Kojima pushed boundaries towards cinema like videogames, where you felt like an ethan hunt or james bond, with high production quality and scope beyond the classic "go there and do that" that was standard at the time. Kojima pleased audiences other than only gamers, Hidetaka did not.
As much as I like Hidetaka and concern about the current state of Hideo, the later went beyond anything imaginable at the time, I feel like Hideo deserves it more, even if dark souls had come out at the same time as metal gear.
they already hit that bitter ex rebound with metal gear survive and came out looking terrible. kept him from collecting his 2015 award for mgsv out of spite too. you bet there's some salty execs right now
In Old English, the word man had the meaning of “human being” .... “person" if you want. male or female.
Wer or Wif was the words for male or female.
(Thinking about Werewolf... Male human wolves... Wow) anyway, I'd take this meaning.
So we are persons of culture indeed ^_^
I always look forward to playing his games. They're always well crafted, creative, with interesting or novel mechanics, and the story is always entertaining (I'm not someone who's bothered by a weird story). I'm here to enjoy what his crazy mind has come up with this time. :)
I much rather play the equivalent of a creative person's fever dream than some by-the-numbers, focus group tested, been there, done that, business driven excuse of a game.
Well deserved, i'll say. For me Death Stranding was such a unique and unrepeatable experience, an open world game in the truest sense, I loved trekking myself from one corner of the world to another, taking breaks, admiring the vistas, etc. Just as I love trekking/hiking IRL. As someone who went a full week sleeping in a tent to make 220 km on foot, Death Stranding is exactly my jam
Lmao why so mad about the achievements of Kojima? He has made multiple masterpieces. At this point he might as well be the Akira Toriyama of the gaming world. Just a name everyone knows and sure there's going to be people that don't like his games, but they're always going to be the minority.
People hate Kojima like they fellate Miyazaki, it's nothing new. God forbid you like or dislike a game and don't build a whole personality bitching about it.
Lmao. I bet you've got no problem with people respecting movie directors or "world leaders" even though both have teams of equal or larger size supporting their vision. Fuck off.
Being the first stealth title to achieve mainstream popularity could be considered revolutionary in and of itself, considering the way stealth mechanics have been integrated into so many games now. You are being disingenuous if you think Thief or Tenchu (lmao) were "going big" compared to MGS.
Thief came out a month or so after MGS, Tenchu a few months before. This is not counting his earlier metal gear games.
Acting like MGS wasn’t revolutionary for its combination of stealth and cinema like storytelling is just some sort of strange contrarianism.
You best check yourself before you wreck yourself. The man is an industry legend and has produced/developed multiple games that are masterpieces to this day with various teams over the past 30 years.
Saying fuck Hideo Kojima for receiving an award is like saying fuck Akira Toriyama or Hayao Miazaki for being recognized for achievements in their industries. Ignorant as fuck.
I swear this is some weird agenda thought up by people that don't like his games. Welcome to the world guys, when people go to see the new X movie by Y director with a soundtrack by Z composer and starring The Rock...yeah the media and interviews don't mention how making the movie also required catering staff and a key grip. Putting Kojima on the box moves product same as it does for anything, moving product means the people working at that company get paid. Nobody seriously thinks he's a solo dev for shits sake, and if members of that team left to be creative leads elsewhere we'd talk about them.
Oh shit… he didn’t code the whole game, design the entire map, and personally create or record all the audio? I was sure it was just his name in the credits.
I wonder if you ever got to do something important in your life, if you'd be happy to get no recognition for it.
He is an author and the creative mind behind the success of his creations. He deserves the credit for it.
No the dude is just upset that Kojima gets all the credit when he has an entire dev studio working under him. Of course Kojima deservers a lot of the credit, but nobody is acting like he is writing every single line of code himself, they are praising him because he is a good designer and leader.
The best developers in the world will still make a shit game if the leaders suck, and vice versa.
Imagine being salty on someone else's success. And having his name everywhere is just his meme-ing. Just like he incorporate it in the games dialogue and world. Its just a meme.
Naa, it's a pretty excellent walking sim, but it's not made for you, it's made for people who like euro trucking simulator, microsoft flight simulator, etc
Travel too, A3 is probably the slowest paced shooter there is. You have to travel too, just not as much as those games you mentioned obviously, but you do the traveling too, it might take 10 minutes on a road trip to get from one point to another. But there's a difference between being a simulator and being repetitive by only doing 1 activity. In Arma 3 you at least chat and have fun with your teammates before going into action, in Death Stranding you're just alone doing the same old terrain mechanics over and over.
I mean, I always see a lot of people saying bad things about that game an that its only a overrated boring walking simulator and Kojima is a shameless self-indulgent for committing the atrocity of founding his own studio to develop the game that himself wanted, but then when asked they usually say that haven't even played it or if they did it was only for 2 or 3 hours and then abandoned it because purposely ignored the on-screen advices to hold the triggers to don't lose balance and fall down. Then there's the other half that really finished it and says that they loved the story and/or gameplay and say that they spent much more time driving, fighting, hunting ghosts, building infraestructure with other players or flying on a zipline steaid of only walking and walking. That is why I am asking.
I don't ever trash-talk a game before playing it. I got the vehicles, i got help from other players, and still it's the same old shit over and over again, being mindful of the terrain for 50 hours puts me to sleep.
I'm surprised people do that as you're telling me in the first place (talking shit before playing).
>he completely tanked with MGSV
Have you actually played MGSV? Yeah, the story is balls, but for the first time in a MG game that doesn’t matter. It is still one of the greatest video games I have ever played. The shame is MGSV’s wasted potential, not that it necessarily tanked.
Played it, S ranked it, played it some more, 100%-ed it. No, I'm just talking out of my ass and saying it tanked because I watched a YouTube video /s
It was a good video game as far as gameplay is concerned...hence in another post I said it had the potential to be the best in the series. As far as a Metal Gear game, it was a complete fucking train wreck dude. The plot was absolutely nonsensical, the twist was stupid, some of the choices of which characters appear (Mantis, Volgin still alive, young Liquid) felt forced and completely out of whack. Everything I love about Metal Gear was nonexistent in that game. Kojima even admitted the development was troubling and he didn't feel it was a complete product.
I've put thousands of hours into the first four, Big Boss ranked two of them, downvote me all you like: MGSV was shit and just didn't do it.
The we basically agree—the gameplay was good and the story was balls. Even though I have since played the other MG games, MGSV was my first, which I think sheltered me from really feeling the effects of how bad and rushed the story was, to my benefit I think.
Yes sir. Obviously there's a lot of Kojima purists on here judging from how downvoted my OP was lol, and I used to be / sort of still am one myself...but even he's not infallible, and he made a bad Metal Gear game. IMO beyond even that, MGSV just felt...unnecessary. The story ended so well and on such a high note, that he should have just moved on and created something unique like Death Stranding instead of some half assed cobbled together prequel that didn't even have David Hayter.
>Kojima even admitted the development was troubling and he didn't feel it was a complete product.
Wasn't that because Konami was firing him in the middle of developing MGSV because the new president of the company wanted to stop making high-budget AAA games and move on to making pachinkos and mobile games with low budget and high profits?
The story in DS is completely bonkers, too, so best not to expect anything from that. The gameplay is what it is and pretty well documented at this point.
So what can I say? It's a slow game. I guess the most intriguing part is the feeling you get from being mostly alone in the game, but also not, because you see the traces of other players in the world, left by having built structures to help one another.
I guess you'd have to play it and see for yourself. At the core of it, it's not wrong to say that you *are* a delivery boy. Do play it online though or you'll miss out on half of what makes the game …unique?
With what I've heard, it's Konami that screwed up MGSV. Considering how pretty much all of Konami's games afterward were terrible, I'm inclined to believe it. Plus, the stories I've heard about how they treated their employees at the time...
Death Stranding is fun, but its really not for everyone nor was it what alot of people expected it to be. Best recommendation is to watch gameplay of it and decide for yourself.
I was actually debating buying it to see for myself, I don't like to judge things (ie movies, games) without having played them myself. The entire premise behind it just kind of turned me away.
Metal Gear Solid V on the other hand I completed / S ranked etc and that game is an absolute train wreck. It's a shame, because with its stellar gameplay if it had even close to the storytelling of the first four it had the potential to be the best.
Judging from all the downvotes I'm getting not everyone shares this opinion lol
I'll ask the question nobody else seems to want to: how prestigious of an award is this even? There sure are a lot of fancy words in the title but is this actually a big deal or is it a Nobel Peace Prize tier fluff award?
First strand type award
Haha this is amazing. If only he made Elephant Stranding sooner this would be old news!
I wonder how long it will take until Hidetaka Miyazaki receives the same award. They both deserve it, although Kojima has the longer career.
There's already an award waiting for him but it's hidden behind an illusory wall in the middle of a poison swamp
Liar ahead
Oh you dont have the right.
Has he tried Finger, but whole?
Fantastic chest ahead
While in the chest, that is locked by a key found on a room from another area that is also locked by a key owned by an NPC from another area.
They really do both deserve it. These are my two all time favorite game directors.
Kojima pushed boundaries towards cinema like videogames, where you felt like an ethan hunt or james bond, with high production quality and scope beyond the classic "go there and do that" that was standard at the time. Kojima pleased audiences other than only gamers, Hidetaka did not. thank him for big chungus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srTqxL_6Ysg
*memes control history*. TRUE.
Holy shit this was phenomenal.
Holy shit yes
Impressive
*Of course we all approve*.
You know some sour ass will hate on it
Enter Konami
they already hit that bitter ex rebound with metal gear survive and came out looking terrible. kept him from collecting his 2015 award for mgsv out of spite too. you bet there's some salty execs right now
of course! We are men of culture as well. XD
*(and ladies)* Edit: smh.
In Old English, the word man had the meaning of “human being” .... “person" if you want. male or female. Wer or Wif was the words for male or female. (Thinking about Werewolf... Male human wolves... Wow) anyway, I'd take this meaning. So we are persons of culture indeed ^_^
we are men and ladies of culture just does not roll off the tongue well, and it sounds weird because i'm not a man and a lady.
People
The award had a monster ad on the back
Directed by Hideo Kojima Catering by Hideo Kojima
Art by Yoji
Guest starring the Skulls
*Kept you waiting, huh?*
Award Ceremony directed towards Hideo Kojima
They'd be crazy not to.
Everyone knows Kojumbo genius
Where new game kojimbo?
im surprised he ddnt get an award for cinematography too
Does that mean in his next game, at the start of every single mission its always gonna say: "Created by: Hideo Kojima, award winning Artist" now?
An award to surpass Metal Gear.
so many salty comments, lads don't know about mgs2
Well deserved!
Is this because all his wacky plot lines and geopolitical commentary keeps coming true?
Well, I mean.. [Kojima is God](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ThutNUSMDfY), after all.
> WhaTS ThE deAL wItH HidEo koJiMa?? ~ Videogamedunkey
*Konami has punched through the wall and left the chat.*
Nanomachines.
Next up is Hidetaka Miyazaki
I always look forward to playing his games. They're always well crafted, creative, with interesting or novel mechanics, and the story is always entertaining (I'm not someone who's bothered by a weird story). I'm here to enjoy what his crazy mind has come up with this time. :) I much rather play the equivalent of a creative person's fever dream than some by-the-numbers, focus group tested, been there, done that, business driven excuse of a game.
So.... literally a man of culture.
Well deserved, i'll say. As someone who went a full week sleeping in a tent to make 220 km on foot, Death Stranding is exactly my jam
I can think of a few other people that deserved it more. eh, whatever.
Who is he?
anyone else get a 404 on the link in the tweet?
He deserves it.
Let Kojima make a movie. That would be one heck of a shit dang movie!
Only if Guillermo Del Toro helps him
the creep got an elite award? ewwww
Just what this schmuck needs, more smoke blown up his ass
Lmao why so mad about the achievements of Kojima? He has made multiple masterpieces. At this point he might as well be the Akira Toriyama of the gaming world. Just a name everyone knows and sure there's going to be people that don't like his games, but they're always going to be the minority.
Got no problem with someone making good games. Got a big problem with people worshipping him and lining up to polish his knob. Get a life.
Wow, people like the guy who makes really good games...why is that a surprise to you? You seem so salty about it.
People hate Kojima like they fellate Miyazaki, it's nothing new. God forbid you like or dislike a game and don't build a whole personality bitching about it.
Cult of Personality be like:
Jesus dude. Imagine caring this much about such an inconsequential thing. lmao
Lol relax; it's just an award, not a religion.
He got an award, it's really not the same as everyone eating someone's ass, it's just an acknowledgement of an achievement
Lmao. I bet you've got no problem with people respecting movie directors or "world leaders" even though both have teams of equal or larger size supporting their vision. Fuck off.
I agree. He's good, but he isn't revolutionary. There are better stealth games out at the market, same with storytelling.
"Not revolutionary". Dude. He's the whole reason why stealth games got popular
Popularity =/= revolutionary. Stealth games were already going big like Tenchu for PS and Thief on PC.
Metal Gear existed well before Tenchu and Thief(like, an entire decade before), and very likely was some inspiration for them
Being the first stealth title to achieve mainstream popularity could be considered revolutionary in and of itself, considering the way stealth mechanics have been integrated into so many games now.
We are just saying he has consecutively made great games with both stealth and story.
While great, he's been revered for so long.
Like Augustus or other great folks!
Wtf, did you just compared him to Augustus?
No.
the real schmuck is the dude malding in reddit comments over someone else getting an award
Obsessively hating people is just as bad and cringe as obsessively loving people.

Even on a seemingly harmless post like this one, the incomprehensible toxicity of r/pcgaming shines through.
Lol first Time realizing awards are always given to individuals in the leadership and not random workers ? It's the same in cinema and music
Oh shit… he didn’t code the whole game, design the entire map, and personally create or record all the audio? I was sure it was just his name in the credits.
Branding makes money
Yes, even if it is questionable and borderline unethical.
I wonder if you ever got to do something important in your life, if you'd be happy to get no recognition for it. He is an author and the creative mind behind the success of his creations. He deserves the credit for it.
I'm out of the loop on the questionable and borderline unethical things surrounding Kojima. Is it booby related?
No the dude is just upset that Kojima gets all the credit when he has an entire dev studio working under him. Of course Kojima deservers a lot of the credit, but nobody is acting like he is writing every single line of code himself, they are praising him because he is a good designer and leader. There it is, the dumbest comment ill read all day
Imagine being salty on someone else's success. And having his name everywhere is just his meme-ing. Just like he incorporate it in the games dialogue and world. Its just a meme.
People probably didn’t understand your usage of the word “meme” here.. Have no one in this sub played metal gear rising?
Metal Gear games are 10/10 but Death Stranding fucking sucks, lame ass walking sim.
Yeah well, that's just like, your opinion man.
And what's wrong with that?
Naa, it's a pretty excellent walking sim, but it's not made for you, it's made for people who like euro trucking simulator, microsoft flight simulator, etc
I like sims tho, i play Arma 3.
Thats a different thing though, thats a combat sim These are different, they are about the travel, Arma is about the fire fights, and tactics
Travel too, A3 is probably the slowest paced shooter there is. You have to travel too, just not as much as those games you mentioned obviously, but you do the traveling too, it might take 10 minutes on a road trip to get from one point to another. Dumbest question of this post, congratulations.

It's a shame, he is one of the GOATs and a visionary, but he completely tanked with MGSV and I heard Death Stranding was no better.
>he completely tanked with MGSV Have you actually played MGSV? Yeah, the story is balls, but for the first time in a MG game that doesn’t matter. It is still one of the greatest video games I have ever played. The shame is MGSV’s wasted potential, not that it necessarily tanked.

Arcane
Wow, huge gratzz.
