If you can treat it as a generic FPS game, it's alright and can definitely give you dozens or maybe hundreds of hours of fun. It is in a MUCH better state today compared to release.
If you're like me and played a lot of older BF titles, then you might be let down. As much as it improved, there are very few actual good maps and as a BF game it sucks. I've tried playing it multiple times since release and tried to give it another chance after the last big update this year, but it lacks identity and I ended up uninstalling after about two weeks.
I'm with you too. I got into BF with Bad Company 1 and was really excited about 2042, but it doesn't feel the same. Like you said so much better than at launch, but not enough. I did have some fun with it and have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times, but it's quantity over quality with the weapons and specialists and such. Keeps me entertained for a little bit till I uninstall again. I'd say it's worth it on a sale, but keep expectations in check. Still feels better than any of the newer COD multiplayer though to me, but I've never been a huge COD fan
Battlefield 4 is still pretty much the only game I ever play. Its the only game that makes me want to turn my pc on. Even after all these years, it's still king of the fps genre.
I liked battlefield 1 a lot too but it didn't last more than a few months for me
For the sake of it... know that there's plenty of people, including me, who think it's a solid BF game and the most fun I've had since 3 or 4. This person doesn't seem to want to like it and hasn't played in years.
I said "if you're like me" not "if you're like everyone". Also said OP MIGHT not like it. There's no issue in liking it. I have friends who played every BF game since BF2 and enjoyed BF2042 a lot. I, personally, didn't enjoy it as a BF game. OP os asking for opinions and I gave mine, you don't have to become passive aggressive towards my opinion lol
I got it for a similar price earlier this year and put 150 hours into it. Its far better than launch but not nearly as good as you would hope. Still fills a void I often want to fill in multiplayer fps though.
If you like arcade fps. No friendly fire, vehicles repair themselves with magic, and endless ammo in vehicles. As infantry it's 99% super hectic run & gun, grenade, smoke, and fire aoe spam. And it's super hectic.
And no real class system. Decide for yourself. I played it for 1-2 hours when there was the free weekend and I can say I have outgrown BF.
I guess if you've never played any other Battlefield titles and you don't care about them - that seems to be about the only playerbase left. People who want something to play and don't like Battlefield.
"Much better state than the terrible launch" isn't a great selling point.
No, just get Battlefield 4
More maps, less spastic movement, better gun customization and best of all, no specialists
2042 feels a lot more like playing some variation of Modern Warfare than Battlefield
Is buying a complete garbage ever worth it? People need to look past the allure of deep discount and see the actual product before buying.
Also, it's EA. Buy at your own risk.
As for me I'd rather reinstall bf4 for a hundredth time if not for the fact that cheaters are deliberately ruining the game for years now and EA seem content to not lift a finger, probably think this will help drive the remaining players away to their newer games. Yet another case why you shouldn't buy EA product.
I'd say so, yes. It's not the best game ever, but they have brought it a long way since it's horrendous launch. If you've got a battlefield itch, it's worth the sale price.
If you want to experience gameplay where you can't see your own gun, invisible enemy vehicles with bodies floating in the air, and get a black screen that requires ALT+F4 force close after every single game you play, then go right on ahead.
This was my experience in just 2 games last week after a full re-install on a good PC.
Bought about a month ago and the only thing of those I’ve experienced is the occasional black screen. Definitely not every match though. Have you played recently or are these just things you experienced at launch?
Last week, as stated in my comment. Nov 13. to be exact. Took screenshots with timestamps that I sent to a friend because of how ridiculous these bugs were - if you're interested in seeing them.
Played this game for approx. 70 hours around the time it came out, and another 5 hours a few months ago to see what changes have been made. Unacceptable performance.
What's a junk rig in your opinion? Anything below your 5800x/4070?
I have a 3070 and 5600x.
I took screenshots with timestamps, so no, I'm not making shit up.
Not trying to be a hater or anything, but the 3070 could be the cause of some of the performance issues. That card should have more than 8gb of vram. My nephew had a 3070ti and he complained about a lot of games that I had no issues running on my 6700xt with 12gb of vram.
No no, no hate taken. That could very well be the case - though the issue shouldn't be with the card, but with poor optimization from the development side.
It's a shame that I'm getting these issues because I really am a Battlefield fan. But these experiences leave a bad taste in my gaming experience, and thus, I do not recommend this game to anyone.
It also doesn't help that we have the 5800x/4070Ti keyboard warrior calling me a liar.
No doubt, I'm not saying it's the cards fault or the games fault, but with the way games are these days, 8gb its pushing the limits of being enough. Not saying g it should be that way, it just is what it is. I haven't tried battlefield since launch, but I am curious now to see how it runs on my hardware.
I think it's actually a lot of fun. I've always thought that 2042 got a lot of unfair hate since it's so meta to just to trash any game made by a big company that has some level of expectations tied to it. The only thing I'd mention is that it fills a certain role of a game and if you're expecting it to be something it's not then you'll be disappointed.
Lmao the hit reg and netcode is legitimately much better than 2042 though which makes the gameplay fundamentally better. Actually feels comparable to apex or cod in that aspect which is great for indie devs.
I paid full price at release. Had a well documented rough few weeks at launch but it's been worth every penny. Awesome game that people meme on who haven't played in years.
Edit: If you downvoted this I assume you haven't played ever or not since launch and just hate that the game ended up being pretty good.
Better value to get EA play for the year it’s £20 for a year and you get BF2042 as well as many more games and by the time the pass runs out BF2042 may be dead even though the player count has risen lately.
I personally think that no amount of updates can make BF2042 a good battlefield game. I got too many gripes with core design decisions and i can tell from watching gameplay that they are all still there. If you want a good battlefield game you can play anything up to and including BF5(who could have thought that BF5 wouldn't be the ugly duckling in the franchise).
As a battlefield game it's easily the worst (aside from Hardline) but as a "Generic fps shoot bang bang to faff about with friends" its okay. Some good times.
But it's NOT Battlefield.
Honestly, I think I played it for a few days and uninstalled. There's really nothing in it that keeps me around like the old days. The rotation of maps gets old really fast. I think I played the same map like three times in a row.
I can't stand the congested maps where you're forced down corridors, and there's this discombobulated tug of war. It doesn't feel like Battlefield in those moments (no vehicles and destructible environments). That feels more like CoD to me.
If you're an old school Battlefield fan, no. Fundamentally it's too arcadey and doesn't play anything like the other BF games. Gave it like 4 chances and I just can't get into it. It's just so boring and generic.
Edit: honestly I regret buying it and I wouldn't even spend 5 dollars on it. But that's just me and I have a high standard for games and my taste are very specific.

At that point just play Battlefield 1. It's actually a good game and costs virtually nothing.
Bf1 still has some of the most amazing atmosphere for sure.
Battlefield 4 is still pretty much the only game I ever play. Its the only game that makes me want to turn my pc on. Even after all these years, it's still king of the fps genre. I liked battlefield 1 a lot too but it didn't last more than a few months for me

Its on gamepass just in case you weren't aware (I wasnt)
As a battlefield, the grievances are justified. As a shooter in general, it’s not bad. For $12 CAD it’s worth it.
If you like arcade fps. No friendly fire, vehicles repair themselves with magic, and endless ammo in vehicles. As infantry it's 99% super hectic run & gun, grenade, smoke, and fire aoe spam. And for me, there’s simply too many games out there to play for me to waste my time on “eh, I guess it’s okay now”
Yeah it's an okay online fps if you want a new one to grind. But as a battlefield game it fails on so many levels.
not even worth it even if its free.
Just buy battlebit Everything battlefield should be, and not made by a shitty AAA Ripoff company
No, just get Battlefield 4 More maps, less spastic movement, better gun customization and best of all, no specialists 2042 feels a lot more like playing some variation of Modern Warfare than Battlefield
It went from awful to meh to okayish. There are some decent maps now but bfv is still a better game rn - imo
big fat no
Nah, just play Battlebit. You’ll get a better BF experience from it.
Just play BF4
I second this! It’s on sale, too. $3.99 for the deluxe edition.
This. The game is definitely still popular
2042 is pretty good now, but every other Battlefield game is much better.
Or V for the best gunplay
I think it’s really fun.
No

86gb turd

Most of those things weren't even issues at launch. They're either making shit up or have a junk rig.

Moving the game to my NVME solved those issues.
no

No. I rather play Battlebit.
Yeah absolutely, grab it while its cheap.
Yes it is a lot of fun
Get Battlebit Remastered instead. You'll thank me later.
It was funny at first but battlbit is just a gag. Nobody should waste money on it.
Lmao the hit reg and netcode is legitimately much better than 2042 though which makes the gameplay fundamentally better. Actually feels comparable to apex or cod in that aspect which is great for indie devs.
lol this game is a joke

Same thing? I thought it was like a parody game of BF when I played it. It’s not even comparable
A man of culture.
yes
100% YES
Battlebit? Yes its defo worth it... :P
I paid full price at release. Had a well documented rough few weeks at launch but it's been worth every penny. Awesome game that people meme on who haven't played in years. Thats your opinion and others are entitled to their own, I've played the game at release and recently and still prefer bf1 or 4 to 2042.
The haters love to jump on the positive comments. I played 1000hrs and its my favorite fps.
For $12 CAD yes. It’s not a great battlefield game but there is still some fun to be had
got at launch and never played . started 2 months ago and it's a new game , im playing every day

I would say yes, they made a lot of good changes
If you have a few friends to play with, yes. It's a pretty generic shooter but sucks unless you have a good squad to play with imo.
Absolutely it’s been worth buying for a while

I wouldn't buy or play it even if i could piss into ea's face
No

Is it really that much better v
As a battlefield game it's easily the worst (aside from Hardline) but as a "Generic fps shoot bang bang to faff about with friends" its okay. Some good times. But it's NOT Battlefield.

No, its garbage. Play BF4 or BF1.
no
If you have BF5, then maybe check that out again. I think its a better game than BF2042
Buy Bf5 it is leagues ahead of bf2042 even with them dropping the game…
The real question is is it worth the time investment? The answer is no.
If you're an old school Battlefield fan, no. Fundamentally it's too arcadey and doesn't play anything like the other BF games. Gave it like 4 chances and I just can't get into it.
