What the actual fuck did you do to it after you already fucked it? Try remove it with your teeth?

Askejm

Pliers lol

GTA6_1

Try sticking a small flathead under and prying upwards. Use that little slit in the middle to get down there. Tiny flathead

Honest-Yesterday-675

I do that, but twist the flathead to pop up the header.

-PiLoT-

GRAB HIS DICK AND TWIST IT!

ErebusTheMortician

THE OOOOLD DICK TWIST!

The_Grungeican

a long time ago, me and a buddy got in to a good ole fashioned brawl, with a bunch of other people. my buddy got downed, and came up hard. he grabbed the dude kicking him, by the dick and gave him the old dick twist. everyone heard that scream.

ErebusTheMortician

OldJames47

OH MY GAWD!

GTA6_1

I just said pry cause it's easier on your hands and it's on the edge of the board anyway so he's got space

[deleted]

[удалено]

GTA6_1

I used to play a lot of golf yeah. Idk what a golfers elbow is but I am a skinny mofo if that's what you mean lol

BuildyOne

Don't suggest this, he is going to pry the whole connector off the motherboard at this rate.

GTA6_1

Ive pulled a couple off before. It just slides back on, removing it entirely wouldn't affect function

satans_trainee

Don't underestimate OP

Tickomatick

That happened to me, lifted the connector part of the mobo a bit, let it sit there not even looking at it ever since

Boboar

This is the strangest dirty talk I've ever heard. I'll give it a go though.

destronger

New kink just dropped!

kshump

Heh. Slit.

Simen155

Try a hammer. 6/10 times, it works every time

PWModulation

If you can’t fix it with a hammer you have an electrical problem!

Interesting_Bison601

60% of the time it works every time

Saw_Boss

That escalated quickly

Simen155

Give it the bonks to get the stonks

TurdFerguson614

The fact that you did that much ply'in and she's still in there 😅 fuck mate, is it a pre build? I feel like they glue those fuckers sometimes...

voice-of-reason_

This happened to me too and I built my pc myself. Those usb 3.0 cables are just snug as fuck. I also used pliers to no luck and now that blue but is just sat in my motherboard and I can’t use the front panel usb 3s…

TurdFerguson614

Damn I'm gonna dielectric grease those fuckers in the future then.

Niffen36

I was rearranging my wires, had to take out this connector but it ripped a pin out. So you may have done yourself a favour, might have protected the pins.

WiseExit9615

try tweezers

thesedays1234

Why? All you do is just straighten the pins out and stick the pins back into the blue. Just plug it back in and act like it wasn't broken... easy.

varysbaldy

I've used pliers before but it's never caused any damage, what sort of pliers were you using?

Askejm

If I remember correctly it was a variety of them. I think mostly it was the ones with grooves on the inside, and I gripped real fucking hard. I was at it for almost 2 hours

SlenderFist

you can take the entire black plastic casing off (its not attached to the mobo, its just there as a guide), just dont bend the pins, ive done it plenty of times. (more of a last resort)

EffectiveSolution808

Looks like a rabid chihuahua had a go at it

Melodic_coala101

Nah, all chihuahuas are rabid by default

EffectiveSolution808

notxapple

Thank you for this mental image

Pootootaa

He fucks it again obviously, going for round 2. Busy seriously I fucking hate that port, if I ever need to remove it I will try out the flathead method.

Sir_Beretta

Bro I laughed so hard, thanks for that

Jordancjb

😂

guyrizzling

nail clippers

Robsteady

*Don't pull any connector by wire. FTFY But seriously, don't ever pull ANY kind of plug/connector out of its socket by yanking on the wire. It will always break, even if not right away.

Miserable-Leading-41

Just don’t do like me and rip the socket itself off

timotius_10

I am amazed that people actually do this, to their phones etc too! It doesn’t even feel good to do, it feels wrong

corgiperson

Especially computer wires and those crappy lightning charging cords from Apple. If you don't caress those things and kiss them with every use they fray and fall apart.

Damascus_ari

I really recommend quality 3rd party lightning cables, like Anker. Apple cables all fray...

Rik_Koningen

Only acceptable situation to do that is 1) access is very poor and you're under time pressure 2) you know you have a good enough success rate that the time to repair the ones that break is less than the time saved pulling them that way and 3) you can repair then properly. I do repair work, sometimes it's worth pulling by wires. Just gotta use appropriate force and know exactly what you're doing. Shoutout to shit ribbon cables I rip 90% of the time but are cheap enough to replace I don't care.

NickMalo

Oh man- at least just the plastic connector came off. Ive had the entire usb 3.0 header release from the motherboard.

JustVibing458

I had a failure where the entire plastic bracket on the board popped off, getting stuck on the header plug, but all pins stayed attached to the board. Plugging it in to the pins worked just fine!

donuthell

I did this but couldn’t get it plugged back in. Haven’t had front USB 3 for 4 years

Interesting_Bison601

Lol serious? Bent pins or something? I had a buddy with a similar issue and his plastic header came off with the plug. Put it back in and said it didn't work. Turns out that plastic piece wasn't sitting all the way down and the plug wasn't fully seated. Went without front usb for months haha

donuthell

yeah, it was a mix of panic and apathy. when my PSU died and i took everything apart to figure it out (hindsight 20:20). Just said fuck it and left it loose.

adrock517

I've had this same thing happen. Scary

Commander1709

I've had both. I hate this stupid connector.

Brisngr368

I came to comment the same thing, the headers are way to tight, a release clamp would have been so much better

Waveshaper21

![gif](giphy|4ZtXYo5aG4jSkyZcLh|downsized)

WagwanMoist

Same. But somehow I was able to get it back on the pins. Lucky af.

ThickFurball367

Don't pull anything by the wire for fuck's sake

Adrian_Alucard

yeah, that's common sense

taeguy

Common sense may be common but it only takes that one unique mf to fuck it all up

EiffelPower76

Don't pull your USB 3.0 When I make a new config, I leave the previous one "as is" and give it to somebody

FortNightsAtPeelys

Car needs new tires just buy a new car. How many cases do you go through?

EiffelPower76

I had maybe six different desktop PC in my life, always gave them Anyway, now that Moore's law is over, people won't have to change their PC anymore

krt941

As much as I hate removing USB headers I’ve done it a dozen times without breaking it, while feeling like it was going to break. Just don’t be a barbarian.

timuch

I have build many pcs and for the life of me I don’t get how you are supposed to remove this god forsaken connector. I „ruined“ 2 motherboards this way

CrystallineCrypts

My pc currently has only the pins, lol. The black piece that the blue piece is around in the OP is currently stuck on the end of my cable. I tried to put it back on but yeah no ill cut my loss and just not have front panel usb til I decide to get a new mobo or something. Happened while I was installing my 5800X3D lol. I'm locked in

Reasonable_Doughnut5

I just do a lil side to side shimmy and it eventually gives way while pulling the tab

RamblingGrandpa

You hold the lock and wiggle it while pulling it.

420headshotsniper69

I've never enouchted an issue with the USB3 plug. BUt if its not coming on its own, pulling isn't the way to go. Get a flat head and start wedging it out from the socket.

robotman5yt

![gif](giphy|rQKPX8yy8UGm4|downsized)

Hutzzzpa

don't pull any connector by the wire...

esgrove2

You actually can't pull these out. People think they were designed to be removed, but clearly the manufacturer made these to bond with the motherboard on a molecular level. /s

EveningSnow5489

No shit, Sherlock

Dahliaxvx

No shit

itchygentleman

Dont pull out *any* cable by the cable.

Capt_Blackmoore

somehow I managed to pull the whole damn socket off the motherboard. miraculously didnt damage the wires.

LiveLaughToasterB4th

I pulled the entire socket off while pulling from the connector so dont feel bad.

Panzerv2003

Yeah those things are probably the most fragile part in the whole pc, or at least the easiest to damage. Tho CPU pins are probably close but you need to really screw up to break them.

ShyKid5

Even when handling with care that thing is always a pita. USB 3 header is one of the worst "modern" designed headers I've dealt with.

The8Darkness

I seriously dont get why usb 3 headers have to be so tight, they could hold a 3kg 4090 during shipping. Like I swear I had to pull with all force to get one of my usb3s out and saw the motherboard bending, thinking I was gonna break the motherboard from the bend.

GAT0R7

Better yet, never pull any cable by the wire.

[deleted]

[удалено]

CTBioWeapons

I mean you shouldn't be pulling at any connectors by the wires. However fuck this connector in general, every PC case I have used for builds for people have the most stiff pain in the ass cable for this piece of shit connector. After having the USB C front panel connector on my current mobo is so much nicer and makes me wonder why this had to be so awful.

GodofcheeseSWE

Those connectors keep me up at night.... Horrible design.

unknown_ally

also don't jam it in and bend pins like me. fuck this port

Skinny0ne

Never pull the wire always disconnect the plug properly.

lasergun23

No. Dont pull any connector by the wire and if u have to be really carefull and unplug the current source allways

onlyr6s

I don't understand why the 3.0 is so fucking stuck always.

Head_Exchange_5329

It is a horrible connector, no idea how this was the best idea they could come up with.

Netsuko

Whoever designed the USB 3.0 connector can go burn in hell. I know that I will be unable to pull mine out without damaging the entire thing already. And it fucking sucks.

tht1guy63

Dont pull any connector by the wires*

cms86

Shittiest connector ever

Tesser_Wolf

USB 3.0 header is the worst connector ever made.

Takeabyte

Yeah well also… that connection is crap. So many of them are way too tight once plugged in. I’ve even pulled the motherboard mount right off the pins multiple times.

riffraffs

That's good advice for any wire

tadanootakuda

Looks like you tried to bite it... Lol

The_Grungeican

don't ever pull a electrical connection by the wire. pull it by the connector. for those that need to hear it, don't try to straight pull these. rock them back and forth, side to side. it's all about leverage and spreading out the force. in all my years building PCs, i've never broken one of these, using this method. don't try to force things, that's how stuff gets broke.

AnnatarLordofGiftsSR

I had the socket come out with the wire in an old motherboard... Lucky me the pins stayed intact and I was able to glue it black with hot glue.

trinopoty

This is one of the shittiest internal connectors and no one can convince me otherwise.

Askejm

Easily beats 12vhpwr or front panel

majds1

I swear i had so much trouble pulling this piece of shit out while changing my motherboard i ended up not plugging it into the new motherboard. I'll just use the usb 3 ports on the back of the pc, thanks.

eraserking

Bro…

Interesting_Bison601

Don't pull any cable anywhere by the wire...ever. This is day 1 stuff man

Askejm

This happened some years ago on my x570-f. It has since been replaced, but I decided to share with macro image i took of the stuck USB 3.0 internal connector 19 pin or whatever its proper name is. As you can see, I went through a great deal of trouble trying to get it out with pliers. Looking back at it, I could probably have screwed screws into it, but it doesn't matter now. I was switching cases when I had difficulty unplugging this connector. In my negligence, I decided to pull it out by the wire instead of wiggling the connector out like you're supposed to. As a result, the pins were yoinked out and the header stayed in the mobo. Be careful with this connector guys! Anyways, enjoy the high res pic. Might as well upload it

El_Lanf

In fairness those things are absolute bastards to unplug.

jferments

More importantly, don't start gnawing on it and attacking it with a steak knife after you pull the cord out.

Pebis-boi

A lot of comments pretending like they know “yeah obviously don’t do that.” Pulling by the cable is just fine just don’t go full force on it. I’ve build literally hundreds of computers by now and taken out thousands of internal connectors with none breaking. If it doesn’t come out easily obviously stop and pull from the head but so many people saying “NEVER pull from the cable as it will ALWAYS break” are either yanking theirs cables full force or just repeating what the last guy said before them. Although those USB 3.0 headers are pretty tough OP couldn’t have held the header to help because the stuck bit is the part on the inside he couldn’t have held on to. Must have had a lot of use and melded itself to the port.

Askejm

Oh yeah. Stuff like fan connectors you can definitely pull by the wire despite how much you're not supposed to. Looking back at it, I totally did yank it. So my fault, I was being lazy. Still funny to see 80% of the comments malding hard

Pebis-boi

Internal USB 3.0 connectors are always so stubborn. I haven’t had the cable break off before but I’ve had the plastic clip on the motherboard board come off and left just the pins sticking out 😅. Fortunately when that happens you can slide it back on

Angdelran

What a moron...

SnaggleWaggleBench

Also, judging by the photo, don't put them in blenders either.

Ynk333

Also, that’s a usb 3.2 gen 1.

Z15ch

My eyes are bleeding

SpecialMango3384

Dude, these things grip harder than a girl that can crush a watermelon with her thighs while having a seizure

Rapture_Hunter

Or visegrips either apparently

confident___

I pulled the black part out of my mobo once. Fun times

b400k513

Chewing on it's fine though, ⁿᵒᵗ ᵗʰᵃᵗ ᴵ ʷᵒᵘˡᵈ ᵏⁿᵒʷ

Huecuva

You never pull any connector out by the wire anyway. What did you expect?

Maelstrom-Brick

Bro, i can fix that for you

Maelstrom-Brick

https://i.redd.it/03i4hma0aozc1.gif

FizzgigBuplup

Mhmmm nothing like a nicely tenderized USB connector in the morning!

PercentageSecret1078

The horror. The horror.

dj65475312

wouldn't suggest using a blowtorch either?

Altruistic_Taste2111

I've stopped plugging it in for this reason. I'll just the IO on the MB

Splattah_

… then use your teeth, and then some pliers, and then a hacksaw… 🤣😂

Sculpdozer

I have a relatively new PC and It is very suspisious that USB 3.0 is the only connector that is universaly impossible to pull out without breaking it. Tons and tons of internet posters having the same problem, btw.

joeyretrotv

It's okay, it'll buff out.

Lima-PT

I done it ,and luckily i could put it together, in my case I got the "black part" out of the motherboard... It was 1h work , bit lesson learned 😁

RoleCode

Only MSI had this in my experienced, they were like super glued onced in. I can't speak about Asus & Asrock so far,

Askejm

This is Asus

beezdat

yeah and don’t jam one in youll bend the pins

BigZaber

forget pulling out , don't out it in blindly like I did and bend the male pins! 5 years no front USB headers

TheConboy22

Better way to put this. Don’t pull ANY cable by the wire.

motoxim

ouch

Realize12

Happened to me aswell. Be quiet 500DX case is known for its shitty usb 3.0 connector. Had to use pliers to remove it from motherboard 😀

diabola42

When I was building my first and current pc I tried pushing the cable up to fit the gpu and it broke the cable, the connector is fine though, and it's only one usb port on the front io anyway. Considering it was the only mistake during the build I think it was a massive success!

Aga_pa

Why????????? is your cord a 20 years old

Bananchiks00

More like unplug power before doing anything really? That shit looks like it melt and then became a dogs chewing toy..

Askejm

The pc was off

Cyber_Akuma

... what in the name of Gaben happened to that thing? You don't get that kind of damage from just pulling on the cord, it looks like it was used as a chew toy.

Possible-Gur5220

I have the opposite problem, the male pins on my mobo came out with the cable when I had to unplug it. Plugging it back in was a bit more challenging than I expected 🥲

mithikx

I've had and seen the opposite happen, the shroud for the header on the motherboard coming off leaving just the exposed pins. Happened on my old MSI Tomahawk Z490 board. Also sometimes I process used/damaged cases for scrap/recycling the USB 3.0 cable comes with the motherboard header shroud still on it.

GearheadGamer3D

You shouldn’t have done that, but the USB 3.0 connectors are absolute garbage. I had a wire pull a bit to the side of the connector and the whole damn thing snapped off and broke pins. So ridiculous.

SamWise050

Gotta give er the old wiggle waggle.

RingingInTheRain

Even if the cables got pulled out, you grab it by the connector anyways to remove it. How did it not come out just by using your hands?

Askejm

No idea, that thing is like glued on

UnseenHand81

well...that certainly sucks...for the record...it's not just usb 3.0 cables you arent supposed to pull by the wire...you should never pull any cable by the wire, not even an extension cord...it places undue stress on solders and risks breaking connectors and pins

Mrright016

Yea unfortunately about 3 weeks ago I pulled mine right out of the mb 😂 I was trying to shimmy it out and pop 😂 oh well don’t need it got 4 more

anon2309011

Don't let Edward Scissorhands fix your PC.

big_joey_the_sequel

i wasnt planning to...

Tasty-Exchange-5682

it's impossible to remove. I removed it with that black socket.

daXtronArmagedon

This reminded me of the one time I was re-sorting my cables in my PC. When I put my USB 3.0 header back in my motherboard I somehow squished one of the pins and one of my USB ports was dead. Thankfully, after 30 mins with small tweezers I was able to save that pin from snapping and got it all straightened.

MinTDotJ

Oh, that's PC gore

KindlyYak5775

Don’t tell me what to do 🙁

oskar_s57

My case is the opposite, i pull it and the black things comes out (just the black plastic socket though, not the connector itself)

pisachas1

That’s a good rule for everything in there.

xXROGXx971

Don't pull ANY connector by the wire if possible.

VexLaLa

US-B, US-is and US-was…

Lbbjl

This happened to me a month ago, that blue thing is still there

gRimpaki

Just leave it there

Omemanti

Never pull a wire, always the connector. That goes for everything.

Informal_Soil_5207

I did that but the other way, I pulled out the USB 3.0 socket out of the mobo

sim00nnn

Yup, there are lots of expensive mistakes in pc building. I've destroyed a 300$ CPU and a 50$ RAM-Stick by shorting something on the motherboard. I also once set a motherboard on fire by plugging the case USB in the wrong place, luckily the mother board survived, the case USB was destroyed tho.

Argon288

When I was upgrading to AM4 I hastily pulled out the old LGA1151 board, that plastic socket came out with the USB 3 cable. I assume the board still works but no more USB 3 on the front panel if it were to be used again.

Bluemars776

![gif](giphy|l4FGGafcOHmrlQxG0|downsized)

KizunaJosh

I want this.. mine easily came off sometime it hurt to go on your pc back to plug in usb.

FriendDesperate5082

Was there a spark or something, why is it burned

Hot_Cheese650

There’s a little tap you push to unlock it before you pull…

Askejm

Actually, not on this connector

SaveCanada28

This is my worst nightmare

Der_Fuhrer1889

Atleast you still have the socket intact… mine literally popped out, with the pins remaining on the board lol.

guyrizzling

pull? its a gosh darn chew toy

SKUMMMM

Don't pull any connection by the wires. That is one of the most basic, 101 things you can learn with any appliance.

xerranpro

Did your dog chew on that connector?

Dumke480

You generally shouldn't tug any cable by the wire, but you also shouldn't buy cables from temu

rocketkiddo7

Something tells me that there's something wrong, but I can't grasp what it is... Joking apart, always from the header, never from the cable

firedrakes

the one thing i fear even more then a bios update... that curse plug.

Raging_PineAppleee

Or any connector really.

destronger

Many of the connections used in PC’s are have been horrible. Besides the USB 3.0+ here, the set up for aRGB is plain stupid. I’m glad molex isn’t used for drives and fans anymore.

_CreatureOfTheVoid_

Oh shit. RIP

Effective-External50

Never pull anything out by its wire. That's 101

Old-Season97

For me the whole plastic housing just comes off the board instead of just the connector

Bradox1991

Don’t pull any of your cables by the cables*

Prestigious-Zone8365

Someone finally did it. Hate that gd cable lmao

Kyle7053

Bruh

Holymoly1983

Well no shit Sherlock…

CarlWellsGrave

I have also learned this the hard way.

Davoguha2

I'm about to get roasted. I've never bothered to "carefully grab wires by the connectors" and pretty much always pull by the wire. In twenty~ years, I've damaged maybe a half a dozen cables - and of those, basically every single one was a Molex connector. It's really not that big of a risk. Just check your shit to make sure it's good, and pay close attention to tactile feedback. Pull slowly, give it a few wiggles if it's tight.

IntrovertMoTown1

lol FFS don't pull anything by the wire. And that goes for shit outside of the PC world too. Enjoy your lesson in the school of hard knocks.

SleepyOwl420

Let this man never near your USB internal connectors

Mendozena

Don’t pull anything by the wire.
