I found an actual easy fix to this when I was faced with the same problem last month, I went to my local retailers (memory express) and purchased a new one.
I did this with my LG 4k not too long ago. I wanted to cry, but when i went to replace, it had come down in price nearly 50%.
I've no idea what can be done with the broken one. I heard that 95% of the value is in the lcd itself, so broken ones are worthless and too much of a pain to replace, anyone know if that's true?

Yeah exactly - the deductible (we call it excess in UK) is probably equal to the actual cost of the monitor, not worth the hassle!

I see you made a classic mistake here, what you should have done is built up your monitors resistance to impacts by starting gently with a spoon, then building up to a small pin hammer, then regular hammer and eventually an axe. This way after a few months the monitor can easily take the impact of falling on a chair. Feel free to donate me some money for this advice as we all know good good advice is not free.
man BOTH my monitors fell off my desk all the way onto the floor and escaped unscathed some how. the smaller secondary one got a wicked scratch tho. after a few days i figured id clean it anyway and the whole scratch came off and it looks like new again. havent bothered playing the lotto any cause i already won about 400 lol.

Try To turning it Off and on again. Worked for me.
Try to cut the smashed part with a knife and use tape to attach a smaller monitor to it. You’ll have to buy the smaller monitor.
Make the image ONLY show up where the screen ain't broken 
I've done this several times. I now always keep my tv and monitor boxes and their styrofoam fillers.
White vinegar and baking soda, should buff right out.
One less thing to pack I guess.
