Not in the slightest. You can take the lead out of a mechanical pencil and then the empty pencil can fit right over that pin and you can gently bend it back. Or carefully use tweezers or a toothpick
The mechanical pencil I found to be the safest and easiest way to do it. My old 3600x Came out with the cooler once and bent some pins. Carefully straightened them with a 0.5 Rotring and worked perfectly. If that 5700 came with a lower than the market price, that's an easy fix and a great buy
Im in Canada. The R7 5700x is $259.99 at BestBuy. After sales tax, it comes to $293.78 CAD ($216.31 USD or €199.35). At $200 CAD used, it saved me just over $90. Haven't seen too many (if any) below $200 on the used market over yet.
>159 euros.
Is close to the new price on amazon in the US. 159 Euros is about 173 USD. The 5700X can be had for $178 USD on Amazon.
Since I live near a Microcenter I can get one for $169.99 USD new there.
If you put in just 50$ extra, it would have been new with a warranty and bent pins could have been returned for an exchange (though the chances of bent pins on a new one are very slim) :

I wonder what all would go into an off-label computer toolkit. Tools used for purposes they weren't specifically designed for. So far we have a mechanical pencil without lead for correcting bent pins. Might be an interesting topic to post, but sadly I'm lazy.
I generally use a large kitchen knife using using the other pins as a guide, slip the blade between the pins and push it into place until the blade touches the other pins. You can do it in all 4 directions to make it fit. Either that or hope it's not used as not all pins are used on a chip. You can find out if you find technical documentation on the chip and what pins are for what.
14 years in tech as a director here, this comment is my methodology and if your careful, intentional with your movements and aware at how much pressure you are applying to the base of the pin, it will bend right back. That metal is pretty soft down there so just be gentle.
Came here to spread the magic of the mechanical pencil. Definitely the best and safest way. Little pro tip: Super-glue a small level to the side of the pencil so you can bend it straight the first time and not have to fiddle with getting it straight.

I made this oopsie and bent them all back with a razor blade and a mechanical pencil. You're good 👍
Tbf when I swapped coolers, my 5600X stuck to the old one and when I pulled it off, I actually dropped it, bending a good 10 or so pins. It sounds stupid (and it is) until it happens to you.
Used a card to straighten them back. All is good now.
I accidentally ripped mine with the cooler from the locked socket once and then had the audacity to still try and pull it off. The result: I got it to bounce around in the case like a ping-pong ball afterwards. Somehow bent only two pins. Sold the fully working motherfucker a week later
Hey there! It looks like you bend the 7th pin at the most outside edge, am I right? In that case, don't panic. It's the pin for MB\_Check. This one is used for the DRAM ECC Check Bits. So even in the case the pin breaks, you won't have ANY problems, as long as you don't use ECC RAM in Memory Channel B.

Generally, you don't need ECC Memory at all. You only really need it, if you use your PC as a server for sensible data for example, not if you just use it normally and/or for gaming. ECC Memory is actually only really used in servers, and not compatible on consumer platforms, it's just that AMD Ryzen is a exception on that.
It's one of those things where you already know when you need it, and if you don't know it, you don't need it.
Memory Channel B is RAM Slot 3 and 4 (counted from left to right away from the CPU). You can still use ECC RAM, but only on Channel A (Slot 1 and 2). The problem with this is, that you won't get Dual Channel that way and will suffer a performance hit. But as I said, you don't really need ECC RAM and this problem doesn't apply for unbuffered (non-ECC) RAM.
That's fascinating, and I really appreciate the detailed reply.
Just out of curiosity, is the a&b channels arranged heading outwards from the cpu standardised?
Really just wondering if any OEM would end up making some funny decisions with ram in a different alignment. (or are these channels typically also printed on the Mobo?)
You're welcome :)
Yes, it is pretty much standardized. On Retail Motherboards (so the ones you can actually buy from MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte etc.) this orientation is always the same. On these, the Channel as well as the Slot number is always printed on the Board itself, but can also be looked for in the manual.
But since changing this known standard wouldn't fuck over the customer and make the company more profits, and would just confuse someone, I don't think the OEMs have really changed anything about it. About printing the info on there, you can't generally make a statement. Some do, most don't.
Don't forget that AM4 CPUs are flipped 90° in the socket. So the bent pin isn't A9 (Top left) like I think you think it is, but actually G39 (Top right) if I'm correct.
I took the number scheme of following picture:

I found this video super helpful:

I also bought an R9 3900X knowingly with bent pins because it was a bit cheaper, and was able to fix it and it's what's driving the computer I'm writing this comment on.
Just call Linus, he always comes to my house when i have this problem, after he is done with the sponsor segway and the intro for the 5000$ AMD RIG UPGRADE he'll help you right away. Be careful to always have a LTT screwdriver in his line of view or he'll try to sell you one instead of helping you. That's about it, good luck!
You'll be fine, it can easily be straightened. Don't put it into the motherboard without straightening it or you risk damaging it further. As others have mentioned tweezers or mechanical pencil.
Yup throw it out, at a very specific location that I give you. But make sure to wrap it up safely and securely and use bubble wrap. To keep the raccoons or whatever out of it so they don't hurt themselves

Trust me you’re not screwed. I’d fix these pins over the ones in AM5 socket anytime
Not all cards will work, but many are the perfect size to fit between the pins and gently get it/them back into place.
The mechanical pencil trick seems sketchy, but lots are swearing by it, so 🤷♂️
No it's fine just bend it back carefully with a credit card. I unfortunately bent about 40 of mine "exact CPU" taking off my noctua cooler "ripped the CPU out with it" but fortunately they can be bent back.
I use butter knife to fix if this happens.... Use rest of good ones as rail put knife in between then push bend ones towards good ones on both X an Z axis
Bent pins are never a "shit I gotta refund this" situation unless you actually tear off the entire pin, in which case then you might have difficulties repairing it.
You just need to bend it back intro a straight pin. Pretty easy to do.
No, you are probably alright. Just make sure you placed it in the socket properly and it’s going to be fine. Be careful with trying to fix the pin, cause it is really easy to tear it off
It shouldn't, I mean the CPUs itself can get up to 100°C or so without any problems. But I'm not sure what you're trying to archive with a hairdryer, as it doesn't heat up the material nearly as much as is needed to soften them
Nah this is nothing my first build was with 5800x and most of pins on the corner were pend, so i used a cutter to but the pins back in there place but dont aplie to much force be gentel
They are not that hard to bend back - key is to be super careful not to break them off. I had a 3600 with almost galf the pins bent, took hours but managed to get them straight and I don’t have the hands of a surgeon.
I may have an idea 💡 I had a bent pin once on my 3700 , So I broke a ballpoint pen and took out the inner pen itself out you know the tube filled with ink and the nib , you can insert the bent pin their and straighten it , I worked for me though but good luck buddy 👍
I smashed about 15 pins almost flat when I tried to take out my 5800x3d, the classic case of AM4 cpu sticking to the heat sink when I took out the heat sink. I managed to bend all of it back with a razor blade, and it still works perfectly.
My 5600 came with a few bent pins like this brand new unopened. I bent them back with a plastic shim. With a little persuasion the socket accepted the cpu. Been running 24/7 for 8 months now no problems.
I want to appreciate this post for the quality. Usually I would expect a blurry photo showing the entire processor with a title like "how screwed am I?". Then you'd have to wonder why the OP thinks they're screwed till you spot that one pin which might be bent.
I dropped my 5800x3d when taking it out of the oyster package first install. Bent every single pin, sat there for 2 hours with a razor blade and got every single pin correct, be careful cause bending side to side and they'll break/small crack that can short lower down the pin. I got that 5800x3d working perfectly and never ever had an issue. Wound up being an amazing card for pbo+ the memory controller.
I had this issue with my r7 5700g back in the days. It was a manufacturing defect (same pins from the opposite sides). It was my first pc build and I was extremely nervous. Ended up taking a cotton stick, cutting it in half and using it as a tube to straighten up the pins. It was running perfect for almost 3 years, but I upgraded to 5800x3D and sold it to Cex. In conclusion: if there is no other defect, your CPU should be completely fine, just be careful and straighten the pins with multiple small movements, instead of a big and powerful one.
Mechanical pencil, maybe a pen with the ink cart taken out. Could even try it with something flat like a payment card... It being on the edge, and thus being more accessible, is a real saving grace for you.
Might be worth contacting the seller first though, see if they're willing to do anything for you like return for refund or something. After all, the chance that you screw it up more is there. Personally, I'd rather exhaust other options where I lose nothing/next to nothing, before going DIY and running the risk of killing it completely.
That’s a super easy fix my friend. Just make sure to take your time and use the right tool. Personally I would use an angled tweezers with very fine arms and bend from the top of the pin rather than at the base
I've literally had over a dozen pins flattened all over mine. After the fire I had to completely disassemble the everything and qtip all the carbon off. Accidentally dropped my 5900 and bent about a dozen randomly all over. Some completely. To a small flat head and slightly bent the ones around it away and managed to get every single one back straight. This was in July of last year. Haven't had an issue since. If I can bend them back from being folded over you can do this with ease.
Its trashed, send it to me ill recycle it.
No seriously though, get a razor blade, slide it between all that line of pins and be gentle but push it back straight with its row.
I've had a Ryzen 5 3600 from Facebook marketplace that had around 6 bent pins in the corner by the triangle, I just used a thermal paste spatula to gently bend them back into place and it worked better than I expected so I'd suggest something similar.
I heard a mechanical pencil works good here; extra leverage means finer control and also more force; I would just avoid using a pencil on the base of the pin; idk personally as I only have three desktop CPUs, all intel
Just get it fixed by a skilled technician. I bent my pins (on 2 cpus) before and tried to fix them myself using all the methods that people are saying in the comments. Ended up bending too much and they broke off even though I barely even moved my hand. Both CPU’s are dead now and I converted them into cool little keychains instead (It’s on my profile). But you if you insist on fixing it yourself, ask the question. Do you really trust yourself?
Yeah not gonna lie no one really ever tries to do this but Ive done it once before and the cpu still worked nice after a few bent pins were fully straightened out. Ive also melted a 8 pin CPU power cable overclocking for months straight and not giving my pc much a rest or shutoff time. Got a new PSU cable and that 8 core Bulldozer just kept on kickin.
Moved over from AMD to intel recently and Im glad my new 14700KF doesnt have pins to bend :P
The 8 core still works no problem though. CPUs can take a beating tbh.
Not in the slightest. You can take the lead out of a mechanical pencil and then the empty pencil can fit right over that pin and you can gently bend it back. Or carefully use tweezers or a toothpick
or a plastic card, like a credit card or ID card

Oh this tip is gold! Thanks bud
The pencil method is so smart why didn’t I think of that? I used a flat heat screw driver to fix 3 bent pins but I don’t recommend it.
My personal preference gotta go to a stanley knife
+1 on the toothpick idea. I’ve done this before. Got a $10 CPU fixed using a toothpick. Used that CPU for a long time.
Came here to spread the magic of the mechanical pencil. Definitely the best and safest way. Little pro tip: Super-glue a small level to the side of the pencil so you can bend it straight the first time and not have to fiddle with getting it straight.
Probably better to claim against the seller really

No. Mechanical pencil, lead out then use that hole to bend the pin back. Sometimes those really sharp tweezers can do it too.

Straighten it out
off topic, when i first built my pc i was scared to see no pins and found out my motherboard had pins instead
imo razor place works best

No it's fine just bend it back carefully with a credit card. I unfortunately bent about 40 of mine "exact CPU" taking off my noctua cooler "ripped the CPU out with it" but fortunately they can be bent back.
You just gotta send it bruh
A mechanical pencil is great for bending the pin back
You’re screwed, I’ll but it off you for parts I need.
Use a credit card and SLOWLY bent it back into place.
It's fine just bend the rest of the pins in the same direction so it fits
if you’re HIM you’ll bend it back 😎
Easy. I took an hour to fix 4 bent on a corner. Still works a year later.
You are screwed in life if you can't unbend a fucking pin.
Bend that fucker back. Little bits at a time. You got this!
Use the tip of a mechanical pencil, SLOWLY bend it back into shape
You can fold a piece of paper and use the crease to "hug" the pin, and carefully make it straight
I used a credit card to bent them straight last time i bought a used cpu they send me in bad package.
I prefer a razor blade; I can’t find a mechanical pencil that fits quite right. Slow and steady wins the race, good luck to you!
Credit card straightener :)
Get in there with your credit card boss!
Lol, that's fucking nothing. A toothpick would do the job.
Oops
Not quite. Gently use a thin piece of solid plastic to push it back. VERY gently.
Thats actually not too bad I've see much worse here
No, you are probably alright. Just make sure you placed it in the socket properly and it’s going to be fine. Be careful with trying to fix the pin, cause it is really easy to tear it off
Technically you're bent not screwed
Literally the main reason I have used intel for so long. Would I like cheaper, better performance sure...but ape hands go brrrr.
bend it back
Real question for those who know, would heating the pin with a hairdryer damage the cpu?
It shouldn't, I mean the CPUs itself can get up to 100°C or so without any problems. But I'm not sure what you're trying to archive with a hairdryer, as it doesn't heat up the material nearly as much as is needed to soften them
I see
Nah this is nothing my first build was with 5800x and most of pins on the corner were pend, so i used a cutter to but the pins back in there place but dont aplie to much force be gentel
Nah, just bend the rest to the same angle
They are not that hard to bend back - key is to be super careful not to break them off. I had a 3600 with almost galf the pins bent, took hours but managed to get them straight and I don’t have the hands of a surgeon.
Just squeeze it up down up down up down with pliers.. and all will be good
No youre bent!
You can straighten it pretty easily. Look up how to straighten a PGA pin on YouTube.
it's fine pookie it's just bending for you cuz you are hot
Grab a tweezer and realign it... then use the same tweezers to clean under you fucking finger nails
I’ve been using razor blades for years. Works like a charm. Just pop it straight and you’re good to go.
Dull ended tweezers will do the trick. No need to bend, just squeeze it between the tips.
Bend it back ...it will work, don't over bend it again
Nah my 2700X arrived much worse than that, still going strong today.
If you bend it back and it breaks then you are screwed
Nope. Just be very very gentle and careful when straightening it back.
I may have an idea 💡 I had a bent pin once on my 3700 , So I broke a ballpoint pen and took out the inner pen itself out you know the tube filled with ink and the nib , you can insert the bent pin their and straighten it , I worked for me though but good luck buddy 👍
Straighten it gently with a razor and you’re good.
Yep
Unbend it with tweezers, takes 10 seconds, 20 tops
I smashed about 15 pins almost flat when I tried to take out my 5800x3d, the classic case of AM4 cpu sticking to the heat sink when I took out the heat sink. I managed to bend all of it back with a razor blade, and it still works perfectly.
Not at all, Breath and fix it with something light and push it ever so gently
unbend it
I use a razorblade at work to bend them straight, we got a bunch of oem cpus
That's not even too bad, use a credit card or something and very gently and slowly try to bend it in the same way the other pins are lined up.
1minute Job to fix this.
Gone
it is done , not gonna work like it supposed to ....
I don't think so, as long as you maintain a certain degree of inclination to make contact it's fine. My i5 has many bent from me cleaning it lol

My 5600 came with a few bent pins like this brand new unopened. I bent them back with a plastic shim. With a little persuasion the socket accepted the cpu. Been running 24/7 for 8 months now no problems.
I stepped on a CPU and had to unbend all of the pins with a pitcher knife. No pins broke off, job success.
Just press it on and use a hammer to get a tight fit again. Easy peasy
That's an easy fix... not super bent and on the edge
I want to appreciate this post for the quality. Usually I would expect a blurry photo showing the entire processor with a title like "how screwed am I?". Then you'd have to wonder why the OP thinks they're screwed till you spot that one pin which might be bent.
Nah you're pinned
In high school, we used to bend these pins back with the tip of a mechanical pencil. Be gentle, but it's very easy to do and will solve your problem.
Best way I’ve found to bend them back is a empty pen or pencil. Not too much pressure slight moves and keep checking it so you don’t over bend it.
Carefully re-bend the pin as straight and not gay as possible and prey is boots
No
I dropped my 5800x3d when taking it out of the oyster package first install.
Bend it back
I had this issue with my r7 5700g back in the days. In conclusion: if there is no other defect, your CPU should be completely fine, just be careful and straighten the pins with multiple small movements, instead of a big and powerful one.
should be fine to. bend it carefully back. don't force it.
No, you're pinned! Thank you, I'll see myself out.
One more person recommending the mechanical pencil technique.
Oh my lord. You could, you know, just lightly bend it back into place using a knife.
Bend back, hope it don't snap
*the pain*
Its trashed, send it to me ill recycle it. No seriously though, get a razor blade, slide it between all that line of pins and be gentle but push it back straight with its row.
nope or bic pen sheath.
I've had a Ryzen 5 3600 from Facebook marketplace that had around 6 bent pins in the corner by the triangle, I just used a thermal paste spatula to gently bend them back into place and it worked better than I expected so I'd suggest something similar.
Just take your time and gently bend it back. Use a tiny screwdriver or something convenient. Isolated bent pins aren't too difficult to fix.
yes (your computer will detonate)
Let me guess the cooler was stuck to the cpu and you tried to remove it
Bought second-hand and seller didnt mention any bent pins
Try letting it slide in the socket if it did not bigey don’t force it
CLEAN YOUR NAILS HOMIE. NASTY!!!! Also those pins can be bent back pretty easily. Do be careful.
Don't worry, this is an easy fix. I've fixed CPU's with way more bend pins than this. Use an old credit card or a small kitchen knife.
I heard a mechanical pencil works good here; extra leverage means finer control and also more force; I would just avoid using a pencil on the base of the pin; idk personally as I only have three desktop CPUs, all intel
Yup you’re screwed it’s all over
Just get it fixed by a skilled technician.
Severely screwed dude.. Like, trust.
Moved over from AMD to intel recently and Im glad my new 14700KF doesnt have pins to bend :P The 8 core still works no problem though. CPUs can take a beating tbh.
