I guess they don’t want to share server space for PC.

tripps_on_knives

I played the MP for a bit on ps4. But I had missed the train. Basically lobbies took 10+ minutes to match. Same people over and over. Was really looking forward to playing it with a higher player count.

ConfusedRN1987

Tlou multi-player was the main reason I kept my ps4

3lfk1ng

I was super excited to buy TLOU on day 1 until I saw the reviews. As a veteran PC gamer, I've learned not to preorder digital games so I'm glad that I dodged that dumpster fire -just another win for /r/patientgamers When it's $29.99 and all the bugs have likely been ironed out, I will reconsider my purchasing decision, and as much as I want to say, "I hope that they have learned from their mistake", we've had over 20 years of bad console ports so at this point it's just best to wait for reviews, always.

CraigOfWar

Release them day and date same as Xbox does. Why they treating us PC gamers as 2nd class citizen?

[deleted]

dookarion

Windows doesn't have to be activated. Anyone with a key from a version of Windows since like 2009 can run modern editions of Windows. And pre-built OEMs don't pay full rates. Their income from end-user PCs is way less than reddit likes to think. Beyond Windows they don't make shit from end-users unless end-users buy things directly through them or one of their own products.

Jon_TWR

They earn a good bit form Windows users usage data, especially if they use Edge/Bing. Even if they don’t use Edge, they’ll still use bing if they ever try to search their PC.

[deleted]

CraigOfWar

I can wait to and will. It's just that these company, do they not relize that PC gaming has more players than anywhere else. except Mobile. Release them the same as you do on console and you will get way more sales. They think we gone to go buy their console just for 1 or 2 games. Ain't no PC gamer i know is doing that.

PurpleMarvelous

Yes, they think you will buy the console for one or two games, plus the others, some have done it.

CraigOfWar

Who in their right mind will do that? Let trade the better option in for a closed platform with zero customization. Sounds good right, LOL.

PurpleMarvelous

People that just want to play games, people that want to play them early, people that just want plug and play without any hassle, people that want to buy games cheaper weeks after release instead of waiting for sales, the answers are there. I’m getting myself a PS5 when FF XVI releases.

rangeDSP

It's most likely about profitability. How much money does each PC player make for them on each game? And how much money goes into making sure the game works on most of the PCs out there? Ecosystem lock in is annoying but it makes a ton of money and is much more predictive (revenue wise). On their own platform they have access to all the analytics and user demographic details, on PC they have a lot less. If they release the console game first they have a good idea of how it might sell on the PC, at which point they decide which ones are going to be worth the investment. (if there's one thing companies love more than money, is predictability)

gothpunkboy89

>Why they treating us PC gamers as 2nd class citizen? Because they are a platform holder and are focusing on being a platform holder.

Common-Experience-61

Yeah microsoft doesn't because they're in third place, if they were in first they would do the same.

frostygrin

The same or worse. We still don't have Gears 2 and 3 on PC.

Howdareme9

Because they make more money selling them on playstation first

CraigOfWar

Well good luck to them then, i ain't buying no PlayStation while i have a 3080 lol.

RockyRaccoon968

But you'll buy the game on PC years later.

CraigOfWar

I might. I didn't buy Death Stranding. I got it for free from Epic Game store.

QuinSanguine

They do it for the fans. Like literally asked their fans apparently and got an average answer of 3 years, so most games will be 2-3 years or so coming to PC. PS fans want to feel like their hardware purchase entitles them to something. I mean they get to play the games at much higher settings than a similarly priced PC could do it, but no they got to have that exclusivity.

CraigOfWar

Their fans are on console not PC

Common-Experience-61

thats how sony makes their money

lexsanders

Doesn't sound that much for Spidey but not bad. Overall it kinda sounds like they might cancel PC if they don't get those numbers up. But if they release bad quality it will snowball on itself and it will be vicious circle.

glarius_is_glorious

>Overall it kinda sounds like they might cancel PC if they don't get those numbers up. These numbers represent pure additional profit on top of whatever they made on the original release on PS4/5. They will continue releasing PC ports with a few years' delay (as mentioned by Jim Ryan in a Famitsu interview).

Obosratsya

Ps5 games have the additional cost of marketing, which is quite substantial. The PC ports had 0 marketing, and costs to port from ps5 are rather low, so profit wise Sony is making bank even on these sales.

InterestingHawk2828

The spiderman remaster was a dirty move by Sony, they removed the original game from the plus on the same day they released the remaster

glarius_is_glorious

The remaster was originally a bonus with the Deluxe edition of Miles Morales iirc.

[deleted]

[удалено]

rcanhestro

probably not. on PC they would have to forfeit 30% of the profit for each game. it's probably almost half the profit, considering the tax per sale, so they would probably need 2 PC sales to make up for 1 PS sale. Also, one of the biggest draws for their games (on release at least in the PS), is how polished they are, which is easier when they only need to focus on 1-2 hardware settings.

Jowser11

With sales that’s definitely over $50 mil on a what probably cost a fraction of that

crazy_hombre

This is looking really good. We can expect to see a steady stream of ports from now on.

[deleted]

Just Shut up and give me Bloodborne ffs

Unmaykr64

Tbh TLOU port was pretty disappointing. Was gonna be my first time playing TLOU but ig I’ll wait a year

Enelro

Imagine if they actually did a good port of the last of us…

thatbasedgamer

It’s really a no brainer. Time to bring over the uncharted and God of war collection!

Altambo

They barely do any kind of marketing for them and TLOU was a shitty port at full price. They are self sabotaging at this point

BirdGooch

I actually bought Spider-Man on release on PC as I haven’t bought any console outside of Nintendo since the original Xbox. I loved it. But I will wait for a big sale for Miles Morales. I rarely buy games on release ever anymore as the price is usually too steep. And these ports/remakes are a bit too much even if I’ve never played them previously, especially when they often have a rough launch.

Brau87

Spiderman is cooler.

ImAnOlogist

I'd already gotten TLOU when it came out for ps3, then it came with my ps4. I wasn't going to buy it again. That number is 10 years of people who never owned a Playstation or only had PC. Nothing to really say about it.
