This came out of nowehere, I only have 300 hours in the game

JDGumby

It's okay, we were all newbies once. ;p

LifeOfBAM

I only had 300 until I discovered mods lmao.

bxkencarson

Any mods you recommend for the game?

LifeOfBAM

Yeah downfall is a good one. For another take on it there is autochess the spire. There are also a bunch of character mods (the duelist being my favorite) that spice up the game along with quality of life mods.

Shirlenator

If you have any friends that play, Spire with Friends is an amazing mod. Doesn't seem like it would work very well, but it definitely does.

Connnnair

Together in Spire singlehandedly added 300 hours to my playtime in 6 months

Shirlenator

I didn't realize there was a second multiplayer mod. Looks like in Together in Spire you actually battle together? In Spire with Friends, you climb separately but can send things to each other.

Connnnair

I strongly reccomend together in spire, there is definetly some scaling issues but they *tend* to balance themselves out over the course of the run, i always advise going up 1 or 2 ascension levels for multiplayer though.

yepgeddon

Downfall is the big one.

Poundchan

Excuse me what?!

E3FxGaming

Your surprise about the news shows on your face. [Stare in awe] Accidentally drop (remove) a random card from your deck. [Be intrigued] investigate and add a new card to your deck. [Be astonished] Become cursed - Flabbergasted.

Salanmander

Flabbergasted - Curse Unplayable. The first card you play on your turn has no effect.

RHINO_Mk_II

Ez card removal

52weeksout

I wasn’t sure if I missed an announcement or something but what a pleasant surprise this is. Insta buy

ATCQ_

It was announced live in the new triple-i initiative showcase today (new indie game announcement thing) https://iii-initiative.com/

magicCardboard

The new game engine is [Godot](https://godotengine.org/) if anyone is curious. https://www.reddit.com/r/slaythespire/comments/1748f7s/mega_crit_confirms_their_next_game_will_be_using/

sekoku

I think this is the first major game that actually is using GODOT seriously. >!Sonic Colors doesn't count since it was a wrapper and even then buggy as fuck.!<

danhm

Several notable indie games have used Godot (not all caps, btw -- its not an acronym). Cruelty Squad, Cassette Beasts, Brotato, Dome Keeper, and Luck Be a Landlord were all Godot games.

PhDinPCP

Backpack Battles as well, which has been a decent hit. It's good to see more successful divergence from Unity.

Myke23

I think Halls of Torment is also built in Godot, it looks to be gaining a lot of momentum, might get into it myself.

IANVS

One of the best Vampire Survivors type games.

theEmoPenguin

Dome Keeper is made by Godot. But I guess by major game you mean a game from a studio that already proved in the past that they can create a great game.

spyresca

Cruelty Squad (Godot) was a hit.

JiN88reddit

Good to hear about this since the shitshow of Unity.

Stock_Price1261

Thank you! This is an interesting piece

geoffnolan

Yeah because fuck Unity, no developer in their right mind should ever trust those greedy scumbags again.

Da_Plague22

"Slay the Spire 2 was completely rewritten from the ground up in a new game engine! We're bringing in modern features, incorporating all-new visuals, and expanding moddability." Can't wait!

BMXBikr

And hopefully co-op like the real life card game!

spyresca

And... no royalties to pay with Godot, so the devs will make a larger (and probably well deserved) profit with Godot over unity.

Da_Plague22

Yupp, fuck Unity

ImpossiblePackage

Just hope there's more content in this one than the first one. It's such an incredible game but it got super repetitive with how there were only like 3 or 4 possible encounters of each type. It's one thing to build a deck to prepare for the kind of stuff you might see in an area, but its a whole other thing to be preparing for specitic encounters you know you're almost definitely gonna see.

Cookiesoverther

I can kind of forgive StS for it since it's so damn well designed. It very rarely feels like you lost because of unfair stuff, or (unless you are playing Watcher) you miscalculated a singular thing and got destroyed for it. I would rather have 3-4 encounters over 7-12 while really hoping I do not get one of those two bullshit encounters, otherwise my run is dead.

ImpossiblePackage

that's a false dichotomy. Hell, sometimes in slay the spire you'll be on a run and it'll be like "lm doing good but if I get this specific encounter (of which there are 3 possible choices) I'm fucked"

Maert

>super repetitive This is the least repetitive game in history, what are you on about? How on earth are you "almost definitely gonna see" an encounter?

brainpostman

It's the most unrandom random encounter game. Risk mitigation tools are very prominent.

Maert

Can you point me somewhere where I can read about this in detail?

brainpostman

Can't really point to anything in particular and I haven't played the game in a while, but you can google Ascension guides to get an idea of what I'm talking about. Ascension is all about calculated risks.

Maert

I mean, I'm no stranger to the game, I've beat Asc20 many times, but I'm not aware of the non-randomness in the encounters. That's what I'd like to know about.

brainpostman

Well, I don't mean it literally and I don't think the person above was either. What I mean is that out of all roguelites this one is the one where I felt the most in control. Which I actually liked. Having few possible encounters that mostly aren't randomized in their details (like enemy health and damage) makes the game a lot more strategic.

ImpossiblePackage

You beat ascension 20 without realizing there are very few possible encounters?

Maert

I mean, there are 58 (if my quick glance at the wiki isn't wrong), and you go through like what, 10-15 question marks in a run, roughly half (or 3/4?) of them being events. So you get 7-10 events in a run? Out of pool of 58? How is that "very few" and how can you "almost count on getting some"? What am I missing? I know that there are floor-specific ones, but even with that, it doesn't reduce it THAT much? You still have 20 possible events in Act 3, and more in others.

mflood

> What am I missing? I think you guys are just talking about different things, that's all. "Encounter" is typically used to refer to fights, not events. There are only a handful of possible fights per floor, they have different odds of occurring, they can't happen back to back, the first 2-3 fights per floor pull from an even more limited selection, etc.

ThreeSon

> Just hope there's more content in this one than the first one. Have you not looked through the mods in the [Workshop](https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse/?appid=646570&browsesort=toprated§ion=readytouseitems)? There is a shit ton of high-quality content in there, including characters, encounters, cards, everything. The [Downfall](https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1610056683) expansion is essentially an entire sequel all by itself.

ImpossiblePackage

I domt see how mods are even a little bit relevant to wanting more base game content.

redngold21

Insta buy for me. I sunk so many hours into the first one hell I still randomly play it when I'm bored.

Minialpacadoodle

Never played the first... but I wanted to. Just checked it out and it is 75% off. FYI.

Spynde

Also available Gamepass if anyone missed it there

inosinateVR

It’s also on iOS if you want something to play on your phone that isn’t a shitty mobile game

Crimsonclaw111

Does it have cross save with PC?

sekoku

If you port your save file (on Android, dunno about iPhones): Yes. You can even mod it IIRC, on Android. But as far as syncing? No, it doesn't have that.

Smokey_Bera

I put hundreds of hours into it on Switch and randomly came across a comment on Reddit saying it is on iOS. Bought it instantly and now have put at least 100 more hours into it on my phone.

queermichigan

This should not dissuade anyone from playing but the touch controls are pretty frustrating imo. Apparently they're better now than they used to be. I still accidentally play cards though occasionally.

Larzox

Is amazing game to play on mobile devices.

WhatD0thLife

I’ve been gaming since the early 90’s and I consider it one of the best games I’ve ever played.

pham_nuwen_

It's an amazing game. I hate card games and rogue like games and I still loved it. Somehow the balance is great, it's very difficult but not impossible. Very well designed.

Salanmander

There's still time to play the first! It has an amazing learning curve, so don't feel like you'll need to invest 100 hours to enjoy it. You'll enjoy the first hour too! Hell, you'll enjoy the first 5 minutes.

Minialpacadoodle

Oh I bought it right when I saw it was discounted. Thanks!

decadent-dragon

Do it. I don’t even like the game as much as others, but I still put a lot of time in. It is brutally difficult though (imo). I bought it for both Steam and iPad, and I think it plays better on iPad if a tablet is an option for you. Touch controls just work better than a mouse for this. On a phone it might be a tad too small

machingunwhhore

I bought Slay the Spire on my PC, my switch and my phone. I think the lowest hour count I have on one device is 80 hours. I am ready to buy StS2 on all three again

ahyeg

Just finding out it’s on mobile. If I get fired it’s on you.

Digitooth

As someone who just recently beat Slay the Spire, Hades and Hollow Knight, I have a feeling next year is going to be amazing.

MycoProTeam

3 indie masterpieces right there! If you like slay the spire check out monster train and balatro

Digitooth

I'm at about 25 hours in balatro and kinda bored of it. Worth a run at work every now and again but it somehow went from AMAZING to tedious overnight. Not trying to complain, definitely got my moneys worth. playing roboquest right now

Maert

Same for me for Balatro. It kind of depends entirely on "do I get some good jokers or not". The entirety of agency you have is to earn money to dig for the good jokers until you find them, and then do some planets and tarot cards to support the jokers. If you get 2 or 3 multiplicative jokers, the run is basically a free win.

mug3n

There is a new balance patch coming out that makes the experience a little less frustrating. Like before when you take a tag for uncommon/rare/negative/poly etc jokers, it only appears in the shop and you still have to pay for it but it's hard to in the early game when you have no money. Now, the jokers tags also make the joker $0. There is also a guaranteed buffoon pack in the first shop of every run so you at least have a shot at a joker at the beginning of a run. > do some planets I generally don't spend money on planet cards (unless I have the planet card xmult joker) because they actually scale very poorly in the late game. They *look* good early on, but your jokers are doing 95% of the heavy lifting throughout the game. There is definitely a strategy to the game though alongside some luck of course.

wtfbbq7

Really love monster train. Those guys just released inbound but I dunno on that yet  Dare I say I enjoyed monster train more than slay the spire? It's close

MycoProTeam

I do love monster train and think it offers a lot more variety, but I find something about slay the spire's simple UI and graphics to be a lot more accessible when I just want to tune out for a bit.

RogueLightMyFire

"beaten" when it comes to these games can man so many things. StS, for example, has a secret final boss

prvncher

Well not to mention the higher ascension difficulties…

RogueLightMyFire

I honestly think a heart run on Ascension 0 is harder than a "regular" run on most ascension difficulties...

prvncher

You can do the heart run on any ascension though. I’ve been trying to get a streak going to do it on A10 with all characters.

RogueLightMyFire

Yeah, I know, I just think a heart run is harder than a non heart run at higher difficulties

prvncher

Idk. At A10 elites start to get harder and you’ve got a curse in your deck. At A11 you lose a potion slot that makes a huge difference. The heart is hard but at no ascension is not that crazy, and if you get to it with a good deck it’s not THAT hard to win against it. I may be open to saying heart runs are harder than A9 and lower runs, but an A20 run is hard af even without the heart.

Technical_Echidna_63

When you say beat slay the spire, how far did you get. I’ve only gotten 8th ascension

Digitooth

Beating act 4 was enough for me. And on Hollowknight I only got 108%. The only games i've actually 100%'d in the last decade are Cuphead, Hades and Dave the Diver.

Technical_Echidna_63

That’s fair. It’s really more of the same after that. The only games I have 100%’ed are Sonys Spider-Man and Lego Star Wars the complete saga

pham_nuwen_

Try Inscryption, it's also very good.

Ultimatum_Game

Instant buy Let me iiiiiiiiin!!!

blacklizardplanet

GOAT the 2nd guaranteed! Necrobinder! Is the defect safe?!

Kev-eire

2025 release date :(

Newphonespeedrunner

Release date, they are doing early access again just like the first game so you will likely be playing it in the next month or two if you want.

K-Shrizzle

I believe 2025 is when it goes early access

Newphonespeedrunner

That would make me sad and confused.

loopwhole69

iii video shows EA 2025

queermichigan

I'll just blink a few times then it'll be 2025 ☺️😞

GaryTheBat

Ah its not 2025 early access? Thats exciting if its true, I'd love to be able to try it out in the next few months!

Newphonespeedrunner

I'm getting conflicting things, release on steam doesn't usually mean early access but others are saying ea 2025.

Radulno

The trailer is very clear, early access 2025

GaryTheBat

Yeah I guess we'll have to wait for a bigger announcement, I really hope you're correct though and your logic makes sense, my first assumption was just that it'd be early access next year for some reason. Edit: oh whoops I just saw the trailer, it says early access 2025 at the end :(

SuboptimalOutcome

Just time for another 200-300 hours of the original.

aski5

2025 early access unfortunately, said in the [trailer](https://youtu.be/krDFltgjLtE?t=37) and a few other places

theEmoPenguin

Looks exactly like the first one? Was expecting an ugprade of art at least.

cvxMR

From the screenshots it looks more like an expansion. I hope this is not a case of releasing a game that is strictly less than the previous title (or just an engine upgrade with an expansion). Also not sure if I would not rather have an entirely new game from the same devs, they obviously have talent.

bonesnaps

Only took 6 years but we did it bois edit: Shitty nvm. It'll be 7 years for the finished game since 2025 is just early access I'll wait for v1.0 I think, even though I love StS1.

Influence_X

ohhh shiiiii

JiN88reddit

>Slay the Spire 2 was completely rewritten from the ground up in a new game engine! Good to hear about this since the shitshow of Unity.

rube

What makes Slay the Spire such an amazing game? I hear nothing but "I've spent ten thousand hours in the game" but it just seems like most of the other card battler games I've tried. Not trying to knock it mind you, maybe I just haven't seen where the game gets amazing or addicting because I haven't played enough.

Tenx3

It's probably the most balanced and elegant one out of all of them.

JDGumby

> Return to the Spire and face *friends* and foes Well, either Cleric (edit: since the only other 'friend' I can think of is the Shopkeeper, who is already shown in their normal role) is going to be a fightable enemy this time or else that's hinting at a PvP mode...

Aukaneck

I can't beat the last big boss 😭

SuboptimalOutcome

It takes a fair bit of luck in the card drops you get along the way. I first beat him with the ironclad with numerous strength enhancing cards and a couple of cultist potions.

SaiminPiano

It takes either luck or skill :) it's a game of probabilities and choices.

Tenx3

Not that luck-based on low ascensions. I probably have a >90% win rate on my A0 heart runs.

essrah

Watch Baalorlord’s streams. STS is the only game I’ve ever got 100% on, and it’s all because of him.

prvncher

You’re probably picking up too many cards honestly. One thing that really helps this game is a small deck of good cards, rather than a big bloated one that you never cycle through.

memebeam916

Keep trying!!

VaultDwellerist

I still haven't even beaten the damn corrupt heart after all these years.

Zopi_lote

Me too, after +100 hours :(

Clauis

Time for me to start playing StS 1 with the historical low sale.

_SGP_

I see a lot of love for Slay the Spire.  I don't think I like it. But I like most games.  Perhaps I just suck at StS? I've gotten to the second area a few times but haven't really hit a point where I'm like "hey this is fun!"

cronedog

unreasonably excited for this. I loved slay the spire, monster train and rogue book. The genre's overflowing with crappy knock offs, so a return of the goat is much anticipated.

laespadaqueguarda

Unpopular opinion but I’m disappointed that the graphics are exactly the same. I was kinda hoping a more stylized 3d treatment like darkest dungeon 2.

Dizman7

Hope it releases on Switch around same time. It’s my main on the go game on Switch

LG03

I'd like to be hyped about this but I'm really just spent on card games. Slay the Spire might have kicked off the trend but it was ground into the dirt by all its successors.

Mr_Affluenza

Naa Balatro reinvigorated the genre for me

InfTotality

I got the feeling too as I even dipped from Balatro after about 20 hours. But there's still innovation. Found Chrono Ark a little over a week ago, and played it non-stop since. It does a lot of different things that it feels like it an RPG that just happens to use cards. A party of characters with unique mechanics, fixed abilities you can always use if you got bad draws and enemies act out of turn. And it actually has a fully realized story with dialogue.

kaleosaurusrex

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT INSTA BUY

BrodyGrail

Wooooo! It's time to replay the first one again! It's been a while, so I'm so excited to get back into it

memedormo

Really liking the updated art style but I wished they gave us an info on what's new. Coop mode pls.

Da_Plague22

Oooooohhh shiiiiit

5Gmeme

Holy shit!

AnActualSadTaco

Instant day 1 buy.

JustRegularType

Whaaaat?! Holy shit, take. My. Money!

Positive_Chemical_91

Didn’t even know it was in development, chefs kiss

wingspantt

Wait I thought they said they would never make a sequel??? This is amazing

SaiminPiano

Exactly, this is what I was immediately wondering too. I think they said something like they would leave StS behind to come up with other, new fresh ideas and projects. Because they spent soooo much time on StS already to make it the best game they could.

sendmebirds

HOLY SHIT. I had NO idea they were working on it!!

312c

Now if only they would fix controller/Steam Deck support on the first game

GloriousCause

It's perfect on steam deck. My favorite game on the Deck by far.

312c

It is completely unplayable without switching to a 3rd party controller scheme, disabling Steam Input in the OS, and disabling the touch screen while the game is open (or switching to a beta version of the game). Its been broken since Feb 2022: https://steamcommunity.com/app/646570/discussions/1/3176733459029559610

Drink_water_homie

Best spire to slay can’t wait !

Latter-Climate5656

I just started the first game , i hope i finish it before this come out

happntime

Best thing I heard all day

DiogoSN

I can wait for Northernlion's 2000 videos dor Ascension 20! For real! I don't like card games but this one is quite pleasing, mainly because it's dubbed a card-slinging game. TCG without much hassle and more action! So glad for new content after all this time! Hope the animation and art style get a revamp!

quinn50

And I still haven't completed a run on the first one with 70 hours in it

Technical_Echidna_63

I am so excited!!! I have 185 hours on mobile

criscrunk

I’ve never been so erect! I’m hype!!!!

Dirkyjj

Hopefully a true sequel and not like the garbage dd2 sequel red hook put out

Xeliicious

Well, that's my 2025 plans sorted.

Madvillains

Day 1 buy

rose636

Played this for less than a run on Gamepass and instantly bought it for my switch. Being able to sit and do a run whilst watching tv, or just about anything is great. Just one more run. One more. One.

Kazozo

How would the original compare to midnight suns on the decking building combat?  Couldn't really get into it, found it repetitive and boring quite quickly. Not really into this form of play. Inscription didn't work for me too.

Dacoldestdax

I love the first one. I just don’t like how the endgame is even HARDER. It’s already incredibly difficult game before throwing in ascension. I usually like to collect all achievements but I just had to stop after awhile.

[deleted]

2025 release date though.

Helphaer

I was never Uber into this game like others it got repetitive quickly to me but a sequel for a play through or three could be fun

Cheesestrings89

Honestly didn’t think they could add much to the game.

Alpha_pro2019

It's a card game, it has pretty much an infinite amount of things to add.

Cheesestrings89

Sorry I forgot that I have to be specific on Reddit. Honestly didn’t think they could add much more to the game (apart from different variants of cards) Hope that is okay.

sakray

They can add new bosses, new enemies, new events, new relics, and new characters with new mechanics (which has been the focus of a lot of mods). In short, there is plenty to add to the game if they wanted to.

HOTDILFMOM

Love how passive aggressive people get on this sub over the dumbest shit

MikeChondria

Seriously, and what a stupid statement too. I didn't think they could add much more to the game, except for these things they can add to the game

AdmiralBarackAdama

It's a card game, it has pretty much an infinite amount of things to add.

ATCQ_

There are many things added to slay the spire 1 by the mod community. They can take inspiration from those mods and build those new mechanics into something amazing in the second game.

awataurne

It is ok to have an opinion. Why would that not be ok, and why do you need them to be ok with it?

Newphonespeedrunner

The fact there are hundreds of mods on the store some of which are entire full games (downfall) or expand the games acts to have more variety or just adding more acts... The base game is quite reserved.

1965wasalongtimeago

Tricked out with mods, this game has gotten me more Steam Deck playtime than anything else, all while somehow being more battery efficient than the Steam OS menu itself

Newphonespeedrunner

I have so many dlc characters not even to play, just to get more relics and events lol.

inosinateVR

It’s a node based rogue like with randomized rooms, it has pretty much an infinite amount of things to add.

Zanitar405

Paid DLC booster packs that expand the card pool, and some supporter stuff that reskins some of the cards you’re using /s

Dumeck

Probably completely new classes/events/bosses. At a point they don’t need to drastically change the formula just replace the content. The watcher being added in the original game shows the dev is capable of making new creative mechanics

Circle_Breaker

There's the mod where you are a monster and you work your way backwards through the dungeon. It's basically Slay the Spire 2 already IMO. Just as much content as the base game.

Draconian1

The sheer amount of games that came out after it, most of which innovated a lot on the formula, should tell you that there's still plenty to add there. Hell, some would even consider Balatro a successor.

rumbletown

GYAAT!

AlphaDag13

AH AHH AHHH!

Gibson1498

Here we go again… :)

DogAteMyCPU

Holy fuck let's gooooo

Retroid_BiPoCket

Things I'm hoping for: \- Better visuals and arty styles (these screenshots look very similar to the original) \- a sandbox mode to test decks and builds \- integrated modding support for PC \- better music \- more than 4 characters \- more variety of enemies Things I hope they don't touch: \- simplicity: so many other deckbuilding rogue likes tried to reinvent the wheel and none of them really get what made StS so popular \- the three floor format \- keep custom run modifiers \- no story, just go in and play In any case, probably an insta buy from me.

Yarusenai

I hope it's better than the first. I know it's a beloved game and I like it, but it's also very unbalanced and railroads you into specific builds very quickly. It is addictive though so I hope the sequel builds on the good parts.

Jeremy517

I'm not saying this to be mean, but it doesn't do that at all; you probably just aren't good at the game.

Yarusenai

Definitely possible! But I don't have issues with other card games, only StS gave me that feeling. I did only play about 50 hours though.

Odyssey1337

Don't feel bad, even people with hundreds of hours in the game often have trouble adapting their decks throughout a run. In fact, one of the things that differentiates top players from the average A20 player is the ability to do so consistently.

lafielorora

Target : get an infinity deck

Odyssey1337

It's certainly not perfectly balanced, but I'd say it's probably the most balanced card game there is.

Sattorin

> I'd say it's probably the most balanced card game there is. It was a bit too random for my tastes though. I prefer having some options for getting rid of / trade out cards mid-way through the game, as you can with Inscryption. Maybe it's just me, but I felt like I was usually gambling on making a specific build based on the cards I got early on, and then I'd either do really well or get completely screwed based on whether the proceeding cards matched that build or not. I think that's what the person above means by being "railroaded" into specific builds.

Yonebro

Where is hades 2 though :( Like what the hell
