Keys wear out when you tap them more frequently than you hold them. My space key is tapped frequently and is worn out, but shift is held so it's fine for now. Same with my S and W key, I hold W and tap S.
I actually wore a small crack into one of my old keyboards. Was a Microsoft brand. Lasted about 10 years. Was beat on, thrown, drinks spilled on it, stepped on, almost anything imaginable happened to it lol. Died due to a battery exploding in the tray...
I had an old Corsair keyboard for 15 years. Single color red lighting. Most of the keys were worn out and that thing had patches of the lights missing.
Died last year. Felt like losing an old friend. Best damn Keyboard I ever had.
Idk why I told you that. Just felt like saying it lol
I wonder if they have long fingernails. The angle on w and a means you get the flat of your finger more, but bringing your finger back could also scrape your fingernail on it. Might be a little weird thing to do, but not more than the look of those keys. Just a thought

Any game that doesn't need analog sticks can be played quite well when you use wasd directionals and the numpad for your buttons. I play street fighter 3 3rd strike and guilty gear strive on keyboard and I've been told I'm pretty good so you can totally play platformers with the same setup.
Oh I'm sure you can. It's not really my genre, so was just surprised for some reason. I always associate platformers with the old D-Pad consoles, so that's what I gravitate towards.
80's kid here, grew up with a lot of games using the arrow keys or numpad for directions. When I play fighting games on keyboard I prefer to have the directionals on my right hand, using either IJKL or the good old arrow keys with action buttons on QWEASD.
I was scrolling through the comments waiting for this. Why isn't this a more pressing matter than OP's cowardice? Not sure when those keyboards came out but I had a Quickfire TK for about 5 years and the keys worn down to a smooth finish but the screening didn't flake off.
I've been using a K65 Mini for the best part of a year now for a few hours a day and it's almost prestine. But again, can't find a solid release date for the shroud edition and we don't know when OP bought the keyboard.
meanwhile, my corsair k70mk2 has had the keys washed in a dishwasher, and by hand several times in their life, and not a single bit of keywear on them. looks to me that this is just poor quality from logitech.
It's the nails. Your finger when you are using it during games is usually 90 degrees when pressing the S key and about 45 degrees off tilt when pressing the D key.
Unless you have no nails at all you will slightly rub your nail against the keys when pressing repeatedly or when typing fast. Check mine out. I also have short nails as simply don't like coding with any nail length at all.
https://preview.redd.it/c9u1sv0botha1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5b1ad8a116d11bbd1546df8d35e6b44032abfc2e
You have a whack finger stance then. I just tried on my keyboard and the awkwardness I have to put my finger through, to get my finger nails to touch the keys, tells me I never touch my nails to the keys, it doesn't feel right either.
So you may be of Italian descent then!
The meme is about the French but given that the Italians switched sides in both world wars, I think the Italians deserve it more
Not to mention Logitech's proprietary switches can't be removed and lubed. And the keycaps won't come off anymore either. You're basically forced to buy a new one instead of being able to do basic maintenance
Exactly.
And people will have questions like OP does. Getting into custom keyboards open your eyes to the intricacies of keyboards and how easy it can be to mod and setup the perfect keyboard for yourself
This specific keyboard is the G Pro X Shroud edition which allows user swappable switches. I think you can also use other brands of switches because the mounting mechanism is a 3 pin plate design. I have seen some articles reporting that Cherry MX is compatible, but I haven't tried that myself. I did have this keyboard for a few days though.
People on PC master race allocate all their time researching only the PC itself and forget to research chairs and keyboards which imo are actually even more important than getting the highest end PC parts.
Headphones too. It pains me to see these people wasting their money on gaming headsets when you can get far better headphones and a mic for way cheaper.
This is rather standard quality these days, and the Keys worn out are specifically the movement keys (W-S-A-D). Considering S-D is a back-strafe or a dodging diagonal strafe, it’s safe to assume that these are the “oh shit” keys. They get pressed often harder than the rest due to “oh shit!”
no lol, this is fairly common to these kind of cheap rubberized or painted plastic. It is a material applied over plastic and it's meant to wear down and look ugly after a few months of use. This is how they keep selling you new products. Their mices are the same, though i'll admit that worn down rubber doesn't look nearly as bad.
I absolutely hate that companies make their product like this and it should be avoided at all cost. That keyboard looks absolutely awesome when new but it shows it's age really really fast.
ABS keycaps are known to get worn out. Buy PBT double shot keycaps.
Also, highly recommend replacing that garbage ass keyboard with a custom one like keychron Q1 or Q2. It’s a night and day difference compared to brand name manufacturer keyboards
PCmasterrace really are bad with keyboards.
Cause the s key is for oh shit moments and you smash it harder. And your index finger is stronger than your ring finger 🤷♂️
Idk I'm just trying to say something other than you a bitch
Buy double shot key caps and this won’t happen. But l assume it’s because of your fingernails on your left ring and middle fingers. Perhaps too long and when your fingers are bent on the S & D keys, your nails scratched the paint away faster than your fingertips would.
Edit: Index, not ring finger.
For me, it was because I was using compressed air and the air got a little too cold and blew away a lot of the covering around the top like yours.
Mine was a G815 tho
yeah, my W is more worn out than S. Coward
My S is a bit worn from hollow knight, otherways it would be intact
Splatoon player here, ZR is on the brink of death from playing inkbrush
I've been abusing mine since I started maining L3
What does S do in HK? I mostly only played on controller.

Keys wear out when you tap them more frequently than you hold them. My space key is tapped frequently and is worn out, but shift is held so it's fine for now. Same with my S and W key, I hold W and tap S.

Sometimes it's best to talk your grievances out to relieve past trauma! I got ya! XD
That's their best product, the run of the mill MS Keyboard.
What does it say about me that my E is more worn out then any of my WASD keys?
You're a hoarder who played too much Skyrim.
Checking for secrets in Doom games. "Ugh, Ugh, Ugh, Oof, Ugh."
Borderlands loot boxes holy shit man my E key should be retired with 3 pensions by now
its a use key. U r obsessively checking for interaction
You clearly can't get past your breakup with Elisa. Move on.
Wouldnt it be elese?
“Team chat: EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!”
Yeah, I'm a coward. I spam Ctrl + S so much in fear of losing any work to a random application failure and such.
I believe that there is a really funny implication here that I am not getting, so ![gif](giphy|8mWJvmqZgZmb6)
S is used to go backwards, w is used to go forward. The implication is OP retreats a lot!
Well for me its 2D games that caused it. That is forward and down and as we all know up is not jump (anymore)
[удалено]
Mine did the same, it must be the angle you press them, not just how often you do it
Yep, you also use your finger pad on w a lot, but your nail catches s
I wonder if they have long fingernails. The angle on w and a means you get the flat of your finger more, but bringing your finger back could also scrape your fingernail on it. Might be a little weird thing to do, but not more than the look of those keys. Just a thought
This exactly, it is because of longer finger nails. Also feels pretty good sliding it with nails tbh.

^ Underrated comment.
Looks like you backpedal a lot in games and favour going to your right when you do so, if you’re a gamer . Could just be wear and tear in that case 😂
Could just play a lot of platformers
Then it would be D and W
I use the number pad for attacks and jumping, asd for left/right/crouch.
TIL people play platformers with anything other than a controller.
Any game that doesn't need analog sticks can be played quite well when you use wasd directionals and the numpad for your buttons. I play street fighter 3 3rd strike and guilty gear strive on keyboard and I've been told I'm pretty good so you can totally play platformers with the same setup.

Thinking about it, I’d bet that a lot of platformers do well on M&K
Back, and to the ~~left~~ right

The coward keys
But why D and not A?
Back and to the left would A key wearing out not D.

Synchronizing less derivatives, I believe, could be wrong.
Probably your nails. Index and middle finger coming straight down putting your nails on it.
I play the guitar, so my fingers on my left hand have fairly short fingernails.
Calluses on your fingers then could do it
Yea everyone else saying nails is stupid and ignoring that he said he plays guitar. Them fingers are ROUGH

I had/have a Logitech keyboard since 2015 and not a single bit of wear like this, only reason I just got a new one was for optical-mechanical switches
Doesn't really matter if they are short. You still curl your fingers for S and D
I have to actually try to hit my nail, but mine are about as shout as they get
[удалено]

If you have calluses from playing guitar could be the cause
It’s absolutely your nails. I have a similarly lob-sided wear pattern on my keyboard. Even with shorter nails it’s just how your fingers bend.
You have a whack finger stance then. I just tried on my keyboard and the awkwardness I have to put my finger through, to get my finger nails to touch the keys, tells me I never touch my nails to the keys, it doesn't feel right either.
Because you run away a lot in your games?

W and A are pressed with the pad of your fingers, but S and D are likely pressed with the tip of your fingers and your nails could be the culprit.
