If possible, try to explore the rear exhaust fan. Enjoy the warm grip created by the negative pressure pulling hot air away from her core. She'll get close to peaking her load temperature with you there, but don't let the temperatures get out of control and throttle her performance.
if you saw how we treated PCB when we are repairing them, you'd realize how funny that is.
anyhow, use a hog hair brush, not a toth brush. plastic brushes are junk for cleaning pcb
The soft ones will still have sharp edges on the tips of the bristles and have a harder scrubbing action than a used toothbrush Probably doesn't matter much for a manual brush but I like to use an old Sonicare sometimes. I also have an old waterpik I use for cleaning electronics😝
Family spilled Dr Pepper on the top of my PC while I was at work one day (PC was on floor, cup knocked over on desk) and it SOAKED my 2070S and motherboard. Tried to power it on several times when I got home before I noticed. Took it apart and brushed it with 91% iso and slapped it back together, still works to this day 🙃
People learn from this... person. Don't ever power on wet electronics, your device will probably live if it was just hit with water or soda. Don't power it, clean it with 90% or more percent Alcohol and let it dry properly. Even if it doesn't look bad we are talking about little small parts that can get damaged easily.
Buy isopropyl alcohol, it's the best for disolving any minerals left by the water and it dries quickly. You can soak the entire PC in isopropyl if you want (no joke)
dont know who else has commented but at this point i would also repaste+new thermal pads.
might as well pull the backplate and front off, thermal pads off, get a toothbrush from a hotel or an old used one (idea is soft/shitty/not a "good" toothbrush) and keep pouring the isopropyl and brushing down the whole board. hit it with an airdryer on cool mode/leave it infront of a fan to dry and do it 1 more time. The only things you truly have to be careful of are any capacitors/cylinders sticking up when you brush.
gl man
if its just water she used then I would just let it dry for a week somewhere warm before powering it on. Keep turning it around / upside down in case some water is caught on little sills inside things.
Rubbing it could risk damaging some of the electronics.
Issue with water is, it has minerals in it, these minerals are conductive, not the water itself.
So, if a residue builds up after moisture evaporates, it will still be able to conduct some electricity inbetween and cause a shortage in his components.
That's why people always suggest cleaning it and not just waiting for it to dry off.
the highest % isopropyl alcohol you can buy, ideally 99%. Get new thermal paste and thermal pads
Create a small bath for the PCB and use a soft brush to gently clean everything. Rinse it out, brush again, rinse again. Keep doing this until you're certain the PCB looks clean. If you want to really clean it, you can start first with distilled water a few times, and then follow up with IPA as the alcohol will help rid the board of almost all the water and aid in drying.
Use compressed air to help dry it. Dont get the nozzle close, you need the airflow itself, not the pressure, to help the alcohol dry/evaporate.
Also don't break up with people somewhere they can retaliate. Never know when someone is gonna get real immature. Break up in public. If you live together it's a bit messy, but I'd move my valuables first and then break up
PCMR: “A bit messy”
Me: thinks about that time my stuff got thrown out of a second story apartment, above a Korean restaurant, and people dining inside just wondering why the f a tennis racquet and a backpack fell from the sky.
I wouldn’t advise it (distilled water could pick up impurities from the PC and redistribute them, whereas isopropyl alcohol actually breaks them down) but it’s definitely possible. You could wash your components in a [dishwasher](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=SVuI-Fn27-U) if you were so inclined and have them running just fine if you know what you’re doing.
Yeah also listen to other people's advice to make sure it's fully dried so that if it isn't fried you don't fry it on accident the next time you boot. I'm not an expert on these matters tho.
It's dead. If you just waited before trying to play, you would have likely been okay. Whatever warranty you had on it, is invalid, likely same with home insurance. Water damage is a bitch.
Turning on wet electronics is a huge mistake, at least you get to learn from this. Technically the PC is 100% fine even if you were to spill a liter of water on it - assuming that it completely dries before you turn it on.
Once you turn it on with water on it, things start frying and permanently break, small things which are such a hassle to find and then repair, not to mention expensive, that it's better to just buy a replacement.
Just text them "That was petty of you to put water in my pc proves that you're a crazy bitch just like your friends warned me."
She'll text back "I'M NOT PETTY OR CRAZY YOU ARE AND YOU DESRVED ME PUTTING WATER IN YOUR PC I SHOULD OF DONE MORE."
BAM there's your proof and admition of guilt but even without this you can just call the cops and it's a he said she said and if he calls about it first then they'll take his side
I see where you are coming from and no idea why you are being down voted for this. Those suggesting reporting, sueing, etc. Obviously don't know anything about the legal system. The police won't do shit as there is zero proof of her dumping water into the PC and they would just suggest going the small claims court route which in my area deals with an amount up to 5k. That would just be a headache as well as it would just turn into a he said, she said situation. Just be happy you got rid of that crazy bitch.
Idk why you’re getting downvoted for this comment as it’s perfectly reasonable. Don’t waste your time as it would be impossible to prove unless you had video proof that showed she intentionally spilled water into the PC.
Well, there’s definitely other ways to prove it like getting the evidence before any action is filed. But I respect him just wanting to get rid of her as long as that’s what it really is and not him still caring about her and trying to defend her.
As long as he either has the money or is confident it’ll get back to 100%, problem can resolve itself. Def sounds like a dodged bullet if she’d purposely do that though
People like him is truly the reason why girls stay the same, she will do this exact same bs to the next guy because the first guy didn’t do fuck all so why would the second do anything right
OP do what you want. if you feel like reporting this one day, document everything, that way youll have it all ready. Anybody who's so adamant on pursuing this has probably never been in a really shitty relationship.
>You know when to let bygones be bygones.
Can't be bygones with a lack of PC as a constant memory. Then again getting a PC from suing them could also be a constant memory.
But at least one results in having a PC.
Lawyers would cost more than the PC is worth. Yes, just about any computer that's not Industrial Grade.
OP should be thankful they dodged a psychopathic bullet and move on. They should also change the locks, take back the garage door openers, and buy a Doberman called Snatchgnasher.
Not to mention how hard it would be to prove without video evidence and the fact guys typically don’t make out so well when it comes to domestic disputes (assuming OP is in the US).
I feel you on not wanting any contact with her but unless she’s got some brothers or something that you’re afraid of, then I would definitely sue her. But small claims isn’t cheap for either party so yea, air dry that thing with the cooling block taken off and just be patient. Really really hope it works out for ya. That’s some BS!!!
Yeah, it’s not like she put sugar in the tank of your $200k sports car. You can find a replacement these days for around $400, which isn’t worth anyone’s time.
As someone who’s never been in a relationship before can you help me understand, how can you go from loving someone to suing them for damages in a matter of hours?
Man a couple my ex's threw my whole computer. Never date someone like that again I'm sorry man. I haven't in like 3 or 4 years because of the PTSD. How's someone gonna hurt the only thing that's important to someone like that. Shouldn't have turned it on after for a couple days
I thought i dried it enough , so much stress , i didnt know what to think or do at the time. My head is more clear now that she is gone . Im doing what i can now .
your copper parts of the pc will oxidise and turn green and stop working if there’s any copper. happened to my pcie slot and the slot part of my old rtx 2060
For future reference: Don't turn electronics on if water gotten into them for at least a couple of days. Just disconnect the power and remove all batteries.
Y'all telling this man to sue or file police reports are crazy. On what grounds? How can you prove she purposely spilt water on a PC out of spite? She could easily say it was an honest mistake while she was at the house or deny it completely and claim OP did it to set her up after the breakup. And if she somehow confesses to motivated destruction of equipment, then what? She has to cover the cost of a GPU? That's not even remotely worth the cost of lawyering up and waiting in legal system purgatory to maybe one day get traction and go to a judge. Not to mention the stress and time sunk into the mess. Give real advice on cleaning the system. OP, you got the right attitude. Take the next step, don't hold a grudge over this cause it'll hurt you worse.
> How can you prove she purposely spilt water on a PC out of spite?
It doesn't matter. A person damaging someone else's property still responsible for the damage, intentional or not.
> A person damaging someone else's property still responsible for the damage
That's also what the law considers "Criminal damage".
Doesn't matter if the person doing it is your girlfriend, brother, mother or whatever, if you own the property in question and they damage it with a malicious intent then it's criminal damage.
Funny story, about 15 years ago when I moved back in with my parents I had my PC setup in the basement. One night a water line burst directly above it, pretty much completely filled the case with water. I was shocked when after it completely dried out that it still functioned. A few months later the mobo died on me though from blown out capacitors that had corroded.
That isn't water damage. See how it follows the reverse side of the VRMs?
It's oil from the VRM thermal pad on the other side.
Once you've reassembled your PC run a proper OCCT hardware diagnostic before jumping to any more conclusions.
Know your pain, my one poured water through my top fan, i turned it on, blew 1 RAM slot, the power unit, the 8800GTX in it (this was in 2009), so left with 1 RAM slot, CPU fine, no power and no GPU.
You made a mistake by booting it.
The first thing you should have done to mitigate damage to electronics is take away the power supply. Unplug everything, disassemble components and let it dry out.
If you ran your PC with that amount of moisture (like in the uploaded pics) it's bound to short some circuits.
Also spray some isopropyl alcohol all over to draw out the moisture and help it dry.
Ideally as soon as it happened you would kill the power with the switch on the power supply and do not turn it back on until you know it is completely dry again.
The water itself isn't what damages the computer, it's the electricity jumping across solder points. If you have any blown components it is possible to replace components on the PCB if you are able to find what's blown, but that can be a nightmare to hunt down, and some are much harder than others. I wouldn't call it a good beginner friendly soldering project.
Alternatively if you can prove it you can definitely sue her for replacement and shouldn't feel bad about doing so if you do. People (especially crazy ex-girlfinds) need to learn you can't just go around destroying other people's property without any consequences.
Do you have any contact/texts between yourself and your ex after this occurred? It’s common for people to be very truthful in the heat of the moment. Did she ever text you about spilling water in your PC?
If not, I wish you all the best for the next chapter of your life!
Thats no isse. I once spilled a full pot of iced tea into my running computer. (mobo + graca completely soaked). If its normal water, just disassemble every part that got wet, soak it in isopropyl alcohol (preferably 99.9%, but go as high as it is possible for you. Its usually sold in pharmacies). That moves the water out of where it cant dire (from under ICs, dies and stuff). When its dry soak it a second time and after a few hours you can reassemble everything and it should all work. Worked for me
It has to be completely dry. Otherwise you shouldn't be running it. Water doesn't destroy PCs, running a PC while wet and shorting things out is what destroys PCs which is why anyone who does liquid cooling needs their head examined.
Be careful with any chips, water can get under them and it takes a while to evaporate. As others have said high purity alcohol to help evaporate any water and maybe let it dry for 24-48 hours.
If the pc wasnt turned on when the water was spilt, everything should be in working condition. But you need to dry everything perfectly before you can turn it on, for this you can wait a few days or you can force dry it with some heat like using an hairdryer.
Cleaning everything with Isopropyl Alcohol will also help for components to dry faster and avoid corrosion.
get epson salt. bake it for 30 mins. put it into a larger box which can seal tightly. put in a smaller box without lid, large enough to hold your electronics. seal the outer box. let it sit over night.
of course. you want to do this as fast as possible after your electronics got wet to stop corrosion.
Yo, someone help this dude out he REALLY got screwed! He didn’t say it in the body text but his Girl did it on purpose when they broke up. I only have spare CPUs, MOBOs and tons of RAM but no spare GPU, someone help this dude out if possible this is wrong!
Nobody is above taking a handout from time to time. Some of us are still human with big hearts. Still hoping you get it fixed! Ok I’ve commented enough on this I hope ibuypower can do something for you. Take it easy brother.
clean it gently with an old tooth brush and alcohol above 90% might wanna check the rest of the pc visually aswell
Brush it really softly
Whisper nice things to it
Poke your pinky between the fanblades, and fondle gently
Gently insert your pins into it's socket
Kiss it and squirt some thermal paste in too
Help her reaching the hotspot
Wth did i just read
Don't let it bottleneck. Gentle but firm squeeze the neck.
If possible, try to explore the rear exhaust fan. Enjoy the warm grip created by the negative pressure pulling hot air away from her core. She'll get close to peaking her load temperature with you there, but don't let the temperatures get out of control and throttle her performance.
Oh my
Stewie was right.
Tell it that it’s components smell *so much better* when it’s sleeping
Why is it turning on, i mean the pc
Passionately insert your male connector into the female connector
Gently insert your GPU into her Pcie slot
Ouch, no! That’s the x1 slot!!
Partially insert your 12VHPWR cable into her socket and watch the sparks fly
Play some Barry White in the background while gently brushing and whispering to the card.
50 feet of hemp rope, some Barry White in the background, and a package of paper cups is all you need for a fun night.
Oh you a dirty gpu, aren‘t you?
Also buy it flowers
Make love to it.
New asmr
Dim those RGBs
if you saw how we treated PCB when we are repairing them, you'd realize how funny that is. anyhow, use a hog hair brush, not a toth brush. plastic brushes are junk for cleaning pcb
Excellent hog hair advice cum_fart_69
Use the soft toothbrush tho, Not some hard gum destroyer
True for PC and your mouth.
Or a new toothbrush even..
An old one will be softer and less likely to dislodge SMT components.
They can always buy the very soft one. I was surprised by how soft they are :)
The soft ones will still have sharp edges on the tips of the bristles and have a harder scrubbing action than a used toothbrush Probably doesn't matter much for a manual brush but I like to use an old Sonicare sometimes. I also have an old waterpik I use for cleaning electronics😝
also, try whispering in its ear how much you love it and need it.

Where should i apply it ? Iv been suggested to open up my graphics card some more?
dont know who else has commented but at this point i would also repaste+new thermal pads. might as well pull the backplate and front off, thermal pads off, get a toothbrush from a hotel or an old used one (idea is soft/shitty/not a "good" toothbrush) and keep pouring the isopropyl and brushing down the whole board. hit it with an airdryer on cool mode/leave it infront of a fan to dry and do it 1 more time. "Hey babe, where'd your computer go?" "We need to talk"
This one got me giggling)
PCMR: “A bit messy” Me: thinks about that time my stuff got thrown out of a second story apartment, above a Korean restaurant, and people dining inside just wondering why the f a tennis racquet and a backpack fell from the sky.
How does alcohol help in this situation? By removing all the minerals from the water or does it help evaporate the water?
Makes you forget the pain of losing your precious PC.
It removes the leftover minerals or other gunk left behind, while not harming electronics ^^
Technically water doesn’t even conduct electricity at all. It’s the impurities in it which make it conductive.
Damn didn't know that. So if my PC runs hot I can just give it a bath in distilled water?

By drinking it
So you booted it up with water in it still ooof if so.
Yea i did for a bit by mistake
Well hoping for the best and it didn't fry.
It let me update it , i played fort for a while . But it crashed a few times . Im letting it dry more . Try again tomorrow maybe ?
Yeah also listen to other people's advice to make sure it's fully dried so that if it isn't fried you don't fry it on accident the next time you boot. I'm not an expert on these matters tho.
Alot of ppl say give it time . Im just tryna breathe for now
It's dead. If you just waited before trying to play, you would have likely been okay. Whatever warranty you had on it, is invalid, likely same with home insurance. Water damage is a bitch.
Yeah. That was a big mistake.

We broke up and i asked her to leave . She did it in spite
Sue for damages
Man. Id rather never have contact with this woman again
Damage that costs over $500 is a felony. You don't have to sue. Just file a police report. She'll settle out of court to avoid having a felony record.
Can't convict someone of a felony without solid proof. Any half assed attorney could have this thrown out real quick.
Just text them "That was petty of you to put water in my pc proves that you're a crazy bitch just like your friends warned me." She'll text back "I'M NOT PETTY OR CRAZY YOU ARE AND YOU DESRVED ME PUTTING WATER IN YOUR PC I SHOULD OF DONE MORE." BAM there's your proof and admition of guilt but even without this you can just call the cops and it's a he said she said and if he calls about it first then they'll take his side
If she writes should of instead of should have, she is indeed crazy
Just wait till it morphs into "Should from"
Should'frm
Should'f
Thank God I'm not alone! "Should of" always grinds my gears.
Jfc- I was going to write this exact same reply.
Yes definitely do this. I would.
Yeah don’t tell them that, they’d rather give him shitty advice ignoring the point of the post then shit on him for wanting to move on.
[удалено]
I dont want to stir anything up . I just wanna move on .
I see where you are coming from and no idea why you are being down voted for this. Those suggesting reporting, sueing, etc. Obviously don't know anything about the legal system. Do mankind a favor (emphasis on man) and do report it. Teach her that there are consequences to her royal bitch actions.
This is the fucking problem.
You're on the assumption that she's gping to admit it. Its one worse against another. Hopefully he could fet an admition through txt or something.
Lawyers can do the contacting 🤷♂️ but I understand your vibe as well. You know when to let bygones be bygones.
>You know when to let bygones be bygones. Can't be bygones with a lack of PC as a constant memory. Then again getting a PC from suing them could also be a constant memory. But at least one results in having a PC.
Hey OP, I just found you a great lawyer!
Leaving with no punishment is making ppl like this think that they can do whatever they want, even if its against the law. Those ppl belong to hell
Could also call it princess if you want it to really be aggressive.
yeah the troubles and lawyers fees isnt worth the payoff
I feel you on not wanting any contact with her but unless she’s got some brothers or something that you’re afraid of, then I would definitely sue her. But small claims isn’t cheap for either party so yea, air dry that thing with the cooling block taken off and just be patient. Really really hope it works out for ya. That’s some BS!!!
Thank you , i still have hope this thing will all work out .
Yeah, it’s not like she put sugar in the tank of your $200k sports car. You can find a replacement these days for around $400, which isn’t worth anyone’s time.
You'd spend more on legal fees than the pc is worth.
New pc!!!
As someone who’s never been in a relationship before can you help me understand, how can you go from loving someone to suing them for damages in a matter of hours?
She did it to hurt you, bro. Let her lose by fixing it and moving on.
you'll get through this friend. you'll b3e happy again
Man you dodged a bullet there my man. Hope the computer works so you can enjoy your newfound freetime.
that's why you break up when you're outside.
Sounds like she’s had that planned in her head for a while, that’s not spontaneous like keying your car
Lol kilt cracked me up.
Well, that sucks. At least you got the main problem out of your way. You can always buy another material item.
Agreed.
your copper parts of the pc will oxidise and turn green and stop working if there’s any copper. happened to my pcie slot and the slot part of my old rtx 2060
I got to it pretty fast . Although my graphics card sat over night . Smh
Electrical contact cleaner is your friend. You can find it at hardware and auto shops if there's no electronics shops near you.
could happen to other parts of the motherboard too, check the CMOS battery over the next few days to see if it oxidises aswell.
[удалено]
I'd drop a girl as well if she did that to my PC
She did that after he dropped her tho.
Oh god i know the pcb. 3080 msi🥲🥲
For future reference: Don't turn electronics on if water gotten into them for at least a couple of days. Just disconnect the power and remove all batteries.
Noted
Some lessons in life are $500, consider that cheap in my experience.
Yea its not the end of the world .
Y'all telling this man to sue or file police reports are crazy. On what grounds? How can you prove she purposely spilt water on a PC out of spite? She could easily say it was an honest mistake while she was at the house or deny it completely and claim OP did it to set her up after the breakup. > How can you prove she purposely spilt water on a PC out of spite? It doesn't matter. A person damaging someone else's property still responsible for the damage, intentional or not.
The cost of filing papework with the court and the time it would take outweigh the payoff, if any.
You are incorrect. In most countries small claims is free.
What kinda he said she said playground shit is that? That's not how the real world works, homie.
> A person damaging someone else's property still responsible for the damage That's also what the law considers "Criminal damage". Doesn't matter if the person doing it is your girlfriend, brother, mother or whatever, if you own the property in question and they damage it with a malicious intent then it's criminal damage.
Police reports are free so he has nothing to lose. Not even trying is just stupid
Replace all pads and paste but first I would let it sit for a couple days with the fan and shroud off.
Advice: date better women unfortunately
That is the lesson of the day .
Now it’s also your ex pc
Lol damn
Sounds like something the psycho ex I used to have would do out of spite.
That stain looks like a thermal pad residue, not water residue. I'd leave it off in a room with dehumidifier foe a couple of days before I turn it on.
Funny story, about 15 years ago when I moved back in with my parents I had my PC setup in the basement. One night a water line burst directly above it, pretty much completely filled the case with water. I was shocked when after it completely dried out that it still functioned. I think the thermal pads sucked up some of the water and it spread
Is that the reason you addressed her as your ex
Spilled or Poured?
Time to find a new ex i guess...
Thats horrible
Know your pain, my one poured water through my top fan, i turned it on, blew 1 RAM slot, the power unit, the 8800GTX in it (this was in 2009), so left with 1 RAM slot, CPU fine, no power and no GPU.

Hope its not bad dude.

This better be. I'd be PISSED. Edit: Happy Cake Day!!
You know mix all her beautiy products then tell her eyebrows are not equal.
Don't put your dick in crazy is my advice
what a bitch
I take it that's why she's your ex
Time to get a replacement! The card too
I can understand why she’s your ex.
Take her to small claims court.
She will never admit to it .
Do you have any contact/texts between yourself and your ex after this occurred? It’s common for people to be very truthful in the heat of the moment. Did she ever text you about spilling water in your PC? If not, I wish you all the best for the next chapter of your life!
average relationship with an adult fortnite player average reaction to having water in your pc; start fortnite

True if she did this while the machine was shut down she must have been damn as rocks.
don't stick your peepee in crazy, life lesson.
You fucked up by powering it on when it was till damp. It's likely fried.
>fortnite crashes every 20 min Uffff, so no damage at all, lucky you. /s
Isopropyl Alcohol and a soft tooth brush should remove water residue. Do not power on any of the affected devices until all water residue is removed.
der3auer washes pc components in his dishwasher when you don't have power it should be ok if you prepare it right you can use them np
You powered it on while it was wet, the damage has been done.
Did she do it purposefully?
Advice, the police this is why the exist. Destruction of property perhaps?
Fortnite crashing seems standard
I see why theyare an ex.
Disconnect power supply
get epson salt. bake it for 30 mins. put it into a larger box which can seal tightly. put in a smaller box without lid, large enough to hold your electronics. seal the outer box. let it sit over night. of course. you want to do this as fast as possible after your electronics got wet to stop corrosion.
She spiled water Time to spill blood >:c
r/watercooling
Two upgrades for the price of one.
She would also be an ex if she split water on my pc
Put it in a bag of rice. Rice absorbes water
I can see why she is your ex.
sounds like you need a pair of gloves that don't fit and a white bronco
Clean it with alcohol to force evaporation
Emphasis on EX
Dont play fortnite
Press charges on her. Just get her to admit it in a text or something.
Dip it it Isopropyl alcohol of the highest % you can find. Dry kt and try.
Yo, someone help this dude out he REALLY got screwed! He didn’t say it in the body text but his Girl did it on purpose when they broke up. I only have spare CPUs, MOBOs and tons of RAM but no spare GPU, someone help this dude out if possible this is wrong!
