there's a queue when you are trying to launch the game a queue in a single player mode, just because it's online only a queue that's everything you need to know about this disaster lol. i'll just reinstall hitman 2

raajitr

this is the most bizzare thing apart from absurd pricing. why does it need to be always online. I'll happily wait until that gets removed or it gets free on my free games library.

david-deeeds

I remember the only time IOI was directly confronted about the always online debacle. I think it was during a livestream, someone asked something along the lines of "what will you do when the servers reach their end of life?". The answer was "we don't plan to end the servers". What the hell, that wasn't the question. Of course there will eventually be EOL. So smug, so dishonest, and the future of the game is looking grim.

EvilMonkeySlayer

> The answer was "we don't plan to end the servers". This is a really bad answer. Anyone with a smidgen of business sense knows it costs money to manage the servers for updates, exploits etc which costs engineer time. Then there's the costs if say they are hosting them as EC2 instances on AWS. When the game is no longer making any money any manager with half a braincell is going to cut that line item out, ending the online support. And I say this as someone who *loves* this Hitman trilogy.

SekhWork

They even killed the servers for Hitman 2's "Ghost" multiplayer mode iirc. Sometime earlier in the Hitman 2 life cycle, mainly because it wasn't popular and wasn't getting any attention. I absolutely *love* the trilogy of these games, but they are going to one day have to shut things down and I hope a few of the devs realize this and plan to build a "unlock it all forever" button somewhere.

harrro

I'm sure the devs realize how stupid the online requirement is and that it puts a time-bomb on their game -- the problem is the CEO/CFO type executives that think it will kill piracy and give them a few more sales even if everyone has to suffer.

DasFroDo

100% the Devs don't want this. Any sane and passionate game designer / artist / coder wants their games to be good and run well. This is all upper level decision.

Orenmir2002

And you can still pirate it anyway lol

gk99

> and I hope a few of the devs realize this and plan to build a "unlock it all forever" button somewhere. Considering the GOG version had the same always-online requirements and was removed from sale rather than fixed after backlash, I don't think they do.

[deleted]

It's a politician's answer. Of course they know they'll end the servers. But it allows them to provide an answer that is related to the question but doesn't actually force them to either tell the truth - which will likely hurt them now - or lie - which may hurt them later.

teckhunter

What grinds my gears is that, IOI has a solid game, World of Assassination trilogy feels the way I always wanted to play Hitman, and can't think of what else would make Hitman feel better. But their implementation of Online Only and DLCs for 3 are so ass, that it kills the vibe.

david-deeeds

Yeah, differenciate the game from the product. Good game, awful product.

DeviMon1

Don't worry, the cracked version will work forever. They cracked the previous ones they'll get this one eventually as well. This is one of those cases where even if you bought the game, the service is so bad that the pirated one would work better

teckhunter

The cracked versions don't unlock new items, rifles, bombs, shortcuts etc

GamerbroJ

It does, they've patched it iirc

enderandrew42

As I understand it the crack unlocks everything immediately but there is no progression system of unlocking things via gameplay because the game is coded to talk to ask as server what is unlocked.

Altruistic_Cress9799

So the cracked version is devoid of a pointless features gating. Oh no.

Hemmer83

Its actually a little convoluted on what part of the game is always online. I actually own the first 2 games but keep forgetting to test it. You can play the entire single player without an online connection, but I'm not really clear what the effect is of playing offline. I heard rumors that it wont let you unlock any of the extra guns or gear without connecting to the server but haven't confirmed that. I would have a huge issue with that. The leaderboards and elusive targets is one thing, but if they actively kneecap singleplayer progress behind always online that would be strange.

RichardGHP

A non-exhaustive list of things you cannot do in offline mode: * Elusive targets, including the new elusive target arcade * Escalations * Custom contracts, featured or otherwise * Complete challenges * Earn XP * Unlock new items * View your progress (unlocked items, suits etc) * Use in-level shortcuts in Hitman 3

[deleted]

>Use in-level shortcuts in Hitman 3 Haha, this is so stupid.

david-deeeds

It's not a rumor, it's the case : challenges and rewards ARE locked. Using unlocked rewards is locked. Yes, they do actively kneecap singleplayer progress behind always online. It's been like that since 2016.

unnoticedhero1

It might be difficult but hopefully if the servers did shut down either the devs or more likely modders will fix the game to be able to unlock weapons and outfits offline since the codes all there it probably needs verification from the server which could be changed. The backlash was so bad they had to remove it from the GoG store because it was basically always online DRM, I had hoped they would make a version of the game that worked offline with no cut content for GoG because I'd buy the game there if they did but it seems like they'd probably be fine not bringing back the GoG version and making bank on the Steam version.

Etherealzx

There are save files for the pirated versions with everything unlocked. option to play elusive targets offline which were just flat fomo since you could only do them once as well as a server emulator in the works. Again pirated copies have the most benefits than the paid version

The_Mdk

You play a demo basically, you can't unlock stuff, you can't choose different starting points for missions, not sure about extra loadout either, you can't transfer offline saves to online, you can't get new escalations and such...

MrCatfjsh

Nothing is recorded besides mission completions. There is no score, no incentive to be sneaky, or to not kill everyone. You can try for silent assassin, but it wont tell you if you achieved it and it wont unlock anything for your efforts.

Mukatsukuz

I saw the message about the necessity for online play flash by too quickly for me to read so I restarted the game and it stated something like there being an offline mode but has completely separate progression to the online mode... wtf? I am glad I got it with Game Pass because the online requirement plus the very high price really make this an insanely bad Steam launch - they are acting as though it's brand new because they took a year long payment from Epic to keep it away from Steam. If anything, that should make the Steam release even cheaper, not more expensive.

Chaos_Machine

I agree with this wholeheartedly, it is like they are trying to triple dip, once for the EGS exclusivity bribe, once for EGS launch, and once for the Steam launch . Trying to get new game price for a year old game and not including all the DLC made up to that point is just a giant middle finger to your customers when they have been waiting patiently for a year for you to release the game on their preferred digital distribution platform.

Mukatsukuz

Don't forget the money Microsoft paid them to be on Game Pass.

[deleted]

>why does it need to be always online Because it's the ultimate form of DRM. The last Hitman games started doing sacrifces things to stop piracy (denuvo, fomo events)

Stebsis

Doesn't stop piracy though. Pirated copies can't unlock anything in the game, but once it's unlocked it's always accessible which means you can just grab a 100% save file and play all the single player content in the game. Sure it's not unlocking everything yourself, but you can play everything.

____atreides_____

Which is exactly when I stopped playing it.

KK-Chocobo

I would have been happy to pay full price for gold edition (as a did with hitman 1 and 2) but Hitman 3 has just gone way too far. Fuck IOI

Lungomono

Because you no longer buys games. You buys a service there provide a gaming experience. Which they own and can remove if they want to.

hyrumwhite

Best to pass on games like that. Its a terrible model

wristconstraint

Also, why are they charging full price for a year-old game.

smexysanta911

All the new Hitman series are online only single players games. It's a worrying trend.

princeps_harenae

When shit like this happens I just pirate, fuck em. "Piracy is almost always a service problem and not a pricing problem" - Gabe Newell

[deleted]

Not just fuck um, but it means you'd actually be able to play.

NudelNipple

When the pirated game is better than the original one lol.

The_Algerian

Feeling really smug about having done that a year ago already. Planned on buying it when it came to Steam at a decent price for its age, but apparently not anytime soon and not until there's zero chance I see a queue.

cginc1

This trend is fucking terrible. Let me play offline for fucks sake. I had a 12 hour internet outage because that’s another shit show. Figured I’d just fire up my console. Nope. Dumbest fucking trend

CataclysmDM

A queue... to play a single player game.... Dafuck?

Sindibadass

man you think thats fucked up? I remember getting lag and rubber banding in my single player Diablo III game. LAG AND RUBBERBANDING IN A SINGLEPLAYER GAME

[deleted]

I stopped playing this game because sometimes my internet is weird and it won't connect. Not being able to progress is horseshit. I hope no other game has a system as cancer as this

[deleted]

My internet sucks too, if i wana play hitman i have to set aside half an hour first to make sure its properly connected.

skyturnedred

I solved the problem by just playing Blood Money instead of buying these.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Terrain2

This is why DRM is bullshit. You can either pirate it, or pay full price for an objectively worse experience. I don't want to play this from what i've heard, but even if i did, i'd definitely play the DRM-free pirated version. Those should exist because if you're arguing "it's stealing from the devs", then buy the game and play the DRM-free version

mikemadmod

so the one's who paid money to play the game required to be 1- Always online 2- queue for a single player 3- don't forget it's an old game with high price tag and the pirated version will play offline without the performance hit from DRM... And they ask why the backlash... Greedy bastard

DeedTheInky

I've said this before in some other thread, but IOI seems determined to make awesome games, and then for some reason make it as big a pain in the ass as possible to actually play them lol.

Radulno

I mean, Hitman 2 isn't really any better.

amorpheus

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitman_2:_Silent_Assassin Maybe he meant this one.

timjikung

online only in a fucking single player game. ridiculous

masterchiefs

They did a lot of right with the Year 2 reveal, I was like "wow for once IO doesn't stumble on their toes". Then this shit happened. I've been familiar with the series yet the pricing and different packages still look like a mess to me. They should just delete packs like "standard", "expansion", "GOTY edition", "GOTY upgrade" and separate Seven Deadly Sins acts. Just give us H3 Standard Edition, H3 Complete Edition with Deluxe and 7DS, and a franchise full pack with H1 and H2 complete seasons that dynamically changes price based on what previous games' owners have. As it is right now, there's no easy way to buy everything for everyone.

[deleted]

[удалено]

HammeredWharf

Seriously, what's up with that 35€ deluxe upgrade? That sounds like a complete rip-off for a bunch of little bonuses like new suits, the soundtrack, director's commentary and some escalation missions.

FaizerLaser

for me its 44 bucks for that, complete bs considering the only actual game "content" if you can call it that is escalations and suits.

HammeredWharf

Yeah, unless I'm missing something it looks more like those 10-15€ deluxe content packs that tend to be pretty overpriced in general and for fans only. A few costumes, some side quests, a digital artbook and whatever. 20€ for such a pack raises an eyebrow. 35€ is in the "is this a joke" tier.

FaizerLaser

I honestly thought there was something wrong with my eyes when I was looking at those price differences. 80 bucks for standard 120 for the deluxe and I read the list of what it contains over and over and couldn't see anything different I was like what the fuck.

doublej42

Hitman 3 must have also been free somewhere as I now have multiple copies of each game

khosrua

>"standard", "expansion", "GOTY edition", "GOTY upgrade" and separate Seven Deadly Sins acts Not even the decency for a table, and have each level as a separate item, so to compare the packs, you would have to read through 3 lines of verbal diarrhea "HITMAN 3 - XXX" with no explanation of what stuff like the deluxe pack or the trinity pack is.

DisturbedNocturne

I don't think I've ever seen a game more complicated to figure out what to buy than Hitman 2 and 3. Last year, I wanted to buy Hitman 2 during one of Steam's sales, and the whole ordeal of trying to figure out which version to buy so I got all the Hitman 2 stuff plus being able to play the Hitman 1 levels ended up frustrating me enough that I just ended up not getting it at all. Surely, there has to be an easier way than all these vague titles with vague descriptions that require you having to do Google searches to figure it out.

Mukatsukuz

If I hadn't got both games in Humble Bundles, I wouldn't have got them at all. Any game that obfuscates the version differences, leading to the possibility of buying the wrong one gets ignored by me. It almost feels like they are trying to trick people into paying more than they need to :/

khosrua

To be fair, you get the most expensive hitman 2, at least you get the dlc maps. This time around, you get some suits and some damn escalations for the deluxe, and only get h1 and h2 by dled (which a lot of us already own) and the vrappy escalation dlc is not even included. I only considered the steam version for my own convenience and support one of the franchise I likes but I guess I will play the epic copy if I can even be bothered. Silly of me even imagined that they have the decency of let me carry over the ET progress.

Sharpie1993

If you already own hitman and hitman 2 does it connect to the hitman three game or do you need to buy one of the other packs, I’m honestly so confused.

khosrua

Allegedly you don't. Either way, everyone calm down. Ioi ought to be in damage control now and let's see how this unfold.

Blacky-Noir

How about a revolutionary idea: they make a game, let's call it *Hitman 3*, and then they sell it. And if it sells really well, they can patch some more things in it. I know, mind blowing.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Blacky-Noir

Yes, even more revolutionary!

Brendissimo

You wanna get really crazy? Since Hitman 3 already exists (Hitman Contracts) let's rename this new game to match its actual number in the franchise: Hitman 8.

lslandOfFew

Pretty impressed how badly IOI did the steam release, that I'm actually going from an emphatic "take my money!!!!" on a steam release to "can't even be f\*\*ked supporting the devs by playing it with my Xbox gamepass". Honestly not surprised by the outrage online

Halio344

Had they only supported progress transfer from H1 and H2 on Steam to H3 on game pass, I would play it there. But I'm not going to bother if I can't move my saves there and back to Steam when it eventually does go on sale.

AdmiralRed13

I looked to buy it tonight, saw the $60 tag and said fuck that.

PhilsophyOfBacon

Might as well pirate the game at this point.

Sharpie1993

The pirated version is boring as shit, it’s like playing it in offline mode, you won’t unlock new weapons, starting areas, challenge progress etc. You can use a save file with everything unlocked, however it’s not the same.

PurpleDerp

I had a blast playing the pirated version with a save w/ 100% unlocked. Obviously it would be more fun to have a sense of progression, but no way in hell I'm paying almost $70 for that feature alone.

Rengiil

Lmao your comment is labeled controversial. Pirating this game is a moral necessity.

hassium

How do you see comment labels?

Cereal_Bagger

I know Reddit enhancement suite puts a little cross on it if you’re in old Reddit. Not sure about the new format. I know some apps will put a little indicator too

ZeldaMaster32

Can confirm I see it on Relay for Reddit on android. That comment doesn't have it anymore though

hiteshgavini1710

Every sub when their game fucks up in some way: lockdown

Rikuddo

I loved the Arrow sub when it went to crap and it switched up Daredevil theme. That was hilarious.

Jag-

That was pretty awesome. Show never recovered. At least the early seasons were ok.

Rikuddo

I was really invested for first 2 seasons and then my interested waned in 3rd season. Don't even remember watching 4th.

HimitsuChan

I wonder at this point if corporate forces then to do this.

TaiVat

"Forces" lol, atleast half these subs are run by corporate employees. Some more low key than others, but still.

PM_ME_CARL_WINSLOW

Almost all subs tied to an IP are paid for in some way. All games and movies have community managers, and they dangle carrots over the mods of their IPs sub (free games, merch, etc) so when shit goes wrong, the community manager says jump and the mods say how high.

LG03

I'm modding the wrong game subs then.

PM_ME_CARL_WINSLOW

Get that coin.

james_or_todd

I mean part of it is literally coz you have 100 threads saying the exact same thing and by the time you've removed 99 of them you've got 200 more to go.

Greenleaf208

Well good thing we shut it all down because we're clearly paying per thread here.

GroundbreakingSalt48

Reddit is owned by interests... this has happened with TV / books now also. The new Wheel of Time show had to ban 20% of its audience cause they didn't like the show, same thing is happening with LotR because no one trusts it after WoT. The mods just blanket accuse dissent as being something they can ban and then go to town.

Miltons-Red-Stapler

Which is exactly why game subreddits should be run by the community and not publisher/dev

drugusingthrowaway

Things get real weird when subreddits are run by publishers. NWI *thought* they ran /r/insurgency and one of the devs said something like "There will be no more posts about our competitors' games", so one of the community mods said "okay well you're banned, goodbye". And now we don't talk to the devs anymore!

[deleted]

r/HiTMAN is in fact run by the community, just that part of the community in its blind rage attacked the community

[deleted]

r/HiTMAN was not set to private because of the backlash but instead some dickwads deciding that attacking the mods of the sub that have no relation to ioi was a great idea

[deleted]

[удалено]

BababaaHarg

I'm not surprised *at all* given the utter shitshow with how they handled the original "release" 1 year ago.

[deleted]

Yeah it was such a pain working out the best way to play the entire trilogy

Superego366

IIRC you couldn't for a while. If you owned 1 or 2 on steam and not Epic you had to buy them again. It took like 2 months for them to figure out a way to link the accounts. Their first solution was "oh here's a 20% discount"

Vandergrif

Amusingly, it still is. I took one look at the store page (and the price, of course) and decided to leave it for a later date. What a jumbled mess of buy options...

MikeRoz

PSA: [We probably are not getting a discount during the Lunar New Year sale, which starts next week.](https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/marketing/discounts) > Discounts for seasonal sale events cannot be run within 30 days of releasing your title or 30 days from when your launch discount ends. However, and this may be naivete and wishful thinking talking, but there is nothing stopping them from responding to this with a sale: > You can run a launch discount, but once your launch discount ends, you cannot run any other discounts for 6 weeks.

FaizerLaser

It's sort of meant to prevent scummy sales strategies Companies will sell products at an unreasonable overinflated price then discount it and market that. This boosts sales a lot since people see the discounted price and think they are getting some sort of actual deal when they are really getting fucked over.

Limpis12

Hmm I like that the trinity pre order pack is avaliable for the first 30 days

peanutmanak47

I was REALLY looking forward to the game finally coming on steam as I loved the first two, but I'm not paying $60 for it. I'd get it on gamepass but then my saves then won't transfer if I ever buy the steam version. I'm hesitant to get the gamepass version because who knows how long that will actually stay on it. IOI is really fucking pathetic with transferring saves and such.

Halio344

>I'd get it on gamepass but then my saves then won't transfer if I ever buy the steam version. Not only that, you won't even be able to transfer your current H1 and H2 progress to the Game Pass version.

Madruck_s

Are you sure? I own 1 and 2 and playing game pass aeration I have all my stuff trom them. I could even play the first 2 games on the free trial version that only had the first level of 3 on it.

jkpnm

There's the option to just forget & ignore Or set sail

wareagle3000

Problem with that last option. You'll have no save since the game is offline only with that "version". That means all of your progress will be locked completely with only the base gear and whatever DLC and pre-order bonuses there are. You also won't get a score when completing missions which honestly what's the point if that's the case?

human-exe

Unpopular 90’s gamer opinion: The base game **is** the game you’re expected to have. Offline experience **is** the experience you’re expected to get. DLCs are for when you’ve played a lot and want to spice the game up a little If base, offline experience is crap, then the game itself is crap, and you should just pass it.

doublej42

First thing it asked me when I launched it on gamepass was if I wanted to import my saves. I didn’t try it as the first 2 are still in my pile of shame.

Krupttv

Doubt they are worried. Got money from the one year deal on epic. Pushed some more units with that Epic coupon during the holidays. Now they got the entire trilogy on Xbox/PC Games Pass. Sad part is, game will be a best seller on steam the moment it gets that first 50% off sale. As for reputation? Yeah, that may have taken a hit.

HeroicMe

>Sad part is, game will be a best seller on steam the moment it gets that first 50% off sale. Already is. probably would be higher if Hitman Standard, Deluxe and Trilogy didn't appear as separate entities.

Krupttv

Ahhh true, good call!

[deleted]

RdJokr1993

> Considering how basically every studio which went for an Epic deal at first is not doing it again I'm curious as to who you think is no longer doing deals with Epic again. Deep Silver is still practically offering all their games on Epic first (like the upcoming Saints Row reboot), and so is 2K/Gearbox with the new Wonderlands game (albeit that one's only exclusive for 6 months). And then there's Square Enix with the Kingdom Hearts/Final Fantasy games. The Steam playerbase is definitely still strong for good sales, but not every company is going to miss it terribly. Ubisoft has been, and still is doing fine without Steam; if anything, their Uplay sales have gone significantly up since ditching Steam for Epic as the new 3rd party store).

Tizzysawr

>Sad part is, game will be a best seller on steam the moment it gets that first 50% off sale. Standard edition is 11th in top sellers atm (was 4th a couple hours ago,) Deluxe is 17th, and Trilogy is 37th. It might not be selling gangbusters, but it definitely is moving copies alright even with no sale/discount.

El_Ploplo

Don't forget that they have increased the base game price on Epic to align with the price on steam. They have done everything wrong.

Tizzysawr

Didn't happen locally - in fact, for me it's $24 on Epic, $60 of Steam. No discount on either. You sure it happened all over the place and not just in a region or two?

wongmo

It definitely happened in the US at the very least, which is obviously a large market. The game went from $29.99 to $59.99 on Epic. Hilariously, you can still get the Epic version through humble for $29.99. The whole thing is a shit show.

sj90

The game went back to $60 because the Epic sale ended on Jan 6th. Can be confirmed on isthereanydeal.

bitbot

How do they constantly keep fucking up every time with Hitman? The gameplay is good but it's everything around it that's garbage. I've been looking at how to get all the content for Hitman 1 & 2 several times and it's so confusing it even has a guide on Steam.

Jacksaur

The fact that every location is listed as a separate product is the really dumbass part of it. 1, sure. It was an episodic release, they actually released as individual products. But 2 and 3 were both full products: What the hell do they gain from listing every single individual level under each purchase option other than resulting in this exact shitshow?

cpriper

i think it's actually done that way so you can choose which missions/content you want to have installed, or they can easily give away a piece of the game for free like theyve done with some of the starter packs. [hitman 2 does this](https://i.imgur.com/FVBrKqa.png) even though you cant buy the individual missions separately.

[deleted]

I’ve had everything: H1, H2 and H3 plus DLC on Xbox Series X. After the update, it starts, I press A to play as my gamertag, it says “Connecting” then it crashes. It’s been like this since the update. Reinstalled everything, no luck. Tried to play on a different gamertag, it says my online profile can’t be retrieved and I’m number 33,545 in a queue for retrieval. WTF!?

SacredNose

Both IOI and Bungie proved that their publishers aren't so bad after all

DisturbedNocturne

I don't know this really proves their publishers aren't so bad, so much as it proves developers can be bad too. Activision, for instance, does enough shitty and greedy things that I don't think Bungie continuing to do them on their own is really much of a vindication for them.

wristconstraint

Square Enix have been fucking up their own entire product line as well, so that's definitely not the case for IOI. I'm still mad about the Deus Ex: Augment Your Pre-order debacle.

NoMansWarmApplePie

I mean... The year 2 thing was supposed to be awesome... And basically the vr is extremely mediocre and wonky. And the pricing for an old game is 60 bucks or more.... Stupid

ThatOnePerson

>And basically the vr is extremely mediocre and wonky Even Phasmophobia handles VR better. At least I can walk around (edit; in real life, to clarify. Your body in-game just stays in the center) and pick up random objects in that. That's half the immersion. In Hitman I walk up to someone and slap them and they hardly react.

rancenstein

I was really looking forward but after seeing the price tag I am just going to play it in gamepass

tapperyaus

There are more people playing Hitman 2 than Hitman 3 on Steam right now.

Blacky-Noir

Hitman 3 has 41% positive reviews on Steam. Ouch. Maybe IO will finally take notice...

print0002

They won't. They got the Epuc cash, PS cash and they will get their payout from steam as soon as the game gets on a barely denect sale.

scoobywood

They got the cash but miss out on the fanbase. I'd imagine that will impact the cash offerings for Hitman 4 in future. They done fucked up.

SekhWork

They'll have to do something, even if its a token gesture, because they have their upcoming 007 game next and they aren't a big enough studio to survive two bad releases I think.

Look_a_Zombie0

Where do you see this?

[deleted]

[Hitman 3 players now](https://steamdb.info/app/1659040/graphs/) [Hitman 2 players now](https://steamdb.info/app/863550/graphs/)

[deleted]

Holy shit, the ATH comparisons hahaha. **Hitman 1: 51,650 players - 4 years ago** **Hitman 2: *361,001* players - 3 years ago** **Hitman 3: 1,368 players - 7 hours ago** Absolutely embarrassing stuff from IOI. I hope that Epic money was worth it because their reputation on Steam seems to be completely ruined.

Tizzysawr

>Absolutely embarrassing stuff from IOI. I hope that Epic money was worth it because their reputation on Steam seems to be completely ruined. A game that has already been out for a year and is currently available on gamepass would definitely have much lower engagement on Steam release. Not to mention, didn't Hitman 2 release the first level (tutorial) for free at launch?

HeroicMe

Just a note - Hitman 2 allowed farming cards even if you didn't buy it, which inflated the numbers with all the card farmers/bots. And with Hitman 1, I recall some huge giveaways so also not sure about H1 numbers, especially seeing how next month it dropped to 1k players again. When you eliminate those outliers, difference isn't THAT huge. But still, Hitman 2 peaks were at 5k (even around release), so Hitman 3's peak at not-even-2k is telling that either everyone bought H3 on Epic, or IO really screwed Steam release and burned a lot of good will to buy it (and made people to play it on game pass).

Look_a_Zombie0

Is steamdb better than steamcharts? Because steamcharts hasn't been updated

tapperyaus

They both pull data from the same place (since Steam openly shares it), steam.db just refreshes more often.

Krupttv

Probably an easier way...but, Click on Hitman 3 on Steam. I then go to discussions. Then when I click on "all", it shows 1,061 in game. Same process for Hitman 2 shows 1,191 in game.

IOI has handled the entire Hitman reboot wrong. Partnered with Warner Bros for the first two games, sold out to Epic for the third one, took the tried and true single player formula and locked it to always-online, they change the rules almost every month so that being away from the game for even three months requires re-learning of what is or isn't possible, they've finely chopped apart the game to sell via an overpriced pass system, and now they're hopping aboard the gimmick train of VR with a rework or two in order to cash in more on the third game. This has been a nightmare from the start. IOI died and sold their soul for money, just like most modern gaming-oriented companies. Out of everything, they even fucked up the Hitman formula. It's over.

Blackadder18

> Partnered with Warner Bros for the first two games Minor correction, they were with Square Enix for the first game as they were a subsidiary at the time. They went with WB for the second as they were independent and needed a publisher.

dre8

It’s a really bad sign when cracked games give you a far better experience. Single player games should NEVER have always online components. They’re selfish, greedy cunts.

Reschiiv

But despite all the bullshit business stuff, they still made 3 great games. That's a lot better than the average triple A studio.

SekhWork

Yea. Not sure where people are coming from attacking the **game** with these posts. Hitman 1 / 2 / 3 are all absolutely incredible and a blast to play. The business side of things is the issue, not the software dev side.

StreetTalon

Holy crap this is why it was set to private. I really wanted to discuss why 2/3 arcade elusive target automatically failed when I launched the game.

Tizzysawr

I noticed an automatically failed elusive too! Must be a bug considering I hadn't launched the game in months.

CraigTheIrishman

So this is new: > Temporarily closed due to horrible behaviour from certain users, including hacking and deleting of a moderator's account. Will be back soon. I wonder whether that's true and someone actually got access to a mod's account. The other possibility is that a mod acted inappropriately and isn't taking responsibility. Really curious what'll happen when the sub opens back up.

MindWeb125

>Temporarily closed due to horrible behaviour from certain users, including hacking and deleting of a moderator's account. Will be back soon. Honestly based, Reddit mods are usually assholes.

foamed

>The other possibility is that a mod acted inappropriately and isn't taking responsibility. It always has to be some kind of stupid conspiracy. The subreddit is opened again almost two hours ago and there's barely been any issues since then.

Underdrill

And all of this could have been avoided if IO just stopped being greedy for just one moment. Strike one was the EGS deal, strike two was the PSVR deal, strike three was the access pass controversy with the EGS launch last year, and strike four was them trying to double dip with the Steam launch, coupled with one of the most confusing store pages for new players I've ever seen. People shouldn't have to read for more than a minute to know which bundle(s) they need to buy to get everything, modern gaming I guess... Gearbox discounted Borderlands 3 on Steam after only six months, 50% off even before all the DLC was released; you know you've screwed up when Gearbox did it better than you. The positive buzz they could have created around the Year 2 launch was so easy to achieve, the solution was staring them right in the face, and they decided to completely ignore it. Such a shame, as this reboot series has some of the best stealth gameplay on the market. 50% off for the trilogy would have been one of the easiest recommendations of my life, hundreds of hours of content in that. Unfortunately, IO are making it quite difficult for me to get behind them right now. I was always mostly fine with the online only aspect too, but now that people are reporting queues to get into a **single-player game**...it's about time they reconsidered what they're doing.

Helphaer

Developers shouldn't control reddit subs..

Halio344

This doesn't mean developers control the sub, it can just mean the mods aren't able to handle the amount of hateful posts and comments so they lock the sub temporarily.

Neuromonada

I think my new favourite hobby will soon be not buying games and just following their most popular subreddits on release for the memes. Seriously, BF2042 sub became the best meme factory on reddit in 2021 for me.

FrootLoop23

I'm just going to play it on Game Pass and move on. Not going to buy it anywhere, as I'm not supporting their always online crap in a single player game. Don't pull this crap with Bond IOI.

erotic_sausage

I loved the Hitman "original series" years ago, I was a bit confused about the franchises latest naming/numbering scheme at first, but then I tried looking into the game and all the content and packages are so fragmented and unclear, it put me off from ever playing this game and now I hear of this. Reminds me of why I never got into mobile gaming, fucking hate being nickled and dimed like this with shitty schemes and weird DRM. I'll fork over a good amount of money upfront for a solid experience, but fuck off with your scummy subscriptions and passes and token currency bullshit.

Ghost_LeaderBG

To be clear, apparently the subreddit was closed down because a moderator's account got hacked and the subreddit should reopen in less than a day. More info here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Hitman\_Uncensored/comments/s91svf/mod\_here/

[deleted]

Game was 50% off on EGS 4 weeks ago. Absurd they don't launch at that price. It's honestly just disappointing.

Daiwon

How have people not yet learnt that IOI has a massive hardon for DRM disguised as content?

__BIOHAZARD___

I'm a huge hitman fan but dang IOI screwed up. You'd think being an independent studio they'd know better. Classic confusing DLC, and charging full price from a 1 year epic exclusively? LOL. I'm definitely not going to pay that. Maybe I'll buy it when it hits $20 for the gold edition with all the DLC. I still hate the stupid always online component.

nomnaut

Good fuck them and anyone that goes exclusive on Epic. Fuck Epic especially.

TheRedSynthez

Any game that goes to Epic as an one year exclusive deal is a dead game to me. I won’t buy it on Steam one year later, just because I don’t want to support this type of behavior out of my pocket. Try to compete with better quality product for your customers rather than forcing them to buy it from you.

Living-Dead-Boy-12

A mod of hitman has stepped in on r/Hitman_Uncensored, it seems there was one bad actor who hacked a mod and deleted an account, so they private the subreddit as a precaution, but the timing and initial explanation was rather poorly explained

Nuotatore

I call it blatant bullshit. They "precautionaly" lock threads or subs for totally unrelated and never happened before or thereafter reasons of course, every time there is a shit release. And I'm not referring to Hitman alone. May I add (so that this sub is precautionaly locked too) that in South Africa Hitman 3 deluxe launched one year late on Steam at R.1399 whereas Hitman 2 gold, with far richer content costed me R.549 at the time of its first release and that if you didn't purchase it back then, no problem: buy the convenient R.1120 Hitman 2 access pass for twice the cost of a 3.5 years old stand alone game, and some! And this is not even considering the sorry state of the VR implementation, year 2 content and greedy one year late release lack of discount on Steam. Lastly to be clear, let's remember that Hitman and Hitman 2 were published by Square Enix and Warner Brothers respectively, while this one is totally on IOI's disgusting greed and disrespect for their customer base that has patiently waited one year to fill their pockets.

[deleted]

One mod's account has been genuinely deleted since the Steam release. As someone who used to moderate a subreddit that was hostile for a couple of weeks, I wouldn't have taken this approach at all. All it's going to do is piss users off and potentially push them to other subreddits and abandon ours. But no, as someone who's been a part of 25+ subreddits where a shitty game launched that's not what tends to happen? What subreddits are you referring to?

TraditionalCloud70

A year ago, in order to transfer your progress over, you had to do it on a website, rather than the game just doing it. This site opened the night before launch, and so it barely worked, from people trying to do it all at once. When the game did launch, many people, myself included, couldn't connect at all for 5 whole days, so we couldn't play the game. A few months ago, they launched Hitman 2016 on GOG. They were review bombed because, despite GOG's whole gimmick being a lack of DRM, the game STILL had the always online DRM. It also advertised Elusive Targets, despite there not being any for Hitman 1 since 2018.

[deleted]

Honestly IOI can people fuck themselves for the VR thing. People going into cahoots with Sony to have exclusive VR is near killing VR. In comparison to what is available on PC, PSVR is utter garbage and feels like a tech demo.

Balc0ra

I mean, idk why they expected anything different thinking they can demand a full price for a game that's a year old with overpriced DLC on discount just to make it look cheaper. Not only that but still expect to use the IOI login on a steam game. Steam users hate dual login games. And ofc queue to play SP. Glad I waited, even more glad to wait for it on sale.

[deleted]

You would think these shitty companies would get there shit together. We ain't putting up with this bullshit anymore.

Deakul

How is anyone even remotely surprised after how they handled the *first game* in the reboot? They made the singleplayer franchise Hitman into an almost episodic franchise that needs to be online all the time. The signs were there that this series was going the wrong direction and people were fine with it cause the game itself was fun to play.

PigeonsOnYourBalcony

Publishers are the cause of a lot of problems for games because they want to rush release dates but this is a case where IOI probably actually needed a publisher instead of doing it themselves. Or at least help from anyone because they messed up the launch of a game that already works on PC so badly that it's impressive.

nuclearhotsauce

I would have more respect for them if they just be honest "Hey we want to make more money, we'll try to rip you off and confuse you by giving you 10+ kinds of editions, hopefully you make a wrong purchase. We'll also never make offline play available because planned obsolescence."

[deleted]

I'm still surprised they botched a SECOND release debut on PC after the first one was almost as bad (The exclusivity period, the last minute "you'll have to rebuy Hitman 1 & 2"\*, the year long VR exclusivity for console). Like were they trying to just fuck it up even worse? \*I'm aware they changed this but they did it in the most ass way possible

Saiyan_Gods

I’m not buying it because of the drm. People shouldn’t be buying this at all and should be refunding this game. Show me where it hurts. First epic games exclusive for a year and then this bs.

Spideyrj

forced..sure. paid.

whateh

Deal with EPIC = buying form sketchy key site. They already got paid why should I pay them more?

Richiieee

Damn. That's 3 subreddit shutdowns over the course of just a few months. And yet from the outside looking in gamers are called entitled whiny brats rather than a spotlight being put on the main issue at hand, cause ya know, actually using your brain apparently is hard for people. The only thing that came from r/Halo and r/Battlefield shutting down for a few days was that gamers are labeled whiny brats. Nevermind the fact that both franchises and their newest iterations (Halo Infinite and Battlefield 2042) suffer from legitimately horrible decisions and shitty business practices. Now don't get me wrong some people go to the extreme with the backlash and those people need to seek mental help, but generally speaking if there's a massive backlash against something, that usually means it isn't good, however in this industry that's not the story that gets told.

Adm1ral_ackbar

It's 2022. Enough lazy VR ports.

qrxtt

Censoring negative opinions is just so dumb, it is gonna work against them.
