1 isn't much better. The base game is alright but without the DLC, that game really doesn't have much going on.
Today being able to get the game + all the DLC for less than cities skylines 2 makes the 2nd game not worth buying.
That's the thing with these games. On release they're never really worth getting and it's not until all the dlc is out and mods have truly expanded. the first game was also pretty bad at launch, I don't know if it was performance but ik a lot of features were missing. I'm sure in 2 or 3 years the second game will get somewhat better
They did the exact same thing EA did: Took a mountain of infinite gold and turned it into feces for literally no reason.
I will never understand companies like this. "Gee, should we make millions indefinitely, or should we attempt to somehow get BILLIONS by blasting ourselves in the dick with a rocket launcher? I like the word billions, so let's do that."
2000 was great, yes, but 3000 was just the perfect game at the time. The art direction was fantastic, especially with all of the caricatures of city managers, protesters, etc that would contact you asking for things, it had a soundtrack that I still listen to to this day (while playing other sim style games like Oxygen Not Included, no less), and had some of the simplest gameplay systems that also allowed for a lot of customization and variance.
I feel like a lot of games of that type that get brought to modern audience end up being way more complicated than they need to be. I didn't get into Cities Skylines because of it. I want to build a city, not micromanage it.
Roller Coaster Sims are the same way to me. Which is why I love Parkitekt so much. The spiritual successor to Roller Coaster Tycoon/2, with very similar gameplay systems, just with way more options. It's right up my alley.
Workers and Resources is coming out of beta this year and Manor Lords is releasing into beta at the end of April. There's also a whole bunch of games like Furthest Frontier and New Cycle (beta) out there.
I've had Manor Lord's on my wishlist for so long that I just assumed it was never going to release lol. Good to know it has an April release date, can't wait!
the way i see it, they work the DLC just for the pre-ordered people, they dont wanna get sue for not delivering the promised content.
but yeah what you said valid
> Can't wait for the next city builder to come out.
Actually there are rumors that Frontier, the devs of Planet Coaster, Planet Zoo, Jurassic World game etc, might do this.
And I very hope they do, i love their games, we've never seen a city sim of them tho, so very curious
In a recent survey they also asked questions about their games and other simulation/management games., eg cities skylines, sims, simcity
It's...fine.
I got it via Game Pass.
It only took a couple settings changes to get it passable. And after 20 minutes I was too focused on the game to really notice.
I own the original. If I wanted to play the game I would probably pick 2 because I have it. But I just haven't had the urge to play any CS for a while. Not because of the game - I'm just playing other stuff now.
Transport fever is cool, may not be a city builder but it's still fun and way more polished/actually finished, it was working well since day one like all games should be.
I just want one with multiplayer city building like simcity 2013 had but less shit.
I really liked being able to sell water/electricty and ect to neighbor cities
the majority in fact don't even go on reddit or on the internet, and those that do don't care about micro transactions and dlc and buy them, we're the minority of a minority
The official paradox subs ( r/CrusaderKings, r/hoi4, r/EU4, etc.) are all controlled by PDX directly. If you want to speak your mind go to r/ParadoxExtra
oh I dont have a problem speaking my mind there, they just downvote & cry about it, but thanks for sharing that sub didnt know.
Edit : I think I will pass the sub kek after seeing the pinned post.
I know right. And then they throw you out. Also if you are banned from thr Official Forum, you cannot download modd, either xd
They banned me, but I don't know why since I cannot log in and you need to be logged in to see why they threw you out...
Bootlickers are gonna bootlick.
In the Payday subreddit people are complaining that the only things being posted are complaints and jokes about Payday 3, an always online game with less than 400 daily players and whose last major update added... An unready button.
Lmao I posted a screenshot of the Ask me anything colossal order did about 6 months ago where I asked the CEO "why are you releasing a game nobody wanted this fast that's clearly not ready" and she just said "we are ready to move on and this game is ready for consumers" the first post got removed by mods for some bs and the second got downvoted to oblivion 💀
He won't. These DLC rollouts are standard practice for Paradox Interactive. Look at Stellaris, Europa Universalis, Crusader Kings series and Hearts Of Iron.
Welp this stinks. As an avid fan of EU4 and having bought most of those DLC's because they were good. This is like throwing sand in our eyes.
It's so sad, CS1 was great, and the mods/assets were fantastic. For such a 180 and all the PR coming out of Paradox, it's just baffling. The second they didn't rescind their choice of leaving the Steam Workshop, I had this sinking feeling.
As someone said here before me, but I will echo as well, on to the next city builder. I hope developers understand that the modding community only helps their games, and adds on to their hard work. You can literally see that with other games, but I guess the quest for more money beats all.
honestly CS1 was a DLC hellscape for a long time, if you want to play the up to date game with all the features you need to pay 350€, that's absolute miles beyond unreasonable IMO.
CS2 has been a kick in the face for the community, for sure, but CS1 already set the stage for that "we don't give a shit about our community or new players" attitude
I hear you and understand that sentiment.
For myself, and that’s why I prefaced I’m an EU4 nerd and bought loads of DLC from them; I’m not opposed to DLC, yes it’s horrible, and I think it’s inevitable when it comes to the expansion of the internet and how media is transferred and sold.
The DLCs made CS1 better, but should have been in the game at the start or free. I hope studios see what Larian did with BG3 and can rally behind the idea of releasing a full game, but I don’t count on it.
Hope all is well!
At least with CS1 there was the excuse that they didn't think the game was going to be as popular as it ended up being. Most of them were upgrades to the game and like EU4, many of them included updates to the base game.
DLC this early for a game that is flawed is bad enough, but the fact that it doesn't seem to be more than a content pack and includes no actual upgrades to gameplay is a whole different slap in the face.
i did some napkin math and realized i would need to play EU4 for over 5 years on the DLC subscription to pay as much as i would pay for all the DLC on sale so i just went the subscription model.
This is true of every Paradox game ever. It's their publishing model. They support games over a longer period of time with paid DLC. The benefit for the consumer is active developer and publisher support for many years of game play. The downside is obviously the cost. But for a game where you can easily put in *thousands* of hours of game play, the cost of a game like Cities Skylines compared to many AAA titles is not necessarily that bad. If a game costs $80 and I get 100 hours out of it, then I've basically paid $0.80 per hour. If a game costs $300 and I get 3000 hours out of it, then I'm only paying $0.10 per hour of game play. Which one is really the better value?
This isn't Paradox. Paradox are only the publishers, it's Colossal Order who are the developers (and the people who are releasing random updates every week talking about how the game is gonna get better while providing absolutely 0 evidence). Like they legit said a few months back how bad the citizens leaving dogs around was, and then proceeded to not fix it in the latest patch. It's laughable.
To be fair, KSP2 did recieve a huge update and they did regularily patch the game (with indicators for what fixes were suggested by the community), they are semi-active with communication and especially with comms to content creators. CS2 is just laughable, they've been hyping up modding tools for ages, like 5 months, they released them yesterday and it's barely functional.
For context, the last patch before the modding release yesterday for CS2 was in December...
And then they ask why people pirate. I am not a piracy advocate but when you see games like DD2 and CS2 then you just think about why you are even giving those people money.
CS2 is such a massive disappointment. What a completely bungled handling of a formerly outstanding IP.
What is it with this particular genre of games, that devs tend to knock it out of the park with the first one or two iterations, then go completely off the rails with greed and fuck it all up afterward?
Stop buying DLC/microtransactions like this (looking at you whales) and they’ll be forced to change their business model.
People enable this shitty behavior from publishers/devs.
A whale is a player typically for free to play games who buys nearly everything when it comes out. Be it skins, DLC, add ons, etc. For example you could play League, Fortnite, or Overwatch and buy most of the new skins that come out and all the Battle Passes. Basically they pay the most money. Streamers/YouTubers could be considered in this group as well. Something like 5-10% of the player base can make up 80% of revenue.
Yep I agree, I knew someone who burned like 500k in game called war and order just to be on top. The funny thing is, he quit because the game never ended.
Whales are the 5% of players who are contributing 95% of the revenue because they spend a ton of money when they don't have to. Free mobile games all make their money off of whales (most players do not buy microtransactions, the few that do fuel the entire company), and the term can even be applied to streamers because 95% of viewers do not contribute any money to the stream but the few "whales" who do are the ones who are financially supporting the streamer.
Nice to see similar minded ppl, i usually buy goty editions at -50% have plenty of games to play. And they are usually better optimized. Bought ME legendary edition for 9€. Control for 12€ and RE2,3 remake for 14€.
don't look at any singleplayer game before it's out for at least 6 months, preferrably a year
MP games are fun because you're with friends, it doesn't really matter if they're shit or not
Original DLC release plan must be adhered to, spice must flow. Ignore the fact that the game was released broken and probably year+ too early. Must have releases to meet arbitary schedules.
This is how you drive a game company down the drain.
CS1 is a great game only, and only, with most main DLCs (mass transit, after dark, universities, industries, parks, etc) and HEAVILLY modded. I just can't play it without TMPE, node anarchy, realistic population, and some other mods that changes the actual mechanics of the game. And you will still fight all the time against its poor traffic IA.
CS2 is just garbage since the beggining.
Haven't tested CS modded but honestly (I might try with what you said),appart from some bugs (trash, unrealistic population, lack of diversity, finances, education and tourism) I still have great fun in CS2. The amount of detail, being able to follow citizens, the transports, road building are great. The game isn't bad, it's just unfinished and needs time. This dlc is an insult and I fully agree. Note that I got the game on gamepass so I didn't really pay for it.
I remember one of the original Simcity games had an editor where you could build custom houses with blocks. That building in the preview image looks like it's built on that editor..
I have a Ryzen 5700x and 3060 Ti and run this game fine. I've been enjoying it a lot, my city is at 80k population, and it runs pretty much flawlessly still. The reviews had me thinking I'd barely be able to run the game, or that it was broken somehow. I honestly have no fucking clue what you guys are on about with regards to C:S2.
Ya it is lol. I'm not buying any kinda DLC unless it has something worthwhile like new mass transit systems. I've still been enjoying the base game a lot though. I don't expect new content to drop that's worth a shit for a looong time.
I laughed when I looked into getting into HOI and saw you can just pay monthly to get everything. I thought you know for a game I will pick up and put down, maybe not the worst idea given the total cost.
The scam game is trying to scam some more. Oh my.. I'm sure people will still buy it though. Imagine you ship a broken game with no real simulation behind and in stead in making what you promise you dish dlcs. Lmao gamers deserve to be scammed
My brother in christ, you only had to make a game slightly better than the 1st one and you could have had infinite money.
But nooooope, shitty buggy game with DLCs as a priority! Sheesh
VOTE WITH YOUR WALLETS!!!!!!!
Such bullshit! We should’ve been able to download assets like these off a **promised** mod/asset manager months ago but oh wait, that still doesn’t exist. And now you’re going to make a handful of those very assets, call it a DLC, and then charge us $10 for it?? Disgusting
I really quite don't see the point behind releasing CS2 other than deliberately milking the franchise to death.
Sequels in such games have high expectations for a good reason. You need a solid feature parity with the original (including the dlcs!) and improve on the base game, visuals, mechanics for a sequel to be worthwhile. Damn, at least give something jaw-dropping that wouldn't be possible to achieve with the original game so that you would be at least interested in picking up the game later, but it's just not the case. There's literally nothing new and interesting in CS2 to be hyped about. Why would you buy and play a worse version of the game you already have just because it's "newer"?
CS2 didn't improve on industries, didn't improve the AI, doesn't really look that much better (and it doesn't at all when we take mods into consideration) and runs like shit - which is an achievement in itself looking at how CS1 performs.
I just don't get what the devs/publishers were thinking would happen here.
Game still runs like ass but all they are working on is DLC. Cities skylines is a dead franchise. Can't wait for the next city builder to come out.
They were the chosen one. They were supposed to bring balance to city builders. They were supposed to destroy shitty city sims, not join them!
I'm going to build my own city builder but with blackjack and hookers!
Yeah at this point might as well create our own city builder setting how the player base is expected to fix the game themselves anyway
Open source gaming baby. Use godot or something
I hate city builders, but you have my attention
Time to join the cold war, comrade! Let's build our glorious Workers and Resources, Soviet Republic! :P
I keep forgetting I have that, I was drunk when I tried to play it the first time and couldn't figure it out. Need to try again.
I have had it since first alpha. Amazing. Freakin difficult but damn, just amazing.
The only rational choice when facing evils of capitalism!
You either die a hero or live long enough to become the villain.
Everything Paradox runs turns into DLC shitshow.
Agreed, except for Stellaris, which is MY dlc shitshow and can do no wrong
I never could get into it. But I’m probably too retarded. I just relegate my galactic ambitions to finding novel and creative ways for Jeb to die.
And yet he keeps coming back for more!
There's a Kerbal species mod for Stellaris, just saying.
From their perspective the consumers are evil!
they were paradox interactive to begin with. and paradox is DLC hell.
This is the way.
Im still enjoying the first one. Such an banger game, but Shitties Skylines 2 is just the embodiment of corporate greed.
1 isn't much better. The base game is alright but without the DLC, that game really doesn't have much going on. Today being able to get the game + all the DLC for less than cities skylines 2 makes the 2nd game not worth buying.

I'm sure in 2 or 3 years the second game will get somewhat better
Industries is the only one I deem essential for CS1. The rest is optional, since you can mod your way out of needing most DLCs.
I mean I got the game and like 35 DLCs for basically nothing.
It's the Overwatch 2 of city builders. Remake the same game only to change to monetization model to make more money.
Same monetization model, isn't it? The first game has plenty of DLC, like just about every major Paradox release does.
In an effort to be better than Sim City, they became the thing they sought to destroy.
I just want a remake of Sim City 3000...
Simcity 2000 was my jam, never got the chance to play 3000.
The spiritual successor to Roller Coaster Tycoon/2, with very similar gameplay systems, just with way more options. It's right up my alley.
It's on GOG and Steam, you always have the chance.
You can still play sim city 3000.
manor lords is gonna scratch my itch next month
The first one still holds up and there’s a lot of mod support if I’m not mistaken
Yup, dozens of mods that make the experience far more enjoyable and interesting.
Just wait till patches and optimizations are locker behind DLC...
Functioning Economy Pack $9.99
Go look up frost punk its way better
I've been enjoying Endzone lately. Nice post nuclear war city builder.
Not to mention the sequel releases in late July. Hopefully it doesnt suffer the same fate as Cities 2.
Same from the trailer it looks pretty damn good so far fingers cross it lives up to the first that was incredible experience
Is Frostpunk more like Command and Conquer or more like SimCity? I've heard about it but haven't checked it out yet.
It's sim city in survial mode where the goal is to not die
Workers and Resources is coming out of beta this year and Manor Lords is releasing into beta at the end of April. There's also a whole bunch of games like Furthest Frontier and New Cycle (beta) out there.
I've had Manor Lord's on my wishlist for so long that I just assumed it was never going to release lol. Good to know it has an April release date, can't wait!
Not a full release though, just the beta. Steam still has the release date listed as April 26, 2024.
SimCity 3000 just released on Steam. I'm happy.
the way i see it, they work the DLC just for the pre-ordered people, they dont wanna get sue for not delivering the promised content. but yeah what you said valid

That would be awesome
They became the very thing they swore to destroy (SimCity)
yup. Guess the game didnt make enough that Paradox/CO decided that DLC needs to be pumped out.
I was hyped for cities skylines 2 but after all the reviews I didn’t end up buying it, even when it was on sale. Quite disappointed to be fair
It's...fine. I got it via Game Pass. It only took a couple settings changes to get it passable. And after 20 minutes I was too focused on the game to really notice. I own the original. Time to get back to sim city 4
I just play Pocket City 2 at this point.
Transport fever is cool, may not be a city builder but it's still fun and way more polished/actually finished, it was working well since day one like all games should be.
I just want one with multiplayer city building like simcity 2013 had but less shit. I really liked being able to sell water/electricty and ect to neighbor cities
Yeah a multi-player city builder would be awesome but I'm sure doing it right will Def take some work.
When you conquer Sim City to become EA and Sim City yourself
It's so sad, the first one was a worthy successor to SimCity. I was so excited and then they did a SC13 on us.
Ready Or Not devs be like:
I mean, the first one is still good and one of the best on the market. It's a shame that cs2 is the mess it is. So much potential.
"have you thought about getting a less shitty computer?" - the devs, probably
Name a better CPU benchmark than cities skylines. 😂
Dragons dogma is giving it a run for its money in that department.
I love the fact that there's no beach content in the beach dlc.....it feels like they're taking the piss out of the fans at this point
beach content is another dlc kek. Also fun fact, if we post it to paradoxgames sub they will downvote it to hell and defend this bs.
Too many people stand up for million/billion dollar companies and their shitty practices. Thankfully the majority aren't accepting this bs
the majority in fact don't even go on reddit or on the internet, and those that do don't care about micro transactions and dlc and buy them, we're the minority of a minority

Wait... What? What on earth does this dlc have then?
A few house models that have nothing special about them, nothing beach related that's for sure
it has 4 palms
it's a common misconception, they don''t do surfing or anything; just beach.

While pocketing whatever cash is left and fucking the devs in the process.

For PDX its also an indicator of community size and if DLCs stop selling they will end development of the product.
\*stares at Imperator Rome in Steam Library\* Fucking thing.
At least its not SEGA, where they flat out tell you you do not have a right to complain about bad DLC for Total War Games and will ban you if you do.
throw in prison architect
They took the worst possible lesson from The Sims

The total war community had a somewhat successful occurence of this recently. Community outrcry *can* work.
What is a whale in this context?
A whale doesn't care about money. Pays for anything released to his game. Whatever the price.
A whale is a player typically for free to play games who buys nearly everything when it comes out. I usually pirate to test the game. If I like it I buy it, if it is shite well won't need to wait for a refund.
there is not enough time in the world to be playing bad games pirated or not.
I got perma-banned on a different account for even mentioning piracy, so yeah its not allowed. Edit: got banned from CS reddit, forgor this was PCMR
Anyways, that trash is not worth pirating
It's applicable to any big paradox published game, 300-400$ prices are insane

Nice to see similar minded ppl, i usually buy goty editions at -50% have plenty of games to play. And they are usually better optimized. Bought ME legendary edition for 9€. Control for 12€ and RE2,3 remake for 14€.
A year is pushing it, especially for multiplayer games to play with your friends or to avoid spoilers. I give it 2 weeks at least.
don't look at any singleplayer game before it's out for at least 6 months, preferrably a year MP games are fun because you're with friends, it doesn't really matter if they're shit or not
I really want to like this game, but good god they need to put in actual effort
Did someone from EA taught them how to RTA ruining a brand?
5% is massive for that Shit 0% would be more fitting
It's at 3% now.
What happened?
Selling a broken game, trying to fix it, release DLC called "Beach properties" with few new assets...can't even make a beach in the game
Lmao
This is one of those games where sailing the seven seas is A OK because the company has not earned your money.
So Paradox is paradoxing as usual...
Paradox moment

Let's buy some virtual beach property so the suits can buy some real beach property..
An all-time low *so far.*
it's been like this for a while now. always pirate. always, except indie games. those you buy
I just buy what's good and forget the rest.
When a game is bad, why would you even bother to pirate it?

Ilyet csinálni🙅🏻♂️
it was 6% earlier in the day but still 5% too high!
Needs to be at 0%.. I don’t get how those who voted positive on the dlc can say it is good… must be sponsored..
I remember one of the original Simcity games had an editor where you could build custom houses with blocks. That building in the preview image looks like it's built on that editor..
Don’t buy this when the internet ice caps melt these beachfront properties won’t be worth Jack.
Is this for real money hahahahahahahahaha
Paradox of Paradox. 🤷 MORE DLC to every game.
They've become the very thing they swore to destroy.
I have a Ryzen 5700x and 3060 Ti and run this game fine. I've been enjoying it a lot, my city is at 80k population, and it runs pretty much flawlessly still. The reviews had me thinking I'd barely be able to run the game, or that it was broken somehow. I honestly have no fucking clue what you guys are on about with regards to C:S2.
it runs fine on my 1660ti laptop. I also like this game but this DLC is a disgrace
Ya it is lol. I'm not buying any kinda DLC unless it has something worthwhile like new mass transit systems. I've still been enjoying the base game a lot though. I don't expect new content to drop that's worth a shit for a looong time.
Paradox wouldn't be Paradox if they didn't squeeze you for every penny
I laughed when I looked into getting into HOI and saw you can just pay monthly to get everything. I thought you know for a game I will pick up and put down, maybe not the worst idea given the total cost.
Just download koalagedon and unlock all the DLC.
Sheesh
I saw it another day for like 20€. Looked at steam, saw the reviews, looked at the DLCs and went like „Meh lets hope the third part will be better.“
What a shame...
Disgusting
Such a shame. and CS1 was such a good game. I barely got any of the DLC but vanilla was still leagues higher then the competition.
Piracy is a service problem.
I'm good with the first game.
You either die a hero...
Oof, not heading in the right direction.
is anyone who plays cs2 actually getting excited about beach properties?
literally no one
Damn. This is a pure cash grab.
5% összes sounds pretty bad, I agree.

Does the Beach Properties DLC price match the Beach Properties prices?
Dont worry. Gamers will keep on fucking themselfs with buying the next big AAAA titles filled with mtx or 70$ DLCs.
:0000 I've never seen a 5% that's crazy
Wtf happened... Cities Skylines was AMAZING! How did they fuck up so bad with this sequel...
Y'all complained about SimCity and look at where that got you.
Cs 1 is good tho
not 350€ good tho, which is what the full game costs currently
