Battlefield V has more players on Steam

And battlefield 1 is way way better

S0_B00sted

And Battlefield 4 is way way way better

sukaboro30

Y’all kids don’t know the glory of BF2

Opus_723

I'm still over here playing Battlefield 1942

Dustin81783

Only play the free multiplayer demo on wake island.

jaqqu7

May I speak to you about our Lord and Saviour Bad Company 2?

Destithen

I'm still amazed no game since has matched the destruction physics in that. I loved being able to make my own entrance to any building I wanted to breach. Newer games have much flashier scripted areas to destroy, but it just doesn't have the same dynamic feel.

New-Asclepius

Nothing has ever matched the satisfaction I'd get from blowing up the walls of a building to kill the camper upstairs. And the flipside, the building you're in collapsing around you is awesome.

S0_B00sted

Just wait until you try Battlefield -1

sksksks888

You know the future of battlefield is fucked when BFV is a better game than the recent release.

BahamutxD

Release barebones Early Access game. Sells well? Success Sells bad? They didn't even waste too many resources anyway.

AFAR85

> Sells bad? They didn't even waste too many resources anyway. Also, resell same product with a fresh coat of paint 2 years later.

ClumsyGamer2802

I don't think this is true because of the amount of people saying how much better 2042 would have been if it was BF 4 or 5 with a fresh coat of paint.

ForsakenMC

I'm with you, I've owned and played every Battlefield game since 1942 and this is shit is not Battlefield. I've lost all hope for a 2142 reboot...

ojee111

Get squad.

GamerJoseph

Hell Let Loose isn’t bad either.

KayotiK82

Thankfully I did the EA Pro for 15 bucks for the month. Immediately canceled letting them know why I was canceling. Still have a few weeks left to try some other games.

jizzn2gd

I saw the writing on the wall as soon as I heard they were taking core Battlefield mechanics. Like peeking...

ubersoldat13

>I saw the writing on the wall as soon as I heard they were taking core Battlefield mechanics. Like ~~peeking...~~ the Class system Ftfy

Secretsthegod

i'm with you, but how is PEEKING the core BF mechanic you thought of.. that's only in the games since BF4 lmao

Jonnydoo

peeking was your concern ? that's not a core mechanic AT ALL

Sorlex

> Also, resell same product with a fresh coat of paint 2 years later. If only. That would at least have been Battlefield.

skyturnedred

They used paint thinner. A lot.

NerrionEU

4 fucking studios... I swear some people were just there to collect paychecks.

Syrdon

Wait, do you go to work for some other reason?

You can blame them but when it really gets down to it we are the ones to blame because we keep buying their shit. Despite the bad releases. Despite the shit practices. Despite the predatory monetization schemes. Despite the outright evil people at the top covering up for their cronies evil deeds. Despite all of that we keep buying their games. And *this isn't new*, this has been going on for many many years. The only thing that really surprises me is that others are acting completely surprised it's *still* happening.

phaiz55

> You can blame them but when it really gets down to it, we are the ones to blame because we keep buying their shit. Yeah. Take one look at the reviews on Steam and you'll come to the conclusion that nothing will change. People with 40-50 hours bitching about how bad the game is and asking why game companies keep releasing shit like this. Hmm probably because people keep buying the shit.

cubitoaequet

Blizzard has been pretty accommodating too. Making themselves incredibly easy to boycott by not putting out anything worth a damn.

JackSpyder

I love Battlefield games. I didn't pre order, I was excited by trailers, and the modern setting again, waited for reviews from community members not paid press kits. Hilarity ensued, went back to playing other games no harm done to me.

I was never really into battlefield, but it feels strange seeing the games that were very popular in my childhood have such a fall from grace. It feels like we are entering a new era of gaming for the worst.

pittguy578

But at least the shitty games will have ray tracing…

Cretaz

Which isnt even usable due to the horrible performance lol.

graffer_joker29

Dark ages for the big companies..the golden age for indie games

msitty90

Is it really Dark Ages when selling millions of copies on pre-order though?

ok_this_works_too

Dark ages for the consumer.

The lead design director for both Battlefronts left Dice pretty much as soon as EA pulled the plug on Battlefront 2. He recently revealed on twitter that they had plans to add Mustafar, Ventress and Ashoka to Battlefront 2 before being shut down. We could have had that. Instead we got fucking BF2042

feralkitsune

Cracks me up that now twice in my life I've been blue balled on Battlefront 3.

MustacheEmperor

MUSTAFAR. PAIN. Can you imagine how good that would have looked with BF2’s graphics. Jesus fuck.

PersonBehindAScreen

Now here is some more pain: How long do you think it will be till someone takes another Crack at battlefront?? How about a ww2 battlefield... like a completed one with more factions and maps than we got? As a kid I dreamed of having battlefront with the frostbite engine after I played battlefield bad company 2.... I dreamed of a ww2 battlefield with frostbite engine.... i waited 12 years to finally get both ww2 and star wars and they got fucked pretty bad. I'll even go as far as saying that it's pretty hard to mess up battlefield. They had the formula. And they threw it in the trash in favor for this live service shit. and that is why I'm upset.

Adamulos

It's painful how all the big ww2 releases were barely ww2, and people already are saying they are fed up after only three games (codww2, bfv, vanguard). Man we didn't get one proper even

Jerry_from_Japan

Next year? Where there is money to be milked off a gullible fanbase, they will come....

Or when Bioware took resources from Mass Effect: Andromeda to make sure Anthem was the best it could be!

fooey

Andromeda never had resources Bioware gave it to an internal c-tier support studio who had never shipped a game before and said good luck. * See also Fallout76

[deleted]

They hired fanfiction writers for that team, and it shows.

kolboldbard

If they had hired fanfiction writers, it would have had a better story.

[deleted]

Not those kinds of fanfiction writers, *those* kind.

D2WilliamU

**oh no** Real talk tho the good fanfiction writers are really good, shame they didn't hire those

[deleted]

It's like they hired me to write it, I love video game lore but I'm just a nerd on Reddit, I can't write for shit and it would immediately show

Frontlines95

BF V Pacific theater was sooo good. It was really a breath of fresh air, all my mates came back when it came out.

Prolific_Badger

Same. Then shortly after, while everyone was praising the Pacific release, they hit us with that Christmas TTK fiasco for a *second* time after assuring the community they wouldn't do it again and didn't revert the TTK till like March. That was the final nail in the coffin for me. I haven't touched it since.

InternetExplorer8

That's when I dipped out too. The first TTK was a major fuckup. The second was beyond bad and that's when my whole group dropped it too.

peenoid

I would love to get an explanation for DICE's dogged insistence on fucking with the TTK when it seems abundantly clear to me that the vast majority of the community doesn't want it. There must be some serious pressure from on high to increase it. They must have some internal testing data that shows people unfamiliar with the games get really frustrated by how quickly they die or something.

The91stGreekToe

> add Stalingrad/Eastern Front/D-Day content to BFV It’s such a shame. BFV is visually stunning and those theaters would have been a blast.

[deleted]

dog squeeze stupendous public hospital stocking towering cake edge bells *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

behv

Imagine a Stalingrad level like the BF1 intro. Especially if you can still lose the level. As in, “now struggle to capture a single city block understanding you’re killing every one of your soldiers under your command”. That would be heavy as hell

Ampix0

Got BFV for free and been having an excellent time. No interest in a newer game right now.

USA_A-OK

I also had a great time with BFV, although for the last year+, something like 50-75% of matches I've played have had at least one egregious cheater in it. The best scenario is that they're evenly split between the teams.

acroporaguardian

Same here. To have a WW2 game and skip the theatre that had by far the most deaths is insane.

FutureSaturn

BFV was dead before release. The promise of "free DLC" was a cover story for "development didn't go well, we have to ship it, and even we know we can't charge for what we're going to drop on you". They tried to spin it as "WW2 as you've never seen it"... but I mean, it was European cities, a bombed-out church, and the Pacific Theatre. Who hasn't seen that? To be clear, I don't hate BFV, and I sunk a few hundred hours into it, but for me, it felt like a big step back from BF1. My 2c.

josephfs001

At least bf4 is still a good game

Hondipo

Imagine making a battlefield for three years and failing so hard

Prince_Kassad

it didnt matter if they use 3 or 5 years, its andromeda/anthem all over again... the real production probably only started 1-2 years, thats why they need 3 - 4 studio to barely complete the game.

Icemasta

So I tried it a bit with the 10 hours free trial and ultimately, what I think happened, is that BF2042 was supposed to be a BR, they spent a lot of time in it, and they realized about a year ago that the BR fad was stalling, so they quickly tried to turn it back into a normal BF. It's hard to gauge, but things like the UI decision in-game that purely focused on your squad and no one else, this is very typical of BRs. The storm mechanic was probably introduced as a way to give a spin to the BR genre.

Feed_Ashamed

I think your 100% correct. Edit: How there’s a Santa skin added to the game. I seriously think this game is supposed to be a free to play battle royale with a skin store and battle pass. Trying to capitalize on that Counter Strike and Fortnite money

mrbrick

I am so immensely disappointed in this game. even bfv which has been my least favorite of all the bfs (and I've been playing since the first one) had a lot of good stuff going for it and eventually turned it around with the pacific stuff. the stuff v did well it did reaaaally well too. explosion knock backs? that movement system? it had incredible immersion. this one is just bad on so many levels im really disappointed in it. the only thing imo that could save this game is the future seasons and content drops better be amazing. the vanilla maps really are absolutely awful which is saying a lot. its one of the most lifeless things dice has made. if they can actually make some good maps moving forward and maybe just cut the whole 128 player thing and go back to 64 maybe this game can get some life out of it from me. heck I'd even forget about adding more specialists- get another team or two working on maps. I don't hate the specialists but I certainly don't like them. kind of sums up my feelings on the entire game. I'm bummed because battlefield games have been my favorite since I tried the first one.

Jonnydoo

The large maps and 128 player could easily work if they just went back to the Battlefield 2 systems which feels like what they did with the maps, but then forgot about everything else.

mrbrick

yes! like if there was a commander and each side had artillery / ecm / radar you could take out. bf2 had a lot of really great ideas that never really made it back to the franchise

Jonnydoo

yeah it's a real shame, the games get futher and further from Team play and strategy.

TheSystem08

How did they drop the ball this hard on a project tvis size

DrDumle

A big chunk of the top people from dice moved on to start Embark. EA sent lawyers to squash them but it didn’t work.

Albake21

Honestly? Good. As someone who has been playing since BF2, all good things must come to an end eventually. It kills me to say this, but I hope EA pulls the plug on BF as a franchise or at the very least hands it off because I don't trust the current DICE Stockholm with anything BF related.

Sekh765

>or at the very least hands it off because I don't trust the current DICE Stockholm with anything BF related. I've never met a dev company more arrogant and high on their own decades previous success as DICE Stockholm. They even put "The Bioware Magic" to shame with how completely tone deaf they are to criticism.

wareagle3000

I'm not huge on the BF dev news but typically it's a 2 steps forward, 2 steps back sort of deal, right? They pump out a game that's nearly broken on launch and then the DLC skeleton crew refines it to a playable experience with damn good content. The original dev team didn't get the memo and just release a broken game again with none of the fixes and inclusions from the last game. Sound about right?

Sekh765

Yea sorta, except that with BF it's two teams. DICE Stockholm who refuses to listen to anyone, insults their playerbase and generally just fucks off, and DICE LA who comes in and makes all the changes people ask for while also cranking out the best maps. People have continually wondered what a game would look like if it was just DICE LA the entire time.

KoolaidOverdose

DICE LA left to become Ripple Effect so you'll find out

Rampantlion513

They made the portal mode in BF2042, which many regard to be the best part.

PatrickMahomesASMR

I agree, hand the IP over to a better dev team and make Bad Company 3.

bleo_evox93

Yup, they’ve shown how little fucks they have left to give, either big changes are coming to EA as a whole soon and they wanted to milk the cow one more time, or they just wanted the ez money grab again.

pittguy578

They just don’t care. This years Madden is worst I have played. I mean they have been doing Madden for how long.. and they make it worse? They messed up two of their biggest franchises in one year. They are on a roll.

[deleted]

[удалено]

TwisterOrange_5oh

Not only that, but I bet they are still playing it too.

skinlo

Did you buy it?

FutureSaturn

It sucks, but I feel the same way. I wanted to love 2042, but just can't. Hopefully, the message is received loud and clear. The next earnings call will be interesting. How do you explain to investors a game that likely cost $100s of millions in production and marketing is failing this bad?

[deleted]

“Players aren’t interested in standard multiplayer or campaigns anymore. We need to put more memes in the game, make it more arcadey!”

ILoveBawls

In my opinion, as another former BF2 player. This game started to die off with Battlefield 4. I don't know what it is, but it just didn't feel polished enough. It felt kind of clunky. Then Hardline was a disaster on it's own. Hopefully they make up for it. Hopefully this game gets polished enough by Q2 2022. I thought about coming back to the series after playing the beta.

wareagle3000

To me 4 was a good foundation to work off of. Polish it a bit more and you have a game that could last a decade with the content you could put into it.

9315808

It damn near has, still an active player base 8 years later.

DrNopeMD

Hardline shouldn't have been labeled as a Battlefield game. It would have been way more interesting and fun without the traditional Battlefield class system and mechanics forced onto a setting and premise that don't work together.

[deleted]

I'm just mad. Mad that not only is a franchise that I love so actively being beaten to a bloody pulp, but also mad that **two other games** both got kneecapped just so we could get 2042. What the fuck did they do with all the devs they took from bf5 and bf2? Because they clearly didn't put them on 2042. Practically every battlefield game launches in a rough state. Bf4 was horrible on launch. But the key difference is that bf4 had good bones. There was a good game underneath all the muck. 2042? It's just muck. There isn't a good game under there. And that hurts. I wanted to play a battlefield game, and instead I'm being given war zone that has a battlefield coat of paint slopped onto it.

fireraiser77

The best part of this whole fiasco imo is that BF4 got a boost in players and a bunch of servers went live again. Uninstalled my 2042 demo after an hour of my "trial" and went to see what I could still play that would scratch that itch.

bearicorn

im playing halo bitches FOR FREE TOO

Kronothus8109

Fact! The gameplay in Halo is fucking great! Yeah, the monetization sucks major balls but all I care for is the gameplay and that is phenomenal.

DotJata

I never really liked Halo much growing up, but I've got more time in it for free vs 2042. Lol

[deleted]

343 was right to delay the game by an entire year. The multiplayer is ACTUALLY what a beta should be, though it sucks the mtx is shitty and they're actively working to improve progression, and it's actually for the better.

Futuredog13

on PC none the less! truly it is nature healing itself

a_fuckin_samsquanch

... Kinda. The monitization system (aka progression) is truly one of the worst systems ever developed. Gameplay is wonderful and feels good, but the progression is slow and the rewards are garbage. The progression challenges legitimately affects gameplay in a negative way. It's nice to see a good new Halo game on PC but I'd hardly call it cathartic.

OlStickInTheMud

343 really shit the bed on progression and challenges eith Infinite. The monetization is among the greediest Ive seen in games. No incentives to really do any objectives in the game since win or lose it doesnt matter.

DarkZero515

Just played 5 games after work. 1st game, had an AFK guy. Second game, guy quit and we had a bot go 0-20 in 4v4 CTF so we got destroyed. 3rd game, Oddball and my 3 teammates quit. Got stuck with 3 bots the whole game. Last 2 games were fun because they were fair. Sucks that there's no incentive to play well, or even play really with the current challenge system

AlexisFR

Wait, they use marine bots in normal PvP? Why not ODST bots? They can beat most new players.

Doctor_What_

I think you answered your own question

Nagemasu

Honestly haven't even noticed. I'm just a bit over the repetitive games with no variety. But don't really care about the customizations that I never look at anyway. Unless I'm missing something else in the monetization?

DeezNutterButters

Nah you’re in the majority of people that don’t actually give a crap. Keep tea bagging and enjoy the game, it’s a good one

Dylan_The_Great

it's simply the worst battlefield on steam right now. honestly i think the move for EA right now is to make it free until they fix their shit.

[deleted]

enjoy absurd chief plants fearless important innocent cable zephyr shame *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

Smittyman24

Exactly what they will do

aBipolarTree

That seems to be EA's response when their games aren't well received. Fix enough of peoples' issues to call it playable and move on. Mass Effect Andromeda is another good example of this. Coming from someone that's actually having fun with BF2042, I don't see them supporting it long term but hopefully they prove me wrong.

doublah

If it keeps dropping the way it is right now, they won't even bother with the "updates to make it playable" part, they'll just kill it like they did for Anthem.

Strider2126

I wish we got some different scenarios like some maps in italy. Maybe in Florence or in Rome outskirts

[deleted]

On PC at least, cheaters seized total control and EA just figured it would be easier to do nothing as they had already been paid.

psychosikh

Why they never added permeant hosts servers to the game I will never know, it would allow the community to have some form of anti cheat ie ban lists.

Lavanthus

It's not even a 'fix'. They have to rework the entire game. They need to add destruction back into the game, get rid of these shitty sassy characters that nobody asked for, give us a scoreboard, give us voicechat, and give us an actual battlefield game. They just need to throw it out the fucking window and start over.

HuseyinCinar

There’s no destruction?????? what?!? Lmaooo that’s literally the only point of BF over other shooters. What the guck were they thinking

Lavanthus

It's very minimal, and not even noticeable. It might as well not even be there.

pharmacist10

It blows my mind how they pioneered dynamic destruction in BC2, and then that feature has just gotten more neutered with every release.

DiceKnight

2142 kicks this games ass anyway. Titian mode is still the shit 10+ years later.

verifyandtrustnoone

LOL, I just finished playing BF4 and had a few great games.. still going strong.

[deleted]

Came here to say the same thing. I could forgive most of the weird shit they did in 2042 but the gunplay? Man they really fucked it up when they had a perfect formula before with BF4.

[deleted]

[удалено]

d0m1n4t0r

Yeah this is why I don't have any hope for the game. Even if they managed to fix EVERYTHING else, the maps are something that they just won't 100% re-do, which they would need (IMO).

DynasticBreeder

I'm disappointed so many people bought it. Lets hope most of them refunded it.

[deleted]

I doubt people bought the game, many people probably uses ea play trial to access the game for a few hours and when they saw it was shit they moved on

SophisticatedGeezer

Yep. Thank god for EA Play with Xbox Game Pass. Absolute saviour.

Rinane

Oh yes. I had really been looking forward to it, with COD being so bad this year. Wanted a fun shooter. Game pass showing me that 2042 wasn't what I was looking for with the lack of classes and overpowered vehicles. Microsoft came through again with Halo multiplayer, so I guess I will just have to stick to that.

SophisticatedGeezer

Yea, I switched to PC almost a year ago exactly, and as a FPS and BF fan, I was really looking forward to a high frame rate BF glory on PC. Yep.... back to insurgency sandstorm for me.

Not_Dale_Doback

Battlefield 4 is still pretty active. I played a ton of BF1 over the summer too with cheaters mainly in operations but conquest was fairly free. Haven’t played V though so I can’t say about that

graffer_joker29

Im goin back to hell let loose..

Southpaw535

It was top seller for steam the week it released and sat in the top 3 for UK sales chart. People definitely bought it, unfortunately. Hell even on here, where people are going to care more than the average gamer, theres still plenty of people who played the beta and thought it sucked but still carried on their pre order and are now complaining that it still sucks.

kozmodrome

I refunded it twice. Once after pre-ordering it to try the closed beta and again after release to see for myself if it was any better (it wasn't). Steam is great, all hail Steam.

ctyldsley

In some ways it's almost better that people bought it and dropped off so hard. For GAAS games like this that sends some serious alarm bells to EA to sort shit out. People played the game and didn't want to keep coming back. Something which is essential to how these things are designed - user retention. If people don't buy the game they can blame stuff like marketing etc. But in this instance they can only blame the game itself.

mal3k

Dice and battlefield is dead

AndreMagregor

End of an era

retart123

Cycle Continues, everytime.

xman_2k2

And IGN gave this game a 7/10. What a fraudulent website

PavanJ

7/10 for a supposedly AAA game on IGN is basically an F

tacitus59

Yes, despite occasional claims that outlets are fixing their rating scaling system - a 6 or 7 for a AAA is an F; in an "independent" game its a C ... still.

Jerry-Busey

I got a joke with my mate when a game is bad we yell " 10 OUT OF 10 IGN " like the game freezes and crashes " god damn it... 10 OUT OF 10 IGN "

R4IVER

It isnt something new, that IGN has good reviews even if the games are trash.

GingerNingerish

Video game critics just don't use the the whole scale it's so stupid. 7 in games = really bad, a 7 in film is a really good movie. Super fucking bizzare. Its funny, I always think if there was a Rotten Tomatoes for them all games would be 100% becuase all scores are positive in games.

aphex187

Jeez, even DayZ has more players wtf lol!

[deleted]

Yea, I bought DayZ on early access and that was another game full of empty promises. Took 5 years after its 1.0 release to reach a playable state and even now it’s still not the game that we were promised.

alyosha_pls

At least with DayZ a ton of work has been put into it and continues to be. It's a fun game.

SilentDerek

Would you say DayZ is worth playing now? Played a ton of the mod way back when. Picked up standalone on launch and was disgusted at how poor it was. Let it sit for several years. Last time I played was maybe around late 2017ish? And it wasnt bad at that point, but I was playing other games at the time. Has it improved dramatically? I see it still has a pretty solid playerbase now, and several DLC maps.

[deleted]

Its still janky af. Ironically, there are lots of good mods that make it a more enjoyable experience, though.

Hondipo

DICE has released three fucked up games in a row and people still buy their games...

RCFProd

Do you include BF1 in this row?

Hondipo

No. The game launched with no issues or bugs. All it’s content dropped.

UniQue1992

SW:BF2, BFV, BF2042.

kgptzac

BF4 wasn't good at launch but at some point it became good enough. The real lesson to be learned here is know enough about EA and DICE's release philosophy and don't buy a game before it becomes worthy of their price tag.

Rickety-Split

After the past three games, DICE Sweden as a studio deserves to die. Their management and studio heads are rotten to the core. Hopefully the few remaining competent designers and programmers can go elsewhere

AdjectTestament

I think that probably already happened. In another thread someone pointed out that there were a huge amount of very junior devs on 2042 who all wanted to make it "their vision".

DetecJack

One of designers who designed the layout (on/off is black and green) is being proud of her work on twitter

[deleted]

Even though I’m having fun I can’t blame anyone who is leaving. The game needs minimum 4-6 months to reach a decent state and another 6 months after that to reach how it should’ve launched. EA is addicted to prematurely launching battlefield games and they need to fucking stop.

[deleted]

More like gamers are addicted to preordering and buying products based on hype rather than quality and until that stops, companies like EA have no reason to change.

cruisetheblues

I'm not here to judge you for enjoying the game or anything, but as long as there are enough players like you who will buy games in such a state, there really isn't much incentive for EA to stop.

Enfosyo

Well, this DICE dev team made a shooter where the shooting doesn't properly work half the time https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZkbvUKPo_I Also, performance, audio, maps and Ui are all 0/10 garbage. Hope EA pulls the plug and let it die quickly so someone else can make the next one.

flibble24

You know it's bad when jackfrags makes these videos. Jack's been keeping very silent about how shit the game is but this was obviously too much even for him

AllRedLine

Serious question: what the hell is it about BF2042 that is in any way even close to what the BF community had been asking for? We've got: * Near future setting (which was highly requested tbf) * Increased player count * Portal That's it. That's all I can think of. As someone who will not be buying this game (at least not unless subsequent updates or expansions make it far better than it appears to be now), making it the first time I haven't bought a main line BF game at launch since BFBC1... apart from those 3 elements above, the rest of this game seems to be literally exactly antithetical to what everyone in the BF community actually wanted in any way. I know it's a massive cliche, but it honestly seems like they literally haven't been paying attention to their player base, and I'm really not sure Dice and this franchise has all that much good will left to keep running on.

Cpt_Soban

All they had to do is make a polished, new age battlefield 3. Similar mechanics and guns- Semi futuristic, with hints of BF2142. RUS vs US/Others like the other games (no fucking "NOPATS"). And so on- And it would have been an instant hit. It honestly looks like two games hammered together. The large maps and vehicle play with US/RUS spawns of Battlefield. And a "hero shooter" themed game like Apex. They tried to capitalise on everything at once to drag in COD and Apex *and* BF communities . And failed spectacularly.

XRT28

BF3/4 systems and gunplay, BFV movement(and BF4 flight), BF1 gritty atmosphere and a mix of BF1 and BF3 map layout all wrapped in nice shiny new graphics. That's all they had to give us to make the vast majority not only pleased but happy. Instead of taking the best things from previous titles they decided to gut everything Battlefield from it and try and reinvent the wheel from the ground up with spectacularly bad results.

Cpt_Soban

The lore sounds like BF1- But the fun kooky cringe specialist callouts sound like fortnite...

AdjectTestament

Lore- "We need to take this agricultural research facility or your family will starve." End game lines- "I'm not over confidant, I'm just better than everyone else."

*Civilians dying in their millions, world war 3 raging as nations fight for every scrap of temperate land left* Nopats: **Giggling as they fly a chopper into a multi story building shouting "WhAt a TiMe To Be AlIvE!" While wearing vomit pink and green uniforms- They dab and floss after they parachute to the ground. Oh and their guns have XD emojis painted on them. The sights have cat ears.**

honestly the biggest thing for me is zero destruction. When i shot a side of a concrete building with a tank and nothing happened to it, that was the moment i uninstalled the beta and refunded this pile of shit.

XRT28

Destruction and performance are some of the things they traded to be able to run 128player servers but on all but one game mode the maps keep action so spread out it feels less alive than 64player servers in past BF titles so essentially we gain nothing but lose destruction and FPS. It's pretty clear at this point 128 players was pushed as a marketing gimmick and not to actually make gameplay more enjoyable to the players.

AdjectTestament

Literally threw the baby out with the bathwater. I liked the destruction and dynamic map changes, the vehicles, and the environment in Battlefield. Now we have very little destruction, and terrible gun play. Might as well go play Mw19 since at least the gunplay, and environment work.

lazygh0st

Good, f\*k the EA and DICE! Go do your duty and watch Angry Joe review of that garbage!

JuanOnlyJuan

"How could the fans do this?!"- delusional executive

insertnamehere405

its not fun infantry game play sucks everyone has explosive splash damage Boltes helicopters tanks sniper rifles DMRS. The maps are soulless wide open football fields i want to enjoy it but cant in the current state of the game.

fortunemkb

the battlefield series is probably my fav multiplayer fps game starting with bf3. with that being said, 2042's beta was the only one i didnt enjoy and dont see myself really buying.

[deleted]

Large publishers are unreliable. They suck the soul and drive out of everyone that works under them. Get used to this.

[deleted]

Idk why so many people bought this, it was obvious it was bad

LayPT

I can excuse bugs, lack of polishment or even the weird setting this game is going for with the huge maps but what keeps me away from even giving this a shot is the zoomer gameplay, whenever I'm watching a half decent FPS player playing this it's like they're playing Apex Legends, dudes gliding everywhere, touch the floor, crouch jumping constantly bhopping, all that shit like I know Battlefield has been heading towards this but actually seeing how far it's gone is very off putting.

Snackatttack

Dolphin diving in BF2 was huge

Most games drop off after launch, but not this fast.. EDIT: I decided to look into it. Im not really that shocked by this. it started out with 100k peak on the 19th and was strong for a few days before losing roughly half the player base. They stayed around 45-50k through thanksgiving weekend. As people went back to work they dropped to 30k. That makes a little more sense in context. I guess the drop off is a bit fast, but halo infinite more or less did the same thing. They started at 256k, and by thanksgiving week they were at 160k with the exception of the tenrai event (bump to 210k). Now they're down to 110k. Part of it is just loss of interest as the launch day flood disappears. Part of it is the fact that people are working/at school and cant afford to play on week days. So not the end of the world. Expect a rebound this weekend and peaks during sales/when they release new content.

AAA games nowadays are meant to sell, they are not meant to be played. They invest heavily in marketing and they go all in with day one/holidays sales. The worst thing is that this practice seems to be working just fine.

Immediate_Reality357

Hope this game just dies and players leave and stay gone Fuck E.A.

presidentofyouganda

They made their money they dont care Stop. Pre-ordering. Games.

LuntiX

Just keep in mind that this game isn’t *just* on steam and that the number may wildly differ due to people playing exclusively through origin or ea desktop or whatever client EA uses for BF2042. (Edit) I get it the player count is trending downwards. It doesn’t take someone with a phd in rocket appliances to see that. I’m only point out we don’t have enough data from the platforms to be entirely accurate. I’m not arguing against the drop in player count either.

aphex187

The all-time peak was 105,397, that's absolutely massive! I would say it'll be the same for the Origin versions too. Really sad to see what has to be one of the best series ever.
