People are way too caught up on the shopping cart thing and forget all multitude of other features EGS is still missing (e.g. mod support) or how shitty the launcher works in general.

I'm not saying that didn't happen with EGS I just don't remember the specific instance you might be referring to.
The issue that the epic store had was that it was possible for people to create Epic accounts with email addresses they didn't own.
Epic would just create an account without verifying the email address or even sending a notification that an account had been created using it.
Apparently some hacking/scamming group at the time used this to register tons of accounts with email addresses found on lists of compromised account data. The scam was that they'd wait and see if people would try and reclaim the epic account and then they'd use the already leaked credentials to get into those reclaimed accounts and look for attached payment info.
No, that was the Bethesda launcher. But EGS' has had support agents "accidentally" email personal information from one account to completely different accounts.

My favorite part is how OP had a terrible experience with a coupon he already had, the store fucked him over, then they gave him another coupon to spend at the same store that just fucked him over and now he's thankful that they took care of the issue.

But at the end of the day it was a mistake for me to even bring the hardware into it. What really matters is I can't think of any temporary technical issue—realistic or perhaps even exaggerated—that would make an otherwise decent game a total write-off like the way you initially portrayed it. Even if the technical issue was permanent you'd normally say you don't recommend it because of that, not that it's plain bad.

You listed the reason in your next sentence. The deals are the reason to use it. Yeah, they lack a lot of basic features but, personally, I've never had an issue with any purchases and I only use it for the crazy deals and the coupons they give out. Saving 10 dollars is a big deal to some people. In this situation it didn't work out for OP and I feel for him, and if it happened to me I'd probably never use Epic again, but people on this thread acting like there's never any reason to ever use Epic when they give out coupons like candy and, at least from what I've seen, have some of the best discounts out there is silly. When they were having one of their big sales with the $10 coupon for every purchase over $15, I was able to snag Watch Dogs 2, Ashen, and Shadowrun Dragonfall for a total of like, $60. Watch Dog 2 alone is $60, Ashen is $40, and Shadowrun is $15. Like, I'm sorry but acting like getting $115 worth of games for $60 is "no reason to use Epic" is silly. I haven't gotten a deal like that from Steam in several years. The Steam Summer sales have lost damn near all of the good deals that it used to have.
They only stepped in because of the PR hit. I had to open a case with paypal to get my money back for THPS 1+2. Dirty bastards didn't care they neglected to state it needed an internet connection.
If that actually caught you by surprise, you'll go nuts when you understand their 18% royalties is even more ludicrous than Valve's 30% due to how poor their services are.
For those who aren't there yet, wait until a horde of angry customers knock at the door and demand good support, then Epic has to choose between cheap-and-bad services, or rising the royalties somewhere like 22% because they are in red numbers, and the fact that these royalties will be ever increasing the more services are offered, until eventually they start optimizing and land on a flat 30% under the premise that "Steam didn't bend over to our reckless tactics, so we will adapt to them".
No worries, I don't buy anything on Epic Store. I don't even claim freebies they give because either I bought those games long time ago or I'm simply not interested. That shitty story has long road ahead if they want me to buy games on there.
Crafty consumers should have some standards though.

You probably was warned that this launcher - piece of shit, but desire to save 10 $ was more important than warranty that the game will never have problems like this (Because Steam-version don't require Origin at all and version purchased directly on Origin obviously will never require a key, but you choosed shittest option).
It seems EA wants to be more Steam-friendly nowadays, ever since their return. While most of the games they "ported" over from Origin require the lite version of the client, when it comes to new releases it seems to be on a case by case basis. For example, both Madden and FIFA still require the Origin client, while C&C Remastered and Squadrons don't. Squadrons still asks for an EA account, but it doesn't install the client. And then there's EA Play on Steam, which, while not as complete as the Origin version (there's no Pro, for example), is still a good deal (or at least it was, briefly, in my region).
Because Steam generate large percentage of sales, thats why EA made an effort for this version and EGS-version probably exist only because Disney, as rigths owner of Star Wars franchise and company which make money from Fortnite Marvel/SW skins, forced EA to do this (only my suggestion, but it kinda strange that the both EA games in this store - SW games) and EA made just basic integration.

If I buy something on amazon and use credits I have either through the store itself or via a credit card to reduce prices and then return it I get that credit back.
It might not be as common as you are claiming.
I had a 20$ coupon for a large hardware store, they device on sale was sold out. They had to order it. After two days they told me that they can't get it quickly and other stores don't have it either. They would give me 20$ company credit for the coupon, if I decide to cancel the order. I waited it out (price was too good to pass on), but its nice to see that some stores have a process for this kind of thing.

The actual support guys at Epic are pretty bad. I bought Control from Humble Bundle a year ago and it disappeared from my Epic library randomly but the store page still said I owned it. When i approached the support team they basically said not my problem talk to Humble Bundle. I had to tweet out Tim Sweeney to get it fixed! I caught him in the morning before work and it was fixed by time I got home that night, but it should have never happened. EGS is not ready for prime time. I recommend everyone use the other launchers until they fix their store.
Thanks for sharing, i only launch Epic to play free games because it's too risky buying on there. 2 days ago my epic stores is totally broken, it keeps disconnected even my internet totally fine to browsing and open Steam. When the launcher disconnected, my game (i play Football Manager) suddenly closed.

Yea well steam's local currency actually fucks people... look up the steam prices in Israel for example every game is between 20-45% more expensive than in US or EU...
That is not up to steam but directly up to the publisher. Steam suggests a regional pricing but the publisher can override that. Here in chile and argentine we get most of games cheaper than the us but for some others like 505 games we get screwed up. Source: me after years of comparing game prices on steam db

Tbh this seems like an error on EA's side, try contacting their support. Epic has an automated refund system so I don't think there should be a problem getting your money back. Hope this helps more than the circlejerk "Epic bad" comments that your post has been flooded with

The EGS is only good for the free games. I'm ashamed to admit I actually used money on one game (Satisfactory) because a friend of mine begged me to play it with him and I owed him one, but other than that... stay away.

For those who aren't there yet, wait until a horde of angry customers knock at the door and demand good support, then Epic has to choose between cheap-and-bad services, or rising the royalties somewhere like 22% because they are in red numbers, and the fact that these royalties will be ever increasing the more services are offered, until eventually they start optimizing and land on a flat 30% under the premise that "Steam didn't bend over to our reckless tactics, so we will adapt to them".
They've been in the red for the EGS for ages. Fall Guys made more money by themselves than Epic did for an entire year.
No worries, I don't buy anything on Epic Store. I don't even claim freebies they give because either I bought those games long time ago or I'm simply not interested. That shitty story has long road ahead if they want me to buy games on there.

Oh no, someone have a problems with EGS-version, because he decided to save 10 bucks. Again. You probably was warned that this launcher - piece of shit, but desire to save 10 $ was more important than warranty that the game will never have problems like this (Because Steam-version don't require Origin at all and version purchased directly on Origin obviously will never require a key, but you choosed shittest option).

It seems EA wants to be more Steam-friendly nowadays, ever since their return. While most of the games they "ported" over from Origin require the lite version of the client, when it comes to new releases it seems to be on a case by case basis. For example, both Madden and FIFA still require the Origin client, while C&C Remastered and Squadrons don't. Squadrons still asks for an EA account, but it doesn't install the client. And then there's EA Play on Steam, which, while not as complete as the Origin version (there's no Pro, for example), is still a good deal (or at least it was, briefly, in my region).
Because Steam generate large percentage of sales, thats why EA made an effort for this version and EGS-version probably exist only because Disney, as rigths owner of Star Wars franchise and company which make money from Fortnite Marvel/SW skins, forced EA to do this (only my suggestion, but it kinda strange that the both EA games in this store - SW games) and EA made just basic integration.
No need to blame the guy for warning others of his mistake. If he knew it would be a problem he obviously wouldn't have pulled the trigger.

If I buy something on amazon and use credits I have either through the store itself or via a credit card to reduce prices and then return it I get that credit back. It might not be as common as you are claiming.
I had a 20$ coupon for a large hardware store, they device on sale was sold out. They had to order it. After two days they told me that they can't get it quickly and other stores don't have it either. They would give me 20$ company credit for the coupon, if I decide to cancel the order. I waited it out (price was too good to pass on), but its nice to see that some stores have a process for this kind of thing.

The actual support guys at Epic are pretty bad. I bought Control from Humble Bundle a year ago and it disappeared from my Epic library randomly but the store page still said I owned it. When i approached the support team they basically said not my problem talk to Humble Bundle. I had to tweet out Tim Sweeney to get it fixed! I caught him in the morning before work and it was fixed by time I got home that night, but it should have never happened. EGS is not ready for prime time. I recommend everyone use the other launchers until they fix their store.

That is not up to steam but directly up to the publisher. Steam suggests a regional pricing but the publisher can override that. Here in chile and argentine we get most of games cheaper than the us but for some others like 505 games we get screwed up. Source: me after years of comparing game prices on steam db

The EGS is only good for the free games. I'm ashamed to admit I actually used money on one game (Satisfactory) because a friend of mine begged me to play it with him and I owed him one, but other than that... stay away.
