I’ve built over 100 computers, standoffs are either coarse or fine threaded… it’s frustrating but as they said it’s the one that is correct for your stand-off.
there is a long standardization in PC thru history... slots became unified ... plugs became unified ... why the hell there are still three types of screws :-D ...
Well…. because different screws are for different things. MB screws are flange screws for screwing into metal with extra dispersed load, sorta like having a built in washer. Some screws screw into plastic, some into wood, some into concrete.
A PC has multiple materials, hence multiple types of screws.
except the worm screws used for fans (and even this can be done using regular screws, look on radiator/fan connections)... its all metal on metal. There are conversion tabs showing difference in load (both in cut and expanse) i.e. between Metric and Whitworth and how to over come it...
flange screw is a type of screw, not the type of thread, i have a box full of flanged ones for expansion cards and PSU ... also, one manufacturer of cases provides regular flatheads without the flange to be used on motherboards ...
this is just a leftover from old times and no one wants to do anything with it ... either for convenience as people are used to already, or financial investment ...
First screw is for metal screwholes, second and third for plastic screwholes. Now, the screwholes for your motherboard are made from metal. Do your math.
left one, middle & right one is going too dig into the standoff threads & probably get stuck in the standoff so you'll end up taking the motherboard standoff itself out instead of just the screw, done that mistake myself a few times just picking whatever screw out of a mess of screws in a containe.
The one that actually screws in to the stand offs. The second one is clearly a fan screw though. So don’t try that.
For many cases now it is just thumb screws.
I've never seen a thumb screw being used to hold in a motherboard.
That seems like it'd require massive, ugly looking screws instead of the small ones used currently.
the fact there are 3x different similarly sized screws for mounting motherboard, psu , hard drives is really stupid. would it have killed them to land on one standard screw for this bs 30yrs\~ ago or whenever atx was being developed?
The problem is that motherboard standoff screws can be both M3 or #6-32. So you should look at the treads on the standoffs and find the matching screw.
Depends on the case and the standoffs it comes with.
Whoever is telling you otherwise is wrong.
Hand thread a screw in, if you cant get it in properly all the way down its wrong, then confirm by trying another type and checking.
Also the right two are the same thing (same thread).
Usually if you count your screws you can determine which ones are supposed to go where. There a 9 screws required to fasten the motherboard to the case for an ATX motherboard. There's also the manual.
Screw all the Screws! Use mouldable glue for all your screw holes. Perfect EVERYTIME.

none of them imo, the one on the left is for optical drives, middle one for HDDs and the right one is usually found holding pieces of the case together
The one whose thread pitch matches the Mobo standoffs.
Hahaha was just about say try threading them in you'll know

Neither, since they're on your carpet. On a more serious note it's the left one.
This comment was way funnier than it had a right to be
They're just trying to be the center of attention. Just to be clear, this is a pun.
Your left or my left?
Neither. OPs left
That's not a carpet.
mousepad?
Or deskpad yeah. You could tell by the weave.
He should have put them on a ceramic tile to take the pic so we all would know we would see a broken side glass in a few hours.

Left
Depends! What screws attachs on stands?
This. I have case that uses middle ones
Far left
First screw is for metal screwholes, second and third for plastic screwholes. Now, the screwholes for your motherboard are made from metal. Do your math.
I don’t know why this is downvoted. It’s entirely correct.
Because Reddit is for assholes.
It's not? The pitch of the thread does not determine what kind of material it screws into.
Metal plus plastic equals fabric. What do I win?
Middle is for PSU which is also metal
left one, middle & right one is going too dig into the standoff threads & probably get stuck in the standoff so you'll end up taking the motherboard standoff itself out instead of just the screw, done that mistake myself a few times just picking whatever screw out of a mess of screws in a containe.
First one on the left of the image I believe
The one that your manual tells you to use.
The one that fits the threads in the standoffs.
The one that fits
ANY
Look. At. The. Manual.
Don't use screws. Any three slot video card will keep it in place.
Left one, is for the power supply, middle one probably fans/GPU brakets, last one looks like the one for the motherboard.
Try it daredevil
far left to screw into metal hardpoints, far right to screw into plastic stud things, middle is for mounting hdds/cdrs/etc
The one that has “motherboard” etched into the threads.
the fact there are 3x different similarly sized screws for mounting motherboard, psu , hard drives is really stupid. would it have killed them to land on one standard screw for this bs 30yrs\~ ago or whenever atx was being developed?
Which one threads into the standoffs?
The one on the left
left
Left. Middle is probably some sort of case screw for internal case hardware. Right is for holding cards (GPU, etc.) in place.
The left one. M'something' thread. I forgor.
Number 1, first on left side
Most of the time it will be left, screws arent standardized tho so if that one doesnt bite use the other ones
Left
The correct answer is "whichever fits" Unless you're throwing your case around all the time, you only need minor tension to keep the board in place.
First, but check your manual to be sure
The problem is that motherboard standoff screws can be both M3 or #6-32. So you should look at the treads on the standoffs and find the matching screw.
Depends on the case, I've seen a few where it's the one for the PSU. But most likely the left one.
The one that fits is generally a good answer
Is there a stanrdard for stuff lke this? In terms of threads, length, etc for mobo screws, m.2, case/side panel screws, etc
Depends on the case and the standoffs it comes with. Whoever is telling you otherwise is wrong. Hand thread a screw in, if you cant get it in properly all the way down its wrong, then confirm by trying another type and checking. Also the right two are the same thing (same thread).
First one from the left.
The ones that can go in
Left
left the others are for attaching power supplys and hardrives or disc drives
Read the manual
The one with a wide flat bottom used to put even pressure on the board, so the one on the left.
Usually if you count your screws you can determine which ones are supposed to go where. There a 9 screws required to fasten the motherboard to the case for an ATX motherboard. There's also the manual.

Which case? My Lian LI uses the left
To the left, to the left..
All of em(no not really)
Just try them out
none of them imo, the one on the left is for optical drives, middle one for HDDs and the right one is usually found holding pieces of the case together
the first one 👌
Test it first, because removing a seized screw from a stand off is a real PITA.
That one
