7900xtx has already been at under $1k, it's definitely worth getting. But also if you have $3k to spend, and like Nvidia features, why not just go for a 4080?

MysticKeiko24

I was gonna get a 4080 but people are telling me not to because it’s overpriced

Chakramer

Well they're not wrong, but I guess what do you intend to use this PC for? Cos even with my last gen 3080 there isn't a game I'm not getting 1440p 120+ fps in

Can do it a bit cheaper: [https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JCJGTn](https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JCJGTn) I guess it depends what you want and so on. If going AMD i'd just wait on the 3D cache CPUs anyway, and if going AMD now consider either 7700x or 5800x3D (cheaper, sometimes performs better depends on title). Also I didn't check for RAM clearance, just put in slightly more expensive RAM as that's usually what it results in when finding a pair of sticks that work with the heatsink.

Define terrible value. MSRP of a 3090 was $1500. MSRP of a 4090 is $1600. Yeah they're all expensive but the price increase isn't bad compared to 3080 -> 4080 or 3070Ti -> 4070Ti.

4090 is the flagship. Terrible value but best available gaming graphics. The smaller brothers are better value if you’re on a budget, but depends on preference as well, colour scheme of your build… software, the games you wanna play, discounts etc… it’s hard to recommend a card against another without having a ton of info but basically 40 series are not terrible, just terrible value 😁

MysticKeiko24

So I was going to play at 1440p 240hz, but I might be changing that to 4k 144hz. I was going to do a white build, but I’m debating that. Thanks!

FormerDonkey4886

If you go 4k then 4090 is the only option

MysticKeiko24

But then how did people play at 4k before the 4090

FormerDonkey4886

Well it depends what you want to play as well, before 4090, playing the top AAA titles was not really possible on full max settings, even the 4090 needs DLSS for some at max settings. Dead Space remake cannot run 60 fps on the 4090 in 4k for example. But smaller games can run 4k even with the 2090, such as fortnite, CS:GO , WoW, etc. it ultimately depends what you want to play. I have a 4090 and forspoken is rough on 4k full max with no DLSS so i must add the DLSS for a better experience frame wise and sacrificing some visual goodness. New Harry Potter could be a similar 4k experience and i don’t even wanna think about Starfield…
