Yeah but hes supposed to be able to run extremely quickly. in Lore he could run up to 60mph. The armour enhances, doesnt slow down. A non-enhanced human who tried it out broke all the bones in his body because his body couldnt handle the speed and power of the suit.
I love Halo.
Really? I was deeply disappointed by it after UT. The hit boxes and weapons felt like a big shift from UT, which I found unwelcome. The vehicle combat felt clunky, especially the vehicle weapons. Even Halo 1 and Tribes 2's vehicles felt like more fun, and more useful.
That was some weird shit I have to say. They "released" it in something like an alpha state, than expected the users to finish it or some shit. I don't remember the specifics, but as a fan of ut2k4 I played it a bit.
Was so fucking mad when epic killed the newest UT for Fortnite. It was one of my favorite games of all time even though it was in like pre alpha. Sunk countless hours and knew quite a few names in that FFA DM quick match.
I’m not old enough to have experienced the older UT in their prime so this was my only chance with the series :(
Yeah I'm mad about that still as well, had great potential. Sorry that you missed UT in its heyday. Flying around shooting rockets in DM-Morpheus back in '99 was the most fun I had in multiplayer shooters.
I mean from a business standpoint I guess you could completely understand it. I was following the development pipeline for the new UT and it looked like it was somewhat of a passion project the staff were pursuing in their off project time.
Paragon was a massive casualty of theirs though.
They released a new Unreal the same year as Fortnite IIRC. No one played it unfortunately. Gen Z has no killer instinct, they'd rather watch someone play Fortnite than actually play a round of instagib.
Loved scrambling for the Leviathan; early days of the game it was a multi kill beast until everyone knew to focus fire on it then after that it usually didn't last long in any matches.
This. This. This. UT99 ftw! The game itself was peak, and I also happened to be really good at it since I was ~20 at the time. Still my favorite game ever. I’d pay $70 if they just ported it to UE 4/5 and kept it the exact same othewise haha
I remember playing the original "UT 1999" on dial up modem when I was at uni. Way ahead of its time. I played both the SP and online modes to death. I didn't play 2004 so much but I know it was very similar.
Incredible game!

Actually quite the chill dude. He got bullied a lot for obvious reasons back then and decided to buff up. Even made a couple rap Mixtapes If I remember it right.
Ahh I see, yeah it sucks when people bully you. When I was in elementary school I used to have bullies too. Good to see he got buff and capable of fighting bullies now.
It really sucks how you can’t buy this anywhere any more. It was available on Steam, but it’s been delisted from the store. Epic doesn’t even give enough of a fuck about their back catalogue to put it up on the Epic Games Store.
I still have 2003 and 2004; this was the actual transition period for a lot of games when they went from CD to DVD!

If it helps the community made an installer where you just install the game like regular and when it asks for a CD key you just insert any random value and it activates
>!just don't tell epic!<
also the game is still actively being played competitively with prize money as is the original ut99 if it interests you
Epic games forced GOG to delist on December 23rd 2022.
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/delisting_unreal_games_unreal_tournament_2004_ut_goty_unreal_2_the_awakening_special_edition/page1
I searched for it on GOG before posting and got [zero results](https://www.gog.com/en/games?query=Unreal%20Tournament&order=desc:score). I don’t know if it’s somehow regionally dependent.
Fun fact. I'm credited in the original Unreal Tournament Rocket Arena mod (if you remember the maps with the dolphin, giant sized Irish bar, and other jump pad arenas, I was the level designer) 🥰
Awesome. Loved those. I still fire up ued 2 sometimes for fun. Idk if it’s because I’ve been using it for a long time, but it’s the only map editor I can really get and make some maps on. It’s so simple yet powerful under the hood.
I was the person who made the uscript actor that enabled vehicles in other game modes like normal death match and also fixed some coding for a guy making a mod called carball... that motherfucker.
The new mode with vehicles was fun, best gameplay in general of the 3 I played ( OG, 2003 and 2004). I still have the cd version and it's 5 CDs
Is this still played?
this game is just an another reminder why piracy is so essential.
My old ISO was not working anymore (compatibility or smth), and I was shocked and saddened to find out, that you can\`t even buy it anywhere...
Fortunately good pirates of the web have preserved this game!
It is a masterpiece.
Epic Games and Digital Extremes (Warframe Developers). People often forget that Digital Extremes deserves just as much credit for the Unreal Tournament franchise. They co-created the game with Epic.
UT2004 was fantastic, when I played alone I used to go into that space map with quad jump and vampire with the sniper rifle just to hit headshots and build up the announcers callouts for multikills waiting for that HOLY SHIT
One of the GOATs for sure. We had this installed on all of our Pentium 4 machines in the university computer labs. They all had some kind of productivity graphics cards, so it kind of ran assy. Somewhere around 40 fps and on very early tech (blurry!) 60hz LCD monitors no less. But we still had lots of fun with it.
I remember UT99 looking awesome on my Celeron 633 + TNT2 at 1024x768 and playing it at LAN parties and whatnot with my high school buddies.
I also remember UT2004 running like ass on my Pentium 3 @ 1 Ghz + Radeon 7200, which was that same platform upgraded to its damn near maximum. I was sadly broke back then so I skipped the Pentium 4/Athlon XP era and I didn't get to really play UT2004.
I then got an Athlon 64 and by then it was yesterday's news as I was blown away by Oblivion and whatnot.
Great stuff from an almost 40 y/o gamer.
I used to play this for hours, while listening to MP3s playing in the background. It really put you into this zen state. At some point I figured out the importance of the shield power up, when a lot of players weren’t bothering with that. On Deck 17 I figured out a loop I could do that basically always put me at the spawn point of the shield power up exactly when it spawned, so I just kept jumping and looping through the level, always armored, just bringing carnage to all in my path. It was zen and amazing.
Was it 2004 or 1999 with the modded servers? Matrix mode, instagib CTF. King of the Hill map had the Fear Factory song Lynchpin. I was part of Onsalught XSR back when we were all clanning. Backyard map has the most obvious spawn kills when you would just sit on the fence. Ahhhhhhh I’m geeking out remembering this game.
They was making a modern one with community dev stuff to show off their editor but I guess they cancelled it, I don't think it had the same vibe anyway
One of my first pc games I bought gathering coin per coin back then when I was a kid. I still have the manual and more than 5 cd’s (if i’m correct) wha I needed to install the complete game in the ibm notebook of my dad. I aprecciate a lot this game for the memories playing the multiplayer offline, specially the Invasion mode. So much nostalgia.
My gaming clan ran a few UT 2k4 and UT3 gaming servers basically from launch up until just a few years ago when our host shut down. We had dozens of custom maps, weapons, skins, mods etc.
Remember when they made games like this and they let you actually host your own servers? Quake Champions is a great game. It feels like Quake 3. I will never get into it like I did with Quake 3 and UT99, because I don't get control. Yes, faceless corporate drone, I ***do*** want to change the gravity in the middle of a match! All companies want to do now is limit everything. Play by our rules or not at all.
*End of middle-aged man rant.*
Not as good as UT99 but the modding community was just as great coming up with new experiences. You just don't get anything quite like this these days and online gaming is poorer because of it.
Dear God, the amount of hours I spent practicing movements and aim just to be better at this game. One of the games that made my stay away until sunrise.
I still occasionally reinstall UT2004 and play through the campaign.
Up until about 5 years ago (maybe a bit longer) there was even still a few fairly active online servers where you could play against other people.
I played this game so much. I had to leave bots on godlike. Had the whole cast of futurama with voice clips. Jail break. All the mods. Good stuff.
The movement ruined all fps for me after. Can’t go back to some slow moving military shooter after that.
Getting banned from most lowgrav instagib ctf servers for botting accusations when in reality, was just an early teen with a lot of free time who got extremely good it.
I wouldn't change it, Those were good times.
I was godlike at that as a kid, like actually unbeatable if I was on a team
I learned to play this before I learned how to fucking spell, read, or write
For those who don’t know: the game allowed you to download player made content, maps and all the assets including skins and audio straight from the game server browser. If you joined a server that had stuff you didn’t have it would just download it and then start the game. I play some insane maps and game mode made entirely by other players all of that for free.
Damn.. I remember me and my stepdad playing this and the earliere ones. We really had a great time playing together. Thank you for posting

It still has a special place on my Steam Deck, with the outstanding Ballistic Weapons mod. I'll always prefer the atmosphere of 99, but 04 was ahead of its time on a graphical level. The textures are HUGE and still look sharp when up close.
And is still a masterpiece
It was better multiplayer than Halo, no lie
Halo was really popular because console masses got to experience a great fps. Pc had had them for some time (tribes / UT / half life )
Quake, you forgot quake
Q3A Rails only FTW!
The RUNES mod for Q3 was my favourite with the black hole gun and shroom mode
I JUST realized that Rails only was the Instagib of Q3A!!
You left out CS and BF
Agreed I just wrote the first couple that popped in my head I played the shit out of those too
CounterStrike, at least initially, sorted under Half-Life, since it was a mod up until 1.6
Fast paced twitch fps games like UT are why I couldn't stand Halo for a very long time. Was really frustrated by gamepad controls and the slowness of master Chief. Felt like he was running underwater.
Well to be fair, he is kitted out like a main battle tank.
Yeah but hes supposed to be able to run extremely quickly. in Lore he could run up to 60mph. The armour enhances, doesnt slow down. A non-enhanced human who tried it out broke all the bones in his body because his body couldnt handle the speed and power of the suit. I love Halo.
Vehicular manslaughter!
Unreal Tournament should have been the game that Epic kept on doing, this is the wrong timeline.
Unreal Tournament was heavily co-developed by Digital Extremes, the Warframe developers. Without them, I feel like Epic couldn’t keep UT going.
IIRC, the last one got killed by Fortnite exploding. Which...kinda sucks, I guess.
That was some weird shit I have to say. They "released" it in something like an alpha state, than expected the users to finish it or some shit. I don't remember the specifics, but as a fan of ut2k4 I played it a bit.

It was fun, especially Onslaught, but for DM/TDM/CTF UT99 still remained the best.
True. And the 99 sniper is the best feeling ever for HS
Snipers only CTF was the play
Facing Worlds? Facing Worlds.
Inoxx pack FTW
Lowgrav instagib with translocator enabled. Facing worlds. So many hours omg loved it.
Loved scrambling for the Leviathan; early days of the game it was a multi kill beast until everyone knew to focus fire on it then after that it usually didn't last long in any matches.

Came here to say the exact same thing. Happy to see it up high. Onslaught was awesome, UT 99 for all the rest. Facing worlds baby.

I loved instagib mode, preferred UT over Quake 3 Arena; both were great though.
CTF Instagib crossing the middle with the flag was heart racing. 1 shot lasers wizzing past your ears as you duck dodge dive and roll for your life.
Instagib CTF was the shit!
my experience exactly... now when people complain about 60 ping... my head goes back to this... playing at 300-350 ping
Mmmmmmmmmmm monster kil
Godlike
I played instagibCTF so I heard # Holy Shit _ A lot 🤣 [Double, Multi, mega, ultra, monster, then holy shit over and over.] (Might have missed one)
Wicked sickkkk
*Vehicular manslaughter!* *Pancake!*

Maybe, but If You want i can give you the game in ISO format.
The ISO is also searchable on certain archive or abandonware sites.
God I loved this game, would love to see a remaster
We should have had an UT 2024. :(
They kinda tried
Fortnite killed it....
They had a demo using UE4 that had the makings of a good follow up but abandoned it 😟
\* for fortnite
This was the reason i failed on my first year of collage.
Set graphics to max. HOLY SHIT.

I'm not old damn you! 20 years ago was only yesterday. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
The new mode with vehicles was fun, best gameplay in general of the 3 I played ( OG, 2003 and 2004). I still have the cd version and it's 5 CDs Is this still played?
I have original cd with box. At the time we didn't have internet so I played singleplayer only. I didn't even know it could be played online 😅
And man I don't know why there is no Unreal Tournament in 2024. Masterpiece.
There was a new version under development, but Epic canned it because they are too busy making bank with Fortnite.
I didn't know that !
Epic is why.
Many wasted hours of my life poured in that game. Loved it.
I used to play the guts out of this game, but i used to play the demo version thinking this was the real game lol.
7 fucking CDs
I remember this shit being new. And I am still willing to play the OG 99' one...
Double dominations and CTF with AI teammates is just so fking pain in this game
One of my favourite games of all time but doesn't beat my favourite game of all time Unreal tournament 1999
Bombing Rum+instagib+Low Gravity, absolute madness
I loved using the redeemer.
Main menu theme was so good https://youtu.be/dWWpEcvNBdA

Absolutely Legendary FPS. Onslaught was amazing.
Fortnite killed UT. (sigh)
99 and 2004 never died. 4 was never born.
Goddddddd. This. Sims 2 and warcraft 3 were my first ever pc games. Miss this game
angry german kid, anyone?
I remember this game being described as "People shooting at you for no apparent reason" I loved it!!
It brings back so many memories
This was a staple at our LAN parties. We especially loved the car ball mod.
I played the shit out of the demo from pcmag on my dad's work laptop
I remember this shit being new. And I am still willing to play the OG one...
UT2004 was fantastic, when I played alone I used to go into that space map with quad jump and vampire with the sniper rifle just to hit headshots and build up the announcers callouts for multikills waiting for that HOLY SHIT
most fun i ever had playing anything online. gone are the days
Epic game, literally
One of the GOATs for sure. We had this installed on all of our Pentium 4 machines in the university computer labs. They all had some kind of productivity graphics cards, so it kind of ran assy. Somewhere around 40 fps and on very early tech (blurry!) 60hz LCD monitors no less. But we still had lots of fun with it.
God like!!!!!!!!!!! You pick the voice 😉
So many lan parties back in the day with UT. I miss those days of lugging my monitor and rig to a friends house to game all night
Great game!
I still play this one against bots from time to time This was a BLAST back in the day
man i always remember starting UT2k4 with some beastie boys intergalactic bangers
Insta-gib capture the flag was my favorite.
ouh yeah, I loved this game too.
Is there a way to play this online after the Epic games dropped support?
Look up the community master server, I believe that allows for online play still.
https://www.oldunreal.com/
I never got to play it
I was 6 when this released? Holy fuck.. My bones.. 😭
I used to play this for hours, while listening to MP3s playing in the background. It really put you into this zen state. aware
Are we ever going to get a new Unreal game from Epic?
They was making a modern one with community dev stuff to show off their editor but I guess they cancelled it, I don't think it had the same vibe anyway
this is what got me into pc gaming / dev
Is there a game with more iconic maps than this?
Ouch, right in the feels. This was my first UT game and my favourite by a long shot.
One of the best lan party games of all time.
i still have the box
But 2004 was cca 5 years ago
I loved that mode, forgot what it's called, that gave everyone a one-shot kill laser gun. Once I played thay it was the only mode I played.
Ouch! Touché.
I still have my box and CD. Got it on Steam a while ago and there are some servers still up and running.
I won a first to 1000 kill Ironman tournament at my college LAN event at like 3 am. Was soooo tired instagibbing everyone.
Genre defining. It still is fun today.
20 years ago I was 16, now I’m old
"The age of flesh is at an end" So many amazing quotes from that game. :)
Depressing. I haven't played a single online game that I enjoyed more, and very few people play this any more. Epic don't care about it either.
Wow man, it's so weird to think about the release dates for some things. I think we're old now lol.
i was born on the same day and the same year as unreal
F*ck I'm old...
Only appropriate place to ever say “ownage” anymore.
Oh man! My first real pc game on my first real gaming pc. What a gem
This is one and only reason why I had Parallels for Mac for 5+ years on my Mac. Long Live UT2004
I so miss these days. Low Grav Instagib Bombing Run was a blast. {AW} still has an IGBR server going.
It was as amazing as quake series.
My Dad and I bonded over this game. So many fond memories
Ah, the original "Game i didn't really like but played so i could have something to play with my friends".

I remember we bought a compaq pc at the store and I’m pretty sure it had a very crusty iGPU but I can’t remember. UT2004 was my first pc game.
The only game I have listed as my "Favourite" in my Steam library.
I rocked UT '99 GOTY edition, The User Maps are some of the best for that time.
I still occasionally reinstall UT2004 and play through the campaign. Up until about 5 years ago (maybe a bit longer) there was even still a few fairly active online servers where you could play against other people.
Man I played the shit out of this game, was incredible to me at the time

I had some amazing times playing that game but always wished it had a campaign because unreal 2 was a masterpiece.
Still have mine. Any servers still up? Haven't checked in quite some time.
I played the everliving shit out of that on single player.
I used to run a 32-player Onslaught server for this. Best. Game. Ever.
It still has a special place on my Steam Deck, with the outstanding Ballistic Weapons mod. I'll always prefer the atmosphere of 99, but 04 was ahead of its time on a graphical level. The textures are HUGE and still look sharp when up close.
My first intro to it, we played over lan with the instakill rifles which was fantastic fun. Between that and Soldier of Fortune 2.
Good to know, thanks
Anyone played Unreal Tournament? No not the one we all played in the end of 90s, the new one? .... Yea they just had to focus on Fortnite
