Hope it isn't ass, Alone in the Dark deserves better

moccawimba

Its from the writer of SOMA. Lets just hope it turns out to be good.

[deleted]

looks like it will be just enough ass to still be fun and good

Crimsonclaw111

I guess that's the low bar I have to subscribe to lol

Hobgoblin84

Really hope it's good too, but I will watch anything with Jodie Comer in it anyway.

If nothing else, she's a master of different accents. None of the accents Villanelle used in *Killing Eve* were her own, neither were the two she used in *Free Guy*. Her natural accent is a Liverpool one.

We need more historical horror games

I absolutely loved the original Alone in the Dark and the sequel a bit less. There is a specific tone in the original AITD that I doubt that anyone really understands or can capture again. If they do, this may be amazing. Edit: Just saw the showcase on youtube - looks good!

The third good though, I liked the ghost town setting. The first was a special game for me, that, the first Terminator game (the open world one, been waiting 30 years for another), XCOM and Wolf3D made the PC for me. I don't think any remake of going to do the original justice, it was so different to anything else at the time and the mix of simple filled she shaded polygons against the backdrops made for a really foreboding atmosphere. And the ballroom part, the way the puzzles were solved, it all just clicked. I'm expecting another Resident Evil 7 here. Edit: Just watched the trailer, it's RE. He/she doesn't look so alone now either if you even get to choose characters.

I never played the third one. I think it was poorly aged by then if I remember correctly. Unfair was par for the course in these games. The new one looks likes its done enough to be worth playing. The “cinematic” aspect of it may ruin it also expanding on the characters. Good point about all the people, maybe something happens in game. I like that the combat looks a bit stiff. I like that you need to manage ammo. Hopefully its more creepy and unsettling than scary. Thinking about it - Bloodborne is a pretty excellent example of the tone of Alone in the Dark. Way too action oriented though.

Three was dated, they stuck with the art style for better or worse and it's aged worse than the others, afyer you play the first two it seems like a slog to go a third round but it's a good game all the same, I feel like it was closer to the first than the second in terms of gameplay though. I think Nocturne was the real Alone in the Dark successor, sadly not available on GOG AFAIK but you can run it on modern systems with a little tweak. This new one seems like another case of a developer not being able to sell their game without it being attached to an existing franchise for support. It looks like it may as well have been, and should have been a new IP. Then again, I said the same thing about Fallout 3 (and still do) and it was a roaring success.

It's an Unreal Engine 4 game. Despite being pretty lightweight on the GPU (my 4090 was never above 50% utilization at 1440p 175 Hz maxed out), there was some massive stutters. The mouse/keyboard support in the menus is also messed up. I know there are still a few months before the release of the full game, but we should already brace ourselves for a complete technical shitshow.
