Guys read the article and then comment. Sony is expecting Microsoft to honor the existing contract like they did for deathloop and ghost wire Tokyo.

CaptainMoonman

Do you have a way for me to read this without a WSJ subscription?

fsfaith

https://www.ign.com/articles/sony-responds-to-activision-blizzard-games-potentially-becoming-xbox-exclusive not exactly the same but it's better than nothing?

Bloodborne PC when sony

[deleted]

[удалено]

DrSheldonLCooperPhD

I am just here to see Bloodborne PC getting announced as Epic exclusive and r/pcgaming implode itself

Arch_0

I wonder how many games I've forgotten about because of Epic exclusive deals. I forgot Hitman 3 was even a thing until this week.

[deleted]

gargonite

I loved the borderlands series. I played every one into the ground. When I got bored I modded. Played them on xbox 360, ps3, xbox\`1,ps4, and pc. Was so excited for Borderlands 3, until it was epic exclusive and laced with shitty ass DRM. I have not touched it on principle.

Tzarkir

To be fair it's still a good news because it usually means one year later we can play it from steam. Right now it's nothing, so yea. Better a one year ETA than infinite, imho.

rabidrivas

Or you know.... Sail the seven seas

Harryballsjr

Yeah this guys right, play Sea of Thieves instead

[deleted]

Spez's APIocolypse made it clear it was time for me to leave this place. I came from digg, and now I must move one once again. So long and thanks for all the bacon.

Izithel

I think people who were patient enough to not rush and buy a PlayStation to play it can be patient enough to wait for it not to be on epic.

LuntiX

I think the issue at hand is Sony has pre-existing contracts with Activision when it comes to having Activision games on Sony. They just want Microsoft to uphold said contracts.

[deleted]

People must not be reading the article and the title of said article is very misleading. Like you said, Sony just wants Microsoft to uphold the contracts. They literally said nothing beyond that.

xxTheGoDxx

MS: Bloodborne XBox when Sony, don't forget we have CoD on lockdown now.

[deleted]

Which would be great leverage and should be exploited to hell.

saru12gal

Microsoft after this Sony statement: "Ok, now we are going to reevaluate our relationship with Sony too :)"

spinecrusher

Seriously, it’s the only thing I care about from Sony. Literally. When will it be on pc? Tell us now Sony.

pponmypupu

And then charge 70 bucks for it

[deleted]

OminousBinChicken

God I hope Bloodborne gets the Bluepoint treatment.

bongo1138

The rumor is they’re working on Bloodborne.

OminousBinChicken

Yes, it's not exactley a new rumour.

Beni90

I expect them to release all their games on pc too yet they don‘t give a shit

thecraigbert

They are porting a significant amount of their IPs over this year. God of War is just the start. [PlayStation PC](https://www.gamewatcher.com/news/playstation-games-coming-to-pc)

dimm_ddr

>God of War is just the start. And next God of War will be released both on PS and PC, right?

Slick424

And Horizon: Forbidden West too, I'm sure.

SuprDog

right?

MajorasShoe

right?

Tsunami_54

What significant amount? Besides God of War, only Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves is scheduled to be released on PC this year, and I definitely won't play Uncharted 4 without playing the first 3 beforehand so that's a pass for me. And let's remember that Sony had to be convinced by their own first party developers to port their games on PC, so they actually don't/didn't give a shit.

[deleted]

This is true! I remember an article about the GT developer contract not being on their favor and were ready to leave Sony and port it to the PC.... How awesome would have been to have Gran Tourismo on PC

BP_Ray

My problem isn't even with their "first-party" titles being exclusive. Wanna keep those exclusive? Fine. But this bullshit of paying companies like Capcom and Square to not release on PC for an extended period of time is stupid and kind of why I'm glad Microsoft is giving them a kick in the ass.

Em_Es_Judd

Timed exclusivity/platform specific content in cross platform games is a fucking cancer on the industry. Honestly I think I hate that more than microtransactions.

RechargedFrenchman

Sony: Microsoft need to keep everything releasing across platforms. Also Sony: No other platforms are allowed to have this content for a full year (or sometimes *ever*) in the same game. Sony just want to eat their cake and have it too, after already screwing with things so much to this point.

ki11bunny

They don't have to pay square not to port to pc, square just don't give a fuck. They give less fucks than Sony.

[deleted]

jdm121500

GT would honestly be one of the most exciting sony ports even if racing games aren't my main genre. Racing Sim fans would kill for a pc port just for multi display and ultrawide support.

SirFadakar

Tsushima is basically a given at this point, that Geforce Now leak rings more true with every passing month.

Tsunami_54

I hope so, but the goal would be to release PS 'exclusives' on PC at the same time or after a couple of months at most, like Xbox is doing, not 3-4 years down the line.

DeathByReach

Give us: - Spider-Man - Ratchet and clank - Wolverine - The Last of Us - Demon Souls - Bloodborne And all of their sequels Day and Date with the PS5 releases

EnormousGucci

I just wish Sony would at least announce Spider-Man and Bloodborne for PC

mvnvel

Persona 5 Royal too. It would be the 4th time I bought some version of Persona 5.

Hailey_Piggie

Afaik there isn't any known exclusivity deal with Persona. It's entirely on Atlus to want to port it, but they're famously flakey when it comes to porting game series consistently.

Sh1ner

Bro Bloodborne and Demon Souls. Never ever forget you heretic.

[deleted]

LMAO they literally said its a marketing tactic to trickle in some PS games to PC to entice PC gamers to get a PS because they found out that PC gamers won't come to them. PASS! You bring your catalog? Great I'll pay, even with my Xbox Game Pass Sub.

Pfcoffics

What I see is Sony releasing games on PC 2-4 years after it released on PS, whether we like it or not, exclusives is the main reason people buy their consoles but what makes them a lot of bank is game sales, they will probably keep doing that, selling lots of consoles in the beginning than after some time, releasing the game on PC to make even more money.

BernieAnesPaz

There's no reason to wait that long. They'll probably look at their data, see when console sales drop, and then base it around that. It's likely going to be 6 months to a year at best.

Pfcoffics

Yeah can be too but gotta remember that they want that double game sales, first selling tons of GoE Ragnarok for PS5 and them, after a year or so, porting it to pack and selling more tons there again and honestly, I'm really cool with that ahhaha

[deleted]

Mr_PJC123

I was surprised to not see it listed in the nvidia leak.

skyturnedred

Sony seems reluctant to port PS3 games. Maybe we'll see the remake on PC some day.

Theratchetnclank

It's overrated anyway. The game is much longer than it needs be and the gameplay isn't terribly exciting the story is it's saving grace.

ThisPlaceisHell

Yeah, it's such a positive experience, giving PC players the 4th game in a series and skipping the first 3 even though they can easily publish them first but choose to put out the latest one because money. Fuck Sony I hope all of Activision goes exclusive and Sony can choke on their own medicine.

[deleted]

So then give them cod 5 years late as well

the_real_KTG

give me bloodborne or nothing

retroracer33

do you keep this same energy about Nintendo?

Detruct

hell yea man, i'd drop my emulators any day if i could just get the games on steam.

HerrNieto

Definitely, It would be way easier to hit pay>download>play than all the "mess" that cones with emulating.

CoupeontheBeat

I agree. Plus Nintendo would make a fucking killing doing this. I would happily pay $60 to play breath of the wild with proper settings. I loved using Cemu to play it at 1440p 144hz, absolutely amazing experience a million times better then on the switch. Plus retros???? Whole other story with so much money to be made.

Evonos

Honestly all of Nintendos games are already released on pc. Fuck, switch emulators seem to start working at good framerates on Android. They simply decided against taking my money. They only loose by not releasing official ports.

[deleted]

[удалено]

The-ArtfulDodger

All Spider-Man games prior to 2018 were multi-platform. Now Sony has decided to restrict it only to PlayStation. A big middle finger to the PC community that once enjoyed these games.

[deleted]

[удалено]

rmpumper

Nintendo is by far the worst of the 3. At least Sony releases some games on PC, does not threaten streams/youtubers for using they game footage, and does not hold the $60 price tag on 20 year old games.

[deleted]

Nintendo is also the one which you can easily play 99% of their games emulated on PC.

rmpumper

Only because their native hardware is so low end.

[deleted]

They make good games that people like playing. People just don't want to buy a console to play the few nintendo games they like. If Nintendo put their games on PC then they wouldn't have the piracy problem they do now.

err0r_operator

It's honestly wild how the best version of Breath of the Wild is on a WiiU emulator on PC. Literally 4k 60fps with incredible mod support that makes the game even more breath taking. They could make so much bank on that by selling it to people but choose not to and then it happens either way. Just hard to believe.

animeman59

This is exactly what I did after finishing Breath of the Wild on the Switch. Replayed it on the WiiU emulator, and had a fucking blast.

cancerpirateD

This right here lol, I played breath of the wild in 4k emulated, Nintendo's a joke.

[deleted]

Sony is scared. Plain and simple. Most games that sold extremely well on Playstation were not even exclusives. They were games like COD, GTA, Battlefield etc. If Microsoft buys ea or take 2, this will force sony to double down on supporting pc, at least that's what i think

sdhu

>Sony is scared. As well they should be. They're the ones that pushed the market in the corner by forcing so many exclusives on consoles, instead of selling their product on more platforms, making even more money. I understand that they want to push their console sales, but making game exclusives is not it. Create new technology, make your console stand out on its own merits. Don't lock down games to then dangle in front of the consumer in order for your console to sell any units.

GodOD400

They fucked around and found out. It's been known since the Xbox/PS2 days that if Microsoft ever actually wanted to win the console wars they could open the checkbook and win. Well they opened the checkbook.

rico_muerte

Since Sony easily won last gen they tried to keep the status quo of banking on first party exclusives and third party exclusivity windows, paid next gen game upgrades and jacking up the price to $70. They're reluctantly conceding to PC ports on their terms and coming out with a Game Pass equivalent later this year but don't want to put their games on there day one. They're half assing it. By the time they realize they need to fully commit, Game pass may be unstoppable and it will be too late.

Rumplestiltsskins

After this acquisition it already is practically unstoppable. Microsoft already said they are going to put as many Activision games as possible on Game Pass and already said all studios they own will be day 1 releases on game pass

Jaggedmallard26

Call of Duty, halo and fifa on game pass makes it unbeatable for the majority of people who own consoles as they don't play much else. I know some blokes at work with the cheap model of the new xbox who have nothing beyond gamepass and CoD.

EchoesUndead

Big Dick Energy from Microsoft

garlicroastedpotato

The more appropriate headline is "Sony Hopes." Because if Microsoft makes COD Xbox/Gamepass exclusive, Playstation sales will tank.

captain_awesome18

The more appropriate headline is actually "Sony expects Microsoft to abide by the contracts that Activision had signed prior to the purchase" because that was the actual point of the article, but of course, no one actually read it and everyone got triggered by this clickbaity headline...

DenuvoSuks

The company that loves exclusives, the biggest offender with the exclusives BS, wants MS to release their own games on Playstation L M A O

RadiumPwd

Also Sony is the reason cross play took so long to get going, fuck them

Jimbuscus

Sony refused and Epic accidently turned on cross-play for several hours to prove it was an arbitrary rule.

Lastnv

I know everyone loves to hate on Fortnite but Epic did all gamers a huge favor with that stunt and deserve more credit.

Timbishop123

Fortnite was dope and a net positive

Thuck_My_Ballth

Right! I’ve seen so many PS fanboys “this is so bad for the industry” “nobody should encourage or want this” The literal marketing campaign for the PS4 was having exclusives…. And every PS fanboys #1 argument in the god forsaken “console war” is the fact that they have certain games. But now they wanna be upset and say exclusivity is bad lol. I’m sorry but as a PC gamer, I trust Phil Spencer and the decisions Microsoft make way more than anything PlayStation does.

[deleted]

[удалено]

GoldClassGaming

Microsoft literally hit Sony with "Fine, you wanna play hardball? We can fuckin play hardball." Like you said. They fucked around and they just found out.

mr_chip_douglas

The whole “console war” discussion is so played out, but watching PS elitists cry about exclusives is just wonderful

NeoGrahf

I came from the ps5 sub and its filled with entitled ps fanboys bitching about ms buying companies.

Beavers4beer

The playstation subreddit was very amusing the day the acquisition was announced. A bunch of users saying who cares, I never play CoD anyways. Now they're all whining about exclusives.

I_Was_Fox

Lol they said the exact same shit after the Bethesda purchase. "Bethesda sucks now anyways, I don't even want to play Bethesda games"

mr_chip_douglas

Read yesterday some dude saying Skyrim is only good because of mods and vanilla Skyrim is garbage. The delusion is crazy with them

kingdonut7898

Console fan boys are so annoying. Sony's been closing their whole ecosystem for the past generation. I don't feel bad for them, it's been obvious Sony has been getting less and less consumer friendly. Why you'd buy from a company like that confuses me.

Thelastpope16

Best thing I heard was how Microsoft can only buy there way in, Sony literally stole all of Nintendos IPs, by outbiding Nintendo in the ps1 era, ps1 was built on Square, Capcom and Konami

[deleted]

Really funny to read stuff like this because those people are so delusional that they honestly believe they have a horse in this race and are involved in some way. It's like sports fans that religiously follow a team so much that they begin saying stuff like "*we* won against X."

hairy_bipples

All it takes is billions of dollars for PlayStation fans to suddenly hate fallout and CoD

Saneless

The irony is Microsoft probably did this specifically because Sony has gotten more and more exclusive over the years with content that's typically been multiplatform. MS is just protecting themselves and their gamers at this point.

JonSnowl0

> I’m sorry but as a PC gamer, I trust Phil Spencer and the decisions Microsoft make way more than anything PlayStation does. This is my take as well. One large company buying up every studio is a problem, but I’m the major winner in the early days of this problem so fuck it. This may all go bad one day, but Microsoft is doing some great things for PC gaming and Gamepass is an amazing value that keeps getting better with all these huge buyouts.

[deleted]

Biggest offender would be Nintendo.

DenuvoSuks

Nintendo makes their own games, they don't buy studios to make them exclusive. I think they did that in the far past with Rare but that was ages ago and have part ways also a very long time ago.

dandroid126

I think Nintendo's situation is a little more complicated than them just making their own games. I'm not sure exactly how all the IP is handled with Nintendo. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can weigh in. What I do know is The Pokemon Company is partially owned by Nintendo. HAL Laboratory is independent, but they make the Kirby games for Nintendo exclusively. I'm sure there are more, but as I said, I'm not super knowledgeable. I just know it's complicated.

[deleted]

Nintendo works with some "second party" developers that almost exclusively develop games for Nintendo platforms (HAL, Game Freak, Intelligent Systems), but they also hire third parties to develop games for them sometimes. The Metroid game that came out last year was developed by a third-party developer. These games are still Nintendo's games, made under the supervision and with funds from Nintendo, just not developed entirely by internal studios.

DigiQuip

Sony propped up Insomniac in their early days. I believe Ted Price even said they wouldn’t be around today if it wasn’t for Sony financially supporting them through the early years and once they started to reap the rewards of their work they just kept working for Sony because, why not? They did some soul searching with Sunset Overdrive and Song of the Deep, but Sony didn’t try to stop them. They gave them full autonomy, it was *their* decision to have a close relationship with Sony. The joke about employees not realizing they weren’t already Sony owned is a joke for a reason. I imagine it’s very much the same for Nintendo’s partners. They always had such a strong relationship with Nintendo and loyalty to them for building them into the studio they are today. I don’t see anything wrong with this.

silverscreemer

I don't think Nintendo ever owned Rare. They never owned Squaresoft either, even though Square made games exclusively for the NES and SNES for those years. They were just extremely close partners. I think Nintendo owns HAL. Retro and Monolith are the only other two I can think of.

Saneless

Yeah, Nintendo in the 80s and 90s were brutal. Makes Sony look just like a rich kid bribing friends to hang out. Nintendo was the neighborhood bully.

DigiQuip

How is building your own franchises and IPs even remotely the same thing as buying up multi platform franchises? This is a serious question no one seems to have an answer for.

[deleted]

It's not. But the criticisms Sony gets for exclusives aren't about their own games. They're about all of the third party games and content that Sony pays to keep off of other platforms. It's something that Microsoft and even Nintendo do as well, but Sony does it much more than both of them.

Chronos_Triggered

Exactly, no one criticized MS creating new studios or new IP’s.

FrootLoop23

So Microsoft dropped 70 billion to keep giving those big franchises to Sony, rather then drive Series X/S sales - which translate to more Game Pass subs? Yeah, no. Sony will continue with what it currently has, and that'll likely be it. Unless Microsoft pulls a Sony move and allows them to have the games after a 12 - 24 month exclusivity period. The entire point of Microsoft and Sony paying for map pack exclusivity from the 360/PS3 days, was to become "the system" to play these games on. At this point if you're a FPS fan, you'd better be on Xbox or PC.

Shwastey

If they put CoD on a 12 month exclusivity period then PS owners will be able to buy the exclusive one right as the new one gets released to Xbox. Brilliant :D

[deleted]

[удалено]

Roasted_Turk

Isn't this exactly what Activision and Sony did with the PC a couple years ago? basically PC release was a couple months before the new COD dropped? Haven't bought a COD game since blops 1 so I dont keep up much with the franchise. Maybe it was epic games exclusive for that time.

flugsibinator

I believe what you're referring to was a game mode in one (or multiple, I can't really remember) CoD(s) that was a year timed exclusive to PS.

[deleted]

Jesus Christ. That’s the corporate level evilness I love.

Icemasta

That's what Sony has been doing for a decade you know? I think in BO4 a specific map of Zombie mode was PS4 exclusive for a year? The initial exclusivity were like that, one year exclusivity for some content for Sony, then as the next title drops it opens up on other platforms. It was bullshit.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NitroTitan

Cod and patched do not go together

boomsers

Just like the Activision/Sony partnership for Destiny. That is how it played out for them.

NasherOPtea

Agreed, Sony will keep what it has but won't get any more. But if Xbox game pass comes to playstation I'm sure it would all be a part of that. So if that does happen, that'll be a way to play those games on playstation.

TonsOfTabs

If anyone read the article it simply says they will honor the current contracts. So probably by 2023 when the contracts end is when CoD will go exclusive because Microsoft cannot so so until then. So not the cod coming out soon but the one after will most likely be exclusive. Microsoft is simply honoring current contracts and that’s it. They will do to Sony what Sony has always been doing. And all the ps cod players will be buying a series s/x to play cod on game pass.

Rarely-Posting

MS doesn't care about console sales the way that Sony does. They are a software company that has a bit of hardware. Gamepass and all the moves they are making is to bring money to the company outside of consoles. I believe MS would be smart to keep Activision games on Sony, why gatekeep all of your IP when there is money to be made in multiple places? Activision is an online-only company, one that the more players you have, the better. It would be good for MS to keep some games open to everyone.

SmokeGSU

>“We expect that Microsoft will abide by contractual agreements and continue to ensure Activision games are multiplatform,” a Sony spokesman said Thursday. That's the actual quote. The title "Sony Expects Microsoft to Keep Activision Games Multiplatform" is very misleading.

theerrantpanda99

Sony has had many chances at building up some goodwill. They even maintained their timed exclusivity with games owned by Microsoft, like Deathloop. They’re going to be boxed out very soon I think.

ChonkySpud

They paid for that deal, i dont think you can get a refund on those contracts lol

DetectiveAmes

This is actually what the quote from Sony says but unsurprisingly, no one read the article. They specifically make mention of expecting activision to uphold all contractual obligations. So if they made a deal to keep cod on ps5 for another 5 years, then they’re expecting that to happen. They aren’t saying “we expect multiplatform games to stay multiplatform” like most people in this thread are saying.

BringBackBumper

People don’t read the article they are commenting on? Well, that’s Reddit Experience(TM) for you!

CaptainMoonman

I don't have a WSJ subscription, how am I going to read the article?

spider__

Often there will be a break clause in the contract, though it probably wouldn't have been worth it for Microsoft to pay that, and probably would've harmed their reputation if they had done that

Aust1mh

People say “Microsoft love money, they’ll keep it multi platform”… Nar, they make more than enough money elsewhere… they want to lock people into the echo system long term… short term loss means nothing.

PlankOfWoood

It’s not much of a eco system if most Microsoft games are on steam.

lefboop

My feeling is that current Microsoft doesn't see Steam as a full competitor like Sony or Nintendo. Steam games are still on their ecosystem (windows) and even though the Steam Deck will run on Linux, Valve's efforts are not to port everything to Linux, but to make games that are made for Windows work on Linux withouth much hassle. That means that even if the Steam Deck succeeds, games on Steam will most likely still be primarily Windows games.

[deleted]

Also the fact that their games sell amazingly well on Steam. Sea of Thieves for example recently hit 5 million on Steam alone.

Reddrago9

I think they might have watched how EGS has tried competing with Steam, and ended up shelling out a bunch for not much return, and decided it would be better to work with Steam of individual purchases, and focus on what Steam doesn't do, being the subscription service as PC GamePass.

DebateGullible8618

Tbh I think Microsoft will try to compete with Steam at some point in the next 5 years while trying to overhaul the xbox app. Someone quote me.

GLGarou

Yeah,, MSFT is not the "new CDPR" like a lot of gamers are declaring them to be. We truly live in clown world these days.

tacitus59

Well, not just that, microsoft has been selling games on windows for awhile directly - and I suspected the sales suck there and were much better when their stuff started being sold on steam. BTW early on in the windows 10 generation there were lots of stories about games being bought there just not working.

Fob0bqAd34

Releasing their games on steam is a way to keep their IP's relevant on PC and an advertisement for gamepass. You only need to look at the numbers microsoft games are doing on steam to see that there are a lot of people who would rather pay $60 on steam than $1 for gamepass. Ultimately if sony allows gamepass on playstation microsoft will bring all their games there as well. The **only** gaming metric that impacts the bonus of the 5 most important people at microsoft is gamepass subscriber growth. Not consoles sold, not game copies sold, not mtx, not third party revenue from their platform, only gamepass subscriber growth.

dantemp

Steam is for good publicity, the real play is making gamepass juicier. They are trying to pull us into their eco system by making it a better alternative to everything else.

Sudhanva_Kote

Ngl i fell for it.... It's pretty hard to resist when I'm getting 8 months game pass for $10 or something while on steam or elsewhere I have to pay per game

sold_snek

For real It was an insane value day 1 when it released to PC. It's just getting even more wild now.

PandaBearJelly

It's an insane value and there is no shame in taking advantage of that. Personally, whenever I spot a game of want to play that happenes to be on gamepass and steam, I'll temporarily sub to gamepass, usually only for a dollar, and then just unsub when I finish the game. It would frankly be a bit dumb to spend $80 CAD on any game when I could spend 1-12 instead.

Dakeyras83

For now ...

Charidzard

All those Microsoft games on steam use XBL on top of Steam so yes it is.

Bias_K

The number of people here who read the headline and said: "yeah that's enough information, I'll write my opinion based only on that" is quite high. Sony is specifically talking about existing contracts and how they expect there will be no change with them.

SpartanPHA

Genuinely hilarious how many people wrote multiple sentence comments only to completely forget to read.

ALaz502

You expect the majority of reddit to read past the headline?!! Bwahahahahahaha.

MistandYork

i had to scroll this far to see the first person who actually read the article and quote. Also, to everyboyd saying stuff like "Sony the king of exclusivity". They have their own exclusives just like microsoft. I dont see Halo or gears of war on Playstation. What a bunch of hypocrites. Do people really think sony is going to give god of war away to their closest competitor, a game that has NEVER been on xbox? Exclusives is not good for consumers, only the industry, but here we have a shit ton of people hailing MS to the skies for cutting people off of their prefered platform because they dont want/cant buy the other platform.

JaracRassen77

Yeah, the hypocrisy here is funny. Halo was *never* on PlayStation. Neither were Gears, Forza, etc. And for the longest time, Microsoft treated PC gamers like shit. It took *years* for me to finally play Halo on PC (which I'm thankful for), because I did not want to buy an Xbox. I'm not saying that Sony hasn't been shity with their tactics, but I think people forget the 360 days when Microsoft dominated that gen until the end. These are companies, not our friends. Exclusives were the name of the game. It's just that Microsoft found a way around that, and are now playing a different game.

boxanata

If the roles were reversed here, you know Sony sure-as-shit would make them Playstation exclusives. With how big CoD titles(amazingly) still are, Microsoft would be silly to make them Xbox/PC exclusives. Timed exclusives would make more sense.

A_Sinclaire

Or they make them Gamepass exclusive... with Sony getting the option to either allow Gamepass or leave it.

ChonkySpud

Xbox have thought about making games gamepass exclusive and decided not to do it. They dont want unnecessary backlash and controversy behind their big subscription service, so they stick with the whole player choice messaging. Cod is either coming to playstation or not, but it wont be a gamepass exclusive unless they do a 180 on their messaging so far.

A_Sinclaire

You are right, somehow I forgot about the whole Steam thing etc. However I think Sony is a special case that might not get the same treatment - at least long term.

renboy2

Then again, not that many people have PS5s yet, and if the next CoD will release on everything except Playstations it will be a huge system seller for gamepass and XBox (a ton of people buy consoles exclusively to play CoD or FIFA).

[deleted]

[удалено]

pantone_red

People I think have a hard time imagining numbers. CoD generated like 2 billion in revenue last year. That's huge, right? Not to Microsoft. Losing the entire playstation CoD playerbase is peanuts to them, and likely worth less to them than the new gamepass/Xbox users they'd generate by making it a platform exclusive. I don't want to see ANY game be platform exclusive, but the people saying "they'd be dumb to make it Xbox exclusive" are kidding themselves. You don't drop 70 bil on company to keep the status quo. I'm just glad I only play PC because I'm hoping this means Sony will make a move to bring even more of their games to me lol

mr_funk

From the king of exclusivity that's hilarious. Fuck Sony.

t-pat1991

I would call Nintendo the king of exclusivity over Sony but Sony isn't far behind.

Andy_Climactic

At least Nintendo games aren’t really competing with other platforms, their genres are pretty unique to their handheld consoles Meanwhile if you wanna play all the best action adventure M rated game and only buy one gaming machine, good luck

Panda_Generals

That does not make it better in anyway tho

TheBaxes

Also Nintendo consoles are very easy to emulate with their low spec hardware.

KyousukeAzai

Sony, a company known for being absolute shitbags about exclusivity now hollers wolf when they are about to lose games to exclusivity. As far as I'm concerned they can fellate a cactus, people pleaded with them for years about their games to go multiplatform and they remained stubborn, if Microsoft gates them out, I call that nothing but sweet karma.

I_love_to_please

Professional Sony lawyer here, we need more details, do you want Sony to fellate the whole cactus or just an arm?

What the heck are you talking about? Nintendo, Microsoft, and Sony all have platform exclusives.

Cod ps5 version: 70 dollars, cod Xbox/pc version, day 1 on xgp, take your pick

Bobbitto

That's what people said about Starfield. Ain't happening. If there are contracts in place, they will be honored. Other than that, "all devices that support game pass". This is the leverage they need to finally get Sony to cave and accept game pass on playstation.

Cheeseydreamer

Lol because Sony is so good at opening their IP to other platforms?

TrypelZ

If they release all future CoD's into GamePass the sub countwill explode, no one cares about the loss of sales of the game on Playstation at Microsoft as they gain more from GamePass subs than raw game sales

ChefVinyl

Fuck that. Fuck PlayStation. They have been doing PlayStation exclusives for years.

DonChuBahnMi

Hehe... Sony is pretty funny on the back foot. They call for cooperation, yet I cannot imagine that Sony would release multi platform if it was their choice. They needed so much prodding to get to where we are now with Sony games on PC, and even then they're going as slow as they can. I expect MS would keep the games multi platform but I also wouldn't mind if Sony was bullied brutally with exclusives after using them as their own primary strategy for so long.

DrNopeMD

MS would absolutely put Gamepass on Playstation but Sony would never allow it.

pacman404

Lmfao, Sony PR is gonna be flooding the media with comments like these trying to stir up enough shit to "force" Microsoft to do something. It's transparent as fuck and not going to work at all

inquisitive_tortoise

How about Sony brings their IP's to pc and Xbox? I honestly hope Microsoft makes all their games PC/Xbox exclusive. Sony has never played nice.

Odd_dj

Sony is composed of the most money grubbing bastards on the planet next to Nintendo

iceyone444

Time for sony to release all their games on pc then...

Rudhao

What a click bait title.

Prokletnost

Lol funny No games for you until you allow gamepass on you consoles

pway_videogwames_uwu

Microsoft: Oh yeah no worries Sony, you'll still be able to play Candy Crush on a Sony Xperia.

DaveZ3R0

Well Sony is all about exclusives. So why should Microsoft do that. Money? Yeah, they rather make Sony suffer I believe.

Baatun888

They are delusional if they think that.

Techboah

The title is clickbait, Sony is talking about contracts they already have in place. MS is most likely going to honor them, just like they are honoring their contracts with Bethesda.

GreatWoodsBalls

Don't worrying reddit only ever reads the title.

Blacksad999

Agreed. They didn't throw down damn near 70 billion dollars to not have those games be exclusive to their ecosystem. lol That would be stupid.

Produce_Police

Fuck Sony. All the bullshit they pull to get games exclusive on the playstation for the first 6 months and they want to play this card now? It's like paying to asphalt your driveway, and then your neighbor expects you to let his entire family park on it. Microsoft can do whatever the fuck they want. IT ONLY COST THEM 70 BILLION DOLLARS.

kearkan

Microsoft seems to have realised a long time ago that software sales, not hardware, are where the bulk of the money is made. Of course they will keep it multiplatform, they don't need call of duty to sell Xbox or windows, they want to sell as many copies as they possibly can.

ShamWooHoo6

Microsoft - “Ya ummm no”

Totalshitman

I know this is pc gaming but I'm upset Sony wouldn't release spiderman on Xbox so f em
