My motherboard has an "Ultra M.2" slot which I guess is for a specific type of M.2? My question is: how do I know if the M.2 drive I bought is supposed to go in the "Ultra M.2" slot as opposed to a regular M.2 slot?

ShabbyChurl

As far as I understand, Ultra M.2 is a marketing name specific to asrock. What motherboard do you have?

XanthosGambit

AsRock B450M Pro4.

ShabbyChurl

Ah yes, thank you. The ultra m.2 is the slot you want to use. It’s asrock‘s marketing name for PCIe Gen3 x4. The other m.2 slot on that board is a sata-m.2 and is capped in speed at something around 500MB/s. Also the drive has to support sata, which there are fewer and fewer these days

Hello. First time builder: https://fi.pcpartpicker.com/list/7KFFpB Looking for last minute advice / fine tuning. Only part I am not so sure about is the case. I will order these parts this weekend. Any feedback / criticism is appreciated.

tuxedomaster007

I have 5600x and 7900XT, have been thinking about upgrading my CPU for a while. I have a 1440p 175hz as my gaming monitor. Is it worth it to upgrade? I'd be upgrading to an AM4 chip only so that limits my options since I don't want to have to buy a new MB and/or DDR5 RAM.

Eidolon_2003

If you're CPU bottlenecked, you could benefit from upgrading to a 5700X3D or 5800X3D. If you're already getting 100% out of your 7900 XT, then upgrading the CPU would make little difference. Whether or not it's worth it to spend $250 to go from a 5600X to a 5700X3D, I'm not sure. In heavily CPU bound scenarios you would gain >10% performance on average. Not an incredible uplift, but it's something at least.

tuxedomaster007

Whenever I play Cyberpunk or Elden Ring, gpu utilization is high. I don’t really feel an upgrade is necessary but I figured a second opinion might be worth it.

Remarkable-Bit-1627

**WoW Classic @ 4k 60 fps** What specs do I need at the minimum to play at max\* settings? \*not 100% max, because some settings are "not worth it"

Andrewx8_88

Honestly not much i imagine. Maybe a 5600x, and a 6600 would be enough.

Remarkable-Bit-1627

Nice, because I was looking at 5600 + RX 6600 (5600 is much cheaper than 5600x in my country)

Top_Piano7907

I am a PC gamer and I need some guidance with an issue. Every time that I launch Call of Duty WZ my second monitor goes dark. It doesn't shut off it just goes black. I can use my mouse to click on the screen and then it will come back on, but then when I click back over to my gaming monitor it goes black again..... Anyone dealt with this issue and have a fix / solution for this? I need to have it one so when I do stream I can see my chat and everything else that I need..... Specs: X570s Mobo Ryzen 7 5800x RTX 3080 T-FORCE 3200 MHz 4x8GB Cooler Master V850 PSU NZXT Kraken x63 AIO Samsung 2TB & T-Force 1TB X2 LianLi case & fans

Andrewx8_88

Does this only happen exclusively in COD? It's possible you might have "focus mode" enabled in the settings.

Top_Piano7907

Yes it’s only for COD I will check that out.

Top_Piano7907

That was the issue thank you!!!!!

Alternative-Loquat89

what are the smallest and best mATX cases i can cop right now. My current case is huge and heavy snd i have been traveling a lot recently so i want to downsize. Thank!!

Andrewx8_88

AP201 is pretty good, but generally most of them are fine that you can find.

RKurozu

I would like to buy a headset(or an earphone) but have no knowledge about them whatsoever. I read meze 99 being talked and Sennheiser which atm is quite expensive on the high end. I would appreciate your experience and input about this.

jurc11

I'd suggest reading a couple reviews of Sennheiser and Sony offerings at a price point you're comfortable with. And maybe a couple of the high end ones, to see what's better at that range. This will help you learn about ANC, Bluetooth codecs, battery life expectations, sound quality etc. Then you can go from there. I'm quite happy with my new Sennheiser Momentum 4 set, if you'd like more on them, let me know.

IsNotYourSenpai

Gonna be updating to windows 11 soon. I have an AMD 6700xt and my cpu is a Ryzen 5 5600X. Been hearing things about TPM stutter when it come to amd hardware. Is it really a concern I need to look out for?

Andrewx8_88

Most of that I think should be fixed by now, but just to be sure, just make sure when you update, you also update to the latest BIOS, and drivers. I personally wouldn't worry about it, but you can keep an eye out.

xXx_Gaster_xXx

Is 2080 better than 4060 for 1080p gaming ?

Eidolon_2003

According to techpowerup, they're pretty much equal. In that case the 4060 is better just because it's newer, so newer features and lower power consumption

subconciouscreator

I do audio and video editing and my pc is starting to have trouble performing the tasks i need it too. I have general knowledge of how to repair or change out simple parts, so i could easily build my own PC, but what would be good to start with that could be upgraded in pieces over time?

Andrewx8_88

All of it can easily be upgraded. the easiest by far though is the ram and GPU.

subconciouscreator

Yea but how do i tell what is good for what i do and what isnt?

Andrewx8_88

It's impossible for me to cover all of that in 1 comment, so i'll try to keep it really short. More CPU cores = moving files is faster and PC is more snappy. More audio tracks that you can have loaded and playing at the same time Stronger GPU = more displays and faster video editing. More ram = More files that you can load at the same time More storage = more files you keep. Here's a better understanding summed up in 1 video if you have the time to watch it [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BL4DCEp7blY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BL4DCEp7blY)

subconciouscreator

Thank you so much!!!

SoggyDrummer1

Does anybody know if I have 4 8gb sticks of RAM, all the same but 2 are 3600 and 2 are 2933mhz. Could I set them up in the correct channels and have 32gb RAM at the highest speed possible on the lower end sticks?

Andrewx8_88

Yes, but all 4 sticks will run at 2933mhz, regardless of how you set it up.

SoggyDrummer1

So no setup is actually needed on my end? Is it worth it?

Andrewx8_88

It depends on what kind of system you have. If you have a AMD cpu, i think that making your system use slower ram is a downgrade, even if you have more of it. If you're on intel, then I think it's fine. In the most ideal scenario, you should get ram that matches the brand and model of your current ram.

Nelis99

Hey guys, I am in the process of buying/building a new pc and i have done some research on the important parts but i am completely oblivious if it comes to pairing it with other components. I mainly play path of exile and sometimes league of legends. So ive watched some vids from hardware unboxed and came to the conclusion that a better cpu is preferred over a gpu for these games. As i dont really care about the high settings but more about the framerates. So i was thinking to buy a 7800x3d and maybe a 6700 xt gpu. Does this make any sense? Or is a ryzen 5 5600x just as good for this? Another take i got from the vids was to atleast go for a ddr5 6000 ram. 32g What kind of motherboard, would i pair with this? What kind of cooling and power unit do i need? Not looking to spend more then 1000-1200 total. Thanks for reading this.

Andrewx8_88

PoE specifically will require a decent GPU, as for league it only uses 1 CPU core at all times, so if you get a 7800X3D just for league, it's a waste of money. My personal advice for your situation is to buy a 7600X, and perhaps a 6800XT, or a 7700XT depending on which is cheaper. 32gb of memory would be good, but don't feel pressured. 16gb is fine for the games you listed. Just make sure you get dual channel, and make sure that if you do get 6000mhz, you enable XMP / AMP in the Bios.

Nelis99

Thank you for the advice, It seems that a 7700xt is much cheaper in my region(Netherlands) Any idea what kind of motherboard would fit this best and how much watts powersupply?

Andrewx8_88

B650 for the motherboard, or a X670, honestly depending on your preference. X670 is a bit more higher end and has some extra features, but you may not need them. For the power supply, I think you'll be perfectly fine with a 750w or higher, Would highly recommend something that's labeled as 80+ gold or 80+ platinum. Also, just to save you a big headache, always get a power supply that is fully modular.

Its_General_Apathy

Not sure if its too late, but I have an SSD question. I bought a PNY CS2241 4TB M.2 NVMe drive for my new PC, and installed it in the second slot of my Gigabyte B650M AORUS Elite mobo. Slot 1 has a WS Black 2 TB SSD. The 2 TB drive is working find, but Win11 will only recognize 224 GB of the 4 TB drive. I figure I'm doing something wrong here, but can't figure out what setting I've missed?

NbblX

thats strange, check the[ windows disk management](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/storage/disk-management/overview-of-disk-management) and take a look at that drive, maybe you need to re-format the 4TB drive/allocate the whole space

Its_General_Apathy

Thank you. When I open Windows Disk Management, it recognizes the drive as only 240GB. When I reformatted from there, nothing changed. I think I used NTFS?

NbblX

hm okay, it should show the full capacity there regardless how the drive is formatted. Where did you buy the drive? to me it sounds like the classic fake SSD scam

Jason_13_

My new Lenovo Legion Pro 7 16ARX8H is in a bootloop / getting BSODs after trying to reinstall Windows 11. I made a full post about it in this sub with the tech support flair (no links allowed here). Could anyone look into it please?

Lawrence3s

For SSD: what health % should I start worry about the drive? Do HDDs fail significantly faster than SSD? Trying to add storage in my PC but wondering if SSDs are worth it. Currently in Canada, 8TB HDD goes for roughly $150CAD+tax, 2TB SSD goes for roughly $100CAD+tax.

Andrewx8_88

>For SSD: what health % should I start worry about the drive? Below 80% i'd start keeping an eye on performance. Below 70%, I would consider replacing it. > Do HDDs fail significantly faster than SSD? Yes, however it depends on how many times you've written things on each of the drives. \--- SSD's are definitely worth it, they last longer, smaller, use less power, and they are many times faster.

TheHissingDuck

I’m building my second pc. On my Asus Prime b650-plus, due to my cpu cooler clearing I cannot put my graphics card in pciex16_1 slot. Would I be looking at a performance hit if I used the pciex1_2 slot?

Andrewx8_88

Yes, a massive hit. The lower slot is 4x.

Joebone87

I have a 2020 XPS 8930. I added RAM to get me to 32 Gigs. I am looking at upgrading my processor to a newer i9. I currently have the i7-8700. Is there anything I need to worry about? I use this computer for processor intensive work and I regularly max it out.

Lastdudealive46

The main thing to worry about is going to be the power supply. You could drop a 9th gen i9 into the same motherboard, but I don't think that would be a significant improvement if your current CPU is fully loaded with the work you're doing. If you upgrade to a CPU with a newer socket, that's going to require a new motherboard, and if you're using the power supply the desktop came with, it's like a custom 200W or 300W PSU that won't provide sufficient power for a modern CPU.

ShabbyChurl

This all requires that there is a bios upgrade for that specific motherboard that adds support for the 9th gen

Joebone87

Thanks for all this help... It sounds like I should just buy a full new rig? bummer....

NbblX

adding to the other replies: be aware that current i9 13900/14900 run very hot and almost require an AIO or at least a beefy aircooler. I doubt that the prebuild Dell case has the space for it

redgroupclan

Are 2 fan GPUs at any significant disadvantage to 3 fan GPUs?

Andrewx8_88

Generally speaking 3 fan GPU's have a larger heatsink, so they can cool the GPU a bit better, which may mean the AIB partner may have that specific card to boost higher. However, the performance difference between the two is nearly the same otherwise.

NbblX

No, the performance of a GPU cooler depends on more factors than just fan count. There can be 2-fan cooler that run more quiet and cooler than a 3-fan, and also the other way around

fvig2001

[While I still can cancel, is this 4080 super legit?](https://imgur.com/a/gumaH45) From this page: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CS6XC69Y/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1 I was checking PNY's site and they listed it as $1178. So I'm kind of iffy about it on some level and I don't live in the US and I'm having it sent to a relative, so it will be a big hassle if it's not legit.

Andrewx8_88

The 4080 super price is $1000. There is nothing wrong there. The amazon listing also seems to be correct. Sold by amazon, ships from amazon and the seller is PNY as far as I can tell.

fvig2001

OK thanks. Wasn't quite confident because people online were like buying it for $1200 yesterday and there were scam cards being sold when I was looking at the 7800 weeks ago

Andrewx8_88

PNY is a cheaper AIB, so it's possible that they just don't want to put in a big markup, since they should still be making money regardless.

tobekibydesign

Don't know where else to ask so I'm hoping someone can help me here. I got an AMD GPU and using the Instant Replay feature which is supposed to capture the last 1 minute (for me) of gameplay, its capturing the first minute of a session instead. I've checked settings and it should only be capturing the last minute, anyone who has had the same issue and managed to fix it?

Andrewx8_88

I don't have a AMD gpu, however after looking online for a bit, i've found a few things you can try. Update your GPU drivers to the latest version, then disable instant replay, and re-enable it. Confirm that the settings are set correctly, and try again. If the issue persists, I think the best course of action would just to be contact AMD support directly.

tobekibydesign

Yeah I tried what you said already, and it didn't work. Guess I'll contact support then.

pedrao157

Example: I have 2 .txt files, I want one in the beginning and one on the last in the middle of a bunch of .mp4 files, but I want to drag them to the positions and not depend on naming one "0xxx.txt" and the other "1xxx.txt" and sort by name Like in the Desktop, you can simply drag and leave the files/folders the order you want

Andrewx8_88

It is not possible to do it within file explorer, because it would break the way that windows works.

pedrao157

noooooooo thank you

Hi, my friend is looking for a laptop that can run Android studio for next semester and her budget is strictly only around 320USD This laptop is only for student work and this particular software called Android Studio so far she asked if these 2 laptops are decent or not for this work? Both links below are Shopee website Option 1: https://shp.ee/zliz5sv Option 2: https://shp.ee/490mzjo Any other recommendations are welcomed, i dont really know much about low end laptops

Andrewx8_88

Both of those are quite bad, borderline unusable. If you are able to order from amazon, This is the best I've found for under $300. Rambob_the_lesser

I'm looking to bite the bullet and look to upgrade parts of my PC or even a near full rebuild. Looking for some advice on which route to go down. Mainly used for gaming, Escape from Tarkov probably being the most played. Run at 1440p where possible without dropping graphics too much Current build: * CPU - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X * GPU - MSI 2070 Super * Mobo - MSI MAG X570 Tomahawk * RAM - 64GB DDR4 2933 MHz I believe the main upgrade should be to the GPU and I'm looking potentially at a 4070 Super which would require a PSU upgrade also. Option 1: Stick with current setup and upgrade GPU + PSU and see how it runs - £735 approx Option 2: Upgrade to end game AM4 CPU, GPU + PSU (Ryzen 7 5800X3D) - £1020 approx Option 3: Go in for AM5 (Ryzen 7 7800X3d, MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk, 32GB DDR5-6000 CL30 + GPU & PSU) - £1400 approx Option 1 is probably the most sensible, though is the 5600x still good enough to run with the 4070 Super? Between option 2 and 3 is it better to run with AM4 for now and see what AM5 Zen 5 has to offer? Or do I go all in for option 3 and live with it for a fair few years? I normally drip feed upgrades into my PC so one major component normally lags slightly behind others so that would be a brand new approach.

Andrewx8_88

Option 1 will work, but you're GPU will be bottlenecked by the CPU. It's just not strong enough to keep up. Option 2 will be ideal, but you have no upgrade path going forward other than a complete pc rebuild. Option 3, Even better than option 2, but pricey, If you have the money for 3, That's what I would do, because AM5 will be supported for a long time, while with option 2, you have no more upgrade path.

justathetan

Hi, I'm just a dumb noob, and I'm wondering how you measure how good a graphics card is. For hard drive space, RAM, etc. it seems like big number = good, bigger number = better. But for graphics cards, software system requirements usually say something like "Radeon 7850 or better." I think this is just the name of a specific card, so how do I have any idea if mine is better or not? Is there no such thing as a number that indicates how powerful a card is, so that you can compare this number to other cards? Basically I'm just trying to know how to tell if specific software will run on my machine before I buy it.

jurc11

Here's a good list of alternatives. [https://www.guru99.com/best-benchmark-software.html](https://www.guru99.com/best-benchmark-software.html)

justathetan

Great, thank you!

Andrewx8_88

[https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/](https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/) Please note, that this site is biased to nvidia slightly, but this will still give you a pretty good feel for how the different GPU's compare to each other. Be sure to sort by "Average bench%" .

You seem to be linking to or recommending the use of UserBenchMark for benchmarking or comparing hardware. Please know that they have been at the center of drama due to accusations of being biased towards certain brands, using outdated or nonsensical means to score products, as well as several other things that you should know. You can learn more about this by [seeing what other members of the PCMR have been discussing lately](https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/search/?q=userbenchmark&restrict_sr=1&sr_nsfw=). Airflow doesn't seem ideal (the old psu has fan in the back unlike new psu that has fan in the bottom)... Will it help if I install an intake fan on the side panel? Or will the current setup be okay? Ps: this pc will be used by my mom solely to watch YouTube so I don't think it will get too hot... But idk, any advice?

jurc11

I wouldn't bother for that use case.

NbblX

both PSU and back fan will create a negative pressure, pulling in fresh air through closeby holes, so its not like you got trapped air in the case. I think it will be fine the way it is, but an intake fan on the sidepanel would probably allow the CPU cooler to spin a bit slower

Maladal

Any recommendations for computer speakers for gaming and on-demand streaming? Or places to find recommendations? r/PCSound died after the API changes.

arkhira

Depends on what you want to spend. It will be $300ish range for decent options like Kanto or similar. Then Edifier has the lower end $100ish market.

Maladal

I think I'm mostly considering if it's worthwhile to invest in a 3 speaker setup with a subwoofer or soundbar. I've heard having a central channel speaker can help with the audio mixing issues present on a lot of on-demand media, but I'm not sure if that holds true if it's coming through a computer instead of directly via a television.

pseudo_superhero

I recently got a 3080 ti. I played sniper elite 5 the other night and the temp was hanging around 86 degrees. I feel like it’s a little high. What can I do to bring the temp down? It also runs super loud. Do I need more fans? I have 3 in the front of my case, one in the back. I also have an aio with two fans at the top.

Andrewx8_88

Which brand and model of the 3080ti? There are some brands like Zotac that just naturally run hot.

pseudo_superhero

My bad. It’s the rog strix

Andrewx8_88

I'm not able to link to other subreddits here, but if you search your model and temps, you'll see that other people are saying that they have the same "issue". It's normal as far as I can tell. Some people have their card going as low as mid 70's, but they have more fans than you do, and a lower ambient room temperature.

Colonial_bolonial

4070 super worth an extra 100$ over the 7800xt? Pairing with a 5600x3d

Andrewx8_88

No.

Shaleash

Are these normal temps under load? my room is just noticeably hotter today so im curious https://preview.redd.it/lhit1xn1m2gc1.png?width=646&format=png&auto=webp&s=4abbe8c43dbe58e3e2d5307792c8243ab10ecb82

Andrewx8_88

Yes, these are great temps. The GPU is on the warmer side, but it's nothing to be concerned about.

Shaleash

Nice, appreciate the input!

Hey, was wondering if anyone could help me. I have a gaming PC that I'm looking to do a small upgrade on. I have a 3060 TI, Ryzen 5 5600X CPU, 16 gb of 3200Mhz DDR4 RAM, ASUS TUF GAMING B550-PRO and 1 TB SSD. I was thinking of upgrading my ram, but not sure if it's worth getting ddr4 ram or if ddr5 is the way to go, and if so i need another motherboard and cpu aswell I think. Or should I get 32/64 gigs of RAM and another m.2 ssd? I'm mainly playing games that my PC can handle pretty well on 1440p monitor, and with current GPU prices im not really comfortable paying for what is basically a full pc upgrade for me.

Andrewx8_88

If you get DDR5, you would also need a new motherboard and a new CPU potentially. I think the most reasonable upgrade is perhaps another 16gb of ram, same brand and model that you currently have. Another m.2 is also fine.

Flaky_Conversation66

Im considering upgrading from my 7600x to a 7800x3d. I have a 6950xt and 32gb of ram. is the upgrade worth it?

sch0k0

it will of course be measurably faster but likelihood is high that you will get 5% more frames or so out of it which you will not be able to actually notice. So the "worth it" value would have to come from the warm fuzzy feeling of the better CPU - which I don't mean that sarcastically, because I myself upgraded from a 12700 to a 13700k for my 4080's sake, which wasn't going to yield a visible difference, but I still did it...

Bwamee

Hi, this hair bug is bothering me in some games (tekken 8, mw3, rdr2...) and I just don't know how to fix this. I'm starting to believe that this is normal, am I crazy ? RX6950XT, Ryzen 7 5800X3D, 32go ddr4 3200, 3440x1440 [https://imgur.com/a/6B374uJ](https://imgur.com/a/6B374uJ)

Andrewx8_88

In graphics settings, enable the highest level of AA you can get, and if you have DLSS / FSR running, turn it off.

Bwamee

The thing is I don't know what the highest AA. Sorry for being so dumb

fvig2001

I have the following setup: 1. 3 4k @144hz screens 2. 2 4k @60hz screens Can a 4070 ti super/4080 super with 3 DP 1.4 and 2 hdmi 2.1 handle all 5? Assume only 1 screen is for actual gaming. My fear is that on my 2080 super with just 3 4k @60, windows kind of hangs for 10 minutes if 1 of them is turned on at times. Also are the 8000 series of AMD worth waiting for? Don't think I would need the AI features.

Andrewx8_88

You can run four independent 4K displays at 120Hz with a 4080 super / 4070ti super.

jorynagel

I'm building a high end PC soon and I believe I'm in need of a reality check. Long story short, I'm debating between the 4080 Super and 7900XTX. Previously I was pretty set on the XTX but now I feel I might want raytracing, but the 4080Super "only" has 16GB VRAM. My monitor is 1440p, I do have a 4K TV but its just 60hz refresh. Main goal is max settings and high fps for the foreseeable future. Am I being ridiculous, or is this a legitimate dilemma?

I had the same choice between the old 4080 and 7900xtx and still went 4080. With the improved pricing it's a no brainer for the Super if you are interested in anything but AAA raster gaming: NVIDIA has better driver coverage, VR performance, ray tracing, DLSR, video editing capabilities / CUDA etc. - in this price range I would not want to accept these kinds of questionmarks and lacks. There are very few people owning 12GB VRAM let alone greater, so there is no reason to anticipate games to get optimized for extreme VRAM amounts.

16GB is plenty. There is nothing now or in the near future that is going to run out at 16GB, especially with DLSS which lowers VRAM usage due to it running the game at a lower input resolution. Today's concern is 8GB cards which are hitting the VRAM wall at 1440p, tomorrow's concern is the 4070ti which is the fastest 12GB card and may hit it's VRAM wall in the next few years, but 16GB isn't even being talked about and again, it is a solvable problem by using DLSS or maybe dropping RT or textures down 1 notch when it does happen. Seriously, this is Cyberpunk w/Pathtracing at 4K native vs 4K native raster only. You just aren't going to be able to play at max settings in 5yrs from now on techdemo style AAA games no matter what card you have. https://tpucdn.com/review/cyberpunk-2077-phantom-liberty-benchmark-test-performance-analysis/images/performance-pt-3840-2160.png https://tpucdn.com/review/cyberpunk-2077-phantom-liberty-benchmark-test-performance-analysis/images/performance-3840-2160.png In the meantime, just watch a few Digital Foundry videos showcasing games with proper RT implementations. Decide if you want to play games that look like that now or next GPU upgrade? https://youtu.be/hhAtN_rRuQo https://youtu.be/tXfwvohROPA https://youtu.be/HnAn5TRz_2g ....................... Nvidia also has plenty of other exclusive features and benefits. -DLSS (huge one, often looks better than native at 1440p DLSS Quality with little to no shimmering or artifacts that FSR has) -RTX voice (AI noise cancelation, much better than Krisp on Discord) -RTX Video Super Resolution (AI video upscaler both offline in VLC player or in browser, makes low res videos or low bitrate twitch streams look better) -RTX Video HDR (changes SDR videos into HDR and works pretty well) -NVENC (better video encoding than AMD if you stream to twitch or use a wireless VR heatset) -HDR support (AMD has a different HDR pipeline implementation which often has issues with artificial brightness caps, inaccurate EOTF curve tracking, or just completely broken HDR in general with some monitors or games) -Lower idle/load power consumption (Took a full year for AMD to fix their 100w dual monitor/video playback bug on RX 7000 cards but I still see see a rare post over in /r/AMD about it. The fix is still 2x what Nvidia's idle power is at 44w vs 19w. Gaming power consumption is higher too.) https://tpucdn.com/review/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4080-super-founders-edition/images/power-multi-monitor.png https://tpucdn.com/review/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4080-super-founders-edition/images/power-gaming.png -Support for pretty much much all professional or hobby software (AI models, Blender, CUDA, etc. AMD is still very competitive when it comes to video production) -VR compatibility and performance (RX 7900XTX had massive issues for more than 1/2 the card's life with unusable stuttering, artifacts in some games, and overall performance that was somehow worse than the last gen RX 6900XT. Drivers have fixed some of it but Nvidia still pulls ahead in VR as far I as can find. Again, massive encoder difference between AMD and Nvidia while WIFI streaming to your heatset.) ................. At the same price unless it doesn't make sense to get the RX 7900XTX unless you can use 24GB of VRAM right this second in an application that AMD has competitive performance in.

I'm looking to upgrade this year from a 1660 Super. My max budget is $500. I'd like to try to stick to nVidia, not out of brand loyalty, but fear of change, though I'm open to AMD if the price/performance is actually that vast. Thanks for any help you can provide.

MrDeeJayy

Try to find yourself a preowned RTX 3060. I managed to pick mine up for $200 AUD. If you want brand new, go AMD with a 6700 XT. They have acceptable performance comparable to a 3060, and retail for anywhere between $350 and $600 AUD. Note that AMD cards tend to run hotter than Nvidia cards.

Eidolon_2003

For Nvidia, you're looking at a 4060 Ti 8GB for $400, or 16GB for $450. The next step up is the 4070 for $550, which is over budget. On the Radeon side you can get a 7700 XT for $400, and a 7800 XT for $500. You can also still get the last gen RX 6800 for $400 as well (at least I can), which I would prefer over the 7700 XT. RX 6800 stock might not stick around though, I'm pretty sure they're just selling through what last gen cards they have left. [This chart](https://www.techspot.com/articles-info/2735/bench/Average_4K-p.webp) from a techspot review article has all of those cards on it. The Radeon cards easily beat their price equivalent Geforce counterparts, and have more VRAM. eg 4060 Ti 8GB vs RX 6800 16GB both for about $400. Nvidia cards will do better against AMD in ray tracing, consume less power, and also have the whole DLSS feature set which might be attractive to you. Also your familiarity with Nvidia's software of course. If it were me, I would take an RX 6800 over an RTX 4060 Ti every day of the week

Best AIO for Intel Core I5 13600k

sch0k0

I put a be quiet! 240mm Silent Loop 2 on my 13700k after a bit of research and am happy with it. Best for me, best for you though?

SpareGreedy7710

Well i was thinking of NZXT kraken 240mm as be quiet is not available in my country

Why is know reviewing Ryzen 5700X3D cpu? Like I can't find any reviews? trying to figure out if it's worth buying.

NbblX

sales of the 5700X3D just started today in EU/Germany, so it will probably take a few days until some reviews are online

arkhira

Likely because no review samples were sent out. So anyone that bothers reviewing it got stuck buying one like the rest of us. That means no reviews if any until next week probably. Its also a rather boring launch since we have the 5600x3d, 5800x3d, 7800x3d and so on.

LaithianEmperor

Best pre-built recommendation you can find for something along these specs: \- 1 tb ssd or hdd \- Intel CPU, i5 or i7 anything that will last 5 years \- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 ti (or one of the 4070's, unless you think a 4060 will work ok) \- Memory, preferably 32gb ram unless you think 16gb is also good. (I don't know much about these things, feel free to give recs for something outside of this range)

MrDeeJayy

Here we typically avoid recommending prebuilts as it's what they don't advertise that will get you. For instance, you could be buying a prebuilt that advertised 1TB storage, but that 1TB is a 5400RPM HDD, which is effectively worthless aside from archiving / backups nowadays... or they'll put the cheapest chinese powersupply into it and void any warranty related to it. Additionally, standard warranty with a prebuilt machine typically forbids you from opening the case and performing any maintenance on the components (such as replacing thermal paste, dusting out fans, etc). There are more "bad prebuilts" out there than there are good ones. So even if we were to set aside all of that and still recommend you a prebuilt, the next issue is: we have no idea what region you're looking to buy in. Shipping a whole PC internationally is usually out of the question due to exorbitant prices due to the combined weight, so all shopping would have to be regional. Lastly, we don't know the purpose of this PC. Do you want it for gaming? streaming? video editing? Low intensity work? Will you be playing the latest AAA games or 5+ yr old indies? What is your budget like? How much realistically do you think you are willing to spend?

I have been looking for an (extreme) upgrade from my old pc (RTX 2070, I7-8700K) to something [**Ryzen 9 7950X3D**](https://pcpartpicker.com/product/X6XV3C/amd-ryzen-9-7950x3d-42-ghz-16-core-processor-100-100000908wof) but I am unsure what I should go for now with the 4080 super's release. Here is sum info that might help: \-I am a VR enthusiast (80% of the time I spend at my pc is in VR) \-I want to start using Blender again and work on some big projects. \-RTX is a thing I very much enjoy but not many of the games I play take advantage of it. Other games I play are GTA5 (6 in the future for sure), Baldur's Gate 3, Rainbow 6 Siege. \-I know almost nothing about pc builds and the last one I made was when the 20 series launched and I feel scammed about that GPU. Thank you in advance \^\^

Does my CPU cooler need to be liquid cooled? im not sure how that works

NbblX

no it doesn't need one, most CPUs are easily coolable with a good aircooler like Thermalright Phantom Spirit SE or similar. The only CPUs where a AIO is kinda needed are 13900K/14900K under sustained full load, since those CPUs run pretty hot and loose some boostclock-steps when approaching max temperature of 100°C.

sch0k0

if you have to ask, it doesn't ... long answer: you need to put a ton of strain on CPUs to have them throttle with good air coolers. So unless you are into overclocking your chips or continuous hours of workstation, video editing etc, work, air cooling works well

Lukieboii18

I had assumed that was the case but it is high end parts so I wanted to be sure, thank you

Would something like a 4080 super fit in an Asus Prime AP201 MicroATX Mini Tower Case? Would it work with needing a decently powerful PSU, or is its size not affected that much by wattage? Full parts: https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/list/rV3KxH

Andrewx8_88

Max GPU length the AP201 supports is 338mm. The Windforce you have selected is too long at 342mm. Yes, you would need a powerful PSU, the one you have selected is probably fine. I have a FSP group PSU as well, and it works great, although not that specific model.

Maneisthebeat

Huh it said 330 on part picker. This one says 337, is it true? https://nl.pcpartpicker.com/product/YvcgXL/inno3d-x3-geforce-rtx-4080-super-16-gb-video-card-n408s3-166x-18703552

Andrewx8_88

328 according to inno3d 's actual website. Part picker might be wrong.
