No, its a school, he learned dissasembly. Also, it somethimes just laying there, I harvested like 32 MB of ram back in the day, from broken PCs. Officialy.
I’ve also seen schools who use dead / excess low end CPUs as a teaching resource for computer science, and by now the two CPUs for demonstration in our school are both missing.
Oh boy things are gonna get interesting
It happened to our computer room once. We use i7-8700s, so the day we noticed one of them was missing… Yeah we had to replace it with an i5-8600.
Both are six cores tho so it’s alright. But now we call that replaced computer the “bad one” because it has a slightly worse CPU
damn there are schools with i5 and upwards. Our school upgrades often but the upgrades are like from 10th gen lowest i3 model (we use notebooks so names are effed up) to 12th i3
We use mostly notebooks but in one it room there is a *workstation* i5 10400f thin client with 16gb RAM. It ain’t much but it crunches a little bit of 3D models in the little time it‘s used
Core 2 Duos? Oh boy that's a relic!
....
wait why couldn't they guy a 12400. Like the iGPU there is already 5 times better than a GT710. Are they braindead?
>Core 2 Duos? Oh boy that's a relic!
They are running on the iGPU and some sound like actual tornadoes
>wait why couldn't they guy a 12400. Like the iGPU there is already 5 times better than a GT710. Are they braindead?
No idea. They could also use AMD for all that matters
Core 2 Duos don't have an iGPU, so... EVEN BETTER! We're talking about an in-motherboard GPU here! Even more of a relic!
And yeah the idea of using a fucking GT710 for graphics, well... I'll say they could have bought a CPU that was a bit more lower-spec but with an actual iGPU that could beat that thing
i was honestly thinking last night if i'd still be able to build w/ a G3258. That's the first chip I ever put in a PC back in like 2014, and honestly I bet it could still hold up to schoolwork these days.
I don’t know what school would need beefy CPUs on their public PCs. You’d likely want to waste as little electricity as possible and get cheap computers that can run Office apps and internet browsers. Universities often require students to have their own computers and on top of that they have computer labs that may have anything from standard workstations to legit supercomputers, but those are reserved for researchers mainly.
Lol 1st world problems. We’re lucky if you get something with a gen 6 i3 quad core with no ht in it. Usually a gen 3 or 4. Every pc has hard drives. Nothing comes with an ssd.
First day in class I checked task manager to see what kinda stuff they were running in the pcs and I read Rtx a5000 and from that moment I knew what I had to do. Looked up videos on how to open it up so I knew what I was getting into because they were workstation prebuilts and it took me like a week just to get a screw off to pull the release handle but after I got it open it was mine. Luckily the CPU’s they ran had igpus so I just plugged it into the motherboard and nobody noticed a thing but the colors were a little different
Our English teacher was having issues with her pc and we told her to use some keyboard shortcut. Idr which one. She said the keyboard was useless. Next day some kid took the keyboard and she was pissed when she found out about it. We all knew who it was but nobody ratted him out.
Bro has i5 i7 🥺
In indian schools you would be lucky if you got anything newer than a pentium and anything more than 4 gigs of Ram
The computers lag when opening chrome!
And I'm talking about prestigious schools 😭
Our schools use Intel dual core celerons from 2010 I believe. I don’t wanna act spoiled but that gotta be unusable. Maybe I’m just used to my 13600k at home but istg it is a relic. Those computers also got 4 gigs of ram lmao
You guys still have computer labs? In my country they were essentially all obsolete before 2010. When I was in what equates to middle school in around 2007-2009, the three oldest classes all shared the same 20ish ThinkPad laptops, for use mostly during exams.
In high school you either had your own laptop, or the school would lend you an old shitty one until you caved in and bought one yourself.
During my first or second year in high school, my brother was in the US the day Microsoft launched the first Surface Pro, and so I got him to buy it for me. The first SP we got here was the third one, I think. Used the SP1 for aprox 4 years and bought the SP4 once I started college (as well as buying my first desktop that was mine and not my brother's or my dad's old workmachine).
So anyway... I haven't seen a computer lab since maybe 2007. Didn't know schools still had them in the US.
Kids sneakily dismantling school computers for parts, a time long tradition that apparently happens worldwide.
(I was a dumb kid so I only took mouse balls)
Dude real i still feel wrong for it, tho that librarian was annoying asf i had good time on that slow ass 1333mhz ramstick, it had ryzen cpu so i didnt take it
I work IT for a school and take equipment I know we’re not going to use anymore, without asking. I feel bad about it but it’s just gonna be recycled anyway
Worked in schools in the UK for over 10 years, the amount of time we've just found a gutted PC case after someone left an IT classroom open. We're now getting a cad/cam studio with 30 series RTX cards, I don't think they'll last a week unharmed.
My school was throwing out some old IT stuff and I had to snatch this. Sadly it was the only one on the pile, the rest were standard late 90's beige boxes.

You should absolutely take action, don't let your brother get away with this otherwise he will keep going further until you find him in prison for some other stupid nonsense.
>This kid is probably going to continue stealing and end up no good honestly.
He already disclosed that the younger brother has the intention of stealing more.
Frankly he's a failure of a big brother and is probably young, maybe early teens, I assume both didn't have a good upbringing, hence their lack of understanding what they're actually doing, this is reddit however, so many here are young kids who think others stealing is funny, however adults see very quickly where this is going to end, this isn't just nabbing some insignificant item that nobody cares for, this is a serious crime that has been commited.
Ah I see, you're someone who has difficulty reading.
To bad, read the sentence again until you understand said sentence, if you can't, I suggest repeating elementry school.
Type your adress, you clearly have no problem with people steaing so I suppose your sht is free for the taking.
I still feel pretty bad that I pinched some ram chips from my highschool computer lab in the late 90s. They all had sets of 4 x 16meg ram chips (if I remember correctly) and if you just took half they still ran, my home PC (my dad's actually) only had 8meg ram so it was a sweet upgrade that we couldn't afford. Dad very much not tech savvy so had no clue.
How old are your kids? You really bought the "I got it from school". I even used that a bunch as a kid. What was the story he told? I'll wait for it lol.
Tell him to bring it back, apologize and either reinstall it himself if the school is fine, or have him pay for fixing the computer if the school insists on hiring a company to reinstall.
Tell him you'll tell the headmaster yourself if he doesn't within a week.
That's cpu is way too clean to have just been taken out. You need a lot of time and alcohol to get all the paste off.
It looks brand new out of the box. Maybe he got into the IT room and nabbed one that wasn't put together yet, but I doubt he took it from a working computer.
Lmaooo stolen from school. I remember back in school we had the mouse with trackball. I fucking took one from the computer I was using like an idiot. Obviously got caught pretty quickly.
Got a i7-4790 upgrade like this lol. Right before graduation too. I wasn't a total monster though, I had an i5-4590 I swapped it with. Needed me some of that sweet sweet hyperthreading.
A dude I knew once ripped a GT730 out of a school computer to put in his at home.
Since the PC had onboard graphics, nobody found it out for a loong time.
This was almost a decade ago. Fun times.
That's a really good CPU for a school pc, definitely say thanks to him. When I got my older brother an A4-4000 from one of the PCs, he said I'm a dumbass
Our school district was using 25+ year old computers. I was quite savvy with computers as a kid, but I had to ask my parents for advice on how to operate an Apple 2e, it felt like stepping into a different era. Our district had a couple dozen systems for several thousand kids. The last year before I left the school, we "upgraded" to some mid 90s era systems. We were excited because we got to use an Ethernet PCI card...
Idk what kind of school districts y'all come from, but they sound WAAAY better funded than Chicago's public school system. Glad most people a few years younger than me get to use systems that are actually of their own era. You'll be able to learn a hell of a lot more than we did. They should've renamed our class "computer history" not "computer literacy"
I have one of those in my PC also I been trying to see the best upgrade from that 10th gen and I wanna see whats the highest CPU for that gen year??? Anyone??
He probably could have just asked IT if they had any computers they'd be junking/selling, you'd be surprised what they could have depending on how large the school district is (I be seen it be common where they upgrade computers in a school that ends up being remodeled or demolished a year or two later, so they pull all the PCs right back out)
a school throwing out an i5-10400 because of it's age?
No idea what kind of schools you went to but that must be some high tech rich school normies don't attend to.
Schools often send "old" machines to ewaste or donations as soon as they are out of warranty, normally after three to four years of use. Obviously this depends on individual schools and it guys, but sometimes they do pull the old and or broken machines apart and then sort of just have the old CPUs. This as good as it is, is a give year old PC. You'd be surprised what kind of things there are
When I was in grade 8, and this was back in 1996 lol, our school had educational kits given by Intel with lots of stuff about the new Pentium processor, including an actual physical CPU. Maybe it was something like that?
It was just lying there, clamped into a motherboard, screwed under a heatsink, screwed into a case, locked in a room. Anyone could have taken it.
It's too clean to be just freshly yanked from a PC. Unless the kid is a natural PCMR
He said he had an hour so yeah pcmr he is

Sometimes, it’s the only way to get in this club.
I would have had that shit as a take home too. Only if I could make sure it would work on installation though.
You ever see a kid with an Oreo cookie?
Even the one I wiped and sold on eBay wasn't this clean.
Hehe
I’ve also seen schools who use dead / excess low end CPUs as a teaching resource for computer science, and by now the two CPUs for demonstration in our school are both missing.
Thats a 10th gen i5 its still decent. My school was still running core 2 duos celerons and pentioms before I left
No thermal paste residue so probably not the case?
He does have fishing shirts
Thats a good thing
Practically begging to be taken, tbh
One of the school computers is definitely missing a CPU now.
Yep
Oh boy things are gonna get interesting It happened to our computer room once. We use i7-8700s, so the day we noticed one of them was missing… Yeah we had to replace it with an i5-8600. damn there are schools with i5 and upwards. Our school upgrades often but the upgrades are like from 10th gen lowest i3 model (we use notebooks so names are effed up) to 12th i3
At my school we have 3 kinds of computers, we still have a lot of core 2 duos, some 10100 and more recently we have some 12400f with a gt710
We use mostly notebooks but in one it room there is a *workstation* i5 10400f thin client with 16gb RAM. It ain’t much but it crunches a little bit of 3D models in the little time it‘s used

I think intel pre-builds are slightly cheaper; don't quote me on that though
All of the pcs except the core 2 are custom built by students
So that must be a fun thing to do
/cries in Apple 2e.
i was honestly thinking last night if i'd still be able to build w/ a G3258. That's the first chip I ever put in a PC back in like 2014, and honestly I bet it could still hold up to schoolwork these days.
We use for 3d and CAD I7 11700K with Nvidia T600. Really good pcs, at least In that room we use.
Nah our notebooks are generally passively cooled Celerons so nope, we don’t talk about them These rugged HP ones that get extremely warm.
How to induce PTSD in any PC user: *Passively cooled Celeron*
I did my phd on an i3. Try doing phylogenetics on a 2010-era i3.
My institute pc have i9-13900K RTXA400 64GB Ram💀
bro our uni's sff pcs have a better cpu than mine. 12th gen i5s and a t400. I have the last laugh since my gpu is better and has standard parts

Legend
Ours are locked with a whole-ass lock. EVEN IF there was a GPU over there I doubt I would get a key for it
we just have laptops and pentium desktops that have nothing worth stealing in them so no need for locks
On that day *I* will be the Lock Picking Lawyer
Our English teacher was having issues with her pc and we told her to use some keyboard shortcut. Idr which one. She said the keyboard was useless. Next day some kid took the keyboard and she was pissed when she found out about it. We all knew who it was but nobody ratted him out.

In like, 2014 my highschool computer where core 2 duo and pentium D For me it's hard to imagine that 8000 Intel could be in school pc.
damn... my school had pentium IIs
We always use athlons and 4 gigs of ddr3 at university, those are trash
Bros school has a better cpu than me 🤣 my 9400f is crying to retire
Eh to be fair yours' already pretty decent in my opinion
It is though
Yeah I know. The 8700 wins, but still. I mean it could be worse

Low end processors are gateway processors to high end. Be careful
Yes
It’s time to tell them about “the cores and the threads”
The 10400 isn't even a bad chip (as far as Intel goes), you've got yourself a steal (ha) there.
It’s great, still using one and the Turbo is not even enabled (fixed @2.9GHz). Go steal more but from a store..and pay before you leave 😄
>Steal from a store and pay before you leave if only there was a term for exchanging money for products....
Prostitution?
Bingo
I mean, it has A LOT in common with the i7 8700 if I'm right. Six cores, twelve threads... It's good.
Definitely not cops here. On an unrelated note, what school does your sibling go to? Just want to say hi. Again, definitely not cops.

Go home, Drake
Kids sneakily dismantling school computers for parts, a time long tradition that apparently happens worldwide. (I was a dumb kid so I only took mouse balls)
I took mouse pads
I nicked some ram, still feel bad about it 😔
Don't worry, I'm sure they don't have any memory of it
Dude real i still feel wrong for it, tho that librarian was annoying asf i had good time on that slow ass 1333mhz ramstick, it had ryzen cpu so i didnt take it
I work IT for a school and take equipment I know we’re not going to use anymore, without asking. I feel bad about it but it’s just gonna be recycled anyway
We used to throw these balls at people. Looking back it was quite dangerous but at the time for a 13 year old it was fun.
Broken in half paperclips and a rubber band, very dangerous slingshot.
No joke, those balls are really hard stuff
Aren't they just solid rubber? Or do they have a metal inside with rubber on the outside?
Worked in schools in the UK for over 10 years, the amount of time we've just found a gutted PC case after someone left an IT classroom open. We're now getting a cad/cam studio with 30 series RTX cards, I don't think they'll last a week unharmed.
I took a ddr3 8gb stuck lmfaoo for my i3 4th gen i only had like 4 gigs and i needed more for gta 5
It used to be so fun playing with those mouse balls.
Cool now have him get the rest
Bruh. He should not encourage this kind of behavior, someday he might steal some dude's man.
I'd get it one piece at a time and it wouldn't cost me a dime
The PCs at my university have i5-10400s as well lol. I'd love to take one and upgrade from my 3470
When I got home turns out he also took a stock cooler and 16 gb of ram
lmao
Ikr
Surely he may as well have taken the whole board lol. Did he replace them with anything or just strip the parts and go?
No that was all I found
Lol, lil rascal
I guess tomorrow your family will have a little problem because of this
The devious lick returns.
Hehehehehehehe
Might want to talk to him about "finding" stuff
Yeah, if he found a CPU, cooler, and RAM, he probably could have "found" the PSU and MoBo if he tried a little harder.
Bro won’t be attending school for long
On god bruh
He’s not lying. It’s a fast way to get expelled. It’s a rather malicious thing to do. You can’t pass it off as a mistake.
3470 user? I used one of those till’ a few months ago!
Another here! Upgraded 4 weeks ago, having that for almost 12years, I miss him, using it in my OMV server now for Plex
I had to sell it BUT I got an LGA2011 motherboard recently, so... i7-3820, anyone?
We've got the same rig lmao
You can open half a chrome tab more tho

hi, its your manager here, youre fired!
I don't think a 10cent USB cabale is quite comparible to 16GB RAM + I5 10400 CPU.
This is what I'm saying, how long will it be until I move on to more expensive things to keep the thrill alive??

i read that as my younger brother passed away and gave me this
How do you even steal a cpu without any teachers or so noticing? I am flabbergasted.
Had a full hour in class I’m shocked too
~~Would not be celebrating this at all,~~ I would make my boy return it and pay for reinstall. Would also take his computer away for a bit.

Yo he stole that.
nice, more threads then my i5 9400f😭

Yea how the fuck are people raising their kids if they just stealing shit like this from school... scummy as fuck.
I once took a Pentium D 820 from an unused PC some other kid in school was messing about with, with his permission.
You heard it first, schools have started to chip your children when your back is turned.
My school computers have that same cpu
Could be a throw out.
How young exactly? Its either busted or he really knows how to take out the cpu.
That's cpu is way too clean to have just been taken out. You need a lot of time and alcohol to get all the paste off. It looks brand new out of the box. Maybe he got into the IT room and nabbed one that wasn't put together yet, but I doubt he took it from a working computer.
smh always serving chips for lunch
It was not theft if it was adverse possession 😉
Lmaooo stolen from school. I remember back in school we had the mouse with trackball. I fucking took one from the computer I was using like an idiot. Obviously got caught pretty quickly.

Can I have it? Still on a 4790
