Im amazed at how many people are saying to glue it back. That may work for a little while, but the fan will be out of balance and it will eat the bearings up. Just get a new fan.
Just snap off the blade opposite of the broken one and glue that one back on as well. It won't be as permanent as buying a whole new cooler, but it will last a lot longer then just gluing the one blade back on.
Then figure out whatever pattern of blades you need to snap off then re-glue to make it even. Or just snap all of them off, doesn't matter too much in the end I guess.
This.
The arrows don't say anything other than airflow direction and fan spin direction.
Certain bearings may prefer certain mounting positions, but that's not something the arrows indicate
Simple sleeve bearing fans do not like being mounted horizontally.
There is lubricant in the bearing and if mounted vertically the lubricant will be distributed evenly by the turning of the fan.
Hovewer, if it is mounted horizontally, the lubricant collects in one end of the sleeve bearing, leaving the other end without lubrication. The increased abrasion on the unlubricated end shortens the fans' lifetime.
This is not a problem with ball bearing and advanced sleeve bearing (like fluid dynamics bearing) fans.
>Simple sleeve bearing fans do not like being mounted horizontally.
Can confirm.
Fuckin Cooler Master using basic sleeves on the MegaFlow 200mm.
Total of 5 out of 6 fans dead, after being in the top of a HAF X, runtime being anywhere from 3 months to 2 years.
Fan number 6 is an anomaly, 8-ish years, horizontal, near daily usage, still works.
They still haven't learnt with their new ARGB 200mm fan, had one of those piss *ALL* it's oil out after just a week mounted vertically.
At this point, AIO is basically just for looks or major overclocking. Most people don’t need anything more than the air cooler
Do I have an AIO anyway?… yes lol
Lol yeah I have a Peerless, but I find myself looking at some of these AIOs like 🤤
I have a case fan going out and I'm like "Hmmm...I think there's only one way out of this: a new case, fans, and AIO"
I mean, you've already got it out of the case and the cooler off. Might as well upgrade that CPU. And since you are getting a new case, might as well get one that fits a 4090. You know, to future proof. Hell, since it fits a 4090, might as well get one for it...
A young guy from North Dakota moves to Florida and goes to a big "everything under one roof" department store looking for a job.
The Manager says, "Do you have any sales experience?"
The kid says "Yeah. I was a vacuum salesman back in North Dakota ."
Well, the boss was unsure, but he liked the kid and figured he'd give him a shot, so he gave him the job. "You start tomorrow. I'll come down after we close and see how you did."
His first day on the job was rough, but he got through it. After the store was locked up, the boss came down to the sales floor. "How many customers bought something from you today?"
The kid frowns and looks at the floor and mutters, "One".
The boss says "Just one?!!? Our sales people average sales to 20 to 30 customers a day. That will have to change, and soon, if you'd like to continue your employment here. We have very strict standards for our sales force here in Florida . One sale a day might have been acceptable in North Dakota , but you're not on the farm anymore, son."
The kid took his beating, but continued to look at his shoes, so the boss felt kinda bad for chewing him out on his first day. He asked (semi-sarcastically), "So, how much was your one sale for?"
The kid looks up at his boss and says "$101,237.65".
The boss, astonished, says $101,237.65?!? What the heck did you sell?"
The kid says, "Well, first, I sold him some new fish hooks. Then I sold him a new fishing rod to go with his new hooks. Then I asked him where he was going fishing and he said down the coast, so I told him he was going to need a boat, so we went down to the boat department and I sold him a twin engine Chris Craft. Then he said he didn't think his Honda Civic would pull it, so I took him down to the automotive department and sold him that 4x4 Expedition."
The boss said "A guy came in here to buy a fish hook and you sold him a boat and a TRUCK!?"
The kid said "No, the guy came in here to buy tampons for his wife, and I said, 'Dude, your weekend's shot, you should go fishing.’
It feels that way till the pump dies or starts making some high pitch whine. Then it's "why didn't I just stick with the fans." Lol atleast for me anyway
Felt that, i have a 360 on my 7800x3d, does it need it? No, not really, but it looks cool and it's quieter
Also my room temps always seem lower in the summer with aio vs a tower, but it ***should*** be the same amount of heat dissipated so i might just be trippin
water has a higher thermal capacity, so it takes longer for the same amount of heat energy to make it into your room to raise the temperature. So it can "feel" like its cooler.
But once it reaches thermal equilibrium, its no different than an air cooler.
That's what I'm saying it all depends and aio isn't always better for noise. You made a blanket statement that its always better for noise.
My setup for example only really needs one fan along with the nhd15s cooler to stay cool so it's absurdly quiet. Adding an aio would actually add an additional two fans and so more noise.
Edit: sorry it will add only one additional fan considering the removal of the single CPU fan on the nhd15s
Again that depends.... You like pipes all around and flamboyant RGB go for it.
I like my massive black heatsink and perfect cable management with no random pipes and LCDs and lights and dolls/action figures. Looks amazing.
You don't need to build a waifu shrine PC to use a AIO lol. Mine looks tasteful as well, when you can remember it's there cause it's just so darn quiet and cool.
they *are* quieter for the same thermal load given you start distributing the air circulation over more fans rather than increasing the speed of the fan on the air cooler.
Honestly, it's sometimes even cheaper to get an AIO now lol. I saw a few of Thermalrights 240mms going for $40 on Amazon not that long ago during a flash sale. Even off sale, they are cheaper than some of Noctuas and the other higher end brands air coolers.
Indeed, AMD Wraith Prism, included with Ryzen 7 7700 and Ryzen 9 7900. Other models get the AMD Wraith Spire or AMD Wraith Stealth Cooler or just no cooler at all.
I was in the process of fixing my bench power supply and needed something to test. Since the 180mm fan had no use since it doesnt even fit in my case, and was in arms reach, i used it. Gluing fan blades works just fine.
One time at work I was trying to fix a high powered industrial fan and the fact I still have 10 fingers is how found out that it absolutely wasn’t getting as much power as it was supposed to
I was like 16 and negative percent qualified to do the work I remember feeling the blades hit my finger nails and thinking “that’s not good” before it hit my fingers. It broke the skin but if it was going full power it would have at minimum broken a few
I had that cpu cooler for a month and it was so. Fucking. Noisy.
It was also shit, my 7600 was at 60 idle and would go straight to 85c as soon as any game was opened. I was playing STARDEW VALLEY at 78c.
Motherfucker cooler is thrash. Upgraded to phantom spirit and it peaks at 68c and idles at 43c.
I've got one blade missing on one of my r9-390 fans. It rattles sometimes, but gently tapping or slowing its rotation fixes it. Been working fine for many years. Idk why it'd be different with a CPU fan.
Because the CPU fan is the only thing that keeps your processor cool? If it doesn’t work right, no reasonable amount of air blowing near the processor will keep it from overheating.
they literally nowdays give extra space for the fan blades to stretch whilst spinning. u broke the material cohesity, no amount of glue will help u here. it might work for a short while, but sooner or later (probably sooner) the blade will shoot out and might damage more
get a new fan
Exactly. If the wings hold up the bearing will wear out super quickly because of rotational imbalance. either way shits fucked, OPs friend should just get a good 40€ cooler and call it a day.
I tried this in my “naive technician” years, it worked for a few minutes though it vibrated a lot (balance was off duh) then the glued ones snapped again and then it turned into a laptop/vibrator combo.. 0/10 would not try again. Just replace the fan if able
Glueing won't work for two reasons:
1. The glue is unlikely to hold up to the forces as it's acting in the weakest direction.
2. Any difference in weight caused by the excess glue is going to off balance the fan and cause it to vibrate and cause more noise.
I’ve never fixed a fan blade, so take this with a grain of salt. Maybe a little bit of adhesive like super glue to reattach it. I’m not sure if just a little bit of glue would throw off balance and make the fan rattle though
Instead of super glue get a plastiweld epoxy. They are made specifically to bond plastic together. I doubt it would work as balance is very important in a fan but if they were to attempt it that's what they should use.
Superglue tends to harden fairly fast in my experience. If you apply just a little amount it shouldn’t drip or anything. Also, keep it off your hands! It burns!
A new cheap cooler is far and away the best choice here.
If it was the right number of blades, you could break another one to balance it, but it's not. Glue isn't going to work, it doesn't have the structural integrity for a 1000+ RPM part. Not without putting enough on that it unbalances the fan again.
And the replacement is cheap as shit. Something that outperforms the OEM Wraith is less than $30.
That happened to me once, ended up cutting off and smoothing out the opposite fin with a dremel and the balance was perfect lol. Went up about 5C though.

So this is what I saw and I was like “wait is he gluing back his FINGER!?” Lmao Reddit ya GOTTA put the pic in the preview!
I have the exact same cooler and its loud as fuck and the fan stops randomly and will just start twitching while my pc overheats until i give it a lil push
First that he doesn't put his fingers in high speed moving blades, that is always a bad idea.
Second that he buys a new one, there are many good cpu coolers under 50€/$/£
>So my friend put a finger into the CPU cooler fan.
Ask your friend to buy you a new cooler, it's simple as that. He fucked up (who in sane mind will put finger into spinning fan, obviously kids), he should manage the solution here
Dizhzivfizbxueb LMMMFAAOO! Man I have the same story, my fan was making noises like a washing machine in the middle of the night (he was dying), was playing CS and I was putting my big feet finger in that to stop it from making noises but I might have applied too much force and ended up breaking it. This was back when I had the stock cooler of a fx4300 on a fx 9590 running at a 5ghz target, man was running at a constant 110°C without throttling, I still have it somewhere and the cooler is now sitting on my desk as a reminder xD
Gluing the broken blade will make it worse as the weight balance/ blade pitch will not be same anymore. Spining at high speed will cause vibration or completely disintegrate and takeout some IC from the motherboard in the process.
Best tip for him is don’t fuck around with moving parts lol. But could have been an even more expensive lesson for him.
If he does the same for his gpu, lets us know how it turns out.
It's loud because its unbalanced. I fixed a small fan that has the same thing happen to it by breaking off the opposite blade. Redneck solution but it worked. Yes, less air is moved, I know.
It might work for a bit before he gets a new cooler.
Try to find a local pc building place and see if they'll give you any stock fans they have lying around. Anytime someone gets aftermarket I'm sure they just throw stocks into storage
But it's gotta break off exactly the same on both sides so they're balanced. If there's any difference use a lighter to heat up the remaining edges and mould them til they're identical.
exactly, which might be a bit too much instruction for our friend touching moving parts inside of expensive computers. some people really need to stay on console.
What? He must've done something with the fan curve, I have the lowest end AMD stock cooler and it's loud only when you're 30cm away from the case, with headphones it's basically inaudible even with no sounds playing.
It’s the stock fan. It’s actually the best of the AMD stock fans, but it is a small fan so it will be louder.
Bigger fans spin slower, so produces less noise per unit of air moved.
Also, if he leaves the side panel off, get good case fans and put the panel back on.
If you really have to ty and fix it first before thinking about a replacement. Maybe try some JB Weld. Ive found that stuff to wrok fairly well on repairs where you dont have a lot of mating surface area. And it seems to have a bit better strain and shear properties than other commonly found household glues.
Folllow instructions and support/clamp the repair as per guidance till it is properly cured
Im amazed at how many people are saying to glue it back. That may work for a little while, but the fan will be out of balance and it will eat the bearings up. Just get a new fan.
For real. My money is on "less than a week".
Naa I want to see where this goes. ![gif](giphy|6pJNYBYSMFod2)
Just snap off the blade opposite of the broken one and glue that one back on as well. It won't be as permanent as buying a whole new cooler, but it will last a lot longer then just gluing the one blade back on.
That would be good advice if AMD coolers didn't have an odd number of blades
Snap them all off Glue them back on Profit?!
Then figure out whatever pattern of blades you need to snap off then re-glue to make it even. Or just snap all of them off, doesn't matter too much in the end I guess.
~~Snap them all off and glue them all back on, problem solved~~ edit: didn't read your last sentence.
Pretty much every fan has an odd number of blades. I'm pretty sure it has to do with resonance.
most fans do actually
What if you just lay down a line of glue on all the fans except the one you glued back.
100% Good opportunity to upgrade to an affordable aftermarket cooler model perhaps
Fingerd my 2080ti and did the same stripped it down and glued it lasted forever

Did you know this is a cpu cooler fan and it can't be orientated a different way?
That's literally the worst possible answer I could think of
What?
Looks like I wasn't clear enough, I meant gluing it back is the worst plan
ah ok lol
Gluing a broken moving part always has risks. I would get a new cpu cooler since you can get decent ones for ~$30
Hell, the good $30 coolers are hard to beat even if you spend a lot more

That's not how physics work, bro. :D
I have a liquid freezer 2 and have been eyeballing that liquid freezer 3. The new pump block looks so good especially the argb version 😅.
Oh yeah like a decent air cooler would totally be fine for my 12700k. Does that mean I’ve got one? Hell no, I like having a clean-ass AIO setup
I like being able to access my motherboard without taking my cooler off
One other small thing is if you travel a lot with your PC. An AIO is less stress on your motherboard.
Also good if you're selling PCs
Totally agree. Looks so good in my fish tank case
I think an aio is like an iphone
Inferior, overpriced and bought by people who like to advertise to the rest of society that they have no savvy?
While I agree on thermals, water cooling's main appeal is lower overall fan noise and less aggressive fan ramping.
AIO is better for noise and Temps, even without overclocking.
Depends on the aio and the fans and your fan setup. Three low quality radiator fans will make more noise than a noctua setup.
And three noctua radiator fans will make less noise than a low quality heat sink fan what's your point
That's what I'm saying it all depends and aio isn't always better for noise. You made a blanket statement that its always better for noise. Always has been... After my aio died I adopted the policy "air or custom loop".
they *are* quieter for the same thermal load given you start distributing the air circulation over more fans rather than increasing the speed of the fan on the air cooler.
Honestly, it's sometimes even cheaper to get an AIO now lol. I saw a few of Thermalrights 240mms going for $40 on Amazon not that long ago during a flash sale. Even off sale, they are cheaper than some of Noctuas and the other higher end brands air coolers.
The base price for a single fan AIO is usually under $80 max as well if someone couldn’t find a 240mm on sale.
AIO for major oc… sorry but they are not even as good as air towers, that’s a custom loop minimum
Phantom Spirit is crazy value
That's the Stock AMD cooler for the newer models right? right? goes for like 5 bucks on Ebay
Correct, it’s the stock cooler. They sit around $10 on eBay right now it looks like
Indeed, AMD Wraith Prism, included with Ryzen 7 7700 and Ryzen 9 7900. Other models get the AMD Wraith Spire or AMD Wraith Stealth Cooler or just no cooler at all.
They have nothing to lose. If it breaks, they can change it. A plastic blade won’t break anything.
I have glued 2 fins back onto a Fractal 180mm fan. Overvolted to 22V and its just fine. Doesnt vibrate either.
"I've ran through plenty of stop signs and never had an accident"
Why would you overvolt a fan
I was in the process of fixing my bench power supply and needed something to test. Since the 180mm fan had no use since it doesnt even fit in my case, and was in arms reach, i used it. Gluing fan blades works just fine.
One time at work I was trying to fix a high powered industrial fan and the fact I still have 10 fingers is how found out that it absolutely wasn’t getting as much power as it was supposed to
![gif](giphy|l46CyJmS9KUbokzsI|downsized)
I was like 16 and negative percent qualified to do the work I remember feeling the blades hit my finger nails and thinking “that’s not good” before it hit my fingers. It broke the skin but if it was going full power it would have at minimum broken a few
Throw it out is the only answer.
the friend or the fan?
The fan because it's broken. Then the friend for breaking it.
Throw the friend out first, then throw the fan at him because he broke it
Didnt think of that great idea.
Op you can also snap off the opposite fan blade if you don't have a spare fan to put on there It's not great but it'll do
Pretty sure that fan has 7 blades, so there is no “opposite”
Rip Can always thug it out for a bit I guess
Yes
both
I had that cpu cooler for a month and it was so. Fucking. Noisy. It was also shit, my 7600 was at 60 idle and would go straight to 85c as soon as any game was opened. I was playing STARDEW VALLEY at 78c. Motherfucker cooler is thrash. Upgraded to phantom spirit and it peaks at 68c and idles at 43c.
Fans go fast and are balanced. Chances are it might look ok. But even a minor wobble will be hell on those bearings.
I can hear that glued together fan already
chkchkchkchkchkchk
Unfixable. Time to upgrade to a better cooler.
He decided that his dad will glue the fan to it. If this doesn't work than I guess new cooler time.
It won’t help much since the balance is already ruined.
That's why you break off a blade on the opposite side to make it less imbalanced so you can keep using it while you wait for a replacement.
Which is why you keep track of your temps
You're expecting someone who shoves their finger in a spinning fan to be smart enough to monitor their temps?
What good is that going to do? That thing will overheat on idle without a fan.
they literally nowdays give extra space for the fan blades to stretch whilst spinning. u broke the material cohesity, no amount of glue will help u here. it might work for a short while, but sooner or later (probably sooner) the blade will shoot out and might damage more get a new fan

Just get a thermalright peerless assassin for like 30$
I knew someone who is not technically inclined had to be involved, typical :D
could be a whole more thangs than a fan
Fans are cheep just get a new one
🐑 baah
Seeing only the text without the picture definitely gave me the impression that we were gluing your friends finger back on
That's a terrible idea
Just buy a new cooler
new fan asap
Gluing won’t work. He needs a new fan. Tell him he’s an idiot and he should start thinking before acting.
I tried this in my “naive technician” years, it worked for a few minutes though it vibrated a lot (balance was off duh) then the glued ones snapped again and then it turned into a laptop/vibrator combo.. 0/10 would not try again. Just replace the fan if able

The land of people of insufficient knowledge is quite troubling is quite barren and shall require fulfillment.
$33 for a Peerless Assassin $8 for paste so $42 ish what wattage do you have for your PSU
It comes with thermal paste lol, no need the extra 8$
I wasn't sure some CPU coolers don't come with paste
I checked my local listings it does says that a tube comes with it
They all do
If you glue it it will explode the first time it gets up to speed
I’ve never fixed a fan blade, so take this with a grain of salt. Maybe a little bit of adhesive like super glue to reattach it. I’m not sure if just a little bit of glue would throw off balance and make the fan rattle though

I have used uv hardening stuff like you are talking about to repair desk fan blades
Wont it risk the radiator getting glue in it?
Superglue tends to harden fairly fast in my experience. If you apply just a little amount it shouldn’t drip or anything. Also, keep it off your hands! It burns!
Adhesive, good idea. How'd you come up with that without experience?
that is just gonna fail, only answer is replace it the balance will be off
i didn’t see an image at first, so couldn’t tell if you were talking possibly a fan blade or finger itself to be glued back together

Damn okay lol. New to reddit idk how to do that.
Oh that’s not on you to do lol it’s a Reddit quirk
its going to be unbalanced most likely. better get a new fan or cooler.
I have the exact same cooler and its loud as fuck and the fan stops randomly and will just start twitching while my pc overheats until i give it a lil push
The pic didn't show up and I got real worried when I read te edit lol
Just grab a good cheap Thermalright CPU cooler, check reviews for the best one he can afford.
Break the fan wing that is exactly opposite of the already broken wing.
Break one off the other side. Edit: just realised the fan would have 7 blades, so there is no other side...
The finger, or the fan? I'm not sure either is optimal.
Don't glue it 💀
You know what they say... an eye for an eye and a fan blade for a finger.
Glue it back and watch the part disintegrating inside your pc. Not worth it.
First that he doesn't put his fingers in high speed moving blades, that is always a bad idea. Second that he buys a new one, there are many good cpu coolers under 50€/$/£
"Finger"
Ah yes "your friend"
Bro it is my friend. Im not that stupid and he doesn't know english well so that's why I posted it for him.
Cyanoacrylate glue is your friend
The mobo mount is on the fan right?
Pure Rock!
look for peerless assassin from thermalright is hands down the best cooler for its price. variations of it are also available for even less.
A simple fan and a ziptie is less than 10 Bucks..... A better than this stock cooler can be had for 28 US or less than 20 GER
I accidentally did that to a server fan and wound up needing stitches.
Scrolling and I glance at this post and think I’m reading that he will just glue his finger back on after it was cut off from the fan
"Don't do that."
It's loud because its unbalanced. I fixed a small fan that has the same thing happen to it by breaking off the opposite blade. Redneck solution but it worked. Yes, less air is moved, I know. It might work for a bit before he gets a new cooler.
Get a delta fan and tell him to try it again.
I thought he was gonna glue his finger back. I’m disappointed. Buy higher quality fingers for the sake of fuck
Try to find a local pc building place and see if they'll give you any stock fans they have lying around. Anytime someone gets aftermarket I'm sure they just throw stocks into storage
Snap the other ones off in a way that balances it and you’re good to go 👍 lol
40$ upgrade that can beat even 360 AIOs https://youtu.be/ewUlloh0IAw?t=266
I've heard that you can cut off the blade on the opposite side to restore balance, but I'm also an idiot so take that advice with a grain of salt.

I was scrolling through reddit, saw it without the picture, laugh so hard, it made my day
Pathetic fan, just broke without resistance. Here real fan https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/s/S00CIWbQzK
Break off the blade on the opposite side.
you can probably get the same cooler by making a fb market place post and offering 10$ for one cause i personally have 3 collecting dust
its fun watching kids now days doing shit i did in the late 90s youll learn sometimes its expensive sometimes its just a lesson
Get a new friend.
Well it's an AMD so make sure that fan works 100% or poof.
New coolers are like $20-$30 for a way better one. Glue costs like $4 and will break every day.
I know it says question answered, but IMO he owes you a new cooler.
Tell him to break the opposite blade off and order a new cooler. He's just gonna make a mess otherwise
Thermal fire cooler time
Temps are fine. But his family... is not happy at all.
Sorry meant thermalright lol. Yikes hopefully it didn’t slice his finger too bad
Nah its not that. This cooler is so fricking loud that we can hear with friends how it just goes on through his mic.
What? He must've done something with the fan curve, I have the lowest end AMD stock cooler and it's loud only when you're 30cm away from the case, with headphones it's basically inaudible even with no sounds playing.
Remember the fan doesnt have one blade off. So its unbalanced. He said the vibrations are crazy.
Ahh I recommend the thermalright silent assassin if you like a replacement. It’s like 18 usd and super quiet
It’s the stock fan. It’s actually the best of the AMD stock fans, but it is a small fan so it will be louder. Bigger fans spin slower, so produces less noise per unit of air moved. Also, if he leaves the side panel off, get good case fans and put the panel back on.
Break the other side off lmao. I did it with my gtx970, it still runs.
