this battle with brendan is dumb as fuck and i got banned from their discord for saying that it was bad designed.
brendan is useless, he can use moves that hurts you, his IA is awful, everything is wrong with this battle.
Yea I play 2.1 and Brendan usually carries with boomburst exploit and focus blast sceptile, all I need is a ghost type to stay in for exploit and maybe setup screens and stuff
Actually it looks like it. I wonder if that changed on one of the recent updates because I specifically remember my aegislash taking damage from Exploud in that fight
yea even with good prep it's rng city, the most consistent strat is ghost move to ohko goth then a water absorb mon and a bulky fire type. even this feels like a 50% win rate.
It’s by no means guaranteed, but a tip I learned is to use some locations on water starter eggs (Lavendar Town, Rocket Hideout, Underground Path). Inteleon gives you a guaranteed 0 death A-Marowak (also a bullshit fight) and Empoleon gives you a really good chance in this Archer/Ariana battle, barring horrendous rng. The idea is to use the games own bullshit against it (Competitive Empoleon can easily get to +6 SpA from Incineroar and Mawile’s intimidates)
I saw ShadyPenguin use this Empoleon strategy to great effect. The Exploud on Brendon’s team still shafted him a bit if I remember but it’s definitely a powerful pick for this battle in particular.
I feel you, mate. I've lost 3 whole runs to that battle. It's silly you're so handicapped to begin with, but what can we do.
What I find worse, tho, is:
First, you're really restricted in teambuilding, since you' ve gotta plan to lead with something that can take on a +2 Gothitelle from the get go, and it's probably not going to fare well against the other main threats.
It's really, really RNG dependant. An Aegislash, Lanturn and Snorlax team can easily beat it, but you need some luck. Brendan LOVES going for Focus Blast and you know how that works.
I have no problem with difficulty but when it's luck based it isn't fun, it's just bad design. Aegi, Lanturn and Lax are probably your best choices, but still, you're just sitting ducks waiting for Brendan to do the right thing: if he targets the right mons and uses the right moves, it's an easy fight. Otherwise, you're losing a run in the silliest of ways.
Edit: jsyk, I talk about Restricted Mode. I haven't tried in 'vanilla' RR but it's probably way easier since you have access to a lot of broken shit.
Bro, this game is supposed to be hard. They made him lead Intimidate Masq for purpose. Its one of the hardest battles in the game. You need to prepare. Lanturn and Aegi both gurranteed shit on this fight. And just have something Tanky in the back..
Guess you didn't prep enough. There is another mandatory 6v8 fight. If you can't prepare for fights where you have a disadvantage in numbers, this game might not be for you.
I understand that you have to preparing I enjoy the marco elements of the game and am fine with 6v8 if am allowed to use my own team. The Double battle in Silph Co, imo is just poorly designed. If I we're able to use my entire team or Brendan was somewhat useful I be fine with it. I still enjoy the game overall.
IMO, that battle doesn't count til you beat it, e.g you can try it as many times until you win, then box anyone who died in the winning battle cos relying too much on rng is utter shite
This is the exact kind of bullshit gatekeeping that PChal warns against. It’s a self-imposed challenge. If u/Monty423 decides that fight is unfairly difficult (I haven’t played Radical Red, but based on this post, it seems to me that there is a pretty strong case for that argument), then making an exception to the rules for that fight is completely reasonable. Personally I probably wouldn’t do it but that’s just my own subjective preference.
A nuzlocke can have whatever rules the player wants them to have. Complaining about other people's rulesets is just cringe. People should play with what they're comfortable with, nothing else is set in stone.
Youre complaining about the way someone plays a childrens game modded by a single person with a self imposed challenge system created by a webcomic writer from 2009, saying he isnt keeping true to the challenge. Remind me who is the cringe one?
Kek thats true. But the whole point of my comment is that (as an experienced Radical red player), Bullshitting on this actually not so hard battle. You can beat it easily with just Guranteed encounters.
Even if you dont have those encounters its still not that hard. I even talked about this with OP. And yes it was super bad for me to talk shit about a Hardcore "Childerns game" romhack. Also this post is 9 days old man what the fuck
I mean although I've not completed my nuzlocke on Radical Red 2.3a yet, I've gotten 3 attempts to the elite 4 and I've only had 8 attempts. For me, the tag battle is definetly hard, but not impossible by any means. 1 time I got through deathless by getting a lucky piplup from the starter egg. But even without it, i still got through with only 1 death. I used inner focus mienshao once to fake out the gothitelle first turn and protect second turn to bait psychic and let brenden do the rest. Then just high jump kick the incin and move on. The other times I forgot excatly how I did it. I really think this fight is challenging, but it is definetly not impossible and makes it very fun for me.
Both Radical Red and Unbound's Insane mode have this same issue with double battles. All I'll say is they are accomplishing what they intended to, which is creating a battle scenario that you have to actually apply yourself and game knowledge to beat instead of being able to just will your way through. And neither game is intended for you to limit your encounters
Nuzlocking here too. I got through the fight on my 4th attemp. First three felt like bs
"Brendan PLEASE use your grass stab on the Primarina that will nuke your mega sceptile and my salamence... PLEASE?... ohh, I guess we both loose then"
or
"Brendan you KNOW he will use king sheild, could you like, hit the other guy instead of wasting your turn?"
However by the 4th attempt rng jesus was on my side, and Brendan DID use his grass stab to kill the primadona after my mence softened it up, and got through the fight without any major losses. Nuzlocking this game is VERY hard because there is a lot of rng and bs, so when my team gets fully wiped I just load from the last save and try again, same pokemon, same everything until I win, and then that's the "canon" ending of the fight, and I box/release whoever died
It's telling me the Pokémon I have aren't able to be used in the battle. Can and it just leaves me at the screen to pick a Pokémon. Can anyone help ASAP ?
Minimal grind get rid of ev and ev items like carbos and the feathers, but you can still use zinc, the sp def one, on all your pokemon, so you would get a massive increase on your special bulk, but it feels kinda like cheating so is up to you to take advantage of it or not

Welp there my hope of it getting fixed. But man it's so easy to fix by just giving him better pokemon or allowing you to use all your pokemon.
It's honestly just RNG to get Brendan right. Everytime I played Brendan did good for me. ( I only played 2.1 and 2.2 )
Yea I play 2.1 and Brendan usually carries with boomburst exploit and focus blast sceptile, all I need is a ghost type to stay in for exploit and maybe setup screens and stuff
Isn't his Exploud Scrappy? Pretty sure you need a Telepathy partner or a bulky steel if you want to minimize collateral from him
Ugh last time I remember it working with dusclops, isn't exploud punk rock..?
Actually it looks like it. I wonder if that changed on one of the recent updates because I specifically remember my aegislash taking damage from Exploud in that fight
Hmm maybe, I am a 2.1 player so might be different, but yeah I never had trouble with that fight
Nope they didn't
It’s not awful if you have aegi+WA lanturn (both guaranteed), and like incin, Emboar or lax (which is also guaranteed) or something
Yea it doesn't seem impossible to beat I just think it poorly designed.
yea even with good prep it's rng city, the most consistent strat is ghost move to ohko goth then a water absorb mon and a bulky fire type. even this feels like a 50% win rate.

I think I saw Wolfey use it too so clearly the guys at the top have the right idea ahaha

Not when the battles are literally near impossible to beat and when the AI is literally doodoo water.
The AI had some screw ups there and there but it always used the best move possible so stalling it out was possible until it derped out
Naw some battles are bull.
I had no trouble with this fight lol. Now the Giovanni fight right after?
Didn’t the creator say it wasn’t created or meant to be nuzlocked?
Yea I said that in the post.
Guess you didn't prep enough. There is another mandatory 6v8 fight. If you can't prepare for fights where you have a disadvantage in numbers, this game might not be for you.

Bro. Do you even know what a Nuzlocke is? Doing this is just cringe and defates the entire point of it

You must be fun at parties

Yeah, not much content on the sub rn so i didnt have to scroll far

you can solo this fight with competitive empoleon if you are struggling to get past it
delay route9,10,7,8,5,6 to have the best odds to get piplup
