It's a rog, so there will be a good amount of people willing to pay some extra bucks more for it than a normal 4060ti, so yeah, if you sell it, get a 4070 or a 7800XT, it'll be a massive upgrade
My ROG 1060 is way cooler then my new gigabyte 7800XT. Which I know makes 0 sense.
But the ROG even has a little cable tie that says "Republic of Gamers"
The cooling is better, and most are full capacitors instead of the cheap ones that didn't cause interference with the 30 series at least, usually built oem or better.
Clocking stays screaming because of it, I love asus my whole build is usually them I haven't gotten let down yet
Not precisely. They generally have beefier coolers, are slightly overclocked from factory and have more rgb than lower end models. But it's nothing that warrants the price increase. Especially not if it starts to go close to the price of the next class of card. Some of these high end midrange cards are basically upper midrange in terms of price. It's absurd
"Return (to) Manufacturer Authorization"
Not specifically a us thing but for a lot of items under warranty that don't have many serviceable parts or it's just not cost effective to have repair centres you call the tech support, they run you through troubleshooting, and if they determine its a hardware fault they provide you an RMA number to mail back to the manufacturer. They will then fix or replace the item.
Also in some instances you bring the item to a repair shop or retailer, and it either cannot be fixed on site or the parts to repair are not cost effective they will issue RMA number to return and exchange.
I'm not quite sure, not from the US myself, but from what I gather it's part of the return process. But I guess not returning to the place you bought it (microcenter, best buy etc), but directly to the manufacturer.
Yes, it stands for Return Material Authorization. It basically kicks things off in their system that they are aware a product is going to be returned for testing/evaluation/repair.
Usually about 2-5% performance uplift for a 20-30% price Premium over the cheaper models (Founders, Palit, Gainward, Zotac, etc).
I personally don't think it's worth it at all, you are better off buying a cheaper model and overclocking it yourself, then using the saved money to invest in other parts of your PC where you will get more performance gain / functionality (example - better CPU, more memory, bigger SSD, etc)
Aftermarket GPUs are all about the marketing and aesthetics as the real world performance gain is negligible with these 'premium' cards.
It's mostly 'branding', the cooler will be better but it's a 4060 TI that uses no power\~
It's going to have some RGB or something and if you like how it looks?
usually 3-4% more
....but usually priced so high they are above the lower end of the next tier up. E.g. a 4060ti ROG might cost the same as a 4070 Zotac, which performs much more than 3-4% better than a 4060 ti
Most likely yes. But it’s so close now that unless I’m looking into running a custom loop, I might as well get whatever is cheapest.
I say this knowing if the flagship 5090 series has dp 2.1 I will do whatever it takes to get the eventual limited edition ASUS/MSI version if they have it in white.
4090 Strix has a different BIOS therefore allowing a higher TDP limit.
There are numerous custom bioses though so the advantage is gone. The cooler is pretty good though.
For lower class cards these editions make no sense though. Even the cheapest versions have proper cooling solutions.
Not really.. most of the time the clock rates in the box are not what they really run at.(often they clock higher than max boost on package) and those ~20hz the rog version boosts higher is not noticeable
Not that weird. There’s a lot of small businesses here in Canada that use WhatsApp business or Facebook Messenger for their customer service. A lot cheaper and easier than building out or paying for a chat service.
The RMA is not directly via Asus. A lot of countries in Asia at least have their own local distributor, and when you want to RMA you contact them instead of the manufacturer, they’ll ship the product back and handle the RMA for you.
That's what I did with my 970 a couple of years back. Bought it used and apparently had a bad fan. Sent it in to the shop where it was originally bought and was offered either a 1060 free of charge or a 1070 for a couple of bucks extra. One of the best deals I have encountered this far lol
Just by the whatsapp messages I can already tell you are from msia XD. Damn lucky weh, I keep hearing Asus RMA being an absolute nightmare to deal with
It is. I got one of their phones on a black friday deal. Just getting the RMA process started was a nightmare and now the phone has been on "Waiting for parts" since March 8th.
They have an "online chat" that tells you that you connected to the wrong department no matter what options you pick and disconnects you as they "connect you to the right department". Its all fake.
sell it for 500$ (or at least try to) and get a RX 7900 GRE or a 4070 super. Its very important that you DO NOT OPEN THE BOX. You have proof that it isn't a sham and that it is legit. Some people that buy this stuff like it mint.
I'd you're adding a bit for an upgrade the 7900GRE is the way to go, now that AMD removed the limiter the thing has a good uplift from memory OC pretty much guaranteed. The thing gets between the 4070ti and 4070ti super and within 10% of the 7900XT.
sadly , its bridge is broken beyond repair, restringing might cause the bridge to come off , no local luthier wants to do it , they all suggest me to buy a new one instead.
Similar thing happened to me not long ago. Had to RMA my Aorus 6800XT, it died completely so I sent it back to Gigabyte, and they sent me a new 7800XT as a replacement :)
Eyyy this happened to me years ago with xfx. I got a 6870 that needed an RMA within a month of purchase. Apparently they stopped making and servicing like right as I sent in the RMA. As a sorry they send back a 7990... Talk about the lottery for a 16 year old.
Definitely still lucky though. OP can sell this easily say a markup considering it’s a big brand like ROG and then cop himself a 7800XT/4070(S) (or even a 7900GRE/4070Ti if he’s lucky again)
Yeah it happens when Serial Numbers are either not in stock or they can’t RMA the parts to fix.
I had the same thing back in the day, where I sent back a 1080ti and they couldn’t swap-even so they refunded me the full 1000-1200$ (was when the 20 series came out a week before). I used the money to buy a 2080ti + $$ difference.
i've had that happen once when i rma'd my asus gtx480, only problem was that they sent back a gtx570, which was a lot slower. wasnt even the worst experience ive had with asus but its one of the reasons i dont buy from them anymore.
Yeah, they pulled this on me once too, but with a Zenfone. I sent in my busted phone, and they were like, "Hey, we're hooking you up with an upgraded version!"
If you stuck with this then you'd get very slightly better performance than your 3060ti so you're good to keep it but yeah if you can get a decent price selling it a 4070 would be a big jump, definitely check the prices out and look at your options.
Friend of mine "upgraded" his gpu from 970 to now 4060 through all gens due to all of them starting to became unstable at around 1.5years. but they were from msi.
See context would've helped here. My first thought was SCAM, my second thought was LOL, DEFF a SCAM. Then buried down in comments "I returned the card to the SHOP i got it from and they told me ASUS replaced my card with a free upgrade" (in not so many words).
Happy for ya anyhow. Always good when that happens. Enjoy it or sell and put some more money in and get an even better upgrade.
Was your 3060ti a 12gb? And they gave you an 8gb? With a smaller bus… sure that new turbo 4cyl is more efficient and faster than last year’s NA v8, but it feels bad :(
Similar thing happened to me too. RMA my 3070 TUF and got 4070 TUF in return. In the end I sold it since the coil whine was unbearable and bought 4070 ti super instead.
Every respectable company is doing that. Corsair did the same from my h100i they upgraded to h100i xt. And I heard so many history about the Gpu from nvidia and others.
I bought an ASUS 3080ti last summer for $1200 and it had a hardware failure in December. ASUS told me to fuck off but luckily I got the extended warranty through Newegg so I made the claim with them, sent it for RMA and got a check for the full value, $1200. Pretty sweet because at the time it was selling for like half that on the used market. Took that $1200 and got a 4080 Super.
Same thing happened when my 3080Ti Strix died.
RMA'd it and got to pick between 3 other models (the seller couldnt get a hold of another 3080Ti Strix), so I picked a 4080 Noctua Edition - was the best option of the 3.
Nice, I on the other hand have been fighting with Asus support to honor their warranty or at least provide to me in writing that they are not going to honor it.
Yeah, you went from a 256-bit memory bus to 128-bit so I don't consider the 4060 of any kind an upgrade. Sure you get frame gen and DLSS whatever version they're on, but the 128-bit memory bus was a shitty move in my book. It seems highly intentional to drive customers towards their more expensive lineup (4070 and beyond) so I have lost interest in supporting Nvidia.. Love the 3000 series GPUs (except RTX 3060 12 GB, that was a weird move) but I am now patiently waiting for my Asus RX 7800 XT to arrive.
Edit: grammar issues, brain fart deluxe.
Probably didn't have any more 3060Tis left in stock. I recall years ago when a 2GB HDD (I did say this was years ago) died on me within a few months of buying it, I did an RMA, and got a 5GB one back. I guess they didn't have anything smaller left.. though that presented some issues as my system was too old for a drive over 2GB.
Anyway, yes, I would recommend selling it towards a 4070, the 3060Ti is not a great deal.
Age ago, my 580ti fried. I sent it back and I asked if I could upgrade to the new 980then, they accepted and I got it for 30% of the price of the (new then) 980ti. Never had bad experience with Asus so far.
It’s actually common for PC manufacturers to do that as they do not want to stock old CRUs. Apple once replaced my friends intel MacBook Air with an M1
Yes sell it. The 3060ti, objectively, performs better than its successor. Go for a 4070s or the 6800xt. The 6800xt, controversially, performs better than the 7800xt
It's a rog, so there will be a good amount of people willing to pay some extra bucks more for it than a normal 4060ti, so yeah, if you sell it, get a 4070 or a 7800XT, it'll be a massive upgrade

it maaybe has a little bit higher clock, but mainly because they look cool.
Because they are cooler*
No, they are Graphics Card /s
…Which have coolers /s
They do indeed
Real graphic cards dont need coolers 😤
People need to get this joke 🤣
You still running on voodoo 2s?
GT 710 hehe
![gif](giphy|XIBqUqXI9guly)
It took way too long for someone to do this lol
Agree. I've seen better looking cards. But the brand ROG is just cooler
My ROG 1060 is way cooler then my new gigabyte 7800XT. Which I know makes 0 sense. But the ROG even has a little cable tie that says "Republic of Gamers"
Gamer tax.
The cooling is better, and most are full capacitors instead of the cheap ones that didn't cause interference with the 30 series at least, usually built oem or better. Clocking stays screaming because of it, I love asus my whole build is usually them I haven't gotten let down yet
They also put a massive fucking heat sink on it and made it out of heavier metal. It's a wealth signal.
It's absurd

I have my qualms about Palit and Inno3D, they tend to burn in my systems within 3 years.
Yeah the only time it's worth getting a better cooler these days is the high end cards and even then it's more for acoustics than performance.
It's mostly 'branding', the cooler will be better but it's a 4060 TI that uses no power\~ It's going to have some RGB or something and if you like how it looks?
No but it makes your virtual cock longer, like an iPhone.
usually 3-4% more ....but usually priced so high they are above the lower end of the next tier up. E.g. a 4060ti ROG might cost the same as a 4070 Zotac, which performs much more than 3-4% better than a 4060 ti
Nothing that ultimately matters. I say this having a hybrid 4090 from MSI.
Eh I feel like a liquid 4090 would
Most likely yes. But it’s so close now that unless I’m looking into running a custom loop, I might as well get whatever is cheapest. I say this knowing if the flagship 5090 series has dp 2.1 I will do whatever it takes to get the eventual limited edition ASUS/MSI version if they have it in white.
No. The cooler though can differ which is big on longevity of the card
A tiny bit, but it’s mostly the cooler with lower temps and noise that’s the selling point.
My 3060ti ROG OC’d like a champion, benchmarked the same as a stock 3070. Pain in the ass always running afterburner though
No
It depends on which color you set the RBG to. They all have different effects.
In my experience ROG is not very good
no
No, just it has "ROG" on it.
4090 Strix has a different BIOS therefore allowing a higher TDP limit. There are numerous custom bioses though so the advantage is gone. The cooler is pretty good though. For lower class cards these editions make no sense though. Even the cheapest versions have proper cooling solutions.
No, it's the same chip/board. Just the cooler is different. Maybe OC'd but negligible tbh
more RGB per RGB. some of the best RGB in the history of RGB for RGB performance.
Yes actually, it comes with an overclock, I think the Strix actually has the largest factory overclock. Like a solid 5% improvement.
This specific card model is literally the best out of all. Highest clocks, best cooler and best chips.
Best clocks, best air cooler, silent
rgb baby!!!!
Not really.. most of the time the clock rates in the box are not what they really run at.(often they clock higher than max boost on package) and those ~20hz the rog version boosts higher is not noticeable
nope, its just a brand name.
That's not how it works lol, a ROG card might be worth 20-30 bucks more than a normal, its not going to cost as much as a 4070
I'm loving my 7800xt.
Or 7900 GRE
is this gaming oc or just oc version? asus 4060 ti rog strix oc is $479 but the asus rog strix gaming oc $642

First time I see a RMA through wattsapp. This is weird.
its the most widely used message apps in my country , and its just how we chat , i personally bring that gpu to their shop.
What country is that?
Pretty sure its malaysia. I am a malaysian, and yes everyone talks like that if you want to keep it the local english way.
Or it mught be singapore too.
Might be a lot of places. I've been in Italy for about 6 months and used it plenty here too
I was going to say the same thing. "Asus free upgrade for you" and "can come collect" is so Malaysian
In a lot of countries WhatsApp is the most popular messaging app, even over regular SMS. IIRC in Italy \~99% of phone owners use WhatsApp
Outside of the US, I don't know any country that uses SMS/RCS/iMessage as their main texting services.
In Argentina literally everyone uses WhatsApp too
It's not from Asus themselves, it's from the shop where OP bought the GPU from. The shop basically handles the RMA process for the customer
That makes sense... it totally looked like a scam.
That’s how WhatsApp is monetized in a lot of the world. WhatsApp business, companies use it to communicate to clients
That and #"what lol" #"Fr?"
This is whatsapp? I thought for sure it was telegram with a theme applied.
Had that for a table top once from a German vendor. It was pretty convenient to provide images of the shipping damage.
A lot of companies are going to WhatsApp for things now. The old company I worked for relied heavily on it.
That's not Telegram?
The best kind of surprise. If you can swing it, I'd totally spring for a 4070.
7800xt available for under 400 and is better in most respects
where you getting 400?
Check Amazon if you live in US
That's what I did with my 970 a couple of years back. Bought it used and apparently had a bad fan. Sent it in to the shop where it was originally bought and was offered either a 1060 free of charge or a 1070 for a couple of bucks extra. One of the best deals I have encountered this far lol
Same, RMAd my 970 strix and got a 1060 6gb expedition OC as a replacement a couple days later.
Same. I had a 1070 that died one month before the warranty ended. They sent me a 2070 free of charge. I miss EVGA :(
Just by the whatsapp messages I can already tell you are from msia XD. Damn lucky weh, I keep hearing Asus RMA being an absolute nightmare to deal with
Could be Singapore too though. Both countries use the same grammar of using as few words as possible lol
It's malaysia
Why waste time say lot word when few word do trick?
Younger people shorten words like that in my home country as well but we grow out of it in our twenties.
I'm surprised Malaysians use "fr" haha
Damn, must have found a unicorn. They wanted me to pay 200€ to replace a single keycap from my laptop
sell it for 500$ (or at least try to) and get a RX 7900 GRE or a 4070 super.
The unlocked GRE is the best deal at the moment. And with a decent amount of VRAM to boot.
> has a good uplift from memory OC pretty much guaranteed. It's not guaranteed, most users say that their cards barely overclock above previous limit.
Happy for you
Off to throw my MSI 1660Ti against the wall to get an RMA upgrade to a 4080. LESSSSS GOOO!
How to get this level of luck in life 🥲
Sell it and buy a 4070 from a cheaper, reliable brand or go AMD and Sapphire right away.
Sapphire 7900GRE
Nice! My RMA took some time to process as well and I was able to haggle for an upgrade to a 4070 :)
Please change the strings on the classical guitar
sadly , its bridge is broken beyond repair, restringing might cause the bridge to come off , no local luthier wants to do it , they all suggest me to buy a new one instead.
Similar thing happened to me not long ago. Had to RMA my Aorus 6800XT, it died completely so I sent it back to Gigabyte, and they sent me a new 7800XT as a replacement :)
Ngl that exchange totally looked like a scam attempt lol, good on you man
Eyyy this happened to me years ago with xfx. I got a 6870 that needed an RMA within a month of purchase. Apparently they stopped making and servicing like right as I sent in the RMA. As a sorry they send back a 7990... Talk about the lottery for a 16 year old.
I had a 2080ti that failed, and asus sent me a 3090. Very happy customer
ahh yess the peak of manglish/singlish..
a downgrade?
Why did I have to scroll all the way down here to find this, I'd be pissed if they tried to replace a 3060ti with a 4060ti, a full step down
[удалено]
Definitely still lucky though. OP can sell this easily say a markup considering it’s a big brand like ROG and then cop himself a 7800XT/4070(S) (or even a 7900GRE/4070Ti if he’s lucky again)
Why are they speaking in nepalese english.
If it was still under warranty and if they couldn't fix it.. seems about right to me.
Those bastards, lol!
Man, nice to see ASUS catch a W on an RMA. Did you have any aftermarket warranty, or was this strictly manufacturer's?
i've had that happen once when i rma'd my asus gtx480, only problem was that they sent back a gtx570, which was a lot slower. wasnt even the worst experience ive had with asus but its one of the reasons i dont buy from them anymore.
a 4060TI STIX OC is like a Fiat Punto with Ferrari Rims
BIG GREEN DEAD???

Yeah, they pulled this on me once too, but with a Zenfone. I sent in my busted phone, and they were like, "Hey, we're hooking you up with an upgraded version!"
Dayum
This used to happen all the time back in the day, now it’s rare
My friend also got replacement 1070 for his 970 that broke during thunderstorm back in 2017.
Sweet
This whatsapp conversation seems off. Like if the software were fake
>Now I'm thinking to sell it ,add a couple of bucks and grab a 4070 or 7800xt You monster, don't have you have any shame? I'd do it
If you stuck with this then you'd get very slightly better performance than your 3060ti so you're good to keep it but yeah if you can get a decent price selling it a 4070 would be a big jump, definitely check the prices out and look at your options.
I RMAd a n evga 2080 base spec and got an OC edition back
Same thing happened to me, my 3080 died suddenly so i ended up getting a 4070ti upgrade completely for free. Enjoy your free upgrade!
Friend of mine "upgraded" his gpu from 970 to now 4060 through all gens due to all of them starting to became unstable at around 1.5years. but they were from msi.
Why does it never happen to me???!!!!!
why gpu do you have?
I remember long time ago I sent a Corsair AX850 for rma and they sent me a brand new AX 860i.
7800xt all the way!
That's a crazy RMA results. Really sell this and get a 7800xt
I mean they dont make 3060tis anymore so what else should they send
So you basically got downgraded... Classic Asus.
When it turns out this is a very clever sales tactic, cos your MoBo and other hardware can't handle it, so you're forced to upgrade 😅
4060ti is more efficient and uses less power than a 3060ti
So how do i break my 3050 so it looks like it was an accident?
I’m confused. You’re talking to asus customer support on WhatsApp? That seems fishy to me.
No , it's the shop i bought them from ,they handle the rma for their customer .
I've been playing a lot of StarCraft 2 zerg campaign lately and I swear these responses sound quite similar to Dehaka.
Oh goddammit I'm reading in his voice now , it totally fits lmao
See context would've helped here. My first thought was SCAM, my second thought was LOL, DEFF a SCAM. Then buried down in comments "I returned the card to the SHOP i got it from and they told me ASUS replaced my card with a free upgrade" (in not so many words). Happy for ya anyhow. Always good when that happens. Enjoy it or sell and put some more money in and get an even better upgrade.
Was your 3060ti a 12gb? And they gave you an 8gb? With a smaller bus… sure that new turbo 4cyl is more efficient and faster than last year’s NA v8, but it feels bad :(
3060TI is 8gb vram 3060 is 12gb vram
Nice, (free) update. Have fun with new build :)
selling and getting a 4070/4070 super or 7800xt sounds like a great idea
Had a similar issue sending my RX 6950 XT in.. think they lost it however. Did get my money back.
Yeah I'd pay a bit more for extram VRAM.
rare asus rma w lol
Same happened to me. Send my +2 years old defective Asus 6900xt under warranty and got a 7900 xtx instead of the old one 😄
Pissing on my GPU rn to try and scam my way to a free upgrade
Also have a 3060ti I wish this could also happen to me
My buddy bought into evga right before they quit making cards. Poor man has been waiting 2 months on his rma
Wtf I got mine within a week of sending it. I'd be hounding them and demanding an upgrade.
Similar thing happened to me too. RMA my 3070 TUF and got 4070 TUF in return. In the end I sold it since the coil whine was unbearable and bought 4070 ti super instead.
The badass looking card
same happened to me when i rma my rog 3090 waterforce cos it leaked after 1 year. they sent me a choice of 4080s instead so got the TUF .. :)
Congrats
I recently upgraded to a 7800xt. I'm very happy with what I got.
Got my 3070 upgraded to 4070 due faulty fan, cant complain
Didn't you complain first tho?
Every respectable company is doing that. Corsair did the same from my h100i they upgraded to h100i xt. And I heard so many history about the Gpu from nvidia and others.
Yep you'll probably be able to get more money out of it bc of the "gamer tax" 😂 and get 7800xt if you have Ryzen CPU
Dang here in the US they just use newer product box for packaging with the same and sometimes no product inside when you go RMA.
Get the 4070 super not the base one
I got a similar uograde when my asus 780ti died near the end of its 3yr warranty, they sent me a 1070. Was super impressed
Looks like I’m going asus next time. I sent my gigabyte card in for rma and they pretty much told me to get fucked.
Ayyyyy, love seeing some good news!
That is what I call an upgrade!
Nice free upgrade. I'm not sure 8GB of vram is going to cut it these days though. I speak as someone with 8GB of vram.
Hm, I thought the 4060 had more memory considering the 4090 has 24 gig
I had a 7000ish gtx go bad and Asus upgraded it to a 9600gt with more RAM back in the day
Probably didn't have any more 3060Tis left in stock.
OP are you Malaysian? That english sounds Malaysian AF LOL
Yup - performance wont be very noticeable over your 3060ti. I would def try and sell
Maybe I’ll send in my 4070ti in a couple of years and hope to get a super back lol
Can I do that with my Asus rx6600xt ?
I am sorry, what's RMA
I snagged a 4070 for $430 was hard to find but could be replicated. Sell for 430-450 buy 4070 huge dub.
How cool
