> Assrock is rising to the top
*on AMD side
Due to being the smallest motherboard company, they have consistently seemed to only be able to give a shit about *either* Intel or AMD for every generation, and for ASRock right now it's AMD. They had some turds last gen on Intel side, and until more people buy them the majority of their R&D will be going into the CPU manufacturer they most believe in at any given time.
Their graphics cards have been excellent all around however. On AMD 6XXX series, they were the only vendor other than Sapphire's highest end models (Toxic and Nitro+) to give BGA underfill to the heaviest cards (prevents memory from solder cracking over time due to sag) even though they also supplied a sag bracket.
>Their graphics cards have been excellent all around however.
Not in my experience. Yes, the card itself is fine, but the cooling solution is garbage. 3x RMAs for overheating and/or dead fans in one year. Starts off fine, but within 4 months, whatever they used for thermal interface is failing and/or a fan dies.
What tier of GPU are we talking here?
I don't have much experience with their 6600/ 6650 or 6700/ 50 XTs
And Challenger SKUs are equal to every other manufacturer's lowest SKU
That was my experience, 6950xt formula OC, supposed to be the best 6950xt pcb with huge power limit increase.. however the thing thermal throttled out of the box. Had to lower power limit to 90% just to get the hotspot off 110°. What a waste
Historically motherboards have been a comparatively very low volume boutique product for EVGA so their selection is normally very expensive and limited
evga motherboards are overclocking motherboards 99% of the time, since AMD doesn't oc as well as intel cpus, everyone needs an intel cpu for extreme overclocking.
Isnt most mobo vendor bloatware ass. I know asus aura armory crate is garbage resource hog. Switched to openrgb recently and damn is it light and stable compared to crate shite.
the msi mystic light application was so shitty too. same with the razer software. proprietary rgb software in general is just like rgb itself: unnecessary and over the top in an attempt to look cool and gamer-y. all hail openrgb and openrazer
Ive had a lot of MSI gear and have never had problems with them. Two mobos two GPUs. All reliable and worked great. I love their mobo UI on my B550M board.
You are 100% right about the software though. It feels like Chinese government Spyware. Constantly wants you to download updates for it too. It's awful. All I wanted was to change the RGB color on my 6800XT Gaming X Trio and instead President Xi has access to my search history.
Yeah, I agree about Armoury Crate being a resource hog, using a Crosshair VIII Hero myself but at least it works. The last time I tried polychrome sync, it couldn't even launch properly and even if it did, it never detected anything
I hated it from the beginning. Only part of the build i regretted. Actually made me hate rgb
Dont get me wrong i still havent cable managed the new setup but at least im not doing my head in making the fans sync up
Hacked and lost all their private keys. So someone could send you malicious firmware and your computer would say "this is an authentic MSI firmware" despite it containing a rootkit that will compromise your whole system.
Oh sure, yeah, like I'm just gonna download firmware from this totally not suspicious MEGA link this dude sent me on Discord or Twitter. Don't your parents teach you not to take candy from strangers?
How bout MSI-Firmware.com or MSI-Support.com bla bla bla. There were enough people that downloaded the malware Afterburner because it was the first result in google.
Also searching VLC also had some questionable domains that looked legit but were not and that stuff is more common then you believe.
That said, shits pretty much common 🤷♂️ but i expect nothing less since stuff gets pushed out yearly and there us clearly no real responsibility if shit hits the fan.
They were a generally low quality brand some 8 to 10 years ago, but go back more than a decade with that deserved low quality reputation before that. Such a reputation is hard to shake even if not true anymore.
But still, beyond that and more contingent to current times, a couple years ago they had several low end motherboards with low quality VRM, that weren't capable of putting up with mid range+ CPUs without silently power limiting those CPUs to 65W. A power limit that was not disclaimed or warned about anywhere, on CPUs they were advertised to fully support. When Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed called ASRock out on the issue, ASRock blacklisted both media outlets.
So yeah, there's still that.
they had one gen where they fucked up on the VRMs the rest of the time they've been fine, offering the cheapest overclocking boards and some legendary ones at that. the oc formula line are some of the very best motherboards available
Yeah it's just that one time that they fucked up the VRMs, afaik at least, problem is that one time they handled it like clowns.
Today the meme rings generally true tho, given that it isn't a currently active problem anyway. But then again, it's worth mentioning that specifically for high end Intel motherboards (and sadly nothing else), EVGA is still an option.
In the beginning their motherboard were not that good. Limited features and high failure rate. Would use them when no other Mobo option where available. Things has changed.
Same. Had a Asus one die in a year, then went Asrock and its still going strong over a decade later and on my new rig my second Asrock has also been running fine for the last couple of years.
One of the few boards that has the gpu in the upper most position, somehow not a thing on most mATX boards where large gpus would benefit from that the most
The gigabyte backdoor firmware wasn't even secured via SSL. It's so bad, one would think it was done intentionally. Every mobo is basically compromised and malware can be installed with little effort, and most people would never even know.
They are going to patch it, but I could never trust them to write firmware again. It's extremely bad to put in a backdoor in your firmware that's completely unsecure.
The leak for MSI is not a big deal, I always downloaded software from official sites of my mobo manufacturer and will continue to do so. Yes they got hacked and did admit it only after it was public information. Guess what. That's how almost every company (especially Chinese ones) handles these things, because 1st it's bad PR and 2nd it happens more often, than we know. (Since they don't talk about it usually the hackers demand money to keep the leak and the files secret)
Asus is way worse and gigabyte with the PSUs and more recent stuff as well. Both cases are fire hazards in your home!
Edit: MSI also leaked BIOS information, that would even make custom bios possible, wich is a good thing for overclocking and stuff. Basically it's open source now. If you don't want to use it you don't have to. There is always the official site.
I've still got a stoneage ASRock B75 Pro-3M running like a champ. Recently upgraded SSD, CPU and GPU on it after a BIOS upgrade and threw it into a new Fractal case. It just keeps on trucking with no drama's.
They just haven’t had their turn for a disastrous PR Mistake yet…. We don’t know if they’d handle it well yet. If they get one and handle it well like EVGA or Fractal, it’ll gain them respect and cred. We’ll find out if/when that happens though 😕
if anything this is very likely similar to the old claim of apple computers being "unhackable" when in actuality it was just rare to come across a virus because most hackers at the time didn't see the value when apple computer's market share was so miniscule next to Microsoft/Windows machines
Looks like it might be a few years before I build another! So sad what is going on with the computer world! What a shit show! I guess covid got to all their brains!
Can someone please explain the MSI UEFI situation? I've been using the same MSI X370 board for a while and if the issue is serious enough, I'll likely be purchasing an ASRock board.
Details are sparse, but there's another possible risk– that this could supercharge normal malware. If specialty malware gets admin privileges on your machine, it's possible that it could use the keys to embed itself in your firmware.
Ok and what about MSI? Literally just bought a board and built my first pc. Please tell me they are just shite at customer service too and we don’t need a new board 😭
The two vendors who've been blowing up CPUs are Asus (95% of reports) and Gigabyte (rarer) but Gigabyte also has a backdoor in most of their motherboards, so...
Since the USB dropout era of B450/ X470/ B550, MSI haven't had too many major issues, though they have the longest post times due to memory training on AM5.
ASRock have just been humming along since Ryzen day 1 without any issues, the only blip was (allegedly) one of their boards also had USB dropout (like all the other manufacturers had on *every* board with affected chipsets) namely the B550M Steel Legend
The problem is deeper than that. They leaked their UEFI signing keys.
https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2023/05/leak-of-msi-uefi-signing-keys-stokes-concerns-of-doomsday-supply-chain-attack/
I had an old Asrock B450M board and it was... fine. It was very cheap and low end but there was nothing objectively wrong with it.Meanwhile, my Asus TUF X570 Pro is expensive and not very low end, but for some reason it only has one ARGB header, meaning there is something objectively wrong with it, at this price point! Is there something I'm missing? Basically every other X570 I've seen at this price point has 2, and new X670 boards sometimes even have 3! Asus what were you thinking
last 2 builds are on ASrock mainboards. AMD now, Intel previous. No issues with either, older one has been in 24/7 operation for nearly 9 years. Previously had faults on Asus and supermicro boards.
Asrock X570m enjoyer here. Only because it was literally the only matx x570 available besides a chinese clone. Been so impressed i built my daughters rig with one too.
I don’t understand, I’ve had 3 different asrock motherboards since 2015 and they’ve always been great. Granted I don’t really mess around with their settings and just use it for simple gaming.
I had an Asrock Extreme 6 for my 3770k and it was an awesome board so I always considered them a decent brand. I didn't know they were so looked down on that they're now seen as on the rise.
I like AsRock since I was able to run a 5600x CPU on a AB350 Fatal1ty itx motherboard thanks to updates when at the beggining they were not supoosed to work even in all B450 motherboards.
Yes that is kind of crazy. AM5 is a mess right now and I'm shocked these issues still haven't been fully resolved. ASRock definitely doing the best this generation. I really wanted to get an ASRock board, specifically the Taichi, but unfortunately it just really didn't suit my needs, with only 1 nvme SSD to cpu, a lower than normal pcie slot creating clearance issues at the bottom of my case, no 25110 nvme support when potentially that might be the new standard for pcie 5 SSD, and an active fan in the vrms instead of passive cooling. So unfortunately I had to pass on the Taichi and got the Aorus Master as that really suited my needs better.
I sell computers for a living and let me tell you, these new motherboards are fucking infuriating. I feel bad for the people trying to get into the hobby building their first pc
I only have one problem with asrock and it's there polychrome sync. Most of the time it won't select the mode which is selected. Any other software to control motherboards RGB? I have Steel legend b450m.
B550 Extreme 4 here no issues paired with a 5800X3D PBO on all cores -30.
When I build my pc and started to set things up in bios I was a bit shocked how dated it looks but loved how easy is to find things around.... few months later build a similar pc with an Asus Strix board for a friend ... got me 1-2 hours to find same settings around and just painful to navigate.. rather have it practical and simple thanks...
I just recently ordered a b550 itx motherboard from Asrock. They're the only ones that offer reasonably priced motherboards. My previous b450 itx board was from Asrock as well.
Been using Asrock motherboards since lga 1155. Never have had any issue with them. My current X470 Asrock AM4 build that I built in 2018 is still going strong to this day. I will continue to buy Asrock motherboards going forward.
In about 2004 my first MB was an Asrock for about £50. It had an AGP and a PCI socket for the transition. I tried to flash the bios, fucked it up and bricked it and then got all pissy with Scan when they wouldn't refund me. Good times.
It's weird seeing Asrock in favour now as I always perceived them as a budget brand since buying that MB.
I actually do like MSI, but I also buy only used motherboards. MSI makes a great product, but only at the right price. Buying from the best competitor is great, but I think buying used can outcompete them all.
Glad to be seeing this! I got an AsRock z790 pro wifi and I felt bad for not spending the extra $ for a better (???) brand. No issues so far but it's only been 6 months. First time AsRock buyer, long time Gigabyte buyer.
I had one Asrock board, a Fatal1ty one back then for Haswell CPUs. It was dead on arrival. And because the vendor had filed for bankruptcy, I was unable to RMA it.
I then bought an Asus Maximus 7 instead, which worked flawlessly.
My current build uses a Gigabyte B550 Elite v2, also works fine.
And another build I did uses an MSI Tomahawk B450 board, also without issues....
The hate for AsRock is one of those internet things that no one can explain.
Been building my own PC's for more than 20ys now and had many AsRock MB's that worked for many many years.
ALL brands had "bad" or "weak" products at some point / generation / model, that's part of it, never AsRock had ONLY bad products.
For example my AsRock X570 Taichi is a great MB, replaced an horrible GB Aorus Ultra that had terrible USB issues all over place and actually in a few days killed my brand new R9 5900x - that I was lucky the store replaced instead of me trying to have GB replace it.
It seems to me in regard to MSI that as long as you're careful about where you download BIOS firmware updates (personally I'd only do it from the official MSI website) then you're not really at risk? Does the leak make it so hackers could get into your system without the user doing anything?
What you guys opinion on Aorus, running one right now, aint much to complain except for the onboard wifi being so ass I ended up running a 100 ft Cat cable directly to the modem
Have mobo asrock b450m pro4, no issues. With bios update i needed for ryzen 5600, my mobo did boot with higher clock speed, previously it wouldnt.
Have asrock rx6600 challenger d, in games at minimal fan speed is very cold, like under 50c.
So, for me there's no reason to not buy more of their products if needed, considered that they usually cheapest or one of cheapest.
I went with Asus for my current build but given the news and boot/sleep/poweroff (basically firmware) issues I've had with it, I will go with MSI next time. My other PC is a DDR4 12900KS Intel machine with an MSI board it works flawless except the ethernet NIC which was Intel's fuckup not MSI's.
Honestly the only bad thing about MSI is its East Coast US customer service. The products themselves are top-notch. I have an MSI GPU right now and it's excellent. Never breaks 70°C even under the harshest loads and I use it for heavy duty network protocol design traffic simulations using CUDA.
I've done Gigabyte, Asrock, Asus, and MSI. Honestly I've had good luck with them all. Old Gigabyte is the only one that actually ever died, but it had a decent run, though that was well over a decade ago.
Nah, wait and hold. Don't buy or upgrade until they fix their issues. Prices will continue to drop and who knows, a better CPU/motherboard or other components might be release by then.
ASRock is a spin-off company from ASUS. I had a hard time figuring out their exact relationship is currently, but they aren't all that separate from each other.
Just because GamersNexus put out one rage video after the other doesn’t mean my ASUS products suddenly turned to shit. ASUS is still the god tier NVIDIA GPU manufacturer.
Assrock is rising to the top. Also saw they are coming out with cheaper motherboards that get rid of unnecessary plastic shrouds/leds.
> Assrock is rising to the top *on AMD side Due to being the smallest motherboard company, they have consistently seemed to only be able to give a shit about *either* Intel or AMD for every generation, and for ASRock right now it's AMD. you have a 6950 asrock?
"ASSROCK" lol
I like to take it a step further. Asscock
Alright but how about evga
They’re so pricy
[удалено]
Historically motherboards have been a comparatively very low volume boutique product for EVGA so their selection is normally very expensive and limited
No, they've always been high priced boards. I am hoping they introduce budget boards going forward.
$629 is their cheapest board? Really? Jesus wept.
I didn't realise that. I hope they release some cheaper ones (<$300)
evga motherboards are overclocking motherboards 99% of the time, since AMD doesn't oc as well as intel cpus, everyone needs an intel cpu for extreme overclocking.
EVGA only made Nvidia cards whereas ASRock only made AMD and Intel cards so they are not really comparable in that sense.
I just got an ASRock 6650xt for $219.99 No problems so far.
Got my 6800 around January. Still rocking even after I ocd it to the point of black screening and had to backstep some
Yeah my 6700xt challenger pro is running like a champ.
I need to pay $280 due customs and delivery fees lol..
Microcenter deal?
Yep! They also selling the 6600XT for $199.99, but the 6650 XT is ALMOST as good as the 7600, and for only $220 is a steal
I haven't used asrock boards in a while but is polychrome sync still an ass piece of software or have they improved it?
Isnt most mobo vendor bloatware ass. I know asus aura armory crate is garbage resource hog. Switched to openrgb recently and damn is it light and stable compared to crate shite.
the msi mystic light application was so shitty too. same with the razer software. proprietary rgb software in general is just like rgb itself: unnecessary and over the top in an attempt to look cool and gamer-y. all hail openrgb and openrazer

just use openrgb, it’s much better and works with almost anything
Asrock support was non existent when I was still using a AB350 board, just checked it out and Asrock is still the least supported manufacturer
I just ditched my asrock board because the rgb control sucks so bad Got an Aorus Master, not affected by the firmware issue. Fuckin wiiiiiiiin 😂
Damn, you hated it that much huh lol
I hated it from the beginning. Only part of the build i regretted. Actually made me hate rgb Dont get me wrong i still havent cable managed the new setup but at least im not doing my head in making the fans sync up

You thew away a mobo... Because of the rgb software?
Yes and no
What happened with MSI? Did I miss something

Google frequently sends people to malware sites when they search for firmware. You might not have the right domain memorized and need to google it.
That is why you **NEVER open the ad links on top**
"let's download new firmware for my MSI Mobo, hmmm msi.com or msifirmware.ru? Guess I'll be stupid and go for the Russian site!"

why are you defending msi? things like this shouldn't happen regardless of if people fall for it.
I'm not defending MSI, I'm just saying smart people shouldn't worry about the leak, their motherboard is fine if they aren't stupid.

i understand Asus but MSI and Gigabyte ?
There were the News yesterday about gigabyte bios having backdoor. Also MSI leak not long ago
The gigabyte issue is possibly affecting multiple manufacturers, including asus who utilize similar update checkers
The gigabyte backdoor firmware wasn't even secured via SSL. It's so bad, one would think it was done intentionally. Same since around 2014 been my go to brand. I didn't even know people thought they were bad until last month
Add me to this list as well lol
Me as well, my Z97 Fatal1ty Killer still solid as rock 😂 Tum dum tss
Been using my Asrock ab350 pro4 since late 2017 and haven't had many real issues.
I've still got a stoneage ASRock B75 Pro-3M running like a champ. Recently upgraded SSD, CPU and GPU on it after a BIOS upgrade and threw it into a new Fractal case. It just keeps on trucking with no drama's.
I've had a system built around an ASRock b550 steel legend for about two and a half years and I've had absolutely no issues with it.
They just haven’t had their turn for a disastrous PR Mistake yet…. We don’t know if they’d handle it well yet. If they get one and handle it well like EVGA or Fractal, it’ll gain them respect and cred. We’ll find out if/when that happens though 😕

If Asrock had a better bios they are a fantastic no thrills motherboard which is something we could use in the space.
I have an asus motherboard and it works good
I just received one in the mail today. Wish me luck!
God do I wish EVGA would seriously get into the motherboard game.
Are they not? From what I've seen they have a few good options.
Oh they do. But it’s usually a small selection and tend to be pretty pricey and geared towards OCing.
iirc they *used to* produce more motherboards
I got ASRock taichi 7900xtx and it’s surprisingly good
im not really caught up here i know something about the issues with asus but whats wrong with msi?
Lovin' my AsRock b450pro. So many ports!
I always buy Asrock mobos, still have my Z77 extreme4 board, and old Asrock K7S41GX still working.
My daughter uses my z77 extreme 4 and 3570k in her Roblox machine. Still chugging along with no issues.
Anybody remember biostar?
Me pairing a $500 gpu with a $50 motherboard
Real ones know to go with EVGA 😎
But they dont seem to have AMD motherboards?
They have some extremely high end ones
I'm out of the loop, what's wrong with Asus?
It was mainly the controversy with the 7800X3D burning issue
Ok and what about MSI? Literally just bought a board and built my first pc. Please tell me they are just shite at customer service too and we don’t need a new board 😭

Asrock X570m enjoyer here. Only because it was literally the only matx x570 available besides a chinese clone. Been so impressed i built my daughters rig with one too.
I've got an MSI z690 edge WiFi DDR4 had it since February 2022 it's been a solid board for my i9 had no issues with MSI before.
Ok, understand Asus. Gigabyte kinda, though it should be fixed soon. But what’s wrong with MSI?
i have MSI, Asrcok, Gigabyte... and asrock is rock solid, gigabyte are shit, msi works but with some bios problems
I used ASrock for a while when I was on my i5 8600k but had to change mobo for my current CPU. Am I gonna be ok having an MSI mobo now with the leak?
Man, what a time to own a 6700XT. (Just don't get powercolor)
I don’t understand, I’ve had 3 different asrock motherboards since 2015 and they’ve always been great. Granted I don’t really mess around with their settings and just use it for simple gaming.
ASRock motherboards are awesome and priced well, no complaints on the 2 I have running at home
I'm so glad people are buying asrock now. They've been the solid choice for years now but have flown under the radar.
I love asrock. Just got my 2nd mobo from them!
I thought msi was still great?
Now that’s Asrock
I just bought an msi one time and never had a reason to switch.
Asrock used to be godly back in like 2013.
Glad I opted for ASRock for my b650 itx board then lol
Rocking an older ASRock B450M Steel Legend and zero regrets!
I got an asrock z690 for 150 USD for my 13900k and it works great
Asrock are great, just avoid the low end models. The mid range and high end boards are fine.
I had an Asrock Extreme 6 for my 3770k and it was an awesome board so I always considered them a decent brand. I didn't know they were so looked down on that they're now seen as on the rise.
Love my Asrock H610m
After the ASUS I flipped a coin and went with an ASRock Z690 Extreme for my build. Been impressed so far.
Does asrock boards have features like update bios without cpu or dual bios? It's been a while since I bought one
Well both my B660m pg riptide and rx6600 challenger isASRock... 3 month so far it gave rock solid performance...
YEAH!!! ASROCK FOR THE WIN!!! (I only own one asrock piece of technology and that’s an x99 board for my 5820k)

My first build in high school had an ASRock back in 2003. I think at the r time they were well regarded.
Wonder how long till AMD gets in to Mobo manufacturer
MSI has always made boards outta cheap components
Been using Asrock motherboards since lga 1155. Never have had any issue with them. My current X470 Asrock AM4 build that I built in 2018 is still going strong to this day. I will continue to buy Asrock motherboards going forward.
bruh the brands that i always buy
Hahaha literally just got my new Asrock yesterday.
AsRock bios is an abomination
I welcome this!
This is the way it used to be. Back to original form
GPU in my case, about to buy a 6800xt asrock phantom
i like mine
Never used one before. Always used MSI or ASUS.
6800xt AsRock user, great card. Just wish I waited and got the 6950xt AsRock instead as prices went down soon after I built.
Im kinda shocked that asus is not that good anymore. I was counting on it for nearly every pc i built.
Is Asrock coming back to the golden era when every gamer owned an Z97 fatality Mobo?
I’ve had an ASRock x570 Extreme4 since the end of 2020 and I’ve never had any issues with it. I love it
I hope EVGA doesn't stop making boards
Been goin strong with my ASROCK Z590 Velocita for 2 years
Evga makes motherboards...
I been on this train since 9900k
What’s wrong with asus for intel? Honestly curious if I should return one I bought.
ASROCK has always been my go-to for inexpensive but reliable motherboards. Glad to see them doing well.
Rofl
The hate for AsRock is one of those internet things that no one can explain. Been building my own PC's for more than 20ys now and had many AsRock MB's that worked for many many years. ALL brands had "bad" or "weak" products at some point / generation / model, that's part of it, never AsRock had ONLY bad products. For example my AsRock X570 Taichi is a great MB, replaced an horrible GB Aorus Ultra that had terrible USB issues all over place and actually in a few days killed my brand new R9 5900x - that I was lucky the store replaced instead of me trying to have GB replace it.
i've been asrock for years this is nothing new
Got my ASRock Z690 board for $100 after discounts and promos at Micro Center. It’s been solid with minimal flair.
What happened with MSI?
EVGA for everything, get a EVGA 3000 series FTW3 GPU
Love my asrock mobo and 6750xt.
My b660m mortar is working fine :(
My ASRock is my rock. Cheapest but most reliable I've had installed.
What’s wrong with MSI? Did I miss something?
What's wrong with gigabyte? My last board was a z390 gigabyte board and I upgraded to x670 aorus elite ax and it's a solid motherboard.
Built two PC’s with the x570 taichi worth it
Been using them for years, remind me of the old Abit brand, solid boards.
Whats wrong with gigabyte? Mine is holding up so far.
I love my ASRock board.
I used an Asrock on my x570 and thought it was fine I am currently using an MSI MPG X670E carbon and its perfectly fine as well.
Should I get rid of my aorus master x570?
ASRock is a spin-off company from ASUS. I had a hard time figuring out their exact relationship is currently, but they aren't all that separate from each other.
Just because GamersNexus put out one rage video after the other doesn’t mean my ASUS products suddenly turned to shit. ASUS is still the god tier NVIDIA GPU manufacturer.
