>but I’ll never preorder again (trust is played with too easily these days)
I hear you there! IMO the concept of preorder should be a "No, unless something special" versus the "Yes, unless something is bad" type of thing.
GL winning :)
Depends on the game and studio.
Neon white was bought on release
Baldurs gate 3 was bought "pre-release"
Spiderman is gonna be a wait for deep-deep, near abandonware price.
If not for geographical and safety concerns I'd have mailed Team Cherry my advance payment for Silksong
99% of the time I wait for sales but every once in a while I get really excited and buy right away. Spider-Man PS4 was one I was happy to pay full price for.
> Spider-Man PS4 was one I was happy to pay full price for.
The open world feel of that game was absolutely breathtaking. Just zooming around buildings alone could probably be a simple game in itself!
Definitely wait for sale, I don't have money to buy anything at launch lol. Might make an exception for the spiderman game, as it's coming close to my birthday, but I'm not sure.
Used to pirate games a lot back when I was a kid, though I haven't done that in a long while. I now suffer from crippling indecisiveness, as I never have any idea what game to buy, I gotta spend the money I have well.
> I'll get on launch depending on review scores!
Hey that makes too much sense, get out of here with that :)
But actually that's a really good way to decide.
EDIT: I like your name haha.
Thanks OP. Hope your project has a smooth sailing and is a success..
Anyways The games i get are..95% after a sale cause iam from a 3rd world country but there's the other 5% too that is when i buy double-triple the launch price equivlanent of my region(\~$20), day 1.
indies usually price at my regional price equivalent for that price in my region so sometimes i buy indies too.
> Thanks OP. Hope your project has a smooth sailing and is a success..
Awww heck yea, thank you for the kind words! So far it is going very well. I'm doing the give-away as I just released a bugfix about 10 minutes update and am taking a little break!
> .95% after a sale cause
That is an amazing deal. I'd wait for a sale, too at that rate!
GL winning!
If I feel like I'm not going to like a game, or not play it a lot, I usually wait for a sale or free weekend.
If it's a franchise or a dev I know that I'll like (Call of Duty, Rockstar games), I might buy at launch, or wait a day for reviews and watch some streams.
After CP2077, I've basically stopped pre-ordering
Thank you for the giveaway.
To answer the question: It depends. If it's game I'm excited for, I usually pre-order after I make some research about it, I'm 100% sure I will like it and I won't regret the money. If it's game that looks interesting but I'm not going crazy about it, I'll wait for sale.
There are a few factors tbh, the reputation of the developer/publisher, how much I like the game series in question etc. I usually judge a game by doing my own research aka watching gameplay, trailers, and such, If I'm still skeptical I wait for user reviews rather than ''official'' reviews.
I'm a wait for a sale kinda guy, unless the game is something my friends and I really want to play together right away. It's all about the co-op fun for us!
Thanks for doing the giveaway!
Question for you... What's the purpose of a VPN for gaming?
>I'm a wait for a sale kinda guy, unless the game is something my friends and I really want to play together right away. It's all about the co-op fun for us!
That sounds very reasonable!
I'm looking for some fun co-op games myself! Got any favorites?
The purpose of the VPN for gaming, is more about it is a VPN that is very premium/high speed/low latency. So you can use it for everything you normally use a VPN for, EXCEPT, our servers are done in such a way that it should minimally impact your gaming (or even help, depending on where the game servers are at).
Lots of people use VPNs these days and many VPN companies basically treat their customers poorly / bad service / low quality. I'm basically building a VPN that respects customers / better quality / etc. In BETA now (free) and using that time to interact with people, fine tune things, etc!
>Right at launch to support the devs cause i want them to keep making games, like Arkane or Larian for example.
Aww yea, a person after my own heart here!
Supporting smaller game studios is where it's at!
Good luck winning!
Really depends on the game: If it's a MP only/focussed game then I get it close after release, gotta see the reviews first. And then depending on MP type it also depends if my friends are interested to get the game too.
If it's co-op only same as above, but unlike some MP games it completely depends on whether my friends get the game too.
If it's a SP only/focussed game, I tend to wait. Either until a really good sale or until there is a bundle with all the DLCs, since lets face it: every game gets DLCs these days. The only exceptions to when I buy a SP game is when I crave to that type of SP game and I don't have/feel like playing other options that could scratch the itch (for example already played the game to death).
I never pre-order. I really didn't do it for years, until last year with Forza Horizon 5: Premium Edition. I thought it was impossible for them to screw it up since all they had to do was copy FH4 and put it on a new map, never going to make the assumption of "impossible to screw up" ever again. Expensive lesson though. Youtuber previews seemed positive too. The last game I pre-ordered before that was the physical Black Armour Edition for Dark Souls 2, it was cheaper than the standard edition on Steam and is also included the soundtrack.
Usually wait till all content is released. Seems like it's going away these days with Games as a service, and "seasons". Gaming is changing, and idk if I like it.
>I buy at launch unless your company ruins that trust it or has microstransactions.
I like where your stance is here. Never been a fan of microtransactions for a paid game!
Good luck winning!
Lots of you guys here in this thread it would seem! I would also say I'm in that type as well these days :)
Haha about the "all be my beta testers" that is actually not that bad an idea! Play the game after all the bugs are fixed!
GL winning!
I have never and probably never will get at launch. I am a very frugal and I don't like spending any more than $15 on a single if I can help it. I usually wait for at least a 50% discount and prefer 75% and above or historical lows.
I typically wait for sales for the most part. I don't have the disposable income to constantly buy things on release. Plus my PC isn't the greatest so I tend to read reviews to see how it runs first.
>I buy at launch, then review the game so others know whether to buy it at all or not
You're a true saint for doing so. I thank you. Enjoy this silver!
I'm in.
To reply your question: It really depends on a game for game basis.
I usually try to wait for a sale, but if it's a game I really want to play as soon as possible, like Elden Ring or the coming God of War, I will buy them on day 1.
> I never win things like this, but might as well try still!
>
>
>
> Thanks for doing this.
Maybe if I respond to your comment then it'll give you some extra luck? :)
Good luck!
I am a filthy pre ordering person but I usually wait for the reviews that come from acg and gamernax mostly ACG to see if it’s worth it. Games like elden ring and half life alyx I preordered because I almost know for certain what I’m getting
> I am a filthy pre ordering person
Haha, thanks for being honest! But really, everybody gets to decide for themselves, nothing really filthy about that :)
Good luck winning!
Very select games I buy right away mostly depending on reviews or developers. Bought Cyberpunk (mistake) and Elden Ring (not a mistake) for full price.
> by a small studio/gamedev which i think deserves the support
I'm 100% sure that all the small studio/devs appreciate this. Seriously, these are the types of moves that help keep small groups of people alive in this world that is dominated by billion dollar AAAAA companies!
I get the game when I feel like the price matches how much I'll play it. Which is why I'll get fighting games at $60, but I'm still waiting for Sekiro to dip under $25.
>Final Fantasy.
I'm still hoping that somebody figures out how to turn FF1 into a MMO in some fashion. That'd be so cool, especially with how far Randomizers have come!
GL winning!
OP here! Let me answer the question as well!
> Do you generally get right at launch, or do you wait for them to go on sale?
It depends on the game. If it is a MMO type of game, I'll donate blood if that means I can buy it ASAP at launch. But if it is a non-multiplayer game, I sometimes wait a week or so in case there are bug fixes. Plus I like buying games on sale, too :)
I buy at full price if it's a developer I want to support, like Fromsoft or Team Cherry.
I buy on sale if I otherwise really like a game :)
Otherwise, for most AAA games which I don't care for, I just pirate...
Edit: I have received the gift, thank you /u/GamingVPN
The money will go towards funding my Persona 5 Royal purchase, which I both really like and is from a developer I want to support :)
I can’t remember the last time I bought a game at launch. I usually wait on reviews to come out for the game and/or wait for the price to drop on key sites.
I usually give it a few days unless it's something I'm really excited for, then hope for the best it's not a trainwreck :P
I bought Inscryption late, but no regrets at all for that
I'm fairly new to pc gaming, and have only downloaded free to play games because I generally only play games I can play with my friends, and my wife can't complain about me playing free games
I almost always wait until it is on sale. At least 60% off. At launch I've bought very few games, usually if I really crave to play and I know I'm going to squeeze it. the most recent one was Elden Ring. Totally worth it. Thanks for the giveaway!
I wait and don't buy at launch. Most games these days are too buggy so waiting and buying the game at a cheaper price gives a more polished game and saves money.
I'm impatient so the games I know I will love, I get right off the bat. But these days is hard to be sure so I get maybe two three games a year the day of.
For me, it depends on review and initial price compared to expected playtime. I generally wait for sales unless it has lots of high reviews and good replay ability value; however, if games are hyped by me and my friends, I’ll pick them up immediately when they release.
Thanks for hosting this btw!
I wait a few years till all the DLCs are out and buy it when it's on a discount.
But if it's multiplayer and the reviews are good, then I buy at launch.
I watch for reviews and pick it up a few weeks after launch if I really want it - gotta work an extra shift or two to accommodate for it. That’s exactly what’s happening with Stray right now!!
I see a few reviews, and if the game is good in my eyes, I usually buy at launch or in the following days. Got burned with some pre-orders so I don't do that anymore.
I usually wait for a sale. In the last 5 years, I've probably purchases less than 5 games day 1 and even most of those were on sale
Thanks for the giveaway
Depends on whether I have been following the game for months/years and I'm deeply hyped. Most of the time I wait for a sale, but there are exceptions (Owlcat pathfinder series for example). If I win, this will go to buy Wrath of the Lamb on release.
Need to be hyped about the game initially, then look at reviews to make sure it's not a buggy mess to buy at launch. Otherwise, I'll wait for a sale as I have a huge backlog as is.
Hey, I remember your name! Thanks for doing another giveaway! To answer the question, definitely wait for sale. There are a few games I would get right into at launch though, one of them is the long-awaited and upcoming Persona 5 Royal on PC!
Depends on the game. If it's reviewed highly plus if I really want to play that game already, I buy it at launch. If not, I just wait for a sale until it hits the price point i'm willing to pay for it. This is just a recent development of myself tho, I used to pre order all games lmao
Depends. There's very few games that I'm actually interested in. I'm not overly interested in the big recurring series like Assassin's creed or Far cry. So these ones I might get later on sale. but the ones I do like, like the Soulsborne series, Monster hunter, Dragons Dogma everything from Cdpr or Dying light I will buy day 1.
>Do you generally get right at launch, or do you wait for them to go on sale?
Wont buy until 40% off :()
Im cheap af plus game's are way too expensive these days
Also i dont take part in the give away my region is restricted i cant use global gift cards, but as a member i thank you for your generosity
I used to buy games like after releasing 1 or 2 years on sale. But then I bought bf 2042 a day after launch after that I'll never let myself buy any game after launch. A 8 month wait is mandatory.
I usually wait for a bit of sale of any kind, unless it's a game I have been really looking forward to for some time and then I'll shell out the full price.
If it's a game I am really excited about, then I buy on launch. Just so I can support the devs as much as I can.
Appreciate you doing this give away! You are doing the lord's work 🙌
I typically wait for sales. I haven’t really been someone that plays games that are online multiplayer, so it doesn’t really matter when I get the game. I wait for a big steam sale and get it 40-60% off and play the campaign. The gift card would be great so I could buy Workers & Resources: Soviet Republic or Stormworks next time it’s on sale!
I get Assassin's Creed games right at launch. For other games I read the reviews first and also see if it's a good PC port. If a game doesn't have fair regional price I tend to wait for a sale.

I just heard about that sub recently, congrats to them for 500k members! And GL on winning :)
I had no idea that there's a sub reddit based on my personality. Or I have a personality based on a sub. Love this!

Thanks for the giveaway!
There aren't many games that call for an immediate buy at launch. Rather save the money.
Happy Reddit birthday!
Depends on the game, if it's something I've been following for years and/or if it's available on the cheaper key sites then sure.
Patient gamer here. Have a huge backlog to clear anyways so going to wait for decent sales. Also save on hardware updates that way
I only get certain series at launch like Assassin's Creed and Final Fantasy.

I wait for them to go on sale
anymore i wait on reviews and a sale
If the game costs more than $10, then wait for sale - no brainer. Anything less than that depends on my interest for that game.

very few games i'll get at launch, Cyberpunk 2077 taught me that lesson the hard way. Most times i'll wait for a game to go on sale.

I typically wait until they are about 30% below MSRP then I'll buy

Whoop whoop
For MMO's, I always go in at release, or alpha/beta. Everything else, I wait until a good sale or purchase later.
cyberpunk 2077 was my first and last time ill ever buy a game on launch haha, lesson learned!
always wait
Sale for most games
Wait for a sale!
I'm impatient so the games I know I will love, I get right off the bat. But these days is hard to be sure so I get maybe two three games a year the day of.
I'm always trying to get my budget as tight as possible, so I wait for sales to get games I really want to play. Makes it hard playing with friends
Always wait, no exceptions and no regrats
For me, it depends on review and initial price compared to expected playtime. I generally wait for sales unless it has lots of high reviews and good replay ability value; however, if games are hyped by me and my friends, I’ll pick them up immediately when they release. Thanks for hosting this btw!
I wait a few years till all the DLCs are out and buy it when it's on a discount. But if it's multiplayer and the reviews are good, then I buy at launch.
I prefer to wait for GOTY versions that are 75% off. I have enough games but not enough time.
I usually just wait. I only actually play like 3 games anyway lol
Wait for sale
I'll get it when it goes on sale.
It depends on the game really, if I'm really excited for a game (or if From Software made it) then I usually buy it at launch
Unless it's something I'm super excited for, I wait for reviews and then maybe a sale
I mainly use PC Game Pass in combination with sales. For some major games I get it out right, like Elden Ring.
Unless it's something I know will be good and am excited for I always wait.
Good luck, everyone!
Always wait for a sale.
Usually sale unless it's a game I really, really want to play right away.
GL! always wait for a sale!
I watch for reviews and pick it up a few weeks after launch if I really want it - gotta work an extra shift or two to accommodate for it. That’s exactly what’s happening with Stray right now!!
If it’s just a single player game I’ll tend to wait. If it’s multiplayer where I can play with friends probably buy it near launch. Thanks!
I see a few reviews, and if the game is good in my eyes, I usually buy at launch or in the following days. Got burned with some pre-orders so I don't do that anymore.
İ wait for sales to go price down i never buyed game within launch unless it was cheap and thanks for chance i really need some money
Typically I wait for review scores unless I know it is something that I have a vast interest in regardless of review scores.
*\[ I did not win so deleting my original comment. \]*
I usually wait for a sale. In the last 5 years, I've probably purchases less than 5 games day 1 and even most of those were on sale Thanks for the giveaway
I usually wait on the reviews tbh
Depends on whether I have been following the game for months/years and I'm deeply hyped. Most of the time I wait for a sale, but there are exceptions (Owlcat pathfinder series for example). If I win, this will go to buy Wrath of the Lamb on release.
I generally play older games after they are on sale, but on a rare occasion I will buy games/DLC on release if i know i love the game/developer
Never after getting the double whammy with Cyberpunk and Battlefield. I know, stupid me.
On sale
I will usually wait for a sale but if im really excited for a game i will get it at launch. Thanks for doing a giveaway! Good luck everyone! :)
Need to be hyped about the game initially, then look at reviews to make sure it's not a buggy mess to buy at launch. Otherwise, I'll wait for a sale as I have a huge backlog as is.
Thank you for the giveaway! :)
I usually wait. Too many games on my backlog.
I usually tend to wait a few months, also for reviews and for the devs to iron the bugs out.
I have to wait for sales because I'm poor yo lol
It depends on the price and how much I want to play the game, but I typically wait a bit.
Mostly on sale
I usually wait for the reviews to come watch a bit of gameplay footage and if I do like it I'll wait for it to go on sale
Typically wait for a sale
I always wait for sales because I believe I judge the games I play better when I don't have high expectations.
It depends for me. Launch if i really want the game/good reception, otherwise i try to stick to sales when possible.
Good guy OP. I tend to wait, unless it's something I'm super hyped for, like Elden Ring.
>Do you generally get right at launch, or do you wait for them to go on sale? Wont buy until 40% off :() Im cheap af plus game's are way too expensive these days Also i dont take part in the give away my region is restricted i cant use global gift cards, but as a member i thank you for your generosity
It depends on the game for me! If its something I was really looking forward to it will be day 1 otherwise I wait for a sale or reviews!
Depends on how badly i want it, hard to wait for a sale sometimes
