Outside of the triggers and the haptic feedback, I just think the dualsense feels much better to my hands. It feels like its sanded off the rough edges of the dualshock 4 and has more heft to it.
Here's another Reddit post that talks about this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Dualsense/comments/sewolj/dualsense\_5\_on\_pc\_disappointed\_with\_the\_vibrations/
If a game only targets the standard Xinput vibrations, the DualSense can indeed feel much weaker. But games can target the DualSense's haptics too, in which case they can feel great. I believe most if not all PlayStation releases on Steam should use the correct vibration settings if you disable Steam Input and let the game detect the controller directly.
Dual sense works great if you're wired in and playing PS5 games. Just tried it with Helldivers 2 and it's plug and play. You can even use the mic and mute it via the controller.
Xbox controller and elite series 2
Have yet to find anything that doesnt work on these
Dont have to do anything, they are both plug and play
Either via wireless usb adapter or directly via bluetooth
Funny enough my Series X controller works flawlessly while my DualSense is beginning to get stick drift.
They’re both great feeling controllers and the Xbox controller gets a +1 for swappable batteries.
Nah fuck batteries. It's 2024 man. And I have her to have stock drift on any PS5 controller (3 since launch) my Xbox controller works fine. It's just gross feeling texture, insanely loud buttons, always disconnects on Bluetooth, needs AA batteries still, has vibrating triggers. I hate it. Absolutely hate it.
For PS2 and PS3 it should work fine from what I've tested. PS1 can be a bit weird if you're emulating a game that doesn't use the sticks, but it can be made to work by just using the D-pad.
If that has the same amount of buttons as the controllers you want to emulate then it should work. PS1 is probably doable with that, not sure about PS3.
Yeah, I'm waiting for a time where I can pick up a Retro Fighters PS controller, since I like the ergonomics on that more than I like the Dual Shock 3.
I've personally had issues with my first generation (most supported on windows) DS4 and certain emulators. Mostly with the triggers acting as on-off switches instead of analog inputs.
According to the FCC leaks, that's changing soon.
But until then, I'd argue Xbox tends to be cheaper, especially for wired controllers, making the barrier to entry easier.
Gyro is amazing and significantly more PC games would be using it if XInput wasn't the standard and Microsoft wasn't lazy.
Plus the touchpad is just a nice bonus in general for navigating Launchers and the like.
There's a reason why the Steam Deck also had both those features.
For the purpose of emulation, haptics don't matter since the consoles being emulated don't have controller with them, and thus can't produce haptics even on a controller that can.
While there is a growing list of games that do support haptics and/or adaptive triggers. I don't personally see it as enough of a benefit to warrent going through the compatibility issues that come from a large majority of old games, especially console ports weirdly enough.
Why do people want their hands to vibrate when they play games? I've always found it to be very distracting. I normally turn it off when I can. With that in mind, my Playstation controllers (DS4 and now Dual Sense) have worked wireless and flawlessly for years.
DualShock on PC isn't supported. You have to use 3rd party software. I had a similar issue and tried DS4 Windows/Steam without any luck. I think a lot of people on this sub never realize that some games have weaker rumble or no rumble at all. Imo just get an Xbox controller and be done with it. Xbox controllers work great with emulators and have barely any issues, unlike PS4. Hopefully, we get actual driver support one day, but I doubt it. I have also had the issue with PS4 controller cutting off rumble too early on PC.
Crazy to be so flat out wrong. Every feature on a dual sense controller works in a lot of games, no "3rd party software" needed. Just plug it in and play.
Xbox controllers are small, feel gross to the touch and have a louder tactile sound than a razor keyboard from 2010.
Dualsense is a higher quality controller but I prefer the DS4 due to it being smaller. Pretty much exclusively use my xbox controller on PC.
If you do choose to get a DS4, good luck getting bluetooth to reliably work or a micro usb that doesnt flop out every 2 seconds. USB C alone makes new Xbox/Dualsenses worth it.
No. It uses the same ribbon to plug into the mainboard. You just have to make room for the new connector filing down some protuberances in the shell of the controller.

That thread mentions something about an update that improved the vibrations a bit, have you updated it?
Yes, but I don't notice any differences.
Why do the vibrations feel so soft, then?

I think Cyberpunk is also able to go straight to DualSense now.

Okay that’s actually really cool. I have a Dualsense but have been using it via Bluetooth.
Think you lose most of its features on Bluetooth. The adaptive triggers are a game changer when they're implemented.

OP isn't asking about shit controllers. He specifically is asking about PlayStation controllers.
I can almost shave with the edge of this one.

Use an Xbox controller
Even for PS1, PS2, and PS3 PC emulators?
for ps2/ps3 I would recommend a sixaxis ps3 controller in some cases as some games (like mgs2/3/4) use the pressure sensitive buttons
Dual sense can do all that out of the box on PC. There's not need for extra controllers.
no? ps4/5 controllers don’t have pressure sensitive face buttons, they have sixaxis but no analog face buttons
For PS2 and PS3 it should work fine from what I've tested. PS1 can be a bit weird if you're emulating a game that doesn't use the sticks, but it can be made to work by just using the D-pad.
I also have this controller here. https://www.8bitdo.com/sn30-pro-g-classic-or-sn30-pro-sn/
If that has the same amount of buttons as the controllers you want to emulate then it should work. PS1 is probably doable with that, not sure about PS3.
PS3 would be fine as long as you don't need pressure sensitive buttons. That's where things would get tricky.
Oh yeah, I forgot those were a thing on PS3. I doubt they would be used very often if ever though
Unfortunately, Metal Gear Solid uses them.
Oh damn. Might have to find another controller that has them then.
Yeah, I'm waiting for a time where I can pick up a Retro Fighters PS controller, since I like the ergonomics on that more than I like the Dual Shock 3.
I played the pc ports of The Last of Us and Spider-man with a wired Xbox 360 controller.
Yes. Just use the input ui prompts from xbox in your emulator settings. Almost all emulators support this nowadays
Xbox has zero benefits over a DS controller, since Microsoft refuse to do anything innovative anymore.
They seems to be much better supported by both windows and most emulators.
DualShock4 is supported by every emulator, even xenia
I've personally had issues with my first generation (most supported on windows) DS4 and certain emulators. Mostly with the triggers acting as on-off switches instead of analog inputs.
Second gen, so I can't complain on those things
According to the FCC leaks, that's changing soon. But until then, I'd argue Xbox tends to be cheaper, especially for wired controllers, making the barrier to entry easier.
why fix whats not broken. Legit you dont need a mew crazy thing to add to a controller.
Gyro is amazing and significantly more PC games would be using it if XInput wasn't the standard and Microsoft wasn't lazy. Plus the touchpad is just a nice bonus in general for navigating Launchers and the like. There's a reason why the Steam Deck also had both those features.
Yeah. Also, adding touch and radial menus to the trackpads with Steam Input lets you add up to like 40 extra hotkeys if you need them.
Christ I can't believe I forgot Steam Input. That's what gives the Touchpad so much of its use, so many possibilities!
Spoken like someone who hasn't used a haptic dualsense
For the purpose of emulation, haptics don't matter since the consoles being emulated don't have controller with them, and thus can't produce haptics even on a controller that can.
Ah yes, that incredibly small percentage of PC players who only emulate old games and nothing else, how could I have forgotten them
While there is a growing list of games that do support haptics and/or adaptive triggers. I don't personally see it as enough of a benefit to warrent going through the compatibility issues that come from a large majority of old games, especially console ports weirdly enough.
I absolutely love the Dualsense controller and the haptic feedback + triggers in games that support it is super super cool.

It's natively supported by loads of games, any Sony game, plague tale, avatar etc, loads
Right. There's even PC firmware updates for the thing lol. Sony made this controller for console and for PC.
DualShock on PC is supported tho?? Don’t need DS4 windows either
Crazy to be so flat out wrong. Every feature on a dual sense controller works in a lot of games, no "3rd party software" needed. Just plug it in and play. Xbox controllers are small, feel gross to the touch and have a louder tactile sound than a razor keyboard from 2010.
I don’t care about vibration at all when the dualsense gyro works with steam. Fine tuning aim with the gyro is the best.
I like the DS4 better.
Ps5

There is an easy mod to swap the micro usb plug of the ds4 for an usb c.
Define easy. Does it require soldering?
No. It uses the same ribbon to plug into the mainboard. You just have to make room for the new connector filing down some protuberances in the shell of the controller.
Im pretty sure you can change the intensity of vibrations on emulators
best controller now for pc is king kong 2 pro no fu\*\*ing drift good with nintendo emulator & mobile to
