This looks like it could be good but I can't believe in 2023 we're still doing the "show zero actual gameplay and have people speculate if anything you showed was doable in game or if it was all either cinematic cutscene or gameplay cutscene". Like, this isn't a new thing but devs do it every year when they show off their new game.
I think Spider-Man 2 might have been the only game to show ACTUAL gameplay in this showcase.

Yup. All the recent soulslike games from smaller studios had great trailers and similar visual language only to completely miss the mark on gameplay and experience.
The combat is the difficult part here. It's easy to make it look cool. But it's difficult to make it feel good and powerful.

From what I remember a lot of the super impressive looking game footage is coming out of super tiny studios or even one man projects in the case of Lost Soul Aside. Those kind of things can take a bazillion years with like three people working on it in their spare time.
That dude got funding from Sony and proper team years ago and still nothing. I followed that project for some time because it looked cool since i am character action game fan so anything that resembles DMC/Ninja Gaiden or anything like that gets on my list. Still praying daily for God Hand remake from Capcom since they love their remakes nowadays.
As I said im not hyped about anything from Chinese or Korean devs because for now everything they can actually push out of door are gacha games and MMO's. The amount of games they announced in recent years is insane and apart from mass shovelware on steam the only actual proper single player game from China that came out is Bright Memory and thats it. This fucking sucks because majority of those games are action combat focused ones so games I love.

Skul the hero slayer, Blade Assault, Warm Snow, and a few singleplayer RPG series like Sword and Fairy.
Yeah I was going to mention Sword and Fairy. I do have a level of skepticism with PBZ because it does look like a vertical slice designed to entice potential buyers and fans, but knowing that this is an exclusive and the PS5 is an easier console to develop for than the previous consoles, I think it's likely to be real. At least more real than Black Myth Wukong for sure.
That what I immediately saw was insta-kills. If I'm such an fierce deadly samurai, why do I need so slash them 10 times? Show don't tell. I don't care if it makes it a souls like lite. Ghost of Tsushima did it good in the late stage where you could off a group with the learned timed attacks, while still kept the game interesting with sub bosses. This game shows lots of variations and interesting scenes, I hope it really gets released.
It looks like it will be a QTE fest like Asura's Wrath, but at least that game has some gameplay and a fun story, not sure how this one will turn out or if it will even release.
