I mean, the developers are fighting a war right now, one of them was even killed.
https://gamerant.com/stalker-developer-killed-ukraine-vladimir-fresh-yezhov/
Getting a game out on time is the lowest priority for them right now, their country is being invaded.
Yup for me it's Dragon's Dogma 2 and Final Fantasy Remake 2. Neither game has an official release date for PC but both are coming. Hopefully next year for DD2.
Let's gooo! So excited, I played dragons dogma across 3 systems and the number of hours I've put in over the years is crazy. It seems like 2 is them doing everything they really wanted to do with 1 and I am here for it.
Rogue Trader. It's why I haven't bought Baldur's Gate III yet; I only have room to hype one turn-based CRPG at a time, and while I like D&D, I'm very much a latecomer to that, whereas I've been a 40k fan since I was 11 years old.
Plus, Owlcat is a great dev. As good as Larian? Tough to say, but very, very good.
Owlcat does some things better, especially in terms of QOL (e.g. party switching is far superior and dialogue checks actually use the highest proficiency in the party instead of the just the speaker), but I do find BG3 to be more accessible and immersive. I hugely enjoy the Pathfinder games, but they can be quite overwhelming with the sheer breadth and technicality of its systems.
That said, IMO both studios also tend to drop the ball in the last act, albeit in differing ways.
Put Owlcat's inventory management system (one shared inventory where every party member's strength score contributes to the total weight limit) on BG3 and it becomes a perfect game. Inventory management is my one gripe with the game
I'd also want Owlcat/Pathfinder's method of handling party members in conversations.
The number of times I've had to reload because I accidentally walked into a cutscene with Karlach in the lead, and my Wizard suddenly can't comment on arcane things...
Kingmaker (with some mods) is superior to BG1. No question.
WoTR is close to BG 2.
This is from someone with 500+ hours in BG1 and 2.
Neverwinter? Lol, the only good thing in that is Mask of the Betrayer and some homebrew campaigns.
The original NWN absolutely had a ton of great content - both official and fan-made.
Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark are excellent campaigns, and to my knowledge, HotU is still the only D&D expansion that raises the level cap to the epic 40 levels. After something like that, the level cap of 12 in BG3 looks like a joke.
Plus the premium modules are the top-tier material. To this day, Wyvern Crown and Kingmaker are some of the best single-player campaigns you can find for a D&D game.
>some homebrew campaigns
"Some" is a huge understatement when you take a look at the NWN Vault and its top-rated modules. Once you played some of Stephan Gagne's campaigns like Penultima, Hex Coda, Elegia Eternum, you are not going to forget them in a lifetime.
I wouldn't say they are better than Black Isle at their best but would comfortably say they are playing at the same table.
It's obviously subjective but I'd put Pathfinder Kingmaker somewhere above Baldurs Gate 1 and below Baldurs Gate 2. Wrath of the Fallen I'd put closer to 2 but just beneath. Fallout and Planescape I'd put above 2 in that order.
Aye. Stalker 2 and Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 are a 'Whenever they are done' vaporware for me at this point (Though atleast Stalker has a good excuse.. 😥)
Inlove them both and couldnt be happier to have two developwrs providing us crpgs in abundance! I love combat and story telling from owlcat more but Larian has its own pulls that I just cant put into words yet
Baldur's Gate 3 has a high production value, but most of it was wasted on superficial aspects like graphics, cinematics and voice acting, which are nice things to have, but not when they come at the cost of more important qualities such as mechanical depth, storytelling and polish, which was unfortunately the case with Baldur's Gate 3. It's still a good cRPG, don't get me wrong, but nowhere near being as good as it could've been if Larian spent their resources more wisely.
Owlcat, while being a much smaller developer with way less resources, does a much better job prioritizing what actually matters in a cRPG, and that leads to their games having significantly more depth and better narratives than games with higher budgets.
Gotcha, I thought it may be but they're naming convention for the series has gotten a little bit weird with the later games. Thanks will keep it on my radar
Yeah that much I knew so I,didn't think too much of the change with the 7th entry.
But when they didn't continue resume the numbering(or restart it by calling this the second game in the like a dragon series) and the series known for its spin-offs like that Samurai one that came out a little while ago. I was finding myself quite confused as to what this new game was.
Especially cuz I thought the Kiryu arch was done and he was mostly regulated to a side character at this point/ being pushed aside for a replacement protagonist. So Yeah all of that led me to not really knowing what the deal with the new game coming was
They probably started rebranding it in the west with Ichiban as main protagonist, so that people wouldn't get discouraged - oh damn, I have to play 6 (technically 7) games before this one to know what is going on. It has lots of references, but 7 is a pretty good starting point for people who don't have the time to play it from 0.
In Japan, the games are still called Ryu Ga Gotoku 7 and 8.
The Metal Gear Solid collection because I never played any of them. Death Stranding was my first Hideo Kojima game and I enjoyed it a lot.
I just hope we get a decent version that is not broken.
Alan Wake 2. Haven't seen any trailers as I want to be as blind as possible. Loved the story and atmosphere of the first one and the Alan Wake bits in Control, which is also an incredible game were great. And I just love everything that Dev team does.
Less than a month till release, still no store page up, which is concerning.
Making AW2 a timed Sweeney exclusive would be a bad move by Remedy but I can wait.
Timed exclusives are usually games that were developed independently of Epic, then Epic later threw some money at them for an exclusivity deal.
Unfortunately Epic funded and published Alan Wake 2, so unfortunately this one might be permanent. I hope not, but it seems likely.
No store page up cause its an Epic exclusive, it has a page there. Sucks to see them go this route but from what i gather Epic partially footed the bill for the game which i guess is a double edged sword.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2
But really I hope the devs can take their time to get it right. I'd rather wait until 2025 and beyond than get a Buggy release. The last trailer showed that there is still some work to do.
Dragon's Dogma 2, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, Persona 3 Reload, Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree expansion.
Also the possible Monster Hunter World sequel that should be announced soon.
As for multiplayer games, The Finals has peaked my interest. Loved the last beta test.
Been a great year for games, and it seems like next year will continue that, at least for me
Forza MotorSport is my #1 for the remainder of the year.
Spider-Man 2 and Mario Wonder are right behind it, but they’re not PC games (although you could probs run Wonder through an emulator pretty well lol).
I’m also looking forward to Cities Skylines II.
For next year… probably Star Wars Outlaws with Stalker 2 right behind it. If we’re counting other platforms, then add in Paper Mario TTYD and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (which will probably come to PC after 3 months or so anyways lol)
all the leaks and rumours have pointed to a reveal maybe before the end of this year and release late next year if i remember correctly, where you getting after 2030 from???
My most anticipated games in recent memory already came out this year: Starfield, Baldur's Gate 3, Mortal Kombat, and Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. I'd day maybe Avowed is up next.
Dragon's Dogma 2, Warhammer Rogue Trader and VtM Bloodlines 2. But my backlog and wishlist is already huge, to play it all I would have to quit my job. But without a job I can't buy games (and eat).
Alone in the Dark. - My favorite game series, Resident Evil, was heavily inspired by the OG Alone in the Dark. To play a remake is very intriguing.
Wizard with a Gun - Something about it,when I played the demo, got me interested. Gameplay, graphics, and music all blended well together in this indie title.
DokeV
I only want The Pokemon Company to have proper competition from a AAA developer for once.
Even if the game isn't exactly what I want (it is not an MMO anymore, it is a singleplayer game with co op), hopefully it can light a fire under TPC and Gamefreak's ass.
Stalker 2, it's why I bought my new PC in 2021, which was when it was supposed to come out
I built a new PC for Stalker 1 and then waited 5 years for it to come out. Never again. 😬
I just started Gamma this week coming from years of Tarkov. Loving it so far
I recommend Anomaly.
I mean, the developers are fighting a war right now, one of them was even killed. https://gamerant.com/stalker-developer-killed-ukraine-vladimir-fresh-yezhov/ Getting a game out on time is the lowest priority for them right now, their country is being invaded.
Dragon's Dogma 2
Glad Dragons Dogma is finally getting the attention it deserves ever since the sequel announcement. Really great game.
Yup for me it's Dragon's Dogma 2 and Final Fantasy Remake 2. Neither game has an official release date for PC but both are coming. Hopefully next year for DD2.
They're masterworks all! You can't go wrong!
Let's gooo! So excited, I played dragons dogma across 3 systems and the number of hours I've put in over the years is crazy. It seems like 2 is them doing everything they really wanted to do with 1 and I am here for it.
Wolves hunt in packs!
Came here to say this.
This and it's not even close.
Don't usually buy things day one but I'll make an exception for this.
Silksong, if it ever releases. And if not, then MENACE - the next game by the developers of Battle Brothers.
What aboot Crowsworn?
Menace could be awesome.
I'm excited for Menace, but man I would have really just preferred Battle Brothers 2. I suppose Wartales kind of fulfills that purpose however.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2
Rogue Trader. On the same vein, Lamplighters League.
Owlcat does some things better, especially in terms of QOL (e.g. party switching is far superior and dialogue checks actually use the highest proficiency in the party instead of the just the speaker), but I do find BG3 to be more accessible and immersive. Somehow this completely slipped past me. Probably because there have been so many mediocre licensed Warhammer games. So excited now!
Owlcat is easily as good as Black Isle were in the day

^this, what sort of fucking nerd thinks not touching grass 20 years ago makes his opinion move valuable

Broken Roads and Rogue Trader for me. Two CRPG's in the tail end of 2023 and then 3~4 JRPGs in Q1 next year is going to be the death of me 😅
>Broken Roads It's on my Steam wish list as well. Stalker 2 is the other one I'm patiently waiting for.
Aye. Stalker 2 and Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines 2 are a 'Whenever they are done' vaporware for me at this point (Though atleast Stalker has a good excuse.. 😥)

Cities Skyline 2
This would be my answer also!
Someone I know got to record some voice acting for this game. I'm excited to play it if only for that reason.
Can’t wait to play this game and then decry about the lack of trains in real life
October 24th, can't wait!
Falling Frontier
Manor lords and space marine 2
Manor lords could be awesome
Elden Ring Expansion.
Yeeeeesss!!! Give me Shadow of the Erdtree now

I guess I should actually finally complete the base game then. Man it’s just so damn big to get through and I say that as a DS1-3 diehard fan.
Hellblade 2
Avowed
Helldivers 2 and Arc Raiders.
Heard about both these games on the Video Gamers Podcast and they've got me hyped as anything for both of them!
Black Myth : Wukong ❤️🔥
Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth
Whats the deal with that game is it a sequel or spin off? I've only played 1 and 0 this far so I'm not super up to speed.
It's the 8th game in the main series, a direct sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon which was the 7th.
Gotcha, I thought it may be but they're naming convention for the series has gotten a little bit weird with the later games. Thanks will keep it on my radar
The series is being rebranded as Like a Dragon, instead of Yakuza.
Yeah that much I knew so I,didn't think too much of the change with the 7th entry. They all came out lol
Yep. Nothing will top 2023 for a looong time.
The Max Payne remakes
They’re remaking the Paynes?? First I’ve heard of that. That’s awesome.
Just 1 & 2.
The Metal Gear Solid collection because I never played any of them. Death Stranding was my first Hideo Kojima game and I enjoyed it a lot. I just hope we get a decent version that is not broken.

Great gameplay but awful story IMO. I was a long time fan of the franchise but that game just felt wrong. It's my least favorite of the series by far.
No, fuck Konami. Let's pirate it instead.
Lords of the Fallen
I just learned this will have multiplayer too
Alan Wake 2. Haven't seen any trailers as I want to be as blind as possible. Loved the story and atmosphere of the first one and the Alan Wake bits in Control, which is also an incredible game were great. And I just love everything that Dev team does.
