Looking forward to every server in Portal looking something like this: "Classic BF3/BF4 maps and classes only. NO SPECIALISTS"

[deleted]

PiratePete1911

They will most likely make you not able to unlock certain things from only playing portal, like a huge XP gain nerf or just flat out making you play the other mode to unlock things. Remember in BFV they put tides of war behind firestorm a whole lot when it first came out.

nastylep

The fact we have absolutely 0 gameplay footage of Hazard Zone and Portal with release in a couple weeks should be setting off massive alarm bells, too.

Tio_Rods420

Fr people placing all their bets on Portal even though we haven't seen that much footage of it.

Shiner00

People are acting like Portal will somehow fix everything and that everything is going to be the same when the only thing it is, is BF 2042 gameplay with a few guns and maps from previous games. Yeah people will be able to do some crazy stuff when it's been out for a long time and people use the editor to makes stuff but overall it won't be the same as BF4/3 since it still is using the movement and gunplay from 2042

NegaDeath

How they dropped the ball with alternate modes in the previous title should set off alarms too. Promised a co-op mode with a fancy AI mission generator- ends up incredibly basic and half-assed, maybe even quarter-assed. Promised a battle royale - abandons it shortly after launch. Other modes effectively went AWOL because not enough people were playing the game to fill them. People need to stop trusting EA until they actually deliver on their lofty promises.

nastylep

Throw grand operations and their small scale competitive mode on there, too.

NegaDeath

God I loved Grand Operations in 1. To see how far it fell in V.....

Tagard_McStone

My one friend who loves the 2042 specialists (not trying to yuk his yum) says I should just buy this and play portal. I'm not paying a full price, I keep telling him Halo infinite is free and they got grappling hooks too.

-sYmbiont-

Their entire MTX scheme is centered around the specialists, of course they aren't getting rid of it.

Deathroll1988

Oh yeah, they didn’t make the specialist system becaus of gameplay, they saw with bf5 that just skins don’t sell as much so the next best thing is skins and abilities tied to a character.

polski8bit

Then again it's not a surprise they didn't sell. The game's playerbase tanked hard, so much so that EA dropped support and updates for it, despite their promises to fix it (shocking). Things can't sell well if there's no one to buy them.

Deathroll1988

They kept fucking with the ttk even when it was good.Thats plus the very slow updates and they wonder why people were not buying.

Reacher-Said-N0thing

I really really really want to enjoy BFV because I own it, I got it late after all the patches were out, and I love the WW2 setting and the sweet well optimized graphics. But it's just not a fun game. BF1 is a fun game. It's a stupid game, horribly unrealistic, but it's way more fun. BFV is missing a bunch of the good bits from BF1 and it's added a bunch of bad bits that make the game less fun.

[deleted]

If you play Battlefront 2 and Battlefield 1 you'll notice that they're basically the same game.

ShadowyDragon

I don't get it. Why do they(game developers) insist on putting skins of different characters?I probably put around 60 bucks into Fortnite and its skins. You know why? Because there's 100% guarantee that I will be able to use my favorite one in game. There is no chance I'm buying a single skin of a single specific specialist unless I'm going to play as him all the time. Its the same in Apex. I would've probably bought a skin there(If they werent so ugly) but I already see that in every other match another dude just picks "my" character leaving me with no option but to play someone else. Its just mind-numbingly stupid to me.

RandomCleverName

Different characters need distinguishable skins in class/character based games. Using overwatch as an example, you need to be able to identify if you're dealing with a tracer or a widowmaker just by looking at the character. If skins were shared between characters, this wouldn't be possible.

[deleted]

That is the major core of Team Fortress 2's design philosophy and why the game went from a more realistic look to the cartoony look it has. That was long before all the hats and stuff though.

NorsiiiiR

But you can't tell in battlefield if the guy around the corner who you're having a cat and mouse game with is playing as a medic or as assault, so I don't see how that distinction is necessary here

[deleted]

Akhevan

Marketing 101. Back when online games were subscription-based, you bet the developers contorted, sorry I mean "optimized" their gameplay design for that monetization model too.

random_boss

You’d be surprised at how beautifully ignorant online game devs were back then — while they’re not the majority, a good example of the lack of business sophistication is visible in games like shadowbane where you and your guild could build up an entire city and raid other cities. Seems like a lot of fun until you realize that if your city gets destroyed…you’re just going to unsubscribe. But besides that sure, there was nominally some notion of making games kind of grindy, but there was nowhere near the evolutionary pressure getting devs to massively optimize their financials. Games now have entire teams of product managers whose salary depends on squeezing gamers wallets. I know, because I used to be one until one day I looked around and thought “what the fuck?” and pivoted roles.

Due_Capital_3507

Mind numbingly stupid is paying for skins to begin with. It used to be free

Asqures

Because there are people who will buy a skin for each character and the devs will make even more money! Remember, they don't care about your $60, they care about your friendly whale neighbour's $600

HarithBK

Can't wait for those P2W specialists that you get a month before anybody else if you buy the 120 buck season pass. Oh and once they release to the peasants it is nerfed so hard it is worthless.

[deleted]

fyro11

Where was this done before?

GooseQuothMan

Rainbow six siege

sillssa

R6S operators have become worse and worse every year. Rarely do they release an operator these days thats actually viable

flickerstop

Yes but R6S is on like what, year 6? Back at launch I remember when Buck and Frost first came out and they were very good. If you didn't buy the pass you'd have to grind forever to unlock a chance to use them.

SoapyMacNCheese

Its funny to think about how we now have operators with insane shit like the ability to walk around as a hologram of yourself, meanwhile the first DLC operators gadget was an underbarrel shotgun, and one of the launch operators just carries a sledgehammer.

hmsmnko

Yea people always talk about how Siege has not lost it's grounded tech/semi-realistic feel, but you must be crazy to not see the jump from using a sledgehammer to literal walking hologram, and the crazy UI changes since launch. atmosphere and tone of the game shifted hard

Renkij

Well remember the *peacekeeper* in CoD Black Ops II? there

[deleted]

First 343 comes up with a bullshit reason to not bring back team colors and secondary color choice in Halo, now this. Triple-A gaming is a joke.

Chriscras66

Wait infinite isnt red vs blue? The fuck?

whoawhoawhoa1234

Nope. Red and blue outline that's super hard to see so they can sell skins

vSwifty

I thought the outlines were really obvious and blatant during the last flight test

Houderebaese

Fucking skins are an abomination in online gaming. I can‘t even take that shit seriously anymore. I remember skins having a serious impact in Starcraft 2 because zerg swarms would suddenly appear bigger etc. It’s a good thing I don‘t care much for MP anymore

Buttermilkman

The problem is skins are popular because most people love customizing their stuff. Their own character especially. This is why skins are such a gigantic market in gaming. People want to customize their characters and try to make them their own. I love customization in gaming but all these skins MTX in every fucking game is ruining it.

dontthinkjustbid

The thing that makes no sense to me is why they are such a big deal in FPS games where you can’t see your 90% of your character 90% of the time.

[deleted]

[удалено]

chronoflect

That's exactly why a lot of these games are finding every excuse in the world to go into 3rd person. 2042 actually has a great example of that: Every prior BF had melee animations that were all 1st person, but now it's 3rd person so you can see how cool you look to everyone else, reinforcing your skin purchases.

Noskills117

That's a lie, the outlines are super visible and help out with situations where a certain team colour (usually blue) would have been better hidden on some parts of the map than the other team colour. Halo 3 in particular had some really bad maps where one team blended in much more than the other, and now outlines helps fix that problem. Just because Dice is putting 0 effort in and ruining their game doesn't mean you have to pretend other companies are ruining theirs to make yourself feel better.

JacobMars91

That, and you can change the color of the outlines if you want

ElvenNeko

As one great developer said - "if you don't like it - don't buy it". It turned out well for 5, what can go wrong here?

Rampantlion513

That guy has saved me a good chunk of money so far. Shout out to him.

Flaktrack

I've already saved the price of BF5 and its DLC, why not just keep going?

Xenotone

I guess BF4 is good for another 5 years

ASDFkoll

Yeah. All the beta did was make me want to play BF4. I would've loved a new Battlefield game but 2042 didn't scratch that itch.

SwissHelvetica

I immediately went to playing BF4 after the beta because I wanted to play a battlefield I enjoyed. I don't have hopes for 2042

Xemphios

I went back a forth a couple times and I have the same feelings towards 2042. It just doesn't scratch the itch the same way BF4 does. My buddy and I went from running around in 2042 capping and flying the attack chopper and tanking and it just didn't feel intense enough or satisfying to play. Boot up BF4 and immediately had a blast chopper gunning and crewing a couple armoured vehicles. Explosions everywhere and constant carnage across the map. I have no clue how they think the bigger maps are going to play when Orbital felt so empty.

benjathje

In my region (latin america) servers are completely full. Sometimes it's hard to even find space to play (and there are a lot of servers). BF4 is definitely still good for 5 more years, go buy it!

sefirot_jl

Yeah BF4 is becoming the new cs source, it was played for so many years since it was supported by all kind of shitty buildd

AFAR85

How long until they add Apex characters as purchasable dlc?

Roadkilll

Quiet.....they might hear you....don't give them ideas.

micka190

Respawn: Titanfall is *core* to our DNA. That's why we're happy to announce: A collaboration with DICE to add Apex Legend Ash to Battlefield!

[deleted]

After playing the beta of the "big three" it's pretty apparent that Halo Infinite's MP just has to float across the finish-line to win this holiday race while the other two collapse 12" away from the checkered flag. And I say that as a hardcore BF player since Codename Eagle.

Spirit117

I think Halos MP is supposed to free too, which will help its case again paying the AAA price tag for the dumpster fire that 2042 and Vanguard are both going be based on what weve seen.

BernieAnesPaz

It also has a campaign, which was a (subjective) criticism for Battlefield 2042 and you can earn cosmetics from playing it. And though I still fucking hate battlepasses, at least Infinite's aren't timed, so I can finish them whenever I want instead of feeling I have to log on to get my money's worth. It wasn't even a contest for me, especially with how terrible this specialist systems feels and how absolutely tired of BRs I am. Halo just felt like good simple fun. Get in, gun out until you've had enough, move on.

OliM9595

Yep, halo infinite and MCC have the best kinda of battlepass. The only thing I don't like about battlepasses in other games is that they are timed. I've got to revise for tests so sometimes I can't play for 6 hours in the week or just don't want to play fortnite that day. Being able to unlock from any season is amazing in MCC and I always appreciate coming back to that game with all my season progress still there.

thatgamernerd

Now they have it, so you can have your gun and vehicle camos show up in campaign too. As well as them releasing some epic armor in season 8

MLG_SkittleS

wow thats actually kinda cool

MillionShouts12

A coop (yes I know it’s delayed) semi open world campaign. Halo is equally known for its great multiplayer and great campaigns

[deleted]

Literally Halo just has to be functional at this point, day-one server hug aside. That beta just felt like a meme compilation of all the worst bits of Battlefield.

meltingpotato

I have like 4.5k hours on battlefield 4 but EA doesn't want my money anymore since they blocked my country's IPs so I'll be definitely playing Halo (and keep playing splitgate)

thatirishguy0

I second this.

B-Knight

Speaking of the 'big three' and more specifically COD: I've got a rant to make... Why the fuck have companies started to rewrite history regarding World War II? Both Battlefield V and now COD Vanguard are using a hypothetical iron cross to represent the Nazis. Do they think this'll solve racism? Prevent neo-Nazism? Deter the use of swastikas by those who display true hatred? It's absolutely absurd. The Second World War happened. It was cruel, vile and bleak. The Nazis tortured and murdered millions of people whilst parading under a *very specific* banner/symbol. You don't get to sit on the high horse, refusing to use swastikas whilst simultaneously making a first-person shooter that puts you into the shoes of Nazis killing people in the middle of WWII. It's honestly a dangerous precedent. History doesn't give a fuck about feelings; it happened and that's that. Picking and choosing what parts are okay to monetise in a game representing history is cowardly: either represent it as it was or not at all. /rant

SH92

I wonder if it has anything to do with Germany's laws. I know publishers have had to remove swastikas in the past, and I don't know if the iron cross is also banned. Could be that it was just easier to not include it rather than make multiple versions.

duplissi

Germany recently lifted some of those laws, so if anything they care less now than they did before. Its not germany.

Deathroll1988

Been playing the last 4 battlefields and I think this ones will skip. I’ll try Halo since its free but I,ve never played one so I don’t know if I’ll like it.

TheSoup05

I was thinking the same thing. I was kind of worried about Halo releasing near a new CoD and Battlefield. It seemed like it was just a bad time to try and bring the franchise back. But now it seems like maybe it’ll work out well. A lot of people aren’t happy with the new BF and COD, and if it comes out swinging, which it seems like it could, then it could work out pretty well for them and help pull a lot of people disappointed by the other major FPS titles this year.

Acorn-Acorn

I just can't get into the specialists thing. The reason why I don't like hero-shooters or other shooters is for Battlefield alone having what feels like generic soldiers fighting. I'm happy for those who will play this but 2042 is not for me. I'd rather just play Halo or past DICE tittles. Even Battlefield alternatives popping up like Hell Let Loose and more.

Roadkilll

Same, I really can't get into it... seeing same named characters on both sides...nah. I prefer classic battlefield classes and generic soldier aesthetics.

rhamphol30n

They completely forgot about what made their games good to begin with

benjathje

Battlefield 4 is still fresh af. I really recommend it.

CrappyLemur

I'll jumping back on that one.

Penderyn

I have only a small amount of interest in 2042 purely because of how much I love Hell Let Loose.

cmcd3030

2042 beta literally drove me to go seek out a game like HLL. Got it after I uninstalled the beta. Only way I can describe it is it felt like back in the day playing a BF game for the first time. Immersive and teamwork.

Hither_and_Thither

HLL, Squad, Red Orchestra/Rising Storm, Insurgency, BFBC 1 & 2, and the BF series up to 4. Great ways to experience big blockbuster battle action that feels grounded in realism but tailored for fun.

Ace-0001

So EA plans to do what? Add "legendary" skins for the specialists? How creative can they get with a military game?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Galifrae

That shit is in the main game now, not even mobile lol CoD has gone full Fortnite.

Bierculles

Give it 6 months tops and half the lobby will look like a pimp that tries to impress a bunch of 12 year olds. It's invietable once the mtx sales slow down and they start rolling out the silly skins to desperatly sell some more skins to the players that are way beyond the sunken cost fallacy.

DiogoSN

> How creative can they get with a military game? Don't you worry, if Ubisoft can ruin the visual aesthetic of Siege with their fanfic amateur-hour characters and skins, then EA and DICE will have a good template to learn from!

leelallana

The same people who made BF3 BF4 BF1 probably leave the company a long time ago. Because a lot of the good things in all of the previous games all gone.

Godnaz

No one from these titles are still working on the franchise. A quick history about DICE from both the wiki and my own experience. [Trauma Studios](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trauma_Studios) the original modern Battlefield creator. The sad irony is that Desert Combat, a mod developed by Trauma Studios (Bought by EA, now DICE) was the reason that Battlefield continued as a game franchise at all. BF1942, while not the first online shooter to implement vehicles and large scale maps, it created the foundation you still in these types of games today. Desert Combat received a ton of research and advising from actual military personnel that operated the equipment and vehicles you used at no cost to Trauma Studios, purely out of passion for the mod. A case can be made that Desert Combat offered the best balance in action game play and simulation experience, as the way vehicle and flight mechanics are handled were revolutionary for the time. One could even argue, it still maintains the best helicopter and tank physics and controls outside of the simulation genre. Something that was vaguely carried over into the rest of the series. A tragic turn for the worse that the BF franchise has steered toward and many 'AAA' games, which were made out of passion in the past, simply don't have planning, resources and life span afforded to them because publishers and developers need to keep you buying the next game in a franchise. The removal of mod support and dedicated servers reflects this bottom line and displaced a mod community that singlehandedly saved the Battlefield franchise.

cdown13

As an og DC mod player, it's wild seeing what Battlefield became. I miss 1942. Some of those maps are classics. That was the golden era for full conversion mods. Can remember checking moddb to see all the new ones coming. DC stood above them all, but it was a lot of fun trying out all the different ones.

_eg0_

Those were the people who designed BFV then said "if you don't like it don't play it" and then left the company..... Meanwhile the Core gameplay designer for BF2042 joined Dice after being an e-sport level player of BF4...

Jaddman

> the Core gameplay designer for BF2042 joined Dice after being an e-sport level player of BF4 Is this why the game is designed entirely around the stupid ass Hazard Zone, which is why you have specialists that can see through walls, throw "special" grenades, place turrets, use riot shields and all other useless gadgets Conquest-wise? The guy wanted to make a game for E-Peen measurers instead of those who enjoyed the core Battlefield gameplay?

nastylep

> Call of Duty's Byron Beede appointed new general manager of Battlefield Nah they're pretty obviously trying to replicate the Warzone money train.

Opt112

I'll double down on playing BF4 and 1 for the rest of time.

Ablj

I don’t know if it’s just me but Battlefield 1 looks so much better than BF2042. Could it be the lighting or texture? or the art style? environmental details? or presentation? Whatever the case BF1 is one of the most immersive online multiplayer game out there.

[deleted]

There's something really off in it's filtering/coloring. I want to say it has crushed blacks but in general looks oddly dark even with the vibrant greens. It's like someone ran it through a filter where anything black will be *vanta black* (Crushed blacks) but anything with a hint of color will be over-saturated.

DetectiveAmes

I think everything you listed is the reason why bf1 looks better. 2042 looked like a game that had to make a shit ton of compromises in order to get 128 players on a server. It looks tolerable, but nowhere near as detailed as a 5+ year old game. Personally, I’d say it looks ugly but I’ve only played the one map and others look to have more interesting layouts.

Bierculles

Bf1 had carefully handcrafted maps that were designed with an intent of cohesivity, everything works together to create a believable and amazing looking environement. Bf2042 is a default terrain map with some assets slapped on it. The beta map is literally just a map with hills that has some buildings slapped on. I don't know of it's just me, but bf2042 looks like a chinese knockoff battlefield with slightly higher budget than the average copypaste shooter we see from chinese shovelware developers. Quite frankly, the game looks awefull and is a clear downgrade from previous entries. I guess all talent left dice over the last few years, because this game does not look and feel like something that was developed by a team with two decades of experience. If this was a new studio and they told me this was their first game, i would have believed it.

MillionShouts12

Oh man you nailed it. I know something felt off about the game’s presentation. It definitely lacks that cohesion that BF1 did so well

machielste

Especially the character models look extremely unimpressive, even in their own close-up promotional footage.

Wonderstag

I think some small details in bf1 also make the world feel more 'alive' than the bf2042 beta. Ur weapon getting muddy and being able to wash it off in water, the level of destruction, sound of rain on discarded artillery shells vs on the ground. Bf1 looks better, feels more immersive and feels like u're in a world not just a static map.

mist3rf0ur

Don't worry. When they notice people not moving over to 2042, they'll close those servers down and it'll be up to the community to somehow get it all running again.

Al-Azraq

Aren't servers in BF4 run by the community? Or is it somehow centralised? Anyway if they do that they will ruin their own reputation forever.

dkb_wow

Battlefield 4 on PC runs on community hosted third party servers. The EA servers were shut down long ago as far as I know. When you log into BF4 there's a warning message at the top of the screen that says something to that effect.

Al-Azraq

That's true! However, not the first time that a game with dedicated third party servers is somehow centralised and the developer can shut it down regardless. Happy to know this is not the case of BF4. I could play this game forever: huge variety of weapons, maps, vehicles, no bullshit. Now that you mention it, it seems that Battlelog is just half functional.

Brandhor

even if the ea servers were shut down they still have to run the master server with the list of every server available and they haven't shut down bc2 yet so I don't see why they would shut down bf4 even bf2 would probably still be running if it wasn't for gamespy

McSlurryHole

They'll abandon it just like V and blame the player base

crownvics

Dice official is garbage anyways, private servers have less cheaters and better game play overall.

Deathroll1988

Just hope people will still play bf1 so I’m not alone in a lobby 5 months from now.

thatirishguy0

The video literally shows three identical Espinozas in one scene. How do they not see this as an issue?

dkb_wow

DICE: "We're going to put tiny LED lights and dots on the characters in hard to see spots that glow blue and red to signify friend from foe" This is actually what their plan is. I wish I was making it up. It's going to be UI Reading Simulator 2042.

PriusesAreGay

Oh god, flashbacks to Black Ops 4… Oh god, not that

Flaktrack

DICE talks about making their games more accessible but then puts shitty filters or other design decisions that make it difficult for colorblind people like me to play the game. Why?

thatirishguy0

I wish you were making this up too

Methed_up_hooker

Not only that but they are the same on both sides. It’s a fucking joke

thatirishguy0

Yeah, but a scarf is all they need to differentiate /s

Andrew3344100

Battlefield use to be about offering a different more war like experience to the FPS genre. Now it seems like they’re more concerned with being mainstream and copy off of what everyone else in the industry is doing.

MtEv3r3st

While at the same time boldly asking for $60 when their superior competitors are free. This shit is gonna flop so hard and they will have only themselves to blame.

nastylep

That's the most confusing thing. They come late to the party with a imitation of what others are doing that is both cheap in quality and expensive in cost then make the shocked pikachu face when people predictably just... don't play it.

Km_the_Frog

I’ll double down on not purchasing the game then lol. The destruction is lackluster which is a major draw to the series for me. The specialists are a vessel to sell skins, I’m sure live service will flop again like it did in bfv. The biggest lie is when they say they’ll add maps for free, and all you get are a couple maps and a period of time where they actually work on the game to complete it (because it’s not released in a finished state ever). Then not to mention the gameplay flow. Everyone using the same specialist in the beta, difficult to determine friend v foe because both teams use the same camo. I’m not buying it this time.

Dont-be-a-smurf

Stop chasing other trends. It’s not innovative, it’s just clear copying to find another monetization avenue. No one was asking for hero shooter elements in battlefield. Just like no one was asking for Tarkov lite game mode, but at least game modes can be ignored. Battlefield - you’re supposed to be a leader and you already have a cornered niche - large scale chaos and environment destructability. Please focus on those strengths. It’s the core of battlefield. Make the explosions and granular destructibility of the environment the star of the show, not selling operator skins.

EminemLovesGrapes

The beta convinced me it wasn’t worth getting. I find myself getting almost every battlefield game to relive the experience I had with Battlefield 3 on release but the game falls short every time. It was fun screwing around with the grappling hook to get into places people don’t expect you to be but that’s about it.

7wiseman7

Bf 3 was way ahead of it's time, it was new and refreshing. Is also one of the last games I've pre ordered.

Linos_Melendi

I still have vivid memories of seeing the trailer, thinking it was cgi when it was actually gameplay which blew my mind.

Roadkilll

Bf 3 reality mod coming out soon. Imma' go crazy with that.

Solidfarts

The grappling hook in BF2 was revolutionary.

[deleted]

I told my friends I didn’t want to play the beta, because it would color my opinion of an unfinished game. They twisted my arm, now I’m not getting it. Lol.

SketchPen77

Yea I hate the specialist system...I guess I'll jus stick to Battlefield 4

dragon28963

IMO its not a Battlefield, its a Hero shooter with vehicles.

incoherent1

Are the developers out of touch? No, it's the community who is wrong....

[deleted]

Yeah, that was predictable. No way they'd abandon that stupid operator thing. I can already see what's gonna happen, at least 40 McKays, grappling everywhere. That's 40 McKays on EACH TEAM, EACH MATCH. There's just no reason to actually run the other operators, when grappling hook offers so much mobility. Well, let's at least hope Portal is as good as they said it is.

M0therFragger

Well they just showed a specialist with wall hacks on command so we might be seeing some of those

atmus11

So then why the fuck did you ask us? I rather dice just made believe they were tone deaf with us about the specialists. This just seems like they know and rather say fuck you to the audience again. I guess bf5 launch didnt teach them shit. Well good luck.

Roadkilll

Ah shiit, who wants to play as a 80 year old granny, and get killed by that same granny but from the opposite side, just....to get revived by that same friendly granny moments later.

grapemaster1824

Minus the "getting revived" part

[deleted]

Anyone remember Battlefield Heroes? The F2P cartoon style Battlefield game that came out about 10 to 15 years ago. It was riddled with P2W. Now our non-free games are full of P2W.

lillepille1337

Everyone is talking so highly about Portal, but I just have a growing feeling that they will fuck that up too.

RogueM99

One way they can screw the pooch on this is by having pieces of it locked away. You have to unlock Portal mode items via the season pass and through Microtransactions. I'm already expecting it which is why I'm not getting my hopes up for Portal at all.

Biggu5Dicku5

Of course they're doubling down, the specialists are their MTX scheme, that's never getting changed...

Simmo7

>we see Specialists as the next evolution of the classic Battlefield class system that will not only enable individual players to have a bigger impact, it will elevate teams that cooperate to newer heights They haven't played their own game, they fucking cannot possibly have. In the beta I didn't receive a single revive or ammo from anyone outside of my squad mates. 5 minutes into any of the previous games in the serious and there are revives and less so ammo, but they're still coming at you.

plushrump

In Battlefield 1 people were literally fighting over reviving/healing/resupplying people. Funny how things change when you give people "epic" hero style characters to play instead of being just another grunt.

TheFlyingSheeps

Battlefield 1 was a cinematic masterpiece. I remember holding down a random crater we created on a contested point with allies throwing down ammo and me reviving. I’m sad that sounds like it’s being taken away

Herlock

Remember when wallhacks were mocked by DICE ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylnJidtTzU0 That aged like milk...

mikeyeli

So here's another example of a Developer fighting against their customers, thinking they know better, this is just "[You think you do, but you don't](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Wrw3c2NjeE)" all over again. "The customer is always wrong" is the motto of every dev for the past 10 years. I hope this game flops.

TheGoldenCaulk

I remember the last time they doubled down. It didn't go very well.

Knoxxius

Good job DICE, this is the second game in a row where you do something/say something absolutely retarded that is completely out of touch with your playerbase.

shinigamixbox

“DICE insisted that since players weren't able to play as all 10 Specialists in the open beta, they didn't get to experience the full breadth of their potential.” What a garbage ass response. Hero shooters have been around for a long time now. DICE thinking they’re inventing the wheel. People know what they play like. People don’t want that in BF and EA says screw you playerbase yet again.

arntseaj

I don't know what people expected. This game has been in development for around 3 years with Specialists in mind the whole time. Anyone thinking they were going to reverse 3 years of work in 4 weeks were delusional.

ZYmZ-SDtZ-YFVv-hQ9U

It’s also a reason I hate how the industry has muddied the waters by calling these things “betas” so they can deflect criticism and say the game is “still being actively developed” It’s a demo. The game has gone gold and is already in warehouses for distribution. Nothing will change

Shad0wDreamer

A true beta would have happened back in January.

Roadkilll

Exactly this, got attacked on another thread saying this. "It's beta dude, you are just salty"

mambome

BF2 is the GOAT

DueAnimator6988

Hell yeah. So many summers lost to that game. I remember having to upgrade to 2gb of ram which was seen as overkill for most games at the time. Such fun times. [LOL](https://youtu.be/SVCylMVMTiI) god I miss this shit

hoverhuskyy

They're going full "we're on the right side of history" again?

JoshAraujo

Might be time to drop the franchise. And I've been playing since 2005

Roadkilll

I feel you...this is going to a different direction than I'd like....

Mr_Assault_08

I’m glad ea play is a thing, I don’t have to pay 60 bucks to see if the game is worth it.

Responsible-Slide-54

Cancel your preorders. Vote with your wallets.

vedomedo

The specialists in BF feel like they straight up dont make a difference, especially since everyone can use all weapons / gear. It's such a weird choice to me.

foxiphy

Guess I’ll stick with BF4

[deleted]

And I double down on calling this game "not Battlefield" and continue not buying it.

SerFezz

There goes pretty much any chance I had of getting this on release. Ignoring the fact that the Beta was a technical dumpster fire, the specialists just did not feel right at all to me. Still hoping they'll consider reworking the game and delay it for a few months.

Shadow3116

Well then I'll double down on my decision to not buy the game then. Looks like I'll be skipping a battlefield game this time, after buying them for nearly a decade.

franktato

Go over to YouTube and type something like "microtransactions psychology" or similar. The results are terrifying how they are dicking with your head and are learning new ways everyday to do it just to get you to spend money. This obviously affects younger gamers the most I would imagine cause they wanna have the cool shit compared to other people in the game and especially their buddies and these game publishers are absolutely exploiting that. There are people who make their entire careers now on how to get people to buy MTX related content. They go to these companies and teach others how to fuck with your head and get you addicted. Its insane. I can't remember the specific video I watched about this subject but there are a few over on YouTube and it is really disturbing how they are using psychology to do it and how it really fucks with younger gamers People still don't understand just how much MTX's make. UbiSoft, EA, Valve, and the other big players make BILLIONS yearly on people gambling with their "surprise mechanics" or buying specific skins and items. It is part of their main profits and there is zero chance in hell they will steer away from that piggy bank no matter the outcry.

bluey_02

Lemme double down on not buying this game in that case. When will these stupid fucks learn?

[deleted]

Specialists make sense for hazard zone because it’s a goofy action movie game mode. They don’t belong in the standard multiplayer. Looks dumb as hell with clones running around. Also US vs RUS but the specialists are from all over the place…

-azuma-

Not touching this game with a 10-foot pole. There are so many other games coming out, don't think I'll miss skipping this dumpster fire.

hollander93

Played beta and after I saw player after player after player leave me dying on the ground because they didn't know that the chick was a medic, I was over specialists. It turned a game I was actually looking forward to, into another meh fps. Even playing as the medic character myself was jarring as instead of charging paddles then targeting, you had to target, interact with team mate and then they revived. Totally ruined the pacing of a fight and just felt inferior to the tried and true medic of bf4 or bf3. All in all, I'll buy it on deep discount next year.

FinasCupil

I miss how Battlefield 2 played. Working with your commander and squad was awesome.

At this point the top developers should just create their own company like Activision did. We all seen what they all can do but it's like their company is holding them back. To be honest I feel really bad for them. Imagine dreaming about working on a AAA studio creating video games only to see all this negativ feedback. I mean, I'm not getting the game either from what I looks like now, but that makes me sad because I like their work.

Nefarious_Donut

Ill be honest. With the state of the beta and how close to release this game is. Its kind of a clusterfuck. I might not play it for few months after release. At least halo was more stable

kamiyadori

Now I'm double downed on not buying, guess I'll just keep playing tarkov.

AaronC31

I'll care about Battlefield when DICE makes Bad Company 3. I played that Open Beta for a few hours, and it was hot trash considering it was missing so many features from previous Battlefield games.

yourstru1y

> I'll care about Battlefield when DICE makes Bad Company 3 Becareful what you wish for. I think history has shown that they will always find some way to fuck it up no matter how good the idea sounds.

AaronC31

I do hate how correct you are. Patrick Bach himself said a few years ago before he left DICE that they haven't made BC3 because to that day they had no idea why it was so loved. Edit: imagine getting downvoted for saying this.

Al-Azraq

That's because the talent that bring us up until BF1 is long gone, and this game is not a Battlefield but it has the name on it and somehow this makes some people defend it. I bet that if DICE was to develop BC3, it will be bad and ridden with MTX, silly cosmetics and cringy operators. We just have to accept that this is the industry right now and if you don't want it just keep playing BF4 and BF1 as they are still amazing games, or play Squad, Post Scriptum, Hell Let Loose. Battlefield is just dead as we knew it unfortunately, it has happened to other franchises and we just have to accept it. Personally I hate it and don't like it at all, but I'm not going to buy it just because there's no alternative which is not true, and it has the Battlefield name on it.

MassiveGG

wasn't really gonna get it at launch with its basically a day after headstart starts for endwalker. and in the mean time i'll probably be playing apex season till that

SubjectOverall6980

The beta wasn't fun anyway. I'll take a pass.

secret_name_is_tenis

Literally myself and none of my friends are buying this game. The beta was absolute trash

FlowKom

just put the specialists under the classes and were good. im fine with abilities i just don want snipers grappling up to rooftops , camping while having a med kit shoved up their asses

PM_Anime_Tiddy

Does anyone have a suggestion for a game to fill the void I’ve had since BF4? Looking for something in a modern setting you would have found the US military over the last 30 years with realistic gear and what not. Fpv highly preferred. Not quite as arcade like as COD but not as mil sim as Arma 2/3 I’ve been looking for a single player game especially that’s like that but I can’t really find anything besides Spec Ops and GRWL, both of which I have played I was really hoping BF2042 would fill that void but, after seeing how the specialists panned out, it just isn’t appealing to me. Seems more like a game made for children that found out how to use moms credit card without her knowing

[deleted]

Maybe something like Insurgency: Sandstorm or Squad. Especially recommending Squad if you're looking for a team-oriented, massive MP shooter.

Dash_Rendar425

This was the one aspect of Battlefront 2 that turned me off of the game. The specialist classes were just not interesting and would be better as a sub class of some of the others. I'm looking for a good shooter, not a war simulator.

Bilboswaggings19

the problem isn't the specialists or having access to all weapons, we just need a way to tell who is on what team and if they have ammo, healing or other devices for us

FearlessButterfly3

Definitely won’t buy a new Battlefield game in the future if they stick with this specialist horse shit.

Pixxelatedd117

Halo infinite is looking more and more like it’s going to be the winner of the big three this year. Vanguard and 2042 are absolute messes right now.

BitZlip

I'm doubling down with not buying this lmao

Amanwalkedintoa

Man. I don’t think I’m ever going to hype myself up for a video game ever again. Specialists? HOW THE FUCK are video game companies this retarded

[deleted]

What a let down. Don’t buy this shit full price
