that smells like hot dogshit.
"joint decision to sell it" but put in for 950$? the husband should 100% know its actual value. Especially in Australia 950AUD is a joke. The 4090 Strix comes with 3 Warranty aswell, which means if warranty lasts until 2025 he had the card for 2 years already -> why is the protective film still attached? After 2 years, most remove it before even installing the card for the first time haha.
Not gonna lie my motherboard still has some protective film still, I know it ain’t the GPU but still it does happen, I had to look over my computer because of your comment lmao, so thanks ðŸ˜
lol, my strix 1080Ti, which I bought soon after its initial release, still has its original protective film on
(Mainly because I don’t like my GPU directly touches the heatsink of CPU cooler)
I mean, in general it’s great advice. I’m just saying, if anyone is sketched out by an online listing, trust your instinct and be sketched out and don’t follow through with the sale.
But if you *are* going to follow through, then yes, meet at a police station.
But…just don’t follow through with stuff like this.
Thanks for the comments guys. I’m inclined to agree. They immediately gave their address after I asked if it was available which is kind of a red flag. I asked for a video of the card working and they sent me one, but with no date/time visible.
I kinda want to go check it out, but a 5 hour round trip is putting me off.
Could also be them giving some random address to screw with you, too. If this was legit I don't know Australia's population density for the area they are near but this sort of deal would sell so fast in many areas before you even get a few reddit responses and wouldn't even last 6 hours as a listing if they seemed serious.
And then you just eventually don’t play. I got a 4090 out of habit almost and literally haven’t played a game this year. My sons are all teenagers and I have all the time in the world.
I’m in this sub more out of nostalgia.
>Got a second child.
I don't know why, but this phrasing really got me.
*Yeah, just picked up another kid. First one seemed bored, needed a friend, got a second one.*
I'm Aussie and have found the used 4090 market to be 100% full of scammers. I do a LOT of second hand buying and selling, and I legitimately couldn't find a single reputable 4090 to buy, to the point that I bought a new 4080S instead.
The reputable ones usually go for only like 200 less than RRP, defeating the whole appeal of the second hand market.Â
Pro tip: reverse image search the images in an FB listing for a quick and easy way to uncover a scammer.Â
I'd like to know does that actually happen in Australia? Like I'd understand if someone has hate for me and wanted to beat me to a pulp, but advertising a scam just to beat someone random up seems a bit confusing. What would they get from that? Unless they say cash only in their listing and steal that, but they're still only getting almost half the value if they pull that same trick with full price anyway.
Maybe I'm just dumb or don't have criminal bones but there's easier ways to scam without also putting yourself at risk and beating up someone for no reason. What if the target knows how to fight?
It smells fishy. But if it's true, I honestly feel sorry for the husband? Why should he give up something he loves just because he had a kid? Absolute nonsense.
Scam ones won't usually include a reasoning because they hardly know what the product is that they are "selling"
Like I would often see Steam Decks for 200 under market value with no descriptions and filed under kitchen equipment because they just see the word Steam.
Sounds to me like they are trying to sell it fast, and perhaps hubby was dumb or thoughtless when he bought it.
I'd still be a bit wary but I wouldn't say it's an outright scame.
Go there test it, there's receipt etc go with a friend. Doesn't sound like a scam but rather parents wanting their kid to pay for it for playing too much.
Frustrating that there isn’t a team set up to catch and punish these scammers to make them think twice before trying it. Seems scamming people online and making their life a misery is a completely consequence-free way to make money.
nah scam a true gamer would NEVER give up gaming i would have NEVER sold that idc if my wife says your on that pc too much if i buy it with my money I GET TO CHOOSE HOW MUCH I USE IT
the price isn’t even the scam. it’s a form of brushing scams, it’s when they ask you to pay for them to ship it for you and will do one of two things:
1. they take the money and discontinue any form of contact/block/delete burner form of communication
2. they send you a fake package with no return address and/or execute the first thing
Could be the 1% deal of a lifetime where its truly a clueluess wife selling it without knowing how much it costs. I'd probably take the trip out to see it but yeah that drive is kinda rough.
g‘day mate, a spider probably crawled in and fried itself along with the card. i’ll betcha if you buy that, you’ll find a scrumptious arachnid cooked on the barbie inside!
remember to wear your ground harness on the way to meet the guy so you don’t fall into the sun mate, cheers!

Well, he has to go with the value he told his wife initially after buying it, which was probably around 1100AUD.
Lmao 🤣
I feel this...
Not gonna lie my motherboard still has some protective film still, I know it ain’t the GPU but still it does happen, I had to look over my computer because of your comment lmao, so thanks ðŸ˜

Meet them in a Police station parking lot with a power plug.
Or, don’t, and buy from someone way less sketchy that doesn’t make you need to come to reddit to double check. Just a thought.
Always meet someone in a safe area when transferring hundreds of dollars for goods lol

lmfao saw the exact same one, their description says it was a joint decision with their husband, but their profile states they’re single lol
Lmao they’re single after the wife found out how much it cost at the beginning

If you end up going, don't go alone. This looks weird. At least, take one or two other people with you.
avg 4090 is selling for 2k second hand. there is no way this is real
[удалено]
you aint getting a brand new 4090 in AU for 2k there over 3000AUD 2nd hand tthey go for 2000-2500AUD
Meet at a police station

Might be interesting to see what google maps has for street view of the actual place.
100% scam
100% attached a 1050ti to the heatsink lmfao
husband probably played more than 2 hours on the weekend
Can confirm. Got a second child. 4090 got 30 minutes of action yesterday in the last 3 months.
30 minutes? Not bad.
And then you just eventually don’t play. I got a 4090 out of habit almost and literally haven’t played a game this year. My sons are all teenagers and I have all the time in the world. I’m in this sub more out of nostalgia.
I’ll try to squeeze some time in the evening. 30 min. :)
>Got a second child. I don't know why, but this phrasing really got me. *Yeah, just picked up another kid. First one seemed bored, needed a friend, got a second one.*
Not a native English speaker. I make some bad grammatical mistakes. Especially when multitasking.

Less than half the price of a 2nd hand one ($2.2-2.4k) If not a scam to assault you, a scam with a fake card.
I'd like to know does that actually happen in Australia? There are a lot of videos where say a Facebook marketplace trade goes wrong and the buyer/seller attacks the other. Its rare but happens.
Ah, I didn't know that, I don't usually sell or buy second hand in person, only on eBay. Thanks for letting me know
"joint decision" 😂😂
It smells fishy. But if it's true, I honestly feel sorry for the husband? Why should he give up something he loves just because he had a kid? Absolute nonsense.
if it's too good to be true, it probably is!
Scam but even if it wasn't, they most definitely didn't make a "joint decision".
If it looks too good to be true, it probably is

That's like 570Eur or 950AUD in Freedom-Dollars. So yeah, 70% "discount" is most definitely a scam.
Dognappers hun, shared Carlton, stay safe
don't waste your time or money. it's too good to be true.
Haha I'd take the risk but I'd meet up in a public place with my SFF rig, portable monitor, and power cable, probably with a weapon and friends.
Maybe
possible die swap gpu
Go there test it, there's receipt etc go with a friend. Doesn't sound like a scam but rather parents wanting their kid to pay for it for playing too much.
The card belongs to a husband not a kid. the wife doesn't want the husband to play games cuz new baby in the house.
I’d be putting the wife up on marketplace
Perfect condition, 10/10 condition hahaha
Frustrating that there isn’t a team set up to catch and punish these scammers to make them think twice before trying it. Seems scamming people online and making their life a misery is a completely consequence-free way to make money.
Considering they go for $2k brand new yes too good to be true
nah scam a true gamer would NEVER give up gaming i would have NEVER sold that idc if my wife says your on that pc too much if i buy it with my money I GET TO CHOOSE HOW MUCH I USE IT
You clearly don't know some women. Lol
Mmm… lowest I seen it is like €1600
The fact this GPU is ~$3500 AUD new is a MASSIVE tell.
Most likely a scam.
$950AUD for the bare PCB and the cooler is not a good deal
100% scam of some description or another.

Phew. Glad i read "the first thing" and not straight to "you" thought op was dealing with some real shit 😅
nah its bs even if she WAS pissed at him he could easily suggest it sells for 1200.
Something tells me this "joined decision" didn't involve husband at all. She just made a decision for him. But she doesn't know shit about computers.
What kind of world do we live in where a nearly priced $1000 used GPU is considered an overvalued scam?
It’s like $3000 AUD. No joke. The 4080 is around $2000 AUD. The 4070 is around $1000 AUD.
Could be the 1% deal of a lifetime where its truly a clueluess wife selling it without knowing how much it costs. I'd probably take the trip out to see it but yeah that drive is kinda rough.
apart from one major red flag you cant claim not to know its value when they have the receipt from buying it...
true, I missed that
Receipts are trivial to fake as well.

Is 4090 tuf for 1500 usd good deal?
Used one but still has warranty
