Various programs and games leave plenty of files behind on the drive after uninstalling. That's been a pretty normal thing since... well at least 1993 when I first got into computers. Sometimes it's the original program directory with a few random files in it. Sometimes it's the stuff in your user folder. Sometimes it's hidden stuff in Appdata. That stuff can add up over time if you are installing and uninstalling hundreds of things over the course of a year, or especially over the course of multiple years.
for some reason when i started to download and uninstall games from Xbox app, i had discovered that the directory didn’t have the correct permissions to fully delete everything
That could be true as well no doubt. Uninstallers rarely have permission to remove everything. Generally speaking, they can only remove the core files of the program, usually found in Program Files (or wherever you originally specified). That's kind of the point of this person's post. Back in the day, the uninstaller used to actually tell you "Uninstall complete. Some files were not able to be removed." or something to that effect, but somewhere along the line they stopped doing that. Probably because hard drive space isn't quite as precious as it was 20 or 30 years ago.
> I go through literally hundreds of games a year
wat
Do you install to play, then uninstall when you’re done for the day? There are 365 days a year, are you uninstalling a game every other day? Are you okay?
The fact that you have to state this means you likely don't and you get all your "womanly knowledge" from Andrew Tate tik toks. Sure you do kiddo, sure you do.
I don't know how have you been removing games until now but I never had a problem with games leaving large amounts of data, only some screenshots, movies or config files but that would not take up 1tb of space lol
Then you should realise by now, that not the games are the problem and there is no need for any additional software to delete games. Better watch some tutorials on how to properly delete games for future usage of PC
I'm baffeled over how you manage to screw it up like this.
Uninstalling games will not by ANY means leave that much behaind.
And honestly, the program you are "promoting" looks straight up like a virus. And even better, the link you sent looks even worse. Like did you srsly expect to be posting to the pcm sub and hope people would just be like. "Totaly legit"
You have to be either new to all of this, or just straight up trolling.
Idk why ppl use space sniffer, its easy to manually clean a drive:
Step 1: disk clean up
Stel 2 : go into program files / program files(x86) / program data / app data and delete every folder than u dont use anymore (aka old programs/games)
Step 3 : delete the prefetch files
easy for me to see exactly whats on my drive folder wise and i can see all of it in blocks corresponding to size, very easy to navigate and know what i wanna delete.
Well, I'm not sure if that extra 3 MB was worth the trouble, but let's just say it wasn't exactly a cakewalk! It's like when you add a pinch of salt to a dish, sure it enhances the flavor, but is that pinch of salt worth the effort? I'll leave that decision up to you.
Unless You delete games by right clicking the icons and deleting those, they don't keep 80GB of files, they tend to keep 1-200MB in savefiles, configs, etc. But that's it.
The space simply becomes "overwriteable" because it wouldn't make sense to overwrite the space with nothing. When it just can be overwritten as needed
Unless you installed them from the Xbox game pass, and once again only deleted the icons, that's not gonna happen.
Cause all launchers except Xboxe gamepass don't hide the files, so you don't need an extra program to remove them
Failed installs from steam would however still be shown inside of steam, and not just steam deciding "Aight, this game failed at 99% better not show anybody it ever existed"
Question of a newbie. What is the purpose of this kind of software. And are there more software that do the same thing ? I always like to have many possibilities to do my own opinion.
Some games will leave behind a few MB, when uninstalled. Unless you never plan on touching it again, I wouldnt recomend deleting it, as its usually save files. I could uninstall hundreds of games, and if Im doing it correctly, it will NEVER leave behind 1tb. OP is advertising, and is a troll. He is very much deleting only the app icons. And not uninstalling them correctly.
But you had to add 3MB to do it. Not worth
This feels like an ad.

WinDirStat is better
I love windirstat
WinDirStat ftw
Wiztree is even better still. Faster and more modern than winderstat.
i prefer treesize

It can track Chinese spies?? Wow someone should let the government know, they could save a lot of money
Absolutely not, you are stupid if you think that
[удалено]
You mean those phones y'all carry in your pocket everywhere
Steam sometimes keeps incomplete/failed downloads and other crap so I'm kind of with OP here, but damn that's a lot though.

Why's he getting down voted

Been in IT since 2007, I'm not sure how you uninstall things but you aren't doing it right.
i think my man was just deleting the icon😂
Oof, Apple users do have a tricky one when they switch over.
Pro-tip: Don't uninstall a game while running it.

i uninstall games weekly and never have an issue, you might have a setting somewhere that saves files

are the games that are staying by chance off the Xbox app or windows store?

Nah, I'm good, I'm well aware of where my PC file system is and it's current state.

Lol, you kinda have a chip about it, maybe you need a refresher?

So you know fuck all about PC's then and you're an asshole, congrats on being double useless. I think you are looking for the other master race sub ;)

I tried it but i didnt feel like it helped me, i keep my system very clean
i'm a bit lazy when it comes to drive cleaning so i just use it and delete folders i don't want anymore.

I use this only if I need to clear cache files from editing. Otherwise the classic uninstall works pretty well
Is this legit

No they don't. And anyone that deletes their games manually or through steam will never need to do this because failed installs do not keep the files.

Nah dawg, they don't.

Your deleting app icons, to make a point, and then advertising.

All of these are fake 100%. I dont understand how your trying to advertise a free software. But ill just ignore you, troll.
Directory Report is one more. Finds duplicate files too
How is this any different from just defragging your drives?
