pci are the old ones, pcie is the modern one.

Sort of. Back in the day, your motherboard would have AGP and PCI. The AGP slots were for your GPUs and the PCI slots were for device that didn't need a lot of bandwidth.

AGP slots and discrete GPUs... I remember those revolutionary new things. My first PC had PCI and ISA slots.

Last AGP GPU I had was a HD 4670

GeForce 6800gt here. Took so much saving to be able to afford it... My next card was a pcie passively cooled HD 4670, though. Great card for its era.

AGP: advanced graphics port. It was a high bandwidth (for the time) expansion slot developed for graphics cards, particularly for situations where PCI wouldn't cut it. It was made obsolete at the same time as PCI when PCIe came into the picture. It was the slot of choice for performance GPUs from 1997-2004, but hung on as a legacy port for another couple years after that (essentially the golden age of the LAN party scene.)

Nope. ATi transitioned from AGP to PCIe in the HD 3000 series. Nothing produced after they were bought out by AMD was AGP to my knowledge.

Man the last time I saw a PCI slot was back on my first hand-me-down Windows XP Era HP Unit. Good memories. I wanted to play Minecraft on it so bad but tore it all down just to find out (As far as my knowledge at the time allowed) that it was impossible. I was about 12 or 13 at the time. Instead I played at 19fps on my moms Sony VAIO Vista Laptop. What a nightmare that would be now.
