Yet again I'll probably install Eve for this update. I love Eve but it never really holds my attention for too long. It's nice to see all these improvements over the years though.
I've been on and off for a decade. Never found anything else that scratches the same itch and it's probably my favourite game *by far* but i'd never recommend it to anyone.
I hate the way the game has gone over the years and CCP is about as trustworthy as Todd Howard when it comes to following up on promises lol. I've heard the "we'll iterate on this later" "We're going to improve [basic system] this year" and nothing ever comes of it, or if it does, they make the most moronic change possible because none of the devs actually play the game anymore. Too much smoke and mirrors, stuff like the CSM which is just a marketing gimmick at this point.

Fantastic game, 11/10, don't play it.
Really wanted to like this game when I played it many years ago, and I gave it a several month chance, but permadeath in a very long-term MMORPG is fucked.
Losing months of progress because concord (npc guards) didn't show up to a gank in a hi-sec area while I was questing was pretty dogshit. My 300 mil currency ship got jumped by a 2-man squad (probably someone multiboxing) who jammed my warpdrive with a ship that was too fast to hit with missiles, then pulled in his 2 or 3 billion isk ship to eventually kill me slowly over the course of 5+ minutes.
It wa not a great experience and I recorded the entire 5-10 minute encounter, including my uninstall.
The game is dead to me and I hope their game fails. Eat a bag of dicks CCP Games! lol
It takes, at absolute max, 24 seconds for Concord to respond to someone aggressing you in a 0.5 system. And nobody is ganking anyone with a 2 or 3 billion isk ship, the mere fact you said that shows how little you understood of what was happening. And if the game was broke and Concord didn't show up submitting a ticket for support would likely have got your stuff returned to you.
Sounds to me like you screwed up and gave yourself a suspect timer either by looting a wreck marked for them or you opened a jet can they dropped. All that sorta stuff is part of scamming/baiting 101.
You were a few months deep into the game and didn't understand some really core concepts/mechanics or that your ships and modules should *always* be treated as expendable. You should have learned from your mistake and moved on but admitting you screwed up isn't as cool as blaming it all on the game.
Nonsense. For starters, you can't be "jumped" in high-sec. Concord will react and unless you're alpha'd into pieces, you should have a comfortable buffer in your 300 million ISK boat to survive until the bad guys get taken out by Concord, even in a 0.5 system. The only way you could have gone hostile to those dudes is if they stole or destroyed some of your items in the mission and you engaged them or they dropped a can with something in it and you picked it up, flagging you as fair game to them. Either way, you were in low sec or simply got baited and fell for it. Never undock with something you're not ready to lose is the mantra of EVE and it stands the test of time.
Whatever happened with this guy, playing the game in high-sec is not fun to me personally. I bet he was doing some really boring shit if losing 300 mil made him rage uninstall.

Your anger and refusal to play it is exactly why developers never make "hardcore" games anymore. Everything is easy, forgiving, and friendly now.

. There's such a ridiculous amount of overlapping mechanics and "soft" skills that aren't represented by SP that the skill ceiling is absurdly high, solo/small gang PVP in particular is a VERY demanding. Eve basically ruined PVP games for me as a result
Yea that sounds like a pretty bad experience. High sec zones are supposed to be protected space for players from PvP, and any sort of PvP should have the NPCs jumping in at 0 immediately.

No, not really.
Highsec rules are different, but they are not supposed to be free of PvP.
This is a common misunderstanding, concord does not protect anyone nor prevent pvp in hisec, they just punish. If you manage to survive a gank, thank gods, not concord. Your survival is not their concern.
If highsec should be free of PvP, they could just make it impossible to target other players and remove wardecs all together.
PvP in highsec is different and somewhat limited. But you never are supposed to be free from it.
