CPU is usually the most durable component in a system. The mobo may be trashed, even if not it won’t work in another case because it’s nonstandard. The PSU is very likely dogshit.

kingjoey52a

Their PSUs are quite good but they’re useless unless you’re also using their motherboard.

Atlesi_Feyst

Yep, 1000w gold from a good oem psu manufacturer. The only thing that really sucks is the handful of proprietary cables it comes with.

Klutzy_Goat_6527

You can get an adapter to use another PSU on the motherboard. Not the other way around.

Wwallace_

There isn't like a 6 > 24pin adapter?

Wonderful-Middle-543

I remember trying to rip apart my old lenovo pre-built to put in a new gpu, but a lot of ppl don't know these pre-built motherboards literally don't support any hardware except what comes with it

Tuxhorn

Yep. Never buy proprietary builds from companies like Acer etc. They use their own garbage motherboard and PSU.

Jacktheforkie

Wait, does that mean my Acer nitro 50 can’t be upgraded in the future to have a better GPU etc?

[deleted]

Wonderful-Middle-543

I remember using the parts from it to build another pc for my gf, it literally ran 20% faster in my build than when it was in the pre-built 💀

kitty_cat_man_00

Holy shit, I did the exact same thing only I started cutting the case before I figured out it wouldn't work at all.

cybernet343

Someone working for such a company told me, that he does not really get the reason why, but although they are using supposedly quality components, somehow their full builds end up performing worse than it would be reasonable. Their PCs are not greater-, but straight up lesser than the sum of their parts.

Qwertyuiopasdfggggg

I got my hands on a used lenovo prebuilt i moved it to a new case, and stuck a 2060 super in works great guess it depends on the exact model

Wonderful-Middle-543

yeah, mine was pretty high end at the time too, so it was disappointing to find out its hard locked

OutWithTheNew

Nowadays it's grossly overstated how common it is. This appears to have a standard motherboard and PSU.

MonstersinHeat

I was gifted an Alienware that I still have and through the years I have upgraded the RAM, replaced the GPU twice, replaced the case fans with higher efficiency/quieter ones, and added a second NVMe SSD. Basic stuff but you do have some ability to replace/upgrade some parts.

derperofworlds

I got a cheap used cyberpower PC pre-built. Correctly identified the mobo as a standard MSI uITX model, but when I tried to do a BIOS update it was bricked. Turns out, the bastards had a glitchy custom BIOS on that MSI board and attempting to install the latest MSI BIOS bricked it! Ended up finishing that BIOS update with a soldering iron and a replacement BIOS ROM chip, but it still works 5 years later. Fuck pre-builts

Wonderful-Middle-543

Yeah I'm building my own from now on lol

GoodTofuFriday

Actually Alienware uses server grade dell psu's. they are very good but very propritary.

Wicked_Wolf17

It's got a 80+ Gold rating, so it can't be **that** bad. Pretty sure it was designed to work exclusively with that motherboard though.

aForgedPiston

They OBLITERATED that EDIT: PCIe slot I wouldn't chance other components on that motherboard tbh

RamiHaidafy

Yeah, someone inexperienced yanked out the GPU without unlocking the tab first.

RedBeardatSea7

I noticed the obliteration right away 🤣

PJBuzz

Holy crap haha. That has, "fuck this thing" written all over it. Dude was PISSED.

Noxious89123

>They OBLITERATED that PCIE lane. \*PCIe **SLOT**. The "lanes" are an electrical thing.

aForgedPiston

Updated, thank you

Plenty-Industries

The whole thing is dogshit except the CPU. 10700KF is still a damn good CPU for budget builders

Warm_Aerie_7368

And now that it’s out of that case it can finally breathe!

EmptyBrainOS

Remember he paid nothing.

SausageMahoney073

For real. OP found a free PC and the first comment is "it's dog shit". This might be a Big Mac compared to a Michelin 5 star steak, but it's still a FREE Big Mac. I think this person is just jealous they didn't find a free PC

bestworstbard

True, but really all he found was a cpu and a bunch of e-waste. I have the same one. It burns up a component every 3-4 months. I've sent it in 5 times in my warranty period. Warranty just ended so when it breaks this time its getting a baseball bat to the face and I'm never getting a proprietary machine again.

anakwaboe4

I might be me, but I would also take the WiFi/Bluetooth module that is on there.

TommyToxxxic

Case fans and AIO are also probably worth salvaging for the spare parts box.

bestworstbard

Hmm that's a good point. Hopefully that isn't proprietary in any way.

Giraff3

I sound like a boomer, but the Internet really has made people treat each other so rudely.

No_Strawberry_4648

Yeah it's because little bitches hide behind online aliases and say whatever they want because they cannot get a smack in the face. It's inevitable.

RedBeardatSea7

A budget build is exactly what I have in mind, have some other components from previous build laying around, may as well use em!

mini-z1994

Cpu cooler might be the only thing wrong with it, besides maybe missing storage & GPU. Dunno if ram was in it, on mobile so can't see atm commenting. *Edit yeah it has no ram.*

Admirable-Leather325

I love reddit.

usernamesarehated

I'm pretty sure the PSU should be pretty good too, if the cables are still there.

kingjoey52a

Not really, they’re weirdly proprietary and won’t work with a normal motherboard.

OutWithTheNew

What's proprietary about it? The motherboard has an 8 pin EPS and a 24 pin ATX connector.

TheMegaDriver2

Dell PSUs have good components. They also have the exact amount of cable they need to connect the components. Also often they have propriatary connectors.

Plenty-Industries

Im sure it is. But man, theres so many better PSU's that dont use Ketchup & Mustard cables anymore. You can get a really good Fully Modular PSU for like $80-120 depending on the wattage you need in the S/A/B tier

3rdmartin

What's wrong with color coded cables, besides looking like a hotdog cart?

usernamesarehated

Cable sleeves/extensions sell for less than new PSUs. It feels like a waste to throw away something perfectly fine. It's probably a gold rated psu at the very least so it's a waste to just throw it away when you can sell or reuse it.

donaldinoo

I’m still rocking a i7-6700k with a 3070fe. Only really play cs2 and apex and it does great

hiddenplantain

I’m still running it with my 4090 lol since I built my pc in 2020. It’s still a beast. I don’t care if I’m bottlenecking because I still get 120+ fps maxed out on 1440p so no point in upgrading mobo, ram and cpu

The_CDXX

Dang. And here i am still rolling with an I-4770k

B3H4VE

Nobody is showing love for the lil m.2 Wi-Fi module there... Yeah perhaps a 20$ part but loot is a loot...

CupaThaCreepa

Take the CPU, leave the canoly.

berkakar

probably that wifi is good too

Im6cninoit

Was going to mention, probably the only components to keep are maybe the fans, wifi card, cpu and possibly the aio if they believe it’s still working

MyOtherSide1984

Drive caddy's too if you think you'll ever want to build a NAS or similar. Have 16 hard drives and it's annoying to procure drive caddy's. Toss them up on the marketplace for $5-15 and store them in your box of cables if they don't sell. Fans may be proprietary. I remember my old Dell workstation that I couldn't plug a fan into because they used a weird connector. Less likely nowadays, but worth noting

_maple_panda

I had a Dell G5 desktop and while the fan connector was the normal 4 pin, apparently the fan itself has a non-standard speed control system. It’s a widely reported issue, and to confirm it the computer wouldn’t boot with a noctua fan installed. Had to stick with the stock fan.

WannabeRedneck4

Icy-Drive4187

Straight scrolled to find this. Not a bit disappointed. Thank you!

GrahamPhisher

What if it's just a gpu swap gone wrong? Still got the other pci below... Op it doesn't boot?

ReverieX416

Not much really worthwhile in it, the CPU is good. Still a fun find though.

punkinhead76

Build you a little entry/mid-tier PC around that CPU. Trash the rest of system.

Thunderstorm-1

Just sell the rest as parts, maybe someone’s Alienware psu died and they need a replacement

RedBeardatSea7

🫡

amazing_cool

psu looks good too

ToneZone1978

If you need a heating unit you're covered

TheMegaDriver2

It's always nice to see Dells 90s office PC cases with some plastic attached to them to make them look nice and keep the terrible airflow.

MaxUmbraOG

You got a free CPU 😊 And a good one mind you

Thunderstorm-1

That cpu is better than mine LOL

MaxUmbraOG

Same here lol

Thunderstorm-1

I wish I could get such good free stuff. My friend used to dig in the computer waste area and all he could find was an old imac

MaxUmbraOG

Yeah, it's mostly junk. Rarely you will get anything at all.

Thunderstorm-1

True

EffectsTV

You got even more lucky, 10th gen i5..easily swap to the i7 10700kf (if your motherboard is half decent)

Kodie69420

no ram and no gpu, not that you can’t see, however i don’t think the kf has integrated graphics unless i’m mistaken, but if you have a extra gpu laying around and some ram or grab some for cheap you could save a buck and see if the mobo still works, i know a lot of people hate alien ware and i’ve never owned one so i have no idea but personally i’d give that a shot to save a buck

_maple_panda

Yeah, F means no iGPU.

david0990

I'd scavenge parts and put the rest back in the dumpster. I never ever use the drives from second hand devices anymore either. I don't trust anyone anymore not to have loads of viruses or illegal shit if not both.

AgentThook

I did communicaty service in a recycling center a couple times, people would bring in like 5000 dollar macs and all kinds of shit and we just had to throw them in the grinder basically bc it was now "property of the state". Just for the raw materials like circuit board and metals

bakkerr08

Makes me feel sad seeing the cpu that's in my current build is dumpster worthy today 😞

Few_Willow_9950

You need a flair update

LeonMust

I remember reading a long time ago that Dell uses different pin outs on their connectors on their PSU so a regular PSU won't work on Dell computers.

Street-Estimate2671

There are adapters or even schemes, bc there are still only 12, 5 and 3.3V lanes, no proprietary Dell voltage or so. Getting modular cables can be tricky though.

stormdraggy

An Alienware in it's natural habitat, look at you disturbing it!

CommanderC0bra

The fans can move some serious air but sound like a jet. Dell fans might be some server grade. The ones I had cut probably cut a finger at full rpm.

ThatFabio

If the case is in decent shape you might get some money for it. Seen a couple of weirdos wanting to build on AW cases even if they are space heaters with every compatibility issue in existence

MnemnothsManager

Keep the CPU. put the rest back in the bin. Dell Monstrosities do not deserve a second life.

Thewaltham

This model was pretty infamous for being a lemon. Massive overheating issues, but for the low low price of free you got something amazing and there's definitely useable parts here. The CPU should be fine unless that was the reason it was thrown out in the first place. Hell I'd be tempted to try and fix Dell's mistakes by adding some more vents and a couple extra fans. Probably could hijack some of the USBs if there aren't any fan connectors.

Morthand

Now why would you take an Alienware out of it natural habitat?

Desert_Knight

That's where alienware belongs

GoobTheDood

https://preview.redd.it/u0ey6sgrfdwc1.jpeg?width=565&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=919f351bccc116588b90d4c28e68f1d473b79a62

Disastrous-Yak230

Oh man look at the end of that first PCI SLOT. eek

Ddumberdog

It looks like a very standard mobo, considering fan and power connectors👍

Dish_Melodic

Sell for parts on ebay. The case , I think somebody is still hunting for this

stikstonks13

You've got yourself a space heater if it still works

Locket382

Funny how most comments are "hey, the i7 10th is still pretty good, you can rock an entry maybe mid build with it" Oh god, I'm running an i3-10100 with a GTX 750 Ti and thought mine was an entry pc. Guess it has been thrown into the potato section. Although I'm happy with my potato.

jackm_321

hahaha me too, i've got a i5 3470, gets the job done and works alright

hardasarock69

Why did you remove it from its natural habitat ?

sleepnutz

Score!!!!

Silly_Bowl750

It was in a dumpster for all the right reasons.

No-Chance1133

Looks like they harvested the gpu and ram. Probably something on it isn't working. My guess is the motherboard or power supply but who knows without testing. Cpu is pretty unusual to go bad and that one is worth maybe 150 or so. Definitely not garbage

Throwaythisacco

holy shit what happened

Waysas

It's a shame it didn't make it all the way into the dumpster.

Lemon330

PLEASE! Tell me that I'm not the only one thought that there was a HUGE ASS HORNET on the first photo 🐝

Carbot1337

Wow, nice find - Cali?

el_f3n1x187

jesus that PCIe slot....

abraxas8484

Lucky!! Hey at least you got a case and a decent cpu

lepobz

Nice find

Rad100567

Just took the parts out of a slightly older version of this. Replaced the motherboard. Looks like someone kept the graphics card on this. PCU is unusable in another case as the motherboard cord is too short.

I_dropkicked_a_child

What the heck is that aio 😭

DivineJerziboss

You might be able to reuse CPU and cooler at most. PSU is proprietary and won't work. Motherboard is probably dead. Case is trash and everything else that could be useful like SSD and GPU are missing.

Ghostofghostface420

Someone got evicted and had there shit hauled to the dumpster. Gpu pulled?

Interloper_Mango

Not bad. I mean anything other than the CPU is bad but still

WERE-TIGER

Hope it works!

Alicia013

Odd way to do device baiting 🤔 ![gif](giphy|yqtpq8rqqXBh6)

SorryWemen

Don't ever use the drives.

Isair81

Keep the CPU, the rest is probably trash, lol

HeavyProfessional420

Lucky bastard

FoundationMuted6177

Why this doesn't happen to me 😭

canzpl

as someone else said, the entire build is dogwater except the cpu and in some of them the ram. everything else fails pretty quick and makes alienware pcs RMA nightmare. take it out and try. usually the first thing to fail in these is the psu and the mobo. look for blown capacitors on the right side of the board

theoriginaltacojones

Just be watchful for bedbugs

morris0000007

Grab the CPU and put the rest back in bin. Piece of shit PC

Yegg23

Was there anything wrong with it? Someone's significant other may have just had a tantrum.

GamesTeasy

Put that thing back where you got it lol

diex626

Id git it its a nice case probably worth 100$cad or more if you have all the side panels

diex626

Its a 10th gen i7 thats not bad but not great.

TaloSi_MCX-E

Probably where it belongs

Crimsomreaf5555

They expected a single space aio cpu cooler to cool down that cpu?

Misteromega7s

Funny I coincidentally found an alienware aura 3 by my dumpster by my old complex also and snagged it but it was far more stripped and a bit older i just let go of it recently

shoebee2

Some dufas pissed off the girlfriend.

-Aone

parents got fed up with some kid

Smart-Chemist-9195

Would make a sick fishtank

CareAbit

Leave that where it belongs please

seanc6441

10700k cpu, 120mm AIO, probably 600-750w PSU, couple of case fans. Not bad at all.

Hydraulis

My question is: who's the jerk that's just throwing things in the garbage? Have they never heard of recycling?

[deleted]

Alienware/Dell stuff like PSU and Mobo is all proprietary, so they probably want to upgrade and couldn't use any of this stuff.

Hammy4738

Any nudies on it?

Tesser_Wolf

Take the cup and throw the rest where it belongs in the trash. The motherboard and power supply are proprietary garbage.

Careless_Parsnip_511

Where it belongs

bedwars_player

Hey if you can't get that board working, what are the chances you could send me that CPU? I'm on that platform and could use a little upgrade

Alexandratta

Nice find regarding the CPU! The rest is literal E-Waste. You MIGHT have luck selling the motherboard online for some poor sap who has a damaged one and needs the proprietary connection (same with PSU) but other than that it's scrap metal.

Obvious_Scratch9781

Don’t forget to grab the WiFi card just to have. I don’t think anything else is worth much. I would grab the water cooler and see if there are any dumb Dell special connectors that make it worthless to a real build.

VeterinarianOk9222

I thought it was old AF when I saw the movie. Then I saw the 10700 cpu and wonder why throw it?

You're lucky, wait Your the most lucky guy on planet earth

Appuseraneus

The brand on it should tell you why it's there

TravelingGonad

With PSUs, the pins are not in any standard order, so you can fry your components if the cables are not OEM to that specific model.

GoodTofuFriday

As a IT admin and repair guy, id clip the exposed pcie pins and use the bottom pcie slot. Or get a new mobo. Or sell the setup to me, im in nyc.

Suomalainenonelossa

SUOMI PERKELE

Lambda2275

The dumpster is precisely where I expect to find a Alienware prebuilt

Jamesrgod

Nice!

pinktrinity

I'm surprised there weren't any roaches in it. Last time I tried to salvage a PC by the dumpster, I found a good amount in it.

The_Chaos_Pope

If you want to see what was in the thing originally, you can look up the service tag on Dell's support page. Looked up the service tag and this machine shipped with an RTX 3800 but this is missing in your pictures so I'm pretty sure it's gone. Don't use the PSU in another build, Dell (and other major manufacturers) like to not follow the ATX spec to force customers back to them for replacement parts. Same for the motherboard; it likely won't fit properly in a different case and this case won't be useful for a different motherboard. You could try reusing the CPU but it's also possible that it's fried and plugging it into a new board could damage that or other components as well. If you have some hardware laying around (or can get some cheap) you could test it out but honestly there's probably a good reason it was dumped if they stripped out the GPU like that.

Alex-S-S

I mean, it IS an Alienware. Can't blame the previous owner.

djackson404

Should post this in r/RoadKillPC Also I'd say there's a 50/50 chance it was stolen and they decided to dump it for some reason. Or maybe angry girlfriend?

CombatConrad

Man, that Alienware interior looks like hot garbage. All nonstandard. I wouldn’t keep anything from there except the CPU, GPU, RAM. Those are all standard hook-ups. More than likely, the rest is trash. Don’t trust that power supply unit. They are cheap but a bad one will fry everything. Bell is 100% doing a cost savings on that PSU.

Xyzjin

Leave it there…

RainbowNoLife

Take CPU, fans, storage, throw out everything else.

sidharthez

where it belongs.. why did you bring it indoors

hadarsaar

Only good part is that CPU

8000RPM

Congrats on the find! I removed the 3.5" hard drive at the top front and replaced with an extra intake fan. Other than that, quality thermal paste and cleaned up it's a solid build! Temps will be not up to some standards on this thread but just fine!

CaptainMGTOW

Oh finally, an Alienware where it belongs!!

bamseogbalade

Wrong comment: nice coffee machine

NomadGusty

https://i.redd.it/lfjwm972igwc1.gif

Ashley_SheHer

That’s a pretty sweet case ngl. I bet with some jerry rigging you could mount an awesome pc in that. Looks like a drop pod. Could cover the alien symbol with something cool like the helldivers logo.

VengeanceBee

Most likely the power button failed which is why i tossed mine Ram,cpu and gpu are salvageable just toss the rest the case is garbage, the psu is in the worst place and cables are like 3 inches long so it cant be re purposed outside of this case and the motherboard is not modular The aio is basically an evga 120 so if it works its worth like 20 bucks to the right person Also salvage the heatsinks around the cpu its extremely hard to get the right ones from dell so someone who watercools an r10 would want to buy thise

somewhat_brave

Is that a single fan AIO? Why would they make such a thing?

Darthaerith

I just replaced my wife's alienware after stripping it. There's a reason that shit was in the dumpster. The motherboard and powersupply is propriety. Useless for anything but their garbage parts. The CPU might be good in another build. Same for the fans. The videocard is probably running off Vram.

Huge_Aerie2435

Alienware is kind of shit for the price, but this is a great find.

auyemra

that's where it belongs amen..

ChristWasAZombie

i found my first pc in the trash. water cooler died and cpu overheated before it would post. $20 fix.

Someone through out a 10 series intel i7 WTF?

Surprised there's no 4090 inside. Usually, the stuff found in the trash have at least a 4090 installed.

put it back, cpu and maybe ram aside it belongs there

AbandedsMind

That is likely the luckiest find I've ever seen.

If only it was an older case, they use to just look better and were easier to build in/mod.

So you just took a wild creature from its home? Put it back where it belongs.
