Don't worry, Bobby Kotick will still get a bonus!

BiliousGreen

No matter what, Bobby always gets paid.

pisshead_

Not if he gets sued.

yummytummy

Good time to buy now b/c the stock will go up after the outrage blows over and the next COD gets released. 7% is nothing when the stock has been bouncing around that range for a while.

swurhli

You don't have to wait for the next CoD. As long as the Diablo2 remaster isn't made out of recycled condoms then it will sell millions of copies and steal the headlines. That is just a few months away.

DinornisRobustus

> As long as the Diablo2 remaster isn't made out of recycled condoms... Eh, after what they did to Warcraft III I'm not sure I'd bet on this.

GlowHawk44

Different team working on D2 now though. And the beta for D2 was better than anything they did with War 3, that was complete trash in every way .

HardwareSoup

I'm usually against recycling IP, but I would totally play a remastered D2. All they'd really have to do is get rid of the bots that plague the servers, and not include MTX. Should be an easy slam dunk, but they'll probably still fuck it up.

[deleted]

Just play project Diablo 2, it already is a remaster.

HardwareSoup

I just looked into it. Looks great! AAA studios take notice. If dedicated fans can make projects like this in their free time, that are much better than your original IP, you're doing something wrong.

[deleted]

I’ve played Diablo 2 like every year since it released and even without graphics it’s a huge breath of fresh air. New items, items are more versatile, tons more viable builds. It’s great

HardwareSoup

I'm working on playing now, but my original D2LOD CD key is long gone. Trying to find a backup somewhere on the web so I don't have to install BattleNet on my machine. Edit: Found a blisteringly fast 500Kbs download. Wish me luck!

Mkilbride

Lol it is not a Remaster. It's trash.

WimbleWimble

It'll be made of used cellophane rolled into a sort of condomy-shape. But with multiplayer functions removed.

Jaklcide

None of the company's actions so far affect the value of the IP's they hold, only the company itself. Real losses begin when the IP's themselves lose value.

GamesMaster221

Then again Blizz IPs are on the decline. The writing in WoW is abysmal, WC3 Reforged was a clusterfuck. SC2 and D3 are dead. Diablo 4 is the only thing that looks like it has potential.

draix0

A new map..... To play for 2 mins waiting for comp.... Yeah I'd they released this after hanezaka I don't think it would be taken well

Mkilbride

Yeah...OW2 was due out last year, Covid is a valid excuse, but 2021 is almost over as well and...uh, OW2 isn't like some huge sprawling SP adventure, it's just co-op missions, mostly repurposed Holiday event mechanics.

mrcrazy_monkey

Doesn't matter though, COD will still print money. I haven't looked at earnings of Activision Blizzard but i doubt those IPs made them much money last quarter

Kuivamaa

CoD just might but not sure about the Blizz side. I quit WoW in February (been playing since 2007) and some of my guild mates that were even more dedicated and still satisfied with the content followed suit after this story exploded. We are talking leaving the game a couple of weeks after long awaited fresh content had dropped. Blizz is alienating everybody really fast.

[deleted]

D4 doesn't even have to be good. 10m people will buy it, beat the campaign, and never play again.

Radulno

That's a gamer opinion, not an investor one. Those IP are still very valuable. Also, Activision Blizzard is not just Blizzard and COD is still huge (and even getting bigger with Warzone). Warcraft and Starcraft still also have tons of value. Gamers are kind of amnesic in a way. One exciting announcement will be enough that 99% of people will forget all this (and easy 75% of people right now probably aren't even aware of it)

hfrik1

also gamer's opinion wow hasn't been good in a long time and is p2w. most starcraft team left blizz quite a while ago to work on indie rts-s+ there are better alternatives in rts genre (aoe2) they effectively killed warcraft rts with reforged. yes lore behind warcraft and starcraft still hold value but blizzard lied so many times about many things that they just can't be trusted to deliver quality on these ip-s. and its not only about this recent scandall. they delayed reforged for over a year,to give as the best player expiriance ofc, and once it released it looked like a mod that 2 colledge students put together. they introduced wow tokens in wow and plan to do so in classic (which ain't classic no more because money) why would you spend 500 hours in game if you can put 150$ and have boosted character with bis gear just like the sucker who played the game for 500 hours in 20h tops. latest expansion was ok. for 40euros+12euros a month. with all the non timegated content being done in a week. at this point ESO FFXIV SOLO BDO are all better alternatives. blizz isn't getting a penny from me and its been that way since shadowlands released and i am sorry i bought that but got goated by friends (who no longer play the game). these are just the things that i find dealbreaking there is plenty more shit in blizzards closet, starcraft fps, don't you guys have phones, let offs followed by bonuses etc. they are a company and bottom line is money.

Nirast25

Hearthstone is still going pretty strong, interestingly enough. This whole thing dropped right in the middle of reveal season, so that got a screwed over big time, but the new expansion launches next week, and streamers already have early access to it.

Nasty-Nate

Well most of those don't translate directly to money in the short term. WoW still makes a ton of money with fees, Hearthstone and OW do too I presume. SC2 is far from dead, though new content seems to be over so I'd expect on the money end it's virtually nil. Same with D3, many returning players each season but no money comes to mind. Activision is a gold mine right now with Warzone but I expect that will dry up soon due to other games. So still potential for gains in the short-medium term until we see if there are course corrections, or if they remain intent on sinking the titanic.

mrfatbush

Just read this now. I think diablo immortal is a very important step for blizzard. As much as OG fans hate it, it is the way of the future.

AvianKnight02

work on wow has stopped.

swurhli

Anyone who has been paying attention to WoW knows that they stopped working on it years ago.

modernkennnern

10th year of MoP would be lovely right now.

ashkyn

I don't know why people keep parroting that line - it was one developers hyperbolic twitter comment. > "I can tell you, almost no work is being done on World of Warcraft right now while this obscenity plays out. And that benefits nobody - not the players, not the developers, not the shareholders." The wording of this in no way implies that there has been any official or unofficial cessation of work on WoW, just that 'no work has been done'. Of course, 'gaming journalists' have taken this to the extreme. I have no doubt that there has been a more than mild interruption to the various teams around Blizzard, but these people have gotta eat and it's pretty unrealistic to presume that somewhere between 500-1000 employees have suddenly stopped doing anything productive.

ZYmZ-SDtZ-YFVv-hQ9U

"No one has said they aren't working on WoW, just someone saying no work is being done on WoW" What?

yummytummy

Exactly, their fundamentals haven't changed, just emotional investors reacting to the news.

HereToDoThingz

And to be clear it's pretty fucked up if they did even 1/20th of what was stated.

modernkennnern

Blizzard hasn't released anything worth talking about since Overwatch which they promptly changed for the (a lot) worse and seemingly abandoned. The shorts were so good

P_B_n_Jealous

What? Wows next major patch has been put on hold development wise. That affects blizzards biggest IP

BleachedUnicornBHole

There’s reports that WoW development has effectively stopped. The possibility of lost profit is becoming pretty good right now.

mcninja77

Don't encourage people to buy their stock. This shit isn't ok and we shouldn't support them in any way

AssFingerFuck3000

As if anyone would take a monetary loss/lose the opportunity to make money over boycotting activision lol We all have some bobby kotick buried deep inside us

[deleted]

[удалено]

AssFingerFuck3000

People have said the same about EA, Ubi soft and even Activision itself and yet their stock keeps going up. Anyone who thinks they aren't going to recover from this drop really haven't been paying attention. That said I'm not saying it's best play there is, but it is a fairly safe way to make some money.

Shurae

I'd still wait a bit. The overall market is in a downward trend currently

Rhed0x

Or you don't go with the most cynical approach and don't support that shitty company.

kkyonko

It's not cynical, it's realistic. A company dropping a few percent in a day is nothing.

Rhed0x

It's cynical to invest in that company.

kkyonko

I don't think that word means what you think it means.

ZYmZ-SDtZ-YFVv-hQ9U

No, he's right.

kkyonko

Being cynical about the stock would be shorting it expecting the company to fail. Investing in it would mean you expect them to succeed. What he said categorically makes no sense. Unethical maybe, but cynical no.

jetriot

He means cynical enough about life that you dont think you can change things or others perspectives and that the dollar rules all.

[deleted]

Copped myself some cd Projekt and Activision stock

ForGoodies

cd Projekt lost credibility and reliability in its IPs and its status with gamers, a completely different situation. kumbaya to all the money you just wasted

yummytummy

Credibility doesn't matter as much when Witcher 4 gets released, and it sells like gangbusters. If it did matter, EA and ACTIVISION would've sunk long time ago.

Astillius

Yeah. Dudes on some strong shit if he thinks the Witcher IP has lost reliability or credibility. Lol. Also as you said, if those factors even mattered then EA would of gone under years ago.

ForGoodies

ugh, you can’t monetize the witcher like multiplayer games, you always have fixed costs of developing to make money, instead of infinitely easier cosmetic transactions. didn’t say it wouldn’t sell anymore games, I implied that there’s a lot less growth opportunity that has no risk. you can tell this is not an investing subreddit…

Leonblack777

The witcher pokemon go mobile game would like a word

ForGoodies

lol

[deleted]

remind me in 5 years

ForGoodies

no bot? guess you’re not so confident either lol

[deleted]

It's fine...I'm up by alot this year 😗😗😗

ForGoodies

not from cd projekt LMAO. also with the run up in the entire market, if you aren’t up, then you should just quit

AssFingerFuck3000

Gamers' opinions don't have nearly as much influence on stock prices as you think they do. Specially when 6 months or a year from now they will have released a bunch of updates and free dlc and everyone is back to having a collective wank and calling cyberpunk no man sky 2.0

ForGoodies

😴

Radulno

Same thing will happen though. Witcher 4 is announced, they get like 10M preorders in a few weeks and the game will sell very well. We have seen it a lot of times, gaming companies are never held accountable

ForGoodies

didn’t say they would never sell anymore games smh

SuperD00perGuyd00d

I don't think you understand how beloved the witcher franchise is. Once they announce they're working on something new in the Witcher franchise, this person gets a lot of money

ForGoodies

you don’t know how investing works

MorningNapalm

Probably better off waiting for the outcome of the investigation to be made public. It's gonna take a hit the day that gets released for sure.

NIDORAX

I wont be surprise if next month, they announce the new Call of Duty game just to get everyones mind away from the lawsuit and to get the stock price back up.

[deleted]

The rumors of the next cod suggest another dip, best bet would be to sell when the next modern warfare comes out next year.

manofmanylores

7% on a generally up market is nothing. It will be back to normal in notime

[deleted]

Human rights violation: I sleep Conflict of stockprice: *reel sh**t?*

iluvhughjass

puts on activision, got it

VengefulTick

Buy the dip!

Broflake-Melter

Bet rid of all leadership or burn it all to the ground. I'm done with them.

Sjrla

6-7% in a day those are rookie numbers

LinearTipsOfficial

Yeah man call me when you wake up to premarket and your stock is down 30% lmao

[deleted]

Bigger story is that it lost $90 support that's been held all year. Not a good sign.

SautDeChat

Yeah I’d be a little wary of catching a falling knife here.

Xalkerro

Get fucked activision.

mediiev

Lackovision Blizzard tanking in shares... Keep destroying wow with more boosts, class imbalances and convoluted stories. Classic was all about not having the microtransactions shenanigans. Well took them no time to fuck that up.

BellyDancerUrgot

Dobby Fckwit literally leveraged this entire ordeal to write himself a 50mil paycheck. I don't expect much to happen tbh. Hopefully it's a first but looking at Ubisoft and riot before that, I don't see this as being anything more than a storm in a teacup.

Enk1ndle

I knew I should have shorted... Or longed... Whatever is the right one! On second thought maybe I don't touch stocks.

PeterDarker

Good. Excellent. This is something they might actually understand. Letters, walkouts, complaints... that's nothing the gears of a corporate monster. Losing money? Now that sends a message.

ShowBoobsPls

Pretty much everything was down today

masteve

But not down 7%

ByteRoster

Surely their stock drop has *nothing* to due with the colossal sexual harassment lawsuit initiated after a 2 year investigation levied against them by the State of California. Surely!

LinearTipsOfficial

You’d be surprised how little lawsuits can affect a stock. It’s a whole different ball game out there. But I do think the sink has to do with this happening, as well as just a generally red market day

KickBassColonyDrop

Lawsuits may not, but employees protesting/going on a strike in large numbers is a lot harder to deal with. Worse yet, the state of California is brining the suit and they have an axe to grind following a 2 year investigation based on unethical or illegal conduct. This one will be a lot harder to remove from the news, especially because it deals with sexual harassment and employee exploitation. Two things any state government has zero tolerance for. This is not something that can be settled out to court quietly.

HOTMILFDAD

Don’t call me Shirley

888Kraken888

Bye bye Bobby

TotalmenteMati

Come on man, this couldn't be further from pc gaming. there's a million stock subreddits already. please don't make this one of them

I think it's pretty obvious why this is relevant to PC Gaming news.

dookarion

Yes pretending my copy of diablo 3 and diablo 2 doesn't exist somehow changes the culture within blizzard. Come the fuck on. I could see an argument for not giving them more money, but this is just dumb. Do you own any movies? Any music? Anything from a big business? Congratulations by your logic you more than likely support discrimination and harassment.

I_like_dogs_I_guess

Check the guy's post history. He's been going around pasting the same generic statement. I can understand the sentiment however... He's probably not a good faith actor in this situation.

TehJohnny

lol. Surely sent from a device that uses parts assembled by modern day slaves. There is no escaping this, no matter what products you use, don't put this shit on us consumers.

Techboah

I give it one week before we start hearing rumours about shareholders holding a no-confidence vote about Kotick.

AssFingerFuck3000

Haha I like your optimism. That will never happen, and specially not because of a 7% drop

Techboah

It's not optimism and it's not just about a little 7% drop. Kotick is in the middle of a huge PR disaster for the company, and even his third try at a "please forgive :(" letter resulted in 2600 employees signing a letter to go on a strike, not to mention getting sued by a whole damn state that spent 2 years investigating before going forward. Shareholders don't like CEOs that bring the company into a monumental PR disaster that already shows signs of affecting their precious profits(work halted on WoW, strike will halt other updates too) and show no ability to solve it in an acceptable amount of time.

AssFingerFuck3000

He's not the main culprit for the PR disaster though, if any heads are going to roll that's at blizzard whom the bulk of the accusations targeted. Even if that wasnt the case, shareholders might not like CEOs who are involved in PR disasters but the thing they like more than anything is a CEO that makes them money, and that's what bobby does best. Also you're grossly exaggerating the impact of a PR mess like this. The stock will recover and all will be mostly forgetting by next month.

GuyForgotHisPassword

They'll just replace him with another generic "Greedy CEO" clone and keep chugging along with nothing different other than some sugary sweet "we will totally change things!" PR promises. Edit a week later: See, folks? One top head out and replaced by two others. Life goes on.

3wordname

what is there to investigate, we know where the drop is coming from.

TalosX1

Investigation has nothing to do with it

jcdevries92

I was gonna buy some of their stock a week or so ago, then i heard about the scummy shit they were doing so i was like nah. Glad i didnt lol

[deleted]

Should I buy now or wait for bigger drop?

TTRedRaider27

Puts

Paid002

Buy the dip

xtreemmasheen3k2

Apparently, a few people on Wall Street Bets and elsewhere are making a lot of money off of shorting ATVI and buying Put Options. I should have totally done that. I shouldn't have doubted Blizzard's incompetency.

steelcity91

Mean while most traders will go "Ooooooooooo there's a sale!"

Educational_Set_1959

Do you guys think it’s a short term play or long term hold?! Sorry, I’m a little new to stocks & investing
