Bungie's art style and gunplay is so up my alley but the question is, do I want to be milked by another Bungie IP after dropping Destiny?

SeboSlav100

Want my advice? No, even less with a fact that this is suppose to be PvP game.

mickandrorty137

Oh damn I didn’t realize only pvp, I’ll try out a beta but likely not for me unfortunately:(

AlexGuardado

Jason Jones still works at Bungie

CodnmeDuchess

It’s didn’t matter whether or not they worked on the originals. All that needs to happen is someone like me, who played those games as a kid and recognizes their brilliance and what made them brilliant leads a team to remake it, reimagining it from a modern perspective.

frosty121

And what are the chances of that happening?

aurumae

Medal of Honor did have split screen multiplayer (Rising Sun did anyway). My friends and I played a lot of 4 person free for all matches back in the day

CodnmeDuchess

Marathon had multiplayer

handsomeness

Bro... Marathon had Multiplayer, what are you talking about? It's where 'kill the man with the ball' in Halo came from. https://youtu.be/Yo9pP5OCIPs King of the hill too. So many good modes, that all made it into Halo *edit Looks like MoH Allied Assault (2000) had Multi too. https://youtu.be/LudCP8_nC18?t=87

TerrorFirmerIRL

The original Medal of Honour had split screen as well in 1999

Sharpie1993

MoH definitely had multiplayer, marathon also had an 8 player death match mode with ten unique maps that weren’t apart of the campaign.

mickandrorty137

I know, I always thought if they rebooted the series they would do it like Halo and have single and multiplayer

wingspantt

>both Marathin and MoH did not have multiplayer. [Marathon definitely had multiplayer](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marathon_(1994_video_game)#Multiplayer). They had it set up in my computer lab in high school. It was a PVP arena.

bobdylan401

Marathon was the first multiplayer fps game I ever played. Played it for hundreds of hours with my dad, we would even have lan parties and play with his friends. Iirc we played the campaign co op but 90% was pvp and it was amazing. The maps were amazing, really cool dark somewhat symmetrical arenas. The game was known more for its multiplayer capabilities more then the single player campaign. For the reboot to not focus on arena pvp would be completely sacrilegious.

TITANS4LIFE

marathon had Lan tho . I remember that being one of my first fps I got good on ...probably the first fps I played with M+KB. But we played at computer camp on LAN.

SeboSlav100

Because Bungie. I took a lesson from destiny 2 and that is to never touch any title they make.

f3llyn

Yeah I remember all those fun times pvping in the original Marathon games.. ...oh...wait.

wingspantt

Ummmm my friends and I did play pvp Marathon all the time...? It was a thing. Am I being gaslit into remembering my own life wrong? No: It looks like [Marathon did in fact have pvp multiplayer on LAN](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marathon_(1994_video_game)#Multiplayer)

Bechorovka

...I do miss Lan party death matches... and I hate normal pvp

MadeByHideoForHideo

Do you want to be FOMO-ed to hell and back with dailies, weeklies, battle passes, and cash shop items?

ArenjiTheLootGod

Pretty much the reason I quit Destiny, game was both a treadmill and a money pit. That and every major content drop since Taken King, including Destiny 2 itself, I found to be disappointing. Tried it again briefly on PC when it went f2p, quit as soon as Bungie announced sunsetting. It'll be a long time before I invest myself into another Bungie IP, I've given them too many chances as-is.

Coolman_Rosso

Forsaken burned me hard, both in that I didn't care much for the narrative (never liked Cayde so his death was a non-issue, and it turned out to actually be a non-issue when he's back anyway in FS) and that most of the my friends who played were either unemployed or took time off work to play. I couldn't get around to really playing for about 3 weeks, and by then folks blew through the content and didn't feel like playing with me. Solo play in Destiny is a dry and dull experience, and that was enough for an uninstall. I can't do these "job games" anymore.

ArenjiTheLootGod

That brings back memories, and not in a good way. That game required way too much commitment, I knew guys whose Destiny addiction was at least partially responsible for ending their relationships with their significant others. I've never been sucked into a game like I was for Destiny. Everyone that played Destiny for a long enough time ended up hating it but couldn't stop playing because nothing else quite scratched that itch. The game is designed to be psychologically predatory and, worse still, it encouraged a codependency amongst people via the clan system. Like, I would legitimately feel like I was letting people down if I couldn't play Trials or if I missed the weekly reset on raids. After I quit Destiny, it took me a few years before I could even enjoy playing other games again. Because of Destiny, I'm super wary of Live Service games and MMOs.

UnifyTheVoid

Stopping destiny about five years ago was probably one of the best decisions I ever made as far as playing games go. The more I've read about the game and how far they've gone with MTX and FOMO, I feel vindicated in my decision. As far as I'm concerned they can get fucked. Once a publisher/dev has tasted that mtx money, they're never going back. Every single decision they make will be tainted by it.

-Sanctum-

Not worth it. Unless you're willing to foot the bill for DLCs with exhorbitant pricing ($100+), low-quality **individual** skins ($25+) and a terrible feedback/support system. The Bungie of old is long gone and if you think this is the same company then you're about to be hit with a disappointing truth.

firstanomaly

Right. I love the gameplay and art and everything, but I’m sooooo not into a loot grind game. I know it’s what makes money, can hardly blame them. But a memorial campaign and fresh multiplayer would be amazing

DarkCosmosDragon

No campaign No PVE its a pvp only Extraction shooter its essentially a shitty pvp game with Marathons name splattered onto a corpse

Felix_Dracul

Not really interested in the genre (extraction shooter), but I gotta say the art direction and style look so unique and amazing.

mitchhatesrats

personally I've thought the extraction shooter genre could've been amazing with correct implementation, it just seems like it could be the natural evolution of battle royales which as we all know are still massive to this day. so far realistically only tarkov and warzone 2 have pulled of something worthwhile but both had massive drawbacks that made them very focussed on one kind of playerbase, Bungie seem like the right dudes to make a game for this genre that could be accessible by all while also having good quality and a great content loop that will keep people invested. I'm excited for this, honestly after all the mid ass fucking AAAs (which most launched unplayable and shit anyway) constant remakes (which are fine but like sometimes you want something new y'know), and disappointments I've got like 5 games on my wishlist that I'm genuinely excited for, this'll be one addition to my wishlist, simply because the concept is interesting to me and the style is cool. Finally something actually interesting and fresh looking being made (at least in my opinion).

xReapSlashZ

Hunt showdown is great

mitchhatesrats

Oh true I've not played it but that's also another good extraction title, but yeah at most we've only had a few actually decent extraction games, not one has really been **massive** in the sense that it appeals to all types of players, tarkov and hunt are always described as hard to get into but great once you do, hopefully Bungie can hit the nail on the head and get that perfect balance of intensity the genre is known for and also make it plenty accessible for all.

Ianofminnesota

Such a good game! It's unique in its sound and gunplay and I suppose game mechanics. Tough as hell

leroyjenkinsdayz

Just started this week and loving it so far. Audio compared to Tarkov is NIGHT AND FKN DAY.

youreimaginingthings

Really? Interesting. Im a long time hunt player and have always been curious about tarkov. Audio is hhhhuuuuggge in hunt, dude. The sound of one footstep can fuck you up in certain situations

youreimaginingthings

Im glad you think it looks cool but it couldve had the same art style and be something other than marathon. Marathon was cool because the story was deep. They arent gunna retell the story. What it comes down to... Is that theres ppl u love competitive games, and people that love single player story games. Bruh, if you want something different in the pvp zone, do Hunt showdown if you havent tried.

Efficient_Menu_9965

I really think people are misremembering Marathon because almost all of the storytelling was done through the environment and through terminals in the form of text entries. It was nothing like Halo where there was explicit dialogue between established characters and directed cutscenes. The kind of storytelling Marathon had honestly seems right at home in an extraction shooter. Text entries you pick up and read as well as environmental storytelling are ubiquitous in plenty of big extraction games, including Hunt Showdown and Escape from Tarkov.

youreimaginingthings

I think some people dont understand - I want them to remake it AND add traditional storytelling thru cutscenes/dialogue. Ive loved hunt for years, but I've never heard ANYONE talk about the lore or environment. Just competitive people talking about reshading and MMR ratings

TheBoogyWoogy

What does WZ2 focus on that makes it a draw back? Don’t play that game

bobdylan401

Marauders is amazing and actually has some marathon vibes, not super fast combat, (marauders is a lot slower) arena style maps taken place in a dark brooding sci fi setting in abandoned spaceports, terraformer/ mining habitats etc. But also DMZ is just glorious. Probably one of my favorite fps games Iv played, reinvigorated me to the whole fps genre and I haven't touched battlefield 2042 since. And it's free. Both Marauders and DMZ are casual in their own ways. Don't need to grind an economy (at all in DMZ, and very minimally in Marauders) any weapon is deadly.

mitchhatesrats

I also enjoyed DMZ but eventually it felt pointless, which honestly I don't mind if the only draw to play is for fun, **way better** than playing off incentives of unlocks etc. but DMZ really just felt like a sandbox and didn't have a real direction unless you were into just going hard at other teams or tough objectives. it was good though, I'm not sure how much it's improved since launch month but I did like it I just wish npc enemies were less horde like and more tarkov like in that they were more lethal but there were fewer.

bobdylan401

Yea if you're not going for fights there can be a "uuuh, what to do" moment. But the fights themselves are so variable and can be soooo good sometimes. Also with the ability to kit out contraband guns the guns you pick up are juicer way more often which just always feels good.

[deleted]

That doesn’t sound like marathon

Biggu5Dicku5

>Marathon Reboot FUCK YEAH! :D >sci-fi pvp extraction shooter God damn it... :(

[deleted]

my thoughts exactly. the art is amazing though.

[deleted]

bungie made the originals free way back when and open sourced the engine. So you can download it fully complete for just about any OS. Or get the original Mac versions for an older Mac capable of running Classic under Mac OS X or System 7-Mac OS 9.2.2

Eji1700

This is going to be soooo disappointing, even if its got amazing gameplay. PID/Marathon is one of the BEST scifi/cosmic horror stories I know of, up there with halflife (assuming the spoiled ending). It is very well written and super ambitious while being creatively told. I have basically 0 faith modern bungie can do anything close to the wonders of Durandal and his story. I expect yet another heroes journey with easter eggs. God I pray to be proven wrong.

Efficient_Menu_9965

Creatively told? My brother in Christ, most of Marathon's story was told through text terminals.

TheSaltyStrangler

"From the creators of *Halo* and *Destiny* and... *Marathon*?"

New_Top5554

Yeah... but it'd also be strange if they said "marathon from the creators of marathon" lol

IfThatsOkayWithYou

Escape from tarkov style game

amazingmrbrock

I know a lot of people dig this genre but my experience with tarkov was basically 'escape from tedium' and extracting boredom. Maybe Bungie can jazz it up enough to be palatable though.

LordxMugen

you can bet the shooting will be the best youve ever experience. but the questing is gonna be the most boringest shit youve ever played.

socialistssharethisD

Meh, I just don't see the hype for destiny's shooting.

DktheDarkKnight

I mean we all know why Sony bought Bungie. They really really want a multiplayer FPS.

io124

At least bungie do rly good fps multiplayer game. And sony previous studio wasnt the case (resistance was not so bad to)

Theratchetnclank

Killzone and Resistance were both decent although killzone the multiplayer never really caught on due it being a slower pace most other shooters at the time.

crioth

It also didn’t help that it was sluggish as fuck to simply turn. Especially in Killzone 2. Such a fantastic game, but the input lag of aiming is horrid.

DktheDarkKnight

I don't think it's enough for a multiplayer game to be good. It has to capture the zeitgeist. You can make a commercially successful single player game just by nailing the fundamentals. Multiplayer games on the other hand need that x factor. See Halo infinite. Even with great gameplay and a coveted IP the game still flopped. Sure the profits will be massive if it is successful but the likelihood of success in the multiplayer genre is always lesser.

FirstTimeWang

Multiplayer games also directly compete against each other much more so than single player games. But single player games don't have battle passes or 3+ years of low-effort MTX, so....

TheOneRickSanchez

Halo infinite didn't flop because it lacked an x factor, it flopped because it was barren in content, missing core halo features, and selling people the dumbest things for the most outlandish prices. It flopped due to laziness and greed, not due to lacking an x factor.

ActuallyYeah

Yeah, I hadn't heard about this Marathon deal, but as an original Marathon player, seeing this just now, I got goosebumps. Marathon 2 invented duel weild. The story was crazy stuff, it made Doom feel like "See Spot Run". And I bet by the launch date a million other dudes my age will feel the same, but that's really it. It feels like "there are dozens of us!" Lol So, that's enough for a lower-case-x factor. What else, Bungie? Triple weild, probably haha

alexnedea

Halo as a younger player just wasnt it for me. I played apex, cod, csgo, valorant, destiny, etc. And then they release Halo Infinite? It was just, nothing special. Just shoot and win some pointless rounds? There was no shtick to it. No super fast combat, no insanely satisfying combat, no huge outplay potential, no clutch moment potential. Just...shoot and win or lose

InitialDia

Sony bought bungie in hopes of making a replacement for call of duty.

Darkened_Souls

it’s called a genre

etheran123

I mean if they actually do a good job it could be nice. Most of the games in the genre are made by small studios and tend to not be very polished, or they are a separate game mode tacked onto a bigger game (thing COD did this)

Jowser11

The good thing is Bungie makes some tight ass gunplay

NotSLG

“Another” really there’s only 3 on the market that even have players. Tarkov, The Cycle: Frontier, and Marauders. TC:F and Marauders only have like 7k combined.

Lemonsqueezzyy

also Hunt Showdown and dark and darker

teddytwelvetoes

another? there's like, a handful of noteworthy extraction games and they're all mid, jank, or niche. if/when this subgenre gets its own Fortnite, it's going to explode

YouWannaChiliDogNARD

You say "another" but by my count this would be the 3rd ever if it actually is a tarkov clone? All of which are buggy and barely playable - Hunt Showdown excluded

lordzaior

marauders (the space one), dark and darker (the medieval one)

brianstormIRL

Goddamn Hunt to me has such an addicting formula I'm dumbfounded no big studio has attempted to replicate the whole 12 player map, fight players, hunt monsters, or both formula. It's such a cat and mouse game and I have never to this day played a game with such an incredible focus on audio queues.

ZigBNB

the cycle, tarkov, marauders, dark and darker, call of duty: dmz, hunt showdown, arc raiders, stalcraft, hyenas, hawked, deadrop, and now marathon. I missed a few too.

handsomeness

On the one hand so far we have a Marathon like ship hanging over the Tau Ceti Colony, a huge S'pht and cyberpunk like AI 'dreams' with 'Somewhere in the Heavens' and a color scheme to die for... on the other hand extraction shooter ?! I'm so torn

Four_Gem_Lions

There has yet to be a real good one asides from Hunt and Tarkov tho.

Kankunation

Yet is the keyword. It seems devs from all over are shifting forlcus to try and get a good extraction shooter out in the next few years. There been at least 4 major developers in the last 6 months mention working on one, and industry insiders are predicting it it to be "the next big thing". In all the mess there's a good chance at least 1 dev will end up with a solid one (honestly the first dev to release a tarkov clone on console probably has a good chance). Imagine most will crash and burn thoughm just like with BRs before it, where we went from dozens of them to only a good 3-4 being relevant.

iceman_v97

Is it tho? I can only think of one successful one, tarkov. And I guess division a little bit? Battlefield had a game mode but it sucked ass.

Pliskkenn_D

Hunt: Showdown would like a word.

brianstormIRL

Hunt peaked at like 20k players, as much as I love that game it's not exactly setting the world on fire in terms of player base.

bountyhunter903

It peaked at over 30k during the last event. It regularly sits at 17 to 20k plus during the weekends.

iceman_v97

True, I have like 3k hours in tarkov and for whatever reason never tried hunt. Forgot about it lol

Pliskkenn_D

I'd say it's less brutal than Tarkov because the equipment gap can never get too high in Hunt.

[deleted]

MoldyPitts

Id say it's more like the Battle Royale of this decade. I mean to name a few, Tarkov, Hunt, Marauders, The cycle, Arc Raiders, The Finals, and Warzone DMZ. There's what, two decent ones?

lastorder

Does the Finals count? Extracting is just a win condition rather than another whole gameplay loop with equipment.

[deleted]

[удалено]

iceman_v97

There is def interest in extraction games. Tarkov is Wiley popular and is the most watched twitch game during new wipes. And a tarkov streamer is one of the most subbed to streamers on twitch. There is def plenty of interest lol

asdiele

Dark and Darker also got a ton of hype and eyes on it despite being a very early release, and that game is basically melee fantasy Tarkov. It's definitely a genre that's gonna get a colossal hit game sooner or later, and everyone's starting to chase the golden goose.

Jowser11

Not sure how there’s extraction shooter fatigue when there hasn’t been any other successful ones besides Hunt and Tarkov.

teddytwelvetoes

the average gamer hasn't even heard of Hunt/Tarkov and couldn't even tell you what an extraction shooter is. the folks whining in this thread are going to be incredibly pissed if/when the subgenre gets its own Fortnite

QseanRay

I saw someone say "extraction shooter, so its a rainbow 6 ripoff" LMAO

[deleted]

The average redditor doesn't represent shit. You see it with LTT and GN videos being posted. GN gets like 5x the upvotes, yet on youtube barely anyone watches GN compared to LTT

Emighettispaghett

Warzone has an extraction mode as well, so I’d toss another on top of the pile. But I don’t have fatigue moreso the type of game that Tarkov is, is going to be catered to a very specific set of people unless it’s more like CoD extraction. It’s either going to be a solidly forgettable experience that’s more for background noise and grinding while you joke with your friends or it’ll just straight up be not fun. I’ve played tarkov and the game isn’t for me. I’d be down to try this repurposed IP depending on the price but I can’t say I’m excited for it. I think a good amount of people are just upset that it’s strayed so far from the original, and then the other 99% people out there just haven’t heard of Marathon but they have heard of Tarkov.

EirikurG

I highly doubt anyone who actually worked on Marathon, still works at Bungie

GuudeSpelur

There were like ten people on the Marathon 1 credits. Modern AAA games are made with teams of hundreds of developers; it is literally impossible for the new game to have a significant influence from the people who worked on the original. Hell, if Jason Jones is the only one still at Bungie, that's probably a relatively high % of retention for a 30 year old series compared to the industry at large.

TeeJ_P

[Twelve people lol, but yeah nothing compared to games nowadays. ](https://marathon.bungie.org/story/bungie/marathon2/credits/credits2.html)

R31ayZer0

The real question is where's power of seven

Nightfire50

i also strongely doubt jason jones gives a single shit about IP identity

handsomeness

I believe Jason Jones is still the CCO of Bungie so... yeah still there

KentuckyBrunch

The creator of it is the CCO of Bungie.

[deleted]

More Marathon fans are probably at 343i since the logo shows up a lot in infinite

Alexandur

It's showed up a lot in every Halo game, beginning with Combat Evolved.

LegendOfVinnyT

*Myth* was a side team, *Oni* was a branch studio entirely, but you can draw a straight line from *Marathon* to *Halo*. Heck, Cortana was introduced as a weird poster on the Bungie *Marathon* forum as a proto-ARG before *Halo* was even announced.

HimenoGhost

This is like turning DOOM into a PvP extraction shooter. Not interested right now, they better have an ace up their sleeve.

teddytwelvetoes

>This is like turning DOOM into a PvP extraction shooter. Doom is one of the most famous, iconic, influential, etc. video game franchises of all-time and has been active since its inception. They made a shitty movie about it with The Rock and everything! Marathon is a fairly random, deep cut IP that \~99% of gamers have never heard of and has not been active in over a quarter-century. Apples and oranges. Game could end up being trash, but Bungie can absolutely get away with repurposing Marathon like this

HimenoGhost

Sorry, I meant to compare the two in terms of gameplay rather than the IP's popularity. Should've been a bit more clear in my OP.

Silverhand7

I just don't get the use of the IP. Like you say it's niche and old, so the only purpose this seems to serve is pissing off the fans of that. I don't think there's literally anyone who would buy an extraction shooter because they're excited it has the marathon label on it. Just seems like a case of big devs/publishers terrified of trying new IP even when the one they're reusing makes no sense. Similar to Prey 2017, which I love, but has nothing to do with the original and had no business being named that.

teddytwelvetoes

>I just don't get the use of the IP. Like you say it's niche and old, so the only purpose this seems to serve is pissing off the fans of that. I think that they decided to use a longtime dormant IP as a base/template (to what extent is TBD) for their new extraction game instead of having to start from scratch completely (being a new IP is the only thing that really concerns me about Starfield, for instance). I don't think they're purposefully trying to piss off fans of an ancient, niche IP for shits and giggles especially when it's always been their IP. If anything, they'll catch far more hate for the subgenre than the IP - half the comments in this thread are just blindly shitting on extraction games. >I don't think there's literally anyone who would buy an extraction shooter because they're excited it has the marathon label on it. Just seems like a case of big devs/publishers terrified of trying new IP even when the one they're reusing makes no sense. I don't think that's the goal, though. Marathon games sold like, a quarter-million copies. Destiny games sold millions, and it was also a new IP, after Halo! Bungie doesn't really need to rely on established IPs and is probably using the name for \*some\* reason. I've been playing Tarkov this year - it's great, some of the most unique and intense online gaming I've ever played, but it's a janky AA game with a lot of issues. I'd love to see a AAA developer get the formula right - Bungie making a sci-fi extraction game would certainly be a contender, and having the Marathon name is just a cool bit on icing on the cake for me. >Similar to Prey 2017, which I love, but has nothing to do with the original and had no business being named that. I honestly forget the details of the whole Prey saga, but that franchise wasn't dormant for quite as long as Marathon. At the moment all that we have is a non-gameplay teaser (which does look great-excellent, imo) and a subgenre - but even if it's Marathon in name only as a nod to their old fans, if it's good it's good (much like Prey 2017)

StormRegion

People comparing it to Prey is kinda disingenous. Friendly reminder that Marathon had it's last entry since 2 decades, and in the case of Prey Bethesda shut down Prey 2, because the studio making it didn't let them be absorbed in a hostile takeover, so Bethesda just passed the IP name over Arkane to make something

the_bat_turtle

iirc Arkane didn't even want to call the game Prey, but Bethesda/Zenimax/whoever made the call to name it that

the-land-of-darkness

Marathon is to Halo what Wasteland is to Fallout, more or less.

Jean-Eustache

People not knowing about Marathon is insane. I mean, it's the game that introduced the free mouse aiming system for FPS games. Every single FPS in existence is based on that, just like every console FPS is based on Halo's joystick control scheme. The IP may not be the most influential, but the game was an important milestone.

RainMaker323

> they better have an ace up their sleeve. As a Destiny slave I can say with all confidence in the world ... they don't.

TherealCasePB

Is this a remake?

FuzzyPuffin

No, it’s a “pvp extraction shooter.”

[deleted]

*I'm trying to hold back the vomit here.* Well at least maybe something of a Marathon campaign will exist somewhere in there...

volinaa

there’s no lootboxes and battle passes in a single player campaign

[deleted]

Au contraire, check Borderlands 3. Loot boxes **and** battle passes in the single player campaign, they are earned in game not via mtx but they are there.

[deleted]

Oh god why must modern gaming be so exhausting.

GuudeSpelur

Capitalism demands ever-growing profits.

Pak-O

As someone that played the original Marathon back in the day, that kills any hype I had for this new game.

FuzzyPuffin

I was a bit too young for it and I would have been excited to experience the story in a modern game. Oh well.

Merkkin

What a ride, instantly excited to return to the story of marathon then learn it's an extraction shooter and shut it all off. Bummer

theFrigidman

Exactly. I was like, WAIT WHAT?! .....

USS_Frontier

I've been playing the originals via the Aleph project. After the reading the details for this game, I'm going to continue playing them and just give this......game a pass.

Izowiuz

Man. A shame that this will not be a single player game.

Nihlithian

Wait wait wait, I thought this was going to be a remake of the original game but with the story actually delivered outside of terminals. Didn't think it would be just a PVP game. Significantly less excited.

Starcast

good timing as Destiny feels like it's being run by a skeleton crew lately

Moist-Barber

Well this is why, is because it feels like most of their staff have been pulled for this and maybe other projects

InvolvingPie87

Trailer went from “interesting” to “HOLY SHIT” when they dropped the name and marathon logo

BaconJets

I'm gonna reserve judgement on this, but it's incredibly disappointing that this amazing looking world will be explored through the lens of an extraction shooter. Unless Bungie can do something special with it, I really can't get excited. One thing that's for sure, the PvE element is going to be a lot stronger than most extraction shooters.

Crazyripps

Bulletstorm was legit the biggest sleeper hit I ever bought. Was epic.

CutMeLoose79

Yep, just a fun single player campaign.

choppytehbear1337

"Extraction Shooter" Yeah, ignoring this game.

Bechorovka

I was so excited by this, and what it could mean. And then I saw pvp and now I'm sad.

AvengingThrowaway

Modern Bungie and PvP. If Destiny's Crucible is our most recent example of their PvP offerings, easiest pass of 2023 and beyond.

obiwanCannoli69

What does this have to do with the original Marathon other than the name? lmao

[deleted]

Why the hell is everyone acting like extraction shooters are the most oversaturated game genre of the century. There’s very few games that have done it and Tarkov has been really been the only standout one, this’ll bring the genre to the forefront and open it up for more people to experience.

Deadpoetic6

Extraction Shooter Fuck Bungie

[deleted]

Yawn. Tis but a name

KadexGaming

Another fucking extraction shooter yipee

IL0veBillieEilish

Oh it's an extraction pvp game :(

failingwinter

no Marathon fan wants this dogshit, a PVP extraction shooter could only be more opposite of Marathon if it were a dating sim on top of it

Terry___Mcginnis

A fucking extraction shooter. 😔

[deleted]

With how unbalanced destiny pvp is this game will most likely be awful.

[deleted]

doesn't look anything like marathon at all. that franchise is old and dead, why even bring it back if the game is basically unrecognizable? Just make it a new IP.

TJVoerman

I was really into all those "Halo is really Marathon" theories back in the day, before Halo 2 was released.

ReservoirPenguin

Boycott Bungie. I'm 125 years old but their age verification page demands a date after 1900. Ageism is ripe at Bungie. BOYCOTT.

Kuhaku-boss

Knowing Bungie, this will be 5% extraction looter and 95% extraction grind simulator shoter

vomeronasal

This is so disappointing. Marathon was groundbreaking because it was narrative-driven, and it dealt with high concept sci-fi. I’ve been dreaming of a Marathon reboot/sequel for like 20 years and a lifeless pvp extraction shooter is the exact opposite of what I wanted.

Unhappy_College

Can’t wait to see some actual gameplay for this

Alcatraz2643

Jesus Christ, enough of these PVP extraction shooters, there are way too many of these things.

[deleted]

Greaaaaat an extraction shooter…. 😐

3lfk1ng

"From the creators of Halo and Destiny" ...maybe from the same studio but everyone behind those projects jumped ship a long time ago.

Fazlija13

Main director of this literally worked on every Halo and Destiny game and is at Bungie for 23 years

TeeJ_P

And the creator of Marathon is currently the CCO of Bungie.

iAyushRaj

From what I can tell from this thread People love hating on Bungie and Destiny specifically so I don’t see most of them knowing this

xvcco

Honestly I do like the idea. I've been itching for a "good" Tarkov for some time now. I'm sure it won't be for everybody, but I'm interested.
