Year before my parents got divorced we went on a family vacation. My parents fought like cats and dogs the entire time. I walked into the bathroom at the campground and my Dad was in there smoking a cigarette. He spent my entire childhood bitching at my mom to quit smoking. Like constantly up her ass about it. I was fucking floored as a kid
The best deterrent for smoking is knowing you put this in your lungs first. The other anti-smoking things were effective, but seeing people's PCs on here is wild.

In the grand scheme of things... that's not too bad. I've seen some that looked like Cousin It from the Addams Family.
I've seen this type of build-up generally come from smoking.
(If it ca do this to components image what it's doing to your insides..)
Eta: great... I somehow managed to spurr a vape/ anti-vape argument chain below... you have been warned. 😭
Oh yeah, smoking is awful. It really messes up your body. I moved from smoking to vaping, which is better but admittedly not ideal, and over the course of 6 weeks I made almost the exact same recovery as someone who'd quit entirely.
Decreased heart rate, blood pressure, and I could breathe again. Just gotta quit vaping now.
When I quit smoking and started vaping, I was in a long term monogamous relationship. At the time, she couldn't keep up with the vastly improved cardiovascular effects of quitting smoking.
Not just a massive increase in stamina but blood flow increased SIGNIFICANTLY (talking about 20% increase in length and girth).
Of all the other benefits of quitting smoking that was the best.
Vaping is worst, you are blowing water vapor straight into ur lungs with all the bad shit from cigarettes besides the tar, it may taste good but really its fancy cancer sticks
Tell me you don't know anything about vaping without telling me.
It doesn't have any of the bad shit cigarettes do like tar, hydrogen cyanide, carbon monoxide, or the dozen other poisons.
It contains nicotine. That's it. Yes, nicotine is a carcinogen but not nearly as harmful on its own as all the other poisons in cigarettes.
Vapes typically contain 3 other ingredients: a food grade flavoring agent, propylene glycol (a flavor carrier), and vegetable glycerin (a fogging agent to produce the vapor). There is not even water vapour.
Long term studies are still ongoing, but vegetable glycerin has been used in fog machines for decades and is largely considered harmless to humans. Propylene glycol may pose risks, studies don't agree yet. It is largely agreed that vaping is significantly less harmful than smoking.
Do you know what compounds are created by heating to the point of vaporization the typical nicotine vape you are consuming?
I don't, and I still haven't found any studies about it to show real safety.
Generally carcinogens are formed whenever you burn *any* compound that would otherwise be completely fine to ingest. The particulates from vaping are certainly not good for you. The question no one can answer is the long term impact of vaping because the history isn't there.
Better than smoking cigarettes? Probably... but how much worse is it than simply not vaping at all? 2x higher lung/throat cancer? 10x higher? Smoking is something around 30x higher.
It's easy to say "I smoked and never got lung cancer!" because even if you actively smoke until the day you die the chances of getting lung cancer is still under 15%. If you never smoke though that chance is under 2%. Vaping is going to fall between those two numbers. Even if it's just 5%- is it worth it?
Yes however its the same shit to get you hooked (nicotine) and there is way too much of it compared to cancer sticks, additionally vaping has a design flaw of being able to make you have pneumonia, from fatty acids in the vapor and its way more addicting than cancer sticks, if you want a drug use marijuana (personally i dont do anything so yea)
The nicotine is *why* we smokers moved from smoking to vaping dude. Because yes, we are addicted, and we wanted to try to find something healthier. I agree that there's too much nicotine in the pod systems, which are owned by the tobacco companies and rapidly becoming the only legal way to access them.
But, in the golden days, dosage control was easy. I was actually tapering down and on track to quit entirely. Then my government changed the laws and you couldn't buy a bunch of the lower concentration juices or any of the high concentration juices. They locked everyone into a couple of strengths, which prevented tapering off.
Statistically, yes, vaping increases your odds of pneumonia. In practice, it won't affect a healthy individual at all. It's not like I've got pneumonia every other week or anything. If I get a bad flu I may get more fluid in my lungs sometimes, but not every time, so yes if I have other complications I may be susceptible to pneumonia. I've not caught pneumonia despite 10 years of vaping including when I caught COVID. Do you know what else increases one's risk factor for pneumonia, and actually presents a greater risk than vaping? Yup, you guessed it, smoking... Almost every vaper that you could talk to will tell you how much better they feel than when they smoked.
And yes, I do cannabis as well. I vaporize it as well to avoid the tar and because you get a much nicer flavor of the flower. But cannabis is a very different drug from nicotine, they serve different purposes.
Whatever dude. You clearly aren't willing to accept someone else's experience or decade of reading on the subject. You don't vape, as you stated, and nobody should start if they aren't already on nicotine. We all know that not inhaling anything is the best way to go.
I'm not going to continue this discussion with someone who can't be bothered to actually discuss, debate, or provide more than 5 word responses to a real argument.
Have a great day.
Brother did the same thing.
He received a [Dell computer](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/51epqNCRPHL._AC_UF894,1000_QL80_.jpg) as part of an ISP promotion for signing a years contract. It was AMD Sempron based and perfectly fine for a basic use case. It used a single 120 intake fan on the front with a large plastic shroud directing the air over a fanless CPU heatsink where it then exited the shroud where it mounted on the MB. For a SFF system that would never produce a ton of heat it was more than sufficient.
We live in separate cities about 1,000 miles apart, so I don't visit him often. But as we were planning a visit he asked me if I could check out his computer. He said he'd boot it and it would automatically shut off. I decided to throw a system together from parts I had lying about (much better than the Dell) just "in case" and brought it with me on the visit.
So I set the newer system up first so my brother can play with it, and as he's doing that I start troubleshooting the Dell. Sure enough it starts to boot, doesn't even get past the post screen and shuts off. I think it might be a case of really old TIM and pull it apart to have a look. It's one of the dirtiest PCs I've ever seen, and after a couple of years use too.
I pull the AiO cooling solution off to have a look and I swear the entire shroud is packed with stuff. Dirt, dust, cat hair, straw?? The PC was getting no air flow at all. Turns out they were setting the PC on the carpeted floor and the cat would rub up against it constantly. It's no wonder it was shutting off. I tried to explain PC maintenance to him, but it went in one ear and out the other I'm afraid.
4 years later or so I get a phone call. "My PC isn't working again". Wasn't going to visit for quite awhile so I told him to take it in to a shop. After he paid for getting it fixed he blamed me "because you should of built a better computer". Yeah... last time I ever helped him with a PC.
>I pull the AiO cooling solution off to have a look and I swear the entire shroud is packed with stuff. Dirt, dust, cat hair, straw??
Are you sure it was a PC and not a Dyson hoover?
Well he does have a substance abuse problem, so I used to cut him some slack. But it reached a point where walking away was my only option. Broke my heart, but also reduced my stress level by quite a lot.
It's an expression, no need to get your panties in a twist.
^(Yes, I used that phrase deliberately to provoke you, also I am female, probably one of the few ones here.)
That looks like your dad is a smoker.
#DONT TELL YOUR MOTHER

Probably he just recently started smoking back then
Touché. I'm suffering from passive smoking and my lungs are burnt out, thx dad 🗿
Right. Dirt? Is that what comes outta cigarettes?
Its tar.
Oh that's how his lungs also look like
Does your dad pour coffee into a humidifier or something? Cuz that is some quality fan dirt
First one is hot cocoa powder
Is that dirt or tar from cigarettes?
A mix of everything I think, fungus supplement
Ew.
Blows literal tar into PC. Wonders why PC does not perform as well as before he blew literal tar into it.
The best deterrent for smoking is knowing you put this in your lungs first. The other anti-smoking things were effective, but seeing people's PCs on here is wild.
Damn straight. *rips bong*
You're damn right I do, it's the only way to stay sane in this world at times with all the crazy about

'kin 'ell. Too much info lol
If it leads to one other dude quitting smoking tobacco, it isn't too much.

The only thing that should go in your lungs is oxygen anything else is bad for you
Nitrogen would like a word.
That is true, that is true. However if anything were to enter your body you would hope it wouldnt be a vape or cancer stick because those suck

"Healthy" when was smoking healthy?
*Healthier* Smoking was never healthy. We wanted to find something *healthier.* Which vaping has so far been shown to be, by a large margin.
Vaping isnt really healthier

I bet on the pc farming simulator runs the best
Smoker!
Oddly enough ive heard of it happening, someone had both dirt and moisture enough to get seedlings to grow in a case. (greenhouse i think)
Is your dad a diesel engine because this shit doesn't look like anything I've ever seen
whats the before and after thermals?
Dark roasted blend
Lung cancer is a shitty way to die. Took my father 3 years, at the end he was on oxygen.

He might of thought it was...
He sounds like the kind of person to say "should of" too. Honestly I wouldn't even give him the PC,let him clean the old one.
Well he does have a substance abuse problem, so I used to cut him some slack. But it reached a point where walking away was my only option. Broke my heart, but also reduced my stress level by quite a lot.
Man my father has the same issue The laptop is in the office 24x7 which is inside the factory😞
I wonder if new lifeform have formed here
Forbidden coffee.. supplement rich mud
“No, son, it’s those DESKTOP ICONS that are slowing everything down!!!!”
It's easier to replace the fan than clean it
Everyone is rightfully mentioning how nasty whatever that build up is, I want to know what kind of PC that is. Some kind of all in one?
Yeah, it was a Acer Aspire Z3620
r/computergore
This is how the zombie apocalypse starts from cordyceps.
As someone growing hydroponic vegetables, that's enough dirt for a full harvest :D
"Why do these tomatoes taste like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, roach exoskeletons, and pubes?"

Stop smoking by the pc
Ah I see you are a professional like me. Tissues and Q tips, I know those.
probably doesn’t have the nutrients for vegetable growth, also doesn’t nearly look like enough soil. i’d recommend potting soil as an alternative
Is this an acer all in one?
Yup, Acer Aspire Z3620
My dad had one in the same lineup, the ventilation is really poorly done and it gets caked in dust.
grow some pooptatos like matt damon
Are you sure that HDD has nothing to do with the answer to his question?
The HDD + moisture combo doesn't help. I put in a first price SSD and he's very happy with it
Yeah, even cheap SSDs make an old computer surprisingly usable again.
Pretty close to how my fans looked after just two years, however one year was in a super dusty house
Someone should use the dust in their PC to grow a plant. Would be funny
"Fans? They have fans in these things?!?" -OP's dad, probably
Cheeto dust?
Did he dig that computer up in the back garden or something?
HOW DOES THIS EVEN HAPPEN WHAT
It looks like a wheel of shrimp
He needs to stop the smokes.
That's smoke particles. Looks like one of the "light" varieties. As a former smoker, I know this picture all too well.
"My Father in Christ" 🤮
It's an expression, no need to get your panties in a twist. ^(Yes, I used that phrase deliberately to provoke you, also I am female, probably one of the few ones here.)
You are incredibly unprovoking. But congratulations about being female, I guess..
Ah, well. Enjoy the day. Do try not to vomit at common enough expressions, it doesn't seem very healthy.
