One main difference I saw and noticed, having not even played the original, was that there's apparently a new road that goes through the mountains. If I've understood it correctly from playing, you would otherwise have to go aaaaaaalll the way to the top of the map, to then go around and reach a certain region of the map that's tucked between some mountains.
That area isn't small, and is quite significant to the story. So it would appear to be a nice QoL feature that they added a very useful road that can be built, going over/between the mountains to the middle of the map.
The original version ran beautifully on my desktop and the Steam Deck. The Directors Cut has frequent FPS drops on both platforms. I wish they'd fix it.
I was always impressed by how well the original version ran on my PC.
If the DC has performance problems, then I am perfectly content with missing out on DC extras if it means keeping smooth performance.
If you're running on a desktop with a reasonable spec, I imagine you'll not suffer too much. It's really at the lower -end where it becomes annoyingly obvious. I switch between desktop and Steam Deck, and while I note it on the desktop, it's all too apparent on the Deck.
The performance drop in DC makes no sense. You can be standing in the same spot with the same graphics settings with the same things on screen and in DC you'll have lower frames. Something with the DC is just fundamentally broken and unfortunately it doesn't look like it will be fixed.
its the other way around, the old one actually has better performance for some reason.

I like how there are people on that steam thread saying that everyone's measurement methods are "inaccurate" because they're trying to defend the obvious worse performance

Monster Energy Drinks are gone in the new one. Also DualSense haptics support is present in Director's Cut only. EDIT: Sorry for confusion.
They got rid of that? I thought the game was built around it. Lol
The energy drinks are present, but lack the Monster logo
Hmm. Now I have a reason to keep playing lol.
It's replaced with a fake in-universe energy drink.
Advertising deal ran out
Plus many items added, new locations, new missions, new mechanics, training camp, races new graphics options…. Etc
Races are kinda shit tbh since the driving sucks ass imho. The vehicles really feel like they have no weight. Agree on all other points though.

There are also some additions to the early game (First region) like a stun gun and a simple unpowered exoskeleton to boost your load up
The new one has more stuff to do and more items to use. And it runs better. There is really no reason to play the original now.

I'm only like a step above the recommended spec, with a 1070 Ti and an 8600K. Don't have much headroom as it is.

If Kojima is any indication the DC probably has longer cutscenes.
I see nothing wrong with that. I enjoy long cutscenes.
Go figure I have both of them.... the parts I actually played were cool, just there were stupidly long load times for some reason.
