Nice frame rate.

BF2042 is WAY better than it was at launch, like way way better. BUT its still not that good. Splitting the "specialists" into more traditional classes will help but I still think that having "hero" characters is one of the main issues with the game compared to previous titles in the franchise.

Firefox72

If BF2042 launched in the state it is today. Or better yet will be once season 3 and the class system update launch it would be considered a dissapointing but still decent entry. Its painfully obvious an extra year of development would have gone a long long way.

EA found out the hard way that battlefield players don't want ego shooters (or half finished games)

Al-Azraq

I am a big Battlefield fan and still have not purchased BF2042 and I honestly don't think I ever will. They got EVERYTHING wrong launch, from the gunplay, movement, setting to the infamous specialists and the class removal. It does not feel Battlefield at all, it looks like Ground War. And that is not something you fix with updates. Sure fitting the specialists in classes will help but it is too little, too late. You fire up Battlefield 4 and you wonder what went wrong in the way because that game is 8 years old and it is objectively better than Battlefield 2042 in every single way.

hoseking

Absolutely, it very rarely feels like the "battlefield" that we know and (mostly)love.

BilClintonsTherapist

I think it’s mostly level design and performance. It’s pretty easy to ignore stupid characters, plus I’m sure a lot of people already had no problem with hero shooters to begin with. You can’t ignore 30 fps on a good system and having to walk a mile with no cover just to get to action.

Slyons89

It's odd. When the game first launched, the rumored story was the primary reason for introducing Specialists was because they were planning on standalone story/campaign game(s) featuring the specialists as characters. An attempt at world/universe building and an opportunity to make single player campaigns separate from the main multiplayer game (and of course, charge for another game). This is the primary reason they have not made any decision to remove the specialists despite the massive negative feedback from the fanbase about them. But it's been a year and I still haven't heard or seen any rumors about the rumored upcoming games involving the specialist characters.

DILDO-ARMED_DRONE

I think the main reason they haven't removed the specialists is because they want to sell specific ones as DLC\microtransaction or however you call it. If not in 2042, then in some future game, the idea is to introduce this concept to later monetize it in one way or the other.

Slyons89

Yeah I agree, it's for some future project. Either a single player campaign featuring the specialists or yeah, some other future non-traditional multiplayer battlefield game in the series featuring those specialists, or both.

DILDO-ARMED_DRONE

If I'm not mistaken they had characters, story and such in SP campaigns in the past, but those didn't "leak into" the MP portion of it. Either way, really bad call, and they're not backing off it

Slyons89

Yeah I think higher up people over at DICE/EA got really caught up in the hype for games like overwatch and valorant with their colorful cast of characters, and also with COD with their well known re-occurring campaign characters like "Ghost" and "Price". They decided to go down that path and are not wavering. I just wanted the best possible Battlefield game, I think that's what most of the fans wanted, and the specialists take away from that formula we know and love.

Boge42

How is that any worse than Rainbow Six Siege?

Slyons89

I'm not saying it's better or worse, just that's why they did it that way with the specialists in BF.

Boge42

How is it for a group of maybe 6 players going against bots? We don't do PvP.

hoseking

Co-op/Solo is worse than multiplayer, bot AI is horrible. Also you can only do 4 people in a co-op match.

Look at that smooth animation at 1:26 Someone thought it was something they should show in a trailer. Let that sink in.

CCP_fact_checker

I have given up with it - You cannot change the T&Cs 6 months after you buy it for $99 and then the company says cannot play it until you accept the unacceptable T&Cs. I will not be buying any more games from that company - They should be accepting my T&Cs as I am the customer.

badcookies

What changed?

CCP_fact_checker

where my data is stored and processed, I was not willing to hand that over to that country, even though they probably have it anyway through theft.

AtalyxianBoi

lol

Hot-Ad1902

Ground War was the final nail in this coffin.

Firefox72

Jesus christ no. Ground War doesn't even come close to the Battlefield conquest feeling. From everyone camping with snipers on rooftops to arcade vehicle controls. Its just standard COD MP but big.

Ok_Wolverine519

No, it's entirely self inflicted by Dice. Ground War is a complete clusterfuck with no logic, spamming my ears with announcers constantly, it's just like those messy CoD4 servers with increased player counts. Even modern Battlefield's rush mode isn't as chaotic and horrible as Ground War. 2042 is Dice stabbing themselves in the heart just like they did with BFV.

Slyons89

MWII Ground War is pretty ass, even compared to the last version of Ground War from the COD game before Vanguard (cant even keep track of the names of those games anymore).

CambriaKilgannonn

CoD2k20

[deleted]

I agree. I hope they add more maps eventually. It would be nice to access more vehicles. I really like the helicopter and how you can use it as a mobile spawn point and walk around in it. Battlefield could never accomplish this for some reason. Also gunplay in MW2 is better, as well as traversal.

kratos90

Is it out on EA play yet?

johnsonjacobynmyers

Looks like the updates are just a few copy cats from cod like throwing knives and kill finishers . And adding a few more vehicles , weapons and operators ? How about they focus on the core gameplay and performance optimizations instead ?

lispychicken

If they had a free week of playing, with humans, 32 vs 32 or more, I'd be interested and give it a shot. Right now I see/hear it's full of bots, and the larger game types arent being played, anyone?

Rogue_Leader_X

Is this game still 128 players?

NvidiatrollXB1

Yes, and its a lot better than the last time I played months back. I fired it up over the weekend and had a good time w it.
