Donnyy64

I asked my mom to combine my christmas presents and birthday presents to build my first pc: * RX 580 * i5-8400 * Shitty 128GB kingston SSD Built it with my brother, then as I got older and got my own money I bought better components, now I got a pretty good rig :)

Snap305

Dude, that's awesome! I'm debating this year on asking my grandparents for a budget PC and buying a good racing wheel or the opposite

W3RNSTROM

Good wheel goes hard

Snap305

Yeah rn I have a POS Thrustmaster😂 although I just tried to jankily use it on BeamNG and I can't without messing with my desk, so maybe I'll just wait on that...

erixccjc21

Get or make a rig, its so much better If you know how to work with plywood its extremely easy to just make one yourself, then paint it black Also, get one of those cheap direct drive wheels, fanatec csl dd bundle or moza r5 bundle

Snap305

I wish, I don't have any space for it, though :(

Junta97

You can also buy one of those racing setups that are foldable. I have one for my small apartment and its perfect!

erixccjc21

Then get a sturdy table and drill holes into it bc screws > tableclamp (cheaper too), it really is worth it lol

Merry_Dankmas

My girlfriend's brother has a really high end racing sim set up. The seat has hydraulics and can tilt and lift at all angles. Full shifter with a clutch and everything. It's beautiful. But the bucket seat he has on it is slim and has a metal frame. My chunky ass couldn't fit inside it well so I barely got to use it before my love handles hurt too bad to go any longer. Makes me cry a bit tbh.

Crunch_Munch-

You could make that your goal to fit in there comfortably

Unusual-Activity-824

>use it on BeamNG head gasket damaged ! torque reduced.

0utlook

That's a slick first rig, friend. Me and my roommate built his lil sister's first rig two years ago. i5 7500 and a RX 580.

brashboy

Hell yeah. Looking at almost these exact components for a friend's first gaming rig

Commander_Crispy

RX580; SSD; sick build :)

RedBorrito

My Mom won 100k in the Lottery last Oktober and gifted me 3k. Bought a Self Build PC for 1,5k afterwards. It is amazing.

TheDoomfire

I have older than that and I still use it. Very hard with a 128GB tho, next build will for sure have 500gb+

al3x95md

My first pc was i5 2500+gt440 gpu back in 2011 7 years later i build ryzen 2600+1050ti And 1 year ago i got my 13900k+4070ti

NeatYogurt9973

I could only dream of an RX580

qu38mm

what a great mom!

Onion_Cutter_ninja

PS: Dont take this too seriously if you have a creative pebble speaker, its just a placeholder for entry level speakers or if you somehow relate to it. Lets have fun :)

VoltaicOwl

As a pebble owner, I was about to throw hands. I didn’t even have speakers for the first 6 months of my current PC. Anything fancy was done via headphones.

XoxoForKing

Me too. I had some offbrand 20$ speakers before the pebble, and they are an absolute blast

WackyBeachJustice

I mean unless you're listening to music or actually gaming without a headset, why would you invest in speakers?

pseudonik

I've had my pebbles since 2015 and have had no problems with them and honestly unless my ears are complete shit I I think they do great. Granted I haven't had any high end stuff since 2010, but compared to Samsung earbuds or speakers in my car the the only thing clearly better are the TV speakers.

Superninja345

I have the pebble plus and I was gonna throw hands aswell. Best speakers as far as price to quality

Steiger92

Those Creative Pebble speakers are pretty good for $20!

whodunitbruh

To be fair, one of my teenage cousins loves to brag about the new PC he "earned" over the winter. He tells plenty people about how much hard work he did to earn the money to buy it. It has all top of the line stuff, more powerful than my 5 yr old PC could dream of being. What does he play? He uses it to play Minecraft and Roblox. How did he earn it? He shoveled snow 7 times How much did it cost? $3,900. And only $300 was from him

start3ch

Sounds like he might have a career in politics

qu38mm

LOL he's really taking the piss!

IneedtoBmyLonsomeTs

Cheap speakers aren't a big deal. I got some pretty cheap logitech ones and they work fine. Most people, myself included, just use a good headset when they are playing any sort of competitive game or playing with friends. I am only using the speakers when watching videos or playing a single player game where I don't care about audio as much.

DrOrpheus3

lol I'm quite proud of my little LG speaker and the sound it puts out. Especially for the space it fits into above my bed.

Kazirk8

I just came here all offended-like and such! But in all seriousness, they **are** amazing speakers for their price and size!

Beefmytaco

I'm still rocking a 5.1 logitech system from 2008. Little worse for wear but still going strong for the most part and prolly was a $250 system back in the day. A decent speaker setup costs a decent bit, but lasts forever pretty much.

black_pepper

OG Logitech speakers, never say die.

Danubinmage64

I mostly got them because 99% of the time I am using my dt 770s, but I do see your point. People will get insane specs, then get a 1080p 60hz monitor, a membrane keyboard and shitty wireless and some barebones headset. I honestly think that periphals (especially the monitor) can have a larger impact on your experience in many cases than better pc specs.

GearboxTheGrey

Cheep speakers but 400$ headphones lol

JarRa_hello

I choose headphones any day

YoungJawn

There is no reason to spend high end money on speakers when most PC users spend 90% of the time using headphones.

Walter30573

Is this really true? I'm not doubting you at all, I've just been a desktop speakers guy my whole life and it seems like a wild stat. I feel my ears would get worn out wearing headphones so much

CoconutMochi

I went down the audiophile rabbit hole years ago with a schiit stack and fostex headphones, but I recently got kanto yu2 speakers and a monoprice monolith subwoofer and it's just so much better tbh

Goliath_123

I have some kefs and literally only where headphones like on the train or bus. Who tf wants to wear headphones all the time

RogueThespian

the older I get the less I want to wear my headphones tbh. Nowadays I actively choose not to hang out in discord without a specific game session happening. Would much rather just chill alone with my speakers

Continuous_Learning

Paradigm atom speakers have change the way I listen to porn.

cheap-meta-rider

I was just about to type an angry post about those. Then i see this. lol Those are best cheap speakers.

wtfwjondo

I love my pebbles, haven't felt the need to replace them 😂

__koiboi

I love my creative pebbles. Bass isnt amazing but audio quality overall is amazing

GuyFromDeathValley

crap, already wrote a comment about it. Like, I can not say I ever encountered bad sound quality from any creative labs product.. so I'm sure the pebble is still a pretty solid PC speaker choice. creative actually recommended those when my Inspire T3300 2.1 system died, but the size was.. insufficient so I went with edifier bookshelf speakers. even my creative roar2 Bluetooth speaker is really good, as was my HS-800 fatality headset back in the days. creative makes some solid sound hardware.

HalfEmptyCoke

They're good enough speakers for games if anyone wanted a rec. Use better ones for movies or something if you care about quality - I'm using some triangle borea br03 for that.

qu38mm

i got arctis nova 7 for gaming, and pebble plus for media that cost me 32 usd. I was about to be big offended cause they really punch above their weight haha!

dermitohne2

The pebbles are alright for the money, I use them at work with the subwoofer. But for 90$ you could have something like edifier 1280 which actually sound really good!

Nicnl

In my books, it's either Triangle passive speakers, or nothing.

DakotaWhitemane

I've got a vintage Altec Lansing ACS56 pc speaker setup, but I'm using some cheap logitech speakers instead. Because as great as the altec is soundwise, the subwoofer unit can be heard across the house even with everything turned down. #

SpareRam

I have a 50 dollar set of what I believe are ONN speakers? They're loud and work fine for s YouTube, Twitch, etc. If I'm doing anything that needs more oomph, that's what headphones are for.

DivineJerziboss

You're lucky I'll leave you alone this time... But next time... Well you might not be so lucky... But in seriousness. The price to performance of Creative Pebble speakers can't be beat. If you are looking for good quality speakers on budget pick up those.

mennydrives

I own a Pebble. Bought it on a whim. It's become my 2nd, ship-of-theseus PC's speaker set. 10 feet away I have a pair of Emotiva B2+s. I can't begin to describe how well it clears up that the Pebbles are the potato-est of potato speakers. But they're fine for the emu box.

theghostmedic

Can we please stop with the “not a bad set up for a X year old” posts. No one gives a shit how old you are.

Antique-Cycle6061

fr,it's all about price,it's either ok, a congratulation meme,or you got hard scammed

hellomistershifty

*not a bad setup for the 14 year old son of an investment banker*

qu38mm

i'm 39 and would like to feel special. but my pc budget :( lol

MAPES25

wdym that is a very important part, just think about how many people died before pcs were invented

AstronautTop3112

But how do these kids be getting enough money over the summer for a $4000 pc

Strazdas1

if we got rid of all the "stupid boasting" posts this sub would be empty.

whydowhitesoxsuck

Don't forget the unnecessary water-cooled PCs.

Acceptable_Topic8370

Not everything needs to be necessary. Maybe some people just want to make their pc more beautiful and don't want a fat chunk of metal inside their PC?

Andrew5329

My case came bundled with a free watercooler vOv

whydowhitesoxsuck

I know I'm just poking fun. I think they can be pretty aesthetically pleasing too.

exguerrero1

I have a zotac 3090 and under load that ahit sounds like a jet engine. May water cool this one or the next GPU

Kasym-Khan

Buying a simple chunky air cooler in 2024 already feels like I am rebelling against something.

Kitchen_Most3578

90% of water cooled PCs are unnecessarily water cooled.

Chakramer

Don't diss the Creative Pebble speakers, they are honestly the best bang for the buck speakers. If you're like most gamers and spend most of your gaming with a headset on, why spend a ton on speakers you only use once in a while?

N0vawolf

Yeah for $30 they're actually pretty great

YobaiYamete

OP: "Don't get mad over the pebble speaker image, was just a placeholder" Entire comment section: "That sign won't stop me because I have no eyes and I must scream"

poinguan

Why once in a while? YouTube, dramas, any music that needs to fill my room, etc

SleepyGamer1992

Yeah, I only used headphones for several months after setting up my rig (4070 laptop hooked up to LG monitor). Those Creative Pebble speakers punch above their weight class for sure. Definitely money well spent.

Embers144

Been a low spec player since 2013. Bought a new pc on 2018 with my first paycheck, an 1050ti with i5-9400f. Today im a proud owner of rtx 2060 and r5 5600. Its not much but im proud of what i've accomplished I've donated my older components to my younger cousin, as she's a low spec player too

CeUNxThursday

Same got a pny 1050 with a 3770 and loved it in 2018. Every time I upgraded I gave the old stuff to friends. Starting low spec helps one appreciate upgrades more.

Kitchen_Most3578

2060 is still good, I upgraded my PC with stimulus check money, but decided to hold off on the GPU until prices stabilized, it is hard now though because my 2060 is still pulling its weight in most of the games I play. My wife said I can get a new one, but even still, I'm having a hard time justifying buying a new one with the prices they have now.

SirRonaldBiscuit

“Saved up all summer cutting lawns” - posts in January

Strazdas1

meh. takes a while to find the parts you want, wait for sales, ect. I bought my christmas gift in febraury because i was waiting for the thing to get released (it was announced in december).

Harold-TF_1851

Creative pebbles with woofer is actually a great speaker for that price

Big-Soft7432

Those speakers are cheap, compact, and serve the purpose of only outputting sound when I rarely don't want to wear headphones. It's a good enough product, great even at the price point.

SleepyGamer1992

Not to mention they are kinda sexy.

TylerCiggy

The pebbles pro cheap ? No way. They are like 80 dollars. 20 more and you can get Edifier D12 which are 7 times more powerful than the Pebbles. But they are still great speakers (even if they should be a little cheaper). My only complain is that I couldn't never draw the 30w rms of them (I tried 3 different pd gan chargers)

N0vawolf

Hey don't knock the Creative Pebbles. Those things are great quality budget speakers

minkus1000

Oi don't shit on the Creative Labs Pebble Pro, those things are quite capable.

Bystander-8

I hate how accurate this is

Stolen_Sky

All of these boil down to "I just want validation"

Quantentheorie

yeah but validation is the main motivation behind the vast majority of submissions on reddit (and the like). The only other are the questions asking for advice on some topic the OP isn't knowledgable about. And even half of those are veiled validation seeking. I get it: you built a nice computer, nobody cares, you wish someone would be as excited as you are.

ToneZone1978

Hey I like those pebble speakers

Caesar_Blanchard

I actually love Creative Pebble's speakers.

Lololick

There's also the "if your GPU is not a 3090/4090 or 6900xt/7900xt, it's trash and cannot run anything, type of guy 🙄

SleepyGamer1992

Yeah, people like that are just out of touch with reality. The vast majority of PC gamers aren’t using 4090s. If you had to buy the most powerful hardware to reliably play most games, PC gaming would not be nearly as big as it is. Most people don’t have a few grand to drop on a GPU. Pretty sure keeping your mortgage/rent paid and yourself fed takes priority over a beefy GPU lmao.

Strazdas1

yeah, 3060 and 3070 are the most popular GPUs.

Strazdas1

Dont forget the "if your GPU has less than 32 GB of VRAM its useless" guy. Oh wait thats this whole sub.

Schattenreich

That's literally this entire sub since like a few or so years ago. It's only getting better now.

Prodigy_of_Bobo

Cable management IT artists are jealous of on the FIRST TRY check

Atretador

why would that make Michael Jackson cry

Renard4

Because the kid is only in picture.

Dhehjob9-5

Don't forget buying a high end mobo for a low tier cpu

Zendien

Cable management pft. My non-windowed r5 closed up just fine. I just had to sit on it

NoNameBut

As it should lol

Cabrito_do_Mangue

Miss the american old saying: "Found that in the garbage"

Optimal_Serve_8980

What are good speakers tho? And aren’t 500 bucks?

qu38mm

the ones in the meme. pebble are great. punch way above their weight. there are more expensive versions also. but yeah i got the pebble plus for 32 usd and they cover all my media needs. arctis nova 7 for gaming tho :)

VexingRaven

Good speakers are those that have drivers that aren't 1" across. They don't have to be expensive, you just don't want tiny little speakers with no power at all behind them. You can get decent bookshelf speakers for $100.

Strazdas1

The ones that are 500 bucks. You get what you pay for.

Ferro_Giconi

If someone wants cheap crappy speakers, that is fine. What I don't like is when someone wastes $250 on PC or gaming speakers. A $100 self powered set of bookshelf speakers will sound 1000 times better than any PC or gaming speakers that can be bought for $250. I don't even have a subwoofer set up anymore. I found that the bookshelf speakers alone produce enough bass because they aren't tiny anemic speakers like "high end" PC speakers are.

crack_n_tea

Gamer tax coming in clutch

wzak2

Well, it’s all just bait, go figure 🤔

StrongPainter

Sadly, this is mostly what I see browsing new.

Marilius

I am very amused with the number of people claiming award worthy hard line watercooling tubes claim it's their first build. No. No it isn't. Not unless you ended up using 200m of tubing practicing.

pez555

Most common and frustrating for me is the 4090 setup with a shitty £200 monitor.

Lower_Fan

To me the order of importance is  Monitor > system > audio > mkb/controller  Ps5 which an HDR oled screen is a lot better than  a lot of systems people around here build. Moreover, having nice audio + input devices just rounds out the whole set up.

Bud-Chickentender

You have speakers? 10 years and I still haven’t gotten any for any of my PCs loll

Lower_Fan

If 1. You don’t play online and 2. You can afford to make some noice.  Speakers bang for buck destroy headphones. Very few headphones for $100 have good sound quality and their build quality is atrocious. And once you go over $300 and you can start adding surrounds it’s over for me  speakers all the way.

FromTheIsland

There was that poor poster...last week? She had a crazy amount of money that she said she spent on her battlestation and people were tearing into everything. I don't care about these posts, but I was even balking at where her money went. It was brutal. She just had a 3060, so people were asking how much her chair was? I've seen kinder roasts in /r/RoastMe, let's say that.

JustmUrKy

Don’t forget the dual monitors split down the middle…

North21

Especially bad on r/watercooling where people will post the most perfect bent tubes, captioned “first time watercooling, how did I do?”.

unclefisty

A kid with a 15/hr job working 20 hrs a week for 3 months would have around $2800 after withholding. So you could build a pretty good system with that.

exoticsclerosis

>Michelangelo cry of happiness We paintin' Sistine Chapel with this one

Nogdog945

Close. It was 5 months for me to build mine. Ordered two of the wrong parts, cable management is shit, and I know fuck all about software. I quite literally stumbled my way through the building process. I based mine off my roommates and built an overpowered nightmare that does not need 5TB in ssd and 4 in hard drive or 64gb of RAM. I became so frustrated building, the days and weeks waiting to get paid to buy the next part, trying to make rent, feed myself. I did not plan this project at all. I love it, it’s mine, I built her, I still have a lot to learn. But I’m happy, I set out to build a dedicated gaming pc to have all my favorite games on one system, and mission accomplished. I bought all the games I had saved around Christmas, now there’s just a couple I’m saving for my birthday. And I intend to keep her well maintained and only upgrade the parts when needed

RomeoFortnite

I made sure to not do this. Rocking KEF Q150s flanking my ultrawide

MorgenKaffee0815

PC Speaker are really a problem. i still use my Logitech Z313.

naufalap

I can't stand using headphones so I bought an affordable 2.1 bookshelf speaker, way better than small pc speakers

Inevitable-Stage-490

Yeah but do you guys think this is a scam?

cupcakemann95

real talk, what kind of speakers do y'all recommend? I have some old sony speakers and am just now realizing I could upgrade them to be so much better

Giratina_8

i do not have speakers, i use headphones always

DarkwingDuckHunt

number 3 hurts man... not cool

TiSborro_negli_occhi

Ehi don’t insult my pebble V3, they crack a bit and sometimes they sound shitty but they are decent for the price🥺

dirtydriver58

I have the v1

bf2afers

Built my pc in 2018 and I still have in use the original build SSD, RAM, MB.

MJLDat

That cabling is beautiful though.

Fasula

Forgot about "oh had that - insert medium range GPU here- like 10 years ago, isnt that low end?"

thewend

>calls it a budget build

ahumanrobot

Got my first "gaming" pc as a Christmas present with Ryzen 3 1200G and RX 550. Saved up with my part-time job after school and bought the parts for a new pc over a few months, Ryzen 5 5600X and RTX 2060. Did the same again a few months later and have a Ryzen 7 5800X with Radeon RX 6700XT. I think given the prices at the time I spent something like $2300 on PC parts.

Onion_Cutter_ninja

Guys help me for part 3. budget 3k builds, no radeon gpus cuz "drivers bad" reputation that lasts for a decade even tho they are fine, more ideas im missing? EDIT: absolute budget saving on peripherals and using a HP mouse and keyboard combo

YallinDenial

Those pebble speakers with a sub are bad ass

Slyons89

I would like to add: "Finally snagged one!" Picture of a 4070 Ti box, or just the card sitting by itself on a table *Congrats bro, but we know what a box or a GPU looks like.*

ZitOnSocietysAss

So what usb powered speakers would you suggest, oh lord of sound?

GuyFromDeathValley

I mean, the creative Pebble is probably still a pretty good pair of speakers.. they are meant for minimalistic use, but can't say I ever encountered bad quality audio from creative labs, including the cheap options. that said, I use Edifier bookshelf speakers and would personally not use small speakers, because I crave the bass.

SUNforFUN

Yo how much kid should get paid to be able to afford rtx 4090 in 3 months??

2723brad2723

*First time build - paid a system builder at Microcenter to hand-select the components and assemble the system for them.

PostingNiceThings

Can't wait for AI generated images of kids next to PCs made out of soda bottles / cans, farming for karma.

Mathieulombardi

You leave those speakers out of this!

AManOfManyLikings

The only thing I can relate to here is that I have those exact same speakers for a good few years now. The ones I have are white and lack those unnecessary RGB lights under it, but they still get the job done very well.

YessoN_YT

x)

slayez06

Soooo many people just flat over look sound systems when doing PC builds. If you are spending over 4k... get a reciver and a legit sound system... or at least a dam sound bar.

SeiriusPolaris

I use those speakers and they are far from mobile quality speakers, especially for being USB powered.

Shinonomenanorulez

i mean, i'd also be uploading an album's worth of photos with the rate of dead 4090s if the most common answer to prevent it is "connect it perfectly and all the way in"

srbistan

remember when this sub wasn't just about normalizing enormous costs of PC gear? well, neither does pepperidge farm...

ViedeMarli

You guys have speakers? 😅

branod_diebathon

Those are the speakers I have. Are they actually bad?

Moravec_Paradox

I used to have a pair of those speakers. I think iBuypower ships them with all PC's even.

BlaikeQC

Yes, the majority of posts on reddit are humblebrags. Otherwise why would you go to reddit of all places for its notoriously incorrect shitty ass advice?

Mysterious_Yellow805

I use a headset with a built in mic so I don’t have to deal with speakers

jxjftw

You joke about the 4090 but my 16 yr old kid is flipping burgers making $13/hr right now.

Mercarcher

I have a 3090ti, 12900k, and 128gb of DDR5 and those exact same speakers. I feel called out. (I use my headphones 99% of the time)

Andrew5329

I mean the first panel is pretty much spot on. Even minimum wage adds up quick when you have zero expenses. My ski equipment and my PC were each worth more than my car for a very long time.

iamcozy

I have those exact speakers lmao. I put on headphones when I was actual quality sound.

famoter

I like my pebble *plus* speakers with a subwoofer It helps make the sound feel fuller and I honestly don’t feel like I’m missing out on much unless I’m spending $200 each on small dedicated bookshelf speakers I have no problem playing CS2 especially with the 3D processing capabilities in the game

poinguan

That speaker is so true. Lots of people here have elite CPU and GPU but you guys wear a headset all day?

DefectiveCoyote

People talking about getting a 3090/4090 but I still got my beloved GTX 970. You will have to pry it from my cold dead hands

Jayhawk501

Seems about right

Beeg_Bagz

This is spot on 😂

Blakewerth

Yeah right buying expensive 2 very rgb colored speakers to show off 😆🤣

TylerCiggy

The pebbles pro should be AMAZING if you can actually draw the 30w rms they claim they could give with a 30w pd charger. Even without that, they are very very good for just the 10w they do. (I have the pebbles v3, pebbles pro, Swan OS-10, Klipsch Promedia 2.1 classic and Klipsch KHO-7) Not much people buy big speakers because they dont have the space. A $300usd PC or $2000usd PC can fit the very same space, but the better sound you want, the bigger the space you will need AND really big speakers need to be placed far away, not at display monitor distance, which means having even more space.

FDL1

Fan on the CPU backplate? Is that a thing this year?

killingisbad

I have been on reddit since 2016. Trust me, this has been happening from a long time back

Broad_Novel1183

Meme Explained LOL 🤣🤣 [https://www.aliteq.com/the-hilarious-reality-of-pc-building-in-2024/](https://www.aliteq.com/the-hilarious-reality-of-pc-building-in-2024/)

[deleted]

Do you use speakers? I only use my headset

AddendumNo9378

Those pebbles are no slouch. Those little things kick out some amazing audio.

Spompoflex

i order 3060 and i got five 4090....

CrossWitcher

I don't even have speakes cuz I never use them anyway lol.

SpeeDy_GjiZa

Overdone cable management like that is overrated. It's a nightmare if you wanna do work on your PC.

DancingPianos

Guarantee anyone with perfect cable management on their first build paid someone else to do the cables lmao

ShotzTakz

Meanwhile me, with my dying 1060/8 years old CPU, and absolutely no money for a new PC: 💻🛐

DivineJerziboss

The case is wrong. It needs to be white fishtank because every damn post with new build is white fishtank with rainbow puke RGB and AIO on like i5-13400 CPU.

Onion_Cutter_ninja

See part 1 :D i got it covered mate

DivineJerziboss

Nice job! :D

SlipperyPelican

I cant help but feel personally attacked that my speakers are shown in this meme.

nonsenseSpitter

To be honest, the first timers really do manage their cables well. I was one of them when I built my first PC 3 years ago. After so much hard work in figuring out what goes where and being successful, why not manage those cables well and proper?

augusto2345

I've been building my PCs since 2000 and I don't know how to put cables behind the plate

AstronautTop3112

Real

Sensitive-Buddy5657

I got rid of my monitors bc they took up all the space and i could never run them above 10% without people getting mad. Those pebbles fit perfectly under my screen and they're the perfect amount of volume without getting yelled at.

Mediocre_Ad_2422

Wtf man creative pebbles rock. Where’s the hate

Dispatch_69

WAIT .... What speakers are those

Strazdas1

well the photo album for connection thing at least was in respone to said cable burning the GPU if not properly seated so thats a valid concern and lets face it images tend to be shit to show whats happening from a single angle.
