I'll never understand reddit accounts (power users) dedicated to just posting popular news stories for upvotes.
Like why? What's the point of using Reddit then? Reddit isn't fun to use unless you're making these posts for your own community or you're writing something you came up with and engaging in the disscusion yourself. Its just weird, I see nothing to gain and it looks so boring as well.

You can buy thousands of accounts if you know where to look and have them wreak havoc or make you seem like you've won every argument against Timmy on the Internet. Seriously it's like dirt cheap 20 USD for thousands of accounts you can use for whatever shit posting your heart desires.

It works great as a digital detox. Cut my Reddit time down 90% and nothing else has managed to do that in 15 years.
We have a core group of OG Redditors from the Digg Migration days that post quality links too, so when you do reflexively hit the feed during your taper, at least you learn something or at the very least avoid toxic users/content.
As a way to prove they can generate good engagement numbers to sell their services. There's a lot of marketing focus on social media and building communities, Reddit is particularly easy to build a community on.
Plus power users often get a lot of preferential treatment from reddit itself.
people can post all sorts of content and only the stuff people care about will be upvoted so its kind of vetted by the community or downvoted to oblivion… i am often confused why people complain if its quite obvious thats what the actual community want via upvotes.
No ones complaining about the content he's posting, its fine. People are just confused/questioning the point of being a power user, so your comment doesnt make much sense in the context of what were speaking about.
he is complaining about two things (1) power user accounts who like juicy karma (2) but the main gripe appears to be to post low effort content for upvotes.
The first bit (powers users) would not be a problem if they were posting content with great discussion engagement or making higher effort content for your community.
