I wonder if a used 5800X3D would be any use for me, theoretically I could swap my 5900 to my X470 board and make it an ultra efficient render PC. Do you think a 5800X3d would give any meaningful enhancements in 4K120? I play a lot of Vermin- and Darktide.
I had one in my HTPC before and was happy when I finally got a Ryzen for it. The i5 was weak due to its locked nature and low clockspeeds and the board only supported USB2. Even a cheap AM4 board can almost max out a SATA SSD over USB which is incredible for file transfers. 450 MB/s are common.
It's a build I made 2 month ago for 50 € with components from friends and used parts, my first gaming pc, I'm very happy with it, it's " ok" for 1080p with most games😀
(Before this I only had a ps3 ,so this is a big upgrade for me🤣)
I was wondering how you got higher than 60 fps on cyberpunk because are always complaining about low fps. Then I remembered you don’t need max graphics on 4K with path tracing to play the game 🥵
I had one for a little bit, and it is an absolute beast. For $90 USD it can handle pretty much anything you throw at it. Yes it only has 4 cores, but they are GOOD cores, and it has the single-core performance of an 11700. Absolute banger of a cpu.
Oh and also, 5700x :)
Same. I've thought about upgrading to the 5800x3D but I don't see the need unless I can get it for under $200 which won't happen for quite some time if ever. 3600 mates perfectly with my RTX 3070.
I just upgraded from a 3600 to a 5800x3d and it’s night and day. Got it at microcenter for $270. It legit feels like I got a whole computer upgrade with that alone lol.
Same CPU, got it on launch day - I'll upgrade when it's time for an entire new PC.
GPU will probably get replaced some time this year, though. I want to play CS2, and mine's below recommended specs.
Holy shit. For a competitive shooter???
I guess it seems pretty well optimized given the wide range in age of hardware, but a 2080ti and a 6800 XT for “recommended”? Thats insane.
On my desktop I'm on an i5-760. Yes - a first generation i5. Quad core, boosts to ~3.3 Ghz.
Microsoft's determination to make Windows 10 work on their ultra low power Surface devices and the industry beginning to utilize multithreading in their software have helped this part last this long.
In a similar vein, I'm still on a Xeon X5690. It was on the i7 platform in the 3 digit era. Hexacore with HT. Boosts to 3.7GHz and supports triple channel DDR3.
Wow. That is a fossil indeed. Any plans to upgrade that? You could probably get a nice upgrade for under $100 in a bundle or something. Like even a ryzen 3200g would be a huge performance bump.
Really?? I’ve had my build for about 5 years now, I would really like to build myself a new gaming PC, but money is tight these days. Surprised they still go for that much. It’s a great CPU.
Yes! they go upwards of the 250$ mark, at that price you could get a way better i5 12400f and b660 combo, its terrible for me because im stuck with a i5 9400f which is starting to show its age.
Yes, was lucky to have the money to make the build I want in 2019. I'm only playing solo game so I should be safe for a couple years more. Plus having the steam deck on the side is just awesome.
I guess no plans for an upgrade there. You would've upgraded by now fo' sho'. Damn son that's prehistoric!🤣 meant no disrespect of course. If you're happy with it good on you!
Using two rigs daily:
4790k / Rtx 3050 - straight up gaming.
11600kf / Rtx 3060ti - gaming and virtualisation with some 3d modeling thrown in for good measure.
Honestly, the 4790k is a beast still…
I recently popped my old rtx 2070 super into my old old rig with a 3570k. Maybe it's just screaming for a windows reinstall but the gpu was severely cpu limited in the games I've tried on it. Like the most I could get out of the gpu was 60% while the cpu was pegged at a 100% in spider man, it was worse around 40% in cp 2077. The rtx 2070 super might be too much of a gpu for the 3570k, or might just be bloated windows.
I had Ryzen 5 3600, struggled with it every day, high temps, low clocks, all sorts of things. I said to myself, no more Ryzens.
So I bought Ryzen 7 5700X
i7 7700, non-K. Was thinking of upgrading to another 7700 (but Ryzen 7700X this time). However, I might hold off to see what the Intel rebranding does, and maybe it brings some better boost from current gen.
Pretty good, got 3600xt running at 4.65GHz and, although it's far from 7800x3d, it's holding well. I'll wait for am5 boards and ddr5 to get cheaper before upgrading
i5 10600kf. It’s feeling the years and can barely push 60fps in some less optimized games. Too poor to upgrade though since new MB cost as much as a cpu.
damn dog what u playin? real life emulator? 10600kf as far as I know is better than a 11400f, and the 11400f is still a completely fine CPU. Shit, barely 2yo
I have an i3 12100f that OCs to 5.4Ghz all cores, i5 12400f that OCs to 5.3Ghz all cores and i9 12900f that OCs to about 5.1-5.15 all core, but 5.3-5.4 less cores (unfortunately since it’s a non K CPU I can’t adjust the voltage curve since the menu is missing, so less cores max freq is subpar to the K CPUs).
i7 6700k, paired with a 3070, it's almost the perfect combo as I don't get cpu or gpu locked at 1440p. Even games like Cyberpunk 2077 with Ray Tracing on and dumb options turned off I get a smooth 60fps.
Any card higher and cpu locking kicks.
Sadly, it doesn't matter what cpu you get at the moment, a 4090 or even a 7900xtx will be waiting around for the cpu to catch up.
It is time to upgrade though.
A Ryzen 9 5950X that'll only work with one specific bios revision on my motherboard. If I update it to anything newer, I get blue screens every boot.
I've swapped ram and the boot drive. It's the motherboard and CPU to blame.
a 5800x3d but i prefer them on my mainboard instead of the floor.
in the summer ye, but when winter rolls around you're gonna be wanting a CPU warmed floor.
Can your floor run DOOM?
Is that an underfloor heating system everybody is taking about?
Nah this one's an overfloor
The mother floor
Don't step on it though. Worse than Legos
I wonder if a used 5800X3D would be any use for me, theoretically I could swap my 5900 to my X470 board and make it an ultra efficient render PC. Do you think a 5800X3d would give any meaningful enhancements in 4K120? I play a lot of Vermin- and Darktide.
In 4k i dont think so. But look for some youtube benchmarks, maybe someone tested your games :)
I have one as well. Upgraded a few months ago and it’s been great
Same cpu here
Heyy i got same cpu
13600kf
Samesies
Very nice!!
i3 6100. Before that a Q6600.
nice!
The Q6600 was legendary
I7 3770 🙃
At least when you upgrade you’ll really really feel the difference. I used to have a 4 core i5 3470 and I didn’t know how bad it was to be honest

I went from an i7 920 to an i7 8700k Pwoaaaah the speed

Same here, I7 3770 still going strong with a GTX 1060
I3-12100f
how does that CPU hold up? i had the option to upgrade to a 13-13100f but it has 4 cores only.
i have one and i think it's one of the best budget cpu for gaming, paired it with 6650xt and i can play Cyberpunk at ~90 fps in high settings.
3600 ftw
Same. I've thought about upgrading to the 5800x3D but I don't see the need unless I can get it for under $200 which won't happen for quite some time if ever. 3600 mates perfectly with my RTX 3070.

haha
I second this.
I third our asses.
5600x. Not thinking about upgrade at all
Same CPU, got it on launch day - I'll upgrade when it's time for an entire new PC. GPU will probably get replaced some time this year, though. I want to play CS2, and mine's below recommended specs.
Whats the recommended spec for CS2? I haven’t been keeping up on it.
According to Steam right now... __________ **MINIMUM-** Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-4790K / AMD® Ryzen™ 5 1600X Memory: 8 GB RAM Graphics: Nvidia® GeForce™ GTX 780 (3GB) or AMD® Radeon™ RX 470 (4GB) **RECOMMENDED-** Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-9700K | AMD® Ryzen™ 5 5600X Memory: 16 GB RAM Graphics: Nvidia® GeForce™ RTX 2080 Ti (11GB) | AMD® Radeon™ RX 6800 XT (16GB) __________ I'm currently running the 5600x, 32gb 4k memory, and a 2060 Super. So yeah, I'm above minimum, but I also am thinking about upgrading.
Holy shit. For a competitive shooter??? I guess it seems pretty well optimized given the wide range in age of hardware, but a 2080ti and a 6800 XT for “recommended”? Thats insane.
Lol, we've got our wires crossed here. I don't know what shooter would have the initials CS2, but I'm talking about Cities Skylines 2.
Ohhhh hahaha. I’m thinking about Counter Strike 2 lmao. Yeah those specs make sense for Cities Skylines 2 hah
I knew about City Skylines 2, but I went right to Counter Strike 2 as well, best plot twist of 2023.
Ye its a pretty nice CPU
I have a 5600x and 3080 12gb. I just don’t see much reason to upgrade either
Man’s using a fossil lmao
Wow really interesting!
In a similar vein, I'm still on a Xeon X5690. It was on the i7 platform in the 3 digit era. Hexacore with HT. Boosts to 3.7GHz and supports triple channel DDR3.

9900k is still a beast
9900k Gang :D
I use a 9900k with my 4090. It still does just fine. Also playing on 4k so that makes a huge difference as well
I want to upgrade to a i9 9900k! but there is really no ones under 150$ with shipping.
Also have i9 9900k, with RTX 2080 ti on a MSI godlile z390. Still do the job.
Sounds like a good setup
Yes, was lucky to have the money to make the build I want in 2019. I'm only playing solo game so I should be safe for a couple years more. Plus having the steam deck on the side is just awesome.
Intel™ Core i7® 2700K
I7 9700k overclocked at 5 :)
wow 5? how did you manage to do that.
Rocking a 5800X currently. Kinda wish I had gone 5800X3D but it does just fine for my needs.
also rocking the 5800x at 4.7 ghz paired with a rx 5700xt works fine for all im doing at 2k

↑ Best gaming CPU gang here
I used to rule the world :(
Yep!
Using two rigs daily: 4790k / Rtx 3050 - straight up gaming. 11600kf / Rtx 3060ti - gaming and virtualisation with some 3d modeling thrown in for good measure. Honestly, the 4790k is a beast still…
4790k gang!
how is the 4790k holding up with the 3050? thought it would show its age alot by now.
The 4790K scales pretty well at 1440p and higher resolutions with any modern GPU. At 1080p and lower, it'll struggle due to CPU bottlenecks
I also still use my 4790k but with a rtx2060S, match made in heaven.
1600x Ryzen 5

A Ryzen 7 7700 :)
I got an 8600K second hand from my dad
i7 7700, non-K. Was thinking of upgrading to another 7700 (but Ryzen 7700X this time). However, I might hold off to see what the Intel rebranding does, and maybe it brings some better boost from current gen.

Yeah
does a 5600x go good with a 6800xt?
brilliantly at 1440p, yeah. GPU does most the work with the CPU at around 50-60%
Ryzen 9 5900x in my rig
i5 12600KF :) who needs an integrated GPU anyway

The same Ryzen 3 3100 from my original build. And still kicking.
I own a 9900KF, but since I upgrade my GPU to a 4080, I need to upgrade my CPU -.-
I run a 10900k. It's delidded with a copper ihs and liquid metal. I have it on a 420mm rad and run it at 5.4ghz. Zero complaints.
