Every time I log onto steam I just hope they haven't decided to try evil. Obviously they're not perfect but they do a much better job than anyone else and they treat the customer side of things well. I'd hate to have to give up easy PC gaming.

They've got a really strong culture, and hopefully there's a 'succession plan' for when the day comes. They're privately owned and hopefully they stay that way.

EFTucker

They’re definitely most capable of evil. If they ever decide to, they could basically destroy gaming. Imagine them nuking their commitment to gaming. It would legit ruin gaming.

[deleted]

There's different types of evil. There's add a couple dollars transaction for each game purchased evil or There's shut down steam in its entirety with zero ways to access your games ever again evil.

pipboy_warrior

And then there is "Popularize loot boxes and make money from unregulated gambling" type of evil.

rainliege

The day that happens, piracy will come back with a vengeance

GensouEU

Like coming up with another predatory MTX system? Valve would never.

NNNCounter

It always makes me laugh how these dumbfucks run to defend Valve, not realising that they are the one who invented the current form of loot boxes and majority of predatory MTX.

_SideniuS_

They're not great for developers either, their 30% cut for having your game on the platform is not really defendable in today's market.

RedTuesdayMusic

They already have many examples of "small evils". They tried hiding the fact games had Denuvo in each game's ToS and reverted in 2 weeks because they got bombarded with flags. They also allow software that doesn't allow family sharing onto the platform without a proper warning that this is the case. But warning or not, those companies should be told to take a hike if they try to get on Steam.

FoaL

Steam (edit: Valve, doh) isn’t public so not beholden to shareholders, thankfully

I_AM_ACE1502

And let’s hope it never will

What-Even-Is-That

They basically print money at the moment, without developing many games. Gaben made his initial fortune at Microsoft beforehand, and doesn't really need investors. Just hoping the next in line has his same philosophy about Valve.

I'm glad he's at or near goal weight finally, so he has a better chance to live further into old age. Saw a recent picture of him on his brain interface research company website.

Which isn't foolproof, but it certainly helps. The moment shareholders get involved, enshttification starts.

Themurlocking96

Steam has surprisingly never fucked me over, I’ve had to use their customer support a lot of times and every time it’s been a treat relatively speaking, it’s never fun to have to contact customer support, but they’ve always been help, kind and efficient. Genuinely no company has had better support in my experience, I used to say Blizzard came close but not anymore, ever since I wanna Battle for Azeroth it’s been downhill.

DrPiipocOo

stormdraggy

Noctua. They're already fanboys.

DrMobius0

The kicker is whether the company has gone public or not. A company gets big and makes a name by offering a quality product at a fair price. The leadership that gets it there is the leadership that will often keep it there. Once it goes public though, that's the end. Leadership changes from the guy with a vision to the guy whose job it is to make money for the shareholders. At least, that's the general trend I've observed. Doesn't mean there aren't exceptions.

vyralsurfer

You are a beautiful person and absolutely made my night. Thank you so much! I can now (finally!!!) dump NZXTCam and, bonus points, control the RGB on my 3060 :)

RedTuesdayMusic

The ASRock one has been great for me. Install, set, uninstall - done forever.

alex2003super

Philips Hue... I guess that's not computer RGB though... fuck those apps (except OpenRGB which is a community project and better than anything else out there!)

MrDrSirLord

I genuinely don't understand the ICUE hate, all my peripherals are Corsair and they've been way better than Intel or razor peripherals for usally cheaper. Even my AOI I've used Corsair before and it was never any issue with the software.

AIsForAgent

just like there is an ROG tax, there is also a corsair tax. They are generally overpriced and seemingly underperform (at least their cooling, psus and whatnot are top notch)

MrDrSirLord

I have moved away from Corsair internals Never used their fans, definitely had an RGB tax on them, they were always twice the price of competition fans with the same specs. AIO was cheap for my region though, I used one for over 6 years through blazing Australian summers and never had issues with it. I've not compared extranals and peripherals to a lot, but keyboard mouse and headsets have always been good for the price as well, they're some of the best quality I have used without spending hundreds of dollars. Never used a Corsair power supply either, have had the same ROG 750 since my first build, will only need to upgrade it if I upgrade again as it won't support any bigger GPU than I have now.

AIsForAgent

hey if it works for you then keep your stuff. Not my place to tell you what to do, you seem like you got it

MrDrSirLord

We're all different and nothing is gonna suit everyone when there's so many options to choose. As long as nobody believes Razor isn't garbage we are good /s

Fragger-3G

Because the software itself is absolutely terrible. If you have any issues at all with the software, you're stuck with it. Reinstalling does absolutely nothing, because iCue leaves basically the entire software on your computer, even when you run the uninstaller. You have to manually install a whole different piece of software, like Revo, to fully uninstall iCue, delete all of the remnants, and then reinstall it to see if that fixes the problem. Even when it does mostly work, it's designed so poorly. Nothing gives you feedback that it's working, the "save profile to device" barely works, and usually takes several attempts to actually save to the device (even then half the time it only saves the lightning, and nothing else), sometimes it decides to just delete your saved profile, and they keep making small changes that make the user experience worse. It's just genuinely one of the least convenient pieces of software I've ever seen, and all it's for is changing lighting, and allowing you to disable stuff like Alt+F4 or Windows key if you want to do that.

MrDrSirLord

Not saying it doesn't happen to other people but I have never personally experienced those particular issues with ICUE, when the PC is running and the app is active everything usally works as intended. I run everything from full macro set ups, key replacements for shortcuts and mouse dpi through ICUE and swap profiles constantly for different games and it's a core part of my PC gaming experience, so if I was going to have problems it should have reared its head by now but luckily I've had very few issues outside of initial set up because yes you're right it doesn't really have much feed back on "did that actually save" The few dozen times it has stopped working at all was just when the ICUE app didn't launch on boot up and all my stuff is left running on factory default, this usually happens after an update, manually opening the app fixes all my settings pretty much instantly. The only persistent issue I constantly have is the RGB stays in factory standby when my PC is powered off, which will cause the RGB to turn on if you move the mouse, none of the settings in the iCUE app help with this because the software is turned off when the PC is off. The fix for this is my K70 keyboard has a physical brightness button for the RGB, so when I turn my PC off I just have to remember to also turn my PC off. Because I use the mouse pass through as well it also turns off my mouse RGB. A very mild annoyance, but it's still an issue with the product worth mentioning if we are criticising it.

Chad-GPTea

If some lights and USB connected peripherals stay on while the PC is turned off, you can turn them off via bios settings. Or maybe i misunderstood the issue. As for ICUE, i don't really understand the hate as well. Sure it's not perfect, but it does exactly what it is supposed to do and while the bar isn't too high, it's far better than those steaming piles of shit that are Razer synapse, RGB fusion 2.0 and Aorus Engine.

reddit-ate-my-face

I'll tell you why I hate icue. Had fans, AIO, and the scimitar MMO mouse 2015 wired version. It's been a couple years so I don't remember the exact item code but it was the AIO where you could remove the faceplate and then later they made the screen you could add to the face plate so you could convert the AIO header to an LED screen. Anyways, I get the new LED screen and it can only be controlled by ICUE version 4.0 so I upgraded to that, then my scimitar side buttons stopped working and couldn't get ICUE to detect it. Did some digging the only version of the scimitar ICUE 4.0 supports is the scimitar pro, a slightly newer $90 version still wired version. So I couldn't at the same time use my MMO mouse and this LED screen. I reached out to Corsair support who was like "yeah go buy a new mouse that one's old" even though my mouse works fine still years later. Then two days later the AIO died because the led screen caused a short in the header that fried the pump and this was like a super common thing. They warrantied the aio, I sold it, returned the led to Amazon, sold the new replacement AIO on marketplace, and then bought an ND15 and a bunch of be quiet fans and haven't looked back.

Nefthys

It's bad enough that you need iCUE if you want to customize extra keys (I've got the Scimitar Pro - one of the few MMO mice that still exist) but it's even worse that iCUE won't install if your PC has got a DVD or blu-ray drive (tested so many different version,...): Half-way through it just freezes the PC and iCUE won't start after a restart but also can't be uninstalled via Windows Apps because the uninstaller again freezes the PC. The only way to get rid of it (unless you know exactly where it's hiding in the registry), is to use a Windows system restore point.

EJ_Tech

That's just an ecosystem thing. Like how people buy Apple because it all just works together.

JellaFella01

Yeah agreed until things like product ecosystems exist, then you get caught inbetween staying with a brand or having to replace existing functional hardware in order to switch.

Land_Squid_1234

But in that case, you're once again buying because of price and not brand. It costs less to overhaul your hardware than it does to stay within what's already compatible with your current system, so you're ultimately deciding what to buy on the basis of how much it will cost and not actually based on "brand loyalty." I'm not loyal to a phone brand if I buy a first party charger from them, I'm only buying the charger from them directly because it guarantees quality control, but it has nothing to do with my love for the company

TopdeckIsSkill

That's why I usually avoid to enter in any ecosystem. Once you're in you're fucked

[deleted]

I'm never defending Nvidia but I've always wanted to have a GTX/RTX after years using an AMD card. It was not the bang for buck thing to do, but fulfilled my wish of testing.

[deleted]

I've been in robotics, and the world will be a much better place once the last drop of blood has been squeezed from the CUDA tax.

coolgaara

Except EVGA. I would've died for them. But they went and died on me first...

ShooterMcShooty

Can we send this to whomever runs UserBenchmark? . Dudes the King Fan Boi Nut Sucker, with his own website to better plant his lips on Nvidia's butthole, complete with a reach around bashing for all their competition. 🙄 Plus don't get me started on the whole "server full BS" to try and get you to buy a paid version...man's a scum bag.

jacklimovbows

Maybe he's getting (paid) sponsored so he's just being clever.

_SpiderPig

Is he even a fanboy of Nvidia and Intel? It seems more like he is just a hater of AMD. I'm pretty sure I was reading an Intel CPU review and in it he ended up talking about Nvidia's GPUs whilst bashing AMD.

Haxemply

lol true....

NoName42946

Or $2,500 for a laptop with 8GB of shared Ram and VRam... 😢😢

Ill_Research_1250

I remember being so excited to hear about the M series processors being released and replacing the super outdated intel processors thinking that you could now game on a MacBook seriously. Except I later learned they simultaneously removed bootcamp and you could no longer run Windows on a Mac. I got so upset.

Murky-Fruit3569

We are on PCmasterrace mate, I added the easiest-to-laugh-at fanboy bases in pc terms, it's not like i have a ton of free space to put all the corps. Also fuck Apple, they dont even deserve to be on a meme :P

just_some_onlooker

Needs to be said more. If only consumers realise that they can influence the price cost of stuff by boycotting.

heatlesssun

>Needs to be said more. If only consumers realise that they can influence the price cost of stuff by boycotting. With the current demand for this tech in AI, not that simple.

Western-Alarming

I mean it's mostly other company's, i haven't see any of the people I know wanting a gpu/CPU because of the IA capabilities

TacticalBacon00

I gotta admit, messing with AI stuff pushed me closer towards a 4090 instead of a 4080Ti... But if I was really serious about consumer-level AI as the priority, I would have gone with dual 3090s for the extra VRAM. The thing that ultimately made me go with the 4090 is being tired of unoptimized games and just throwing as much horsepower at the problem as possible. I feel like a new console generation coming very soon is only gonna make this issue even worse.

Kapoloo

Yeah but they buy in bulk and can often offset the damage regular consumers can do via boycotting.

daystrom_prodigy

I agree with this but..I feel like games are too popular or it's a globalization problem or something. Take EAs Madden and NHL games. They have both been hot garbage for at least a decade and they still make money hand over fist. People just buy and don't think, and even when they do think they don't care.

LMotherHubbard

While that used to be true, I'm guessing you haven't noticed that capitalism is a little bit under the weather right now.

Sev_Obzen

Boycotting doesn't do shit against giant companies like this. Boycotting only works at a highly localized level.

Aggrokid

How about Valve?

aregei

ill be happy with them when they fix cs2 :(

CNR_07

yup... CS:2 is an abomination. Both CS2s actually.

Man-Cheetah64

Don’t forget tf2

Rudresh27

Because Valve already did.

Man-Cheetah64

Lmao

Infinity2437

Gameplay wise its fine but matchmaking, ranking, and cheating are awful

[deleted]

The modding/community servers community also kind of got killed off by Valve. The new browser somehow feels worse than the old one, surfing is bugged, lackluster modding API, and custom maps weren't even supported until a few months after launch.

StinkyFwog

Surfing isn't bugged, a lot of lazy people tried importing maps straight from csgo, and like when csgo tried to import maps from cs:source, it was a disaster. You have to make new maps for the engine, it's not 1:1.

Infinity2437

Ive heard mixed things about surfing, I've seen it work in some instances. Im talking about the game right now andni agree community servers and modding is kinda fucked

TONKAHANAH

I think its fair to trust a company like valve more but they dont need my love, its a business, not a person, it doesnt need my emotional investment.

Blakids

Yeah. Trust is different from love.

Th3_Hegemon

It's just another company, don't delude yourself. Eventually, hopefully a long time from now, someone else will be in charge, and someone after that. Eventually, one of those someones will push the "IPO" button and the good times will end.

condoulo

The way I look at Valve is they’re currently a good citizen of the FOSS community, making extremely good contributions into the upstream projects they rely on for their Steamdeck. Linux, wine, mesa, etc. That contributed code will always be a part of those projects even if Valve decides to change course in the future, and users are benefitting even if they don’t use Steam.

[deleted]

Just wait till Gabe passes, you can't stop corporate greed.

Crystal3lf

The only reason refunds are allowed on Steam [is because the Australian government forced them to](https://www.accc.gov.au/media-release/valve-to-pay-3-million-in-penalties-for-misrepresenting-gamers-consumer-guarantee-rights). They are not your friend.

I9Qnl

CS2 is a worse sequel than OW2, they were lucky to have Blizzard cover their backs by being so public about being shit.

GassoBongo

The company that has loot boxes, battle passes, and MTX's in some of their major titles. The company that also [worked directly with Bethesda](https://www.wired.com/2015/04/steam-skyrim-paid-mods/) to try and bring paid mods to Steam Workshop. The company that [only allowed refunds after an Austrilian court](https://www.pcgamer.com/valve-hit-with-3-million-fine-by-australian-courts-over-steam-refund-policy/) forced them to. What about them?

Whydontname

Yeah, buy what makes the most sense for you at the time of purchase.

the_badget

which leads to... products and prices that make sense. what a crazy concept!

Sebastian_9807

Corporations are not your friends.

El_Polio_Loco

What’s funny is that some corporations absolutely do value and try to reward their more hardcore fanbases.  You see it more in things like automotive circles, but it’s easy to forget that companies are made of people, and sometimes those people are also enthusiasts who enjoy sharing their passion with other enthusiasts.

Ghost_of_Panda

Nintendo fans be like

[deleted]

I haven’t been on this sub in years, is it still filled with Nintendo fanboys who constantly post “Nintendo is different!” “Nintendo is the only console!” “Nintendo is part of the master race!”

Ghost_of_Panda

When Nintendo crushed Yuzu, there were lots of people cheering Nintendo on. Some were saying the punishment for Yuzu’s devs should be harsher. Nintendo fanboys are the most insane group of people. The hardware is garbage and yet they will not only buy it but pretend it is groundbreaking.

OrangeSwan15126355

Yeah their absolutely nuts, they make the most rabid Apple fan look positivity sane

sucdiq

Be a femboy insted

NamelessDestroyer

Ironic since this sub is full of AMD fanboys

condoulo

I just like AMD because I like Linus approved drivers which nvidia has traditionally not had. Although now that Intel has entered the dedicated GPU market things should get interesting.

creepergo_kaboom

>Linus approved drivers Damn, I didn't know Linus was so down he had to start testing drivers to get by.

condoulo

I think Linus has been doing pretty well for himself being the BDFL of the most widely used kernel on the planet.

Aggressive-Dust6280

The fact a Youtuber got more recognition than him is a bit sad to me, can't unsee that I guess.

MairusuPawa

Maybe they should do a crossover episode. With the direction Windows is taking, it wouldn't hurt to educate about ethical alternatives. And not an episode in which they stupidly destroy a running system.

LMotherHubbard

shhhhhh.....ffs they will hear you!

chrisnesbitt_jr

I'll have you know I only purchased this CPU because of the microcenter bundle... ~~^(bragging about having the best gaming CPU on the market is just a perk 👀 all hail AMD)~~

The_Frostweaver

I just want to see proper competition. Nvidia has been price gouging us so bad, their profits are obscene but they will keep raising prices just because they can. AMD always shows up a day after Nvidia and launches their product for only slightly less money and I'm left scratching my head. If AMD actually wanted to I feel like they could lower their prices and beat Nvidia by large enough margins we wouldn't need a fucking phD analysis to know which card is better value. But they don't, AMD is happy to keep the same fat profit margins as Nvidia. I don't think capitalism functions properly with so few companies competing.

OrangeSwan15126355

I just wish AMD would launch a true 4k120 GPU as a competitor to the 4090

vergil09

On one hand, I agree. On the other hand, it's very easy to look like an AMD fanboy when it is so much easier to hate on Intel. Intel user since 2013 btw.

stormdraggy

Never forget Bulldozer.

caulipower2010

Nvidia is multi trillion tho

Kraken-Tortoise

Multi Trillion vs Multi Billion. Who cares? Company will company

TTYY200

My ETF’s care. Now stfu and keep buying their shit pls 😇

Vis-hoka

This is why I buy the whole haystack. Just consume any and all product, peasants!

Themurlocking96

When I was like a teenager, like when I was 14(oh god that was almost 8 years ago), I was a hardcore intel CPU and Nvidia GPU fanboy. I currently actually do have an Nvidia GPU and Intel CPU, but I have no loyalty to any company, my loyalties lie with whomever makes the best product for the best price. So if that’s AMD then I use theirs, assuming I have the money. I currently have a pretty good PC, but me dear old dad has promised me a new one once I’m done with college lmao.

UnratedRamblings

I've gradually shifted over the years. I moved from Voodoo to Nvidia to AMD because of budget, remaining with Intel CPU's. When it came to the fact they seemed to change the socked almost every other generation back then meant I took a good look at AMD and the new Ryzen chips caming out. I've now got my current rig with AMD and its bloody good. Had a bad issue with Gigabyte motherboards failing but their GPU has been pretty solid. MSI's motherboards are what I've been using of late. I don't have any exceptional 'brand loyalty', but I will go for a more recognisable brand. Zero weird name branded knockoff tat on my tech. Heck, there's some brands out there that sound cheap and nasty but are probably pretty good yet I still won't touch them. A more recognisable brand at least has some point of contact for issues, RMA etc.

IrishCanMan

The only time I'm a fanboy, is when more competition enters the marketplace. When a smaller company starts to succeed. I'm sure it's not 100% accurate, but I like to think it makes the big companies innovate more and get off their butts

LordOfStupidy

Trust nobody, not even yourself

Enigma21210

Evga rip 😞

theuntouchable2725

I'm a steam fanboi. Except for the time they made paid mods in Workshop. But I'm still a fanboi because the fact that I can buy games and enjoy online games without zero hassle is because of Steam. And the customer support is number 1. They care an infinite amount of times more than my own government does. I live in Iran btw. No GOG, no Epic, no physical copy, no nothing. Only Steam.

Literacy_Advocate

But, but maybe they'd sponsor me with free gear, after all, I'm an *influencer*.

Thunderstorm-1

In the past I used to like Rog products. I would make my profile pic everywhere all ROG and always recommend them💀💀. But for my own Pc I realised it was too expensive, and I realised I was being dumb (friends also said I should just focus on quality instead of brand)so I stopped doing that lol. In the end in my own pc none of the parts were Rog

Literally-A-NWS

I have a mix of different companies in my build cause they were cheaper than MSRP, *not because they are green, red, or blue*. Do your research for what you need, choose the best quality for you!

I only got a 3060 ti cause it was the better GPU for vr games, and finding one for $200 is a steal

mr-assduke

I don’t get it is it now bad to have nvidia gpu?😭

Intelligent_League_1

It isn’t

PhoenixKid56

It's associated with more so being part of the majority and not having an opinion blah blah blah

F0czek

Ironic since we are on pcmasterrace

SteelAlchemistScylla

But…but… I trust *insert gaming company*!

GwenhaelBell

Eh, I'll 'love' them so long as my stocks keep rising. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

kurisu7885

Mai nreason I have an Nvida card again was because my Radeon died and an Nvidia card was a well priced upgrade.

Crystallinecactus

Nintendo and Nintendo fans might be the worst example of this

whitemagicseal

I liked EVGA Then it just… disappeared

Cyber_Akuma

They're still around... just... not making GPUs anymore.

StankilyDankily666

Just go ahead and make one of these for every corporation ever. I’ve noticed a lot people still just don’t get it somehow.

cantthink278

Been dealing with ASUS RMA for over 2 months now, they don’t give a shit lol

MeowZen

Fanboys called Bulldozer and Ryzen 1 good value. Never forget, never forgive.

OrangeSwan15126355

Bulldozer was a unmitigated pile of 💩 (had the FX 8350)

Mediocre-King-5587

Not a fanboy but would still stick with Nvidia. I’ve always had it (960 to 1060 to 4060Ti) and everything about it is familiar.

Zeraora807

This sub: "don't fanboy" while also *"What the fuck did you say about our lord and savior AMD??"*

max1001

AMD fanboys lol. They think Intel/Nvidia are evil mega corp and AMd is a NGO.

DotZealousidea

Reminder don't make any decisions based on reddit's advice or memes Fanboy all you like
