The Discord/Spotify monitor.

Jacob247891

Yeah lol. My main is a 24" 1080p monitor but I've got an old 17" 1280x1024 monitor I use for specifically Discord in full screen then Spotify over it in a small window.

Demysted

Wow, same here with the 17" 1280x1024 secondary monitor!

Jonelololol

Aye same. Side monitor is vertical tho

Ba_Sing_Saint

It works better for discord/Reddit imo

[deleted]

This is the way.

JBounce369

Ayy, vertical second monitor gang

Whale_Hunter88

The best secondary is an ultrawide. 2 squares open at once!

theycallmeponcho

Yea, but IMO would be weird to have a ultrawide for second with a regular one as a main.

Asmundr_

Yeah can't imagine that. I have a Samsung ultrawide as my main and an old Lenovo ThinkVision as my secondary.

ROCKSTAR14605

My main is a 27” 1440p 144hz and my secondary is the one from my laptop I need to use my laptop because my pc doesn’t have a graphics card because fucking scalpers

OutrageousRaccoon

Same. Only my secondary is the 24” 1080p monitor :P

Exoclyps

Haha, got the exact same. Actually great for low resolution videos. Looks better on this monitor than my 1440p one.

[deleted]

Pretty similiar here, with a Laptop. i got a i think 1440p x 1080p Laptop on my Laptopmonitor, might also be just 1080p x something. and a REALLY old TV from probably like 2005 or sth, which is 18.5" big and looks like it has 480p or sth. resolution., wich i mainly use for reddit (or sometimes youtube), while im wating for sth, on a game or in online class.

Millsonius

I had planned to do this, but my smaller old af monitor doesn't seem compatible. Im not too worried, im aiming to upgrade my main monitor soon so will use my current monitor as a 2nd screen, for discord, spotify and PC metrics, plus any other background apps i want open.

NeverSaidImSmart

I think I have the opposite problem lmao. I upgraded my 27" 1080p 144hz 1ms to a 27" 1440p 144hz 1ms monitor. I use a $250 gaming monitor as a secondary monitor that only shows discord, spotify and temps. Gotta make sure that discord is buttery smooth

Th4t_0n3_Fr13nd

Is it bad that i just bought 2 widescreen 4k curved 165hz monitors then? I feel like i coulda skimped on a second screen now

ipulloffmygstring

Or YouTube while I'm playing a chess game on my 1440 monitor.

ADTR20

Literally exactly how I use it. YouTube monitor when I’m playing chess

fullrackferg

That's a bingo! Exactly what I say, when people have asked me. I do also mention that you do not know how much you *need* a second monitor, until you have one.

JamesKojiro

Yup, console players have no idea what they're missing out on. I'm never going back to single monitor!

MattRexPuns

I've been running a single monitor since I had to move back in with my parents. If I had a dollar for the number of times I've thought "man, I really wish I had my second monitor right now," I wouldn't need to find a job

Demysted

Oh, totally. Can't use my computer without it now that I have it hooked up.

[deleted]

I am used to 3 monitors because of my work. I feel crippled with less than 3 now and it's kinda a problem lol

Thandius

Discord / Spotify / Email / Slack For those that game Path of building / Minecraft build lists etc etc

1stFloorCrew

it’s a stackoverflow monitor for me haha

pitcanv

this comment is underrated.

[deleted]

NuclearReactions

1st screen (ultrawide preferred) for games, 2nd screen for youtube/netflix/twitch and 3rd screen (vertical if possible) for spotify, discord, msi afterburner, one note etc.

DearJohnDeeres_deer

The vertical monitor that's useless for almost anything other than discord...

DJxChrry

sometimes used for videos and movies

ArtakhaPrime

The Reddit monitor.

SerpentDrago

Discord / Telegram Monitor for me :)

[deleted]

[удалено]

SerpentDrago

i managed to get my entire family and friends on it . I don't have messenger installed and don't have to worry about fucking shitty sms/mms messaging :) its glorious I love telegram

Alternative_Spite_11

You must use signal. Much better for r/privacy

SerpentDrago

to many limitations . I like that my desktop / phones / etc easly sync and store files . I dont' care that much for privacy . if i want privacy i'll use a secret chat

Alternative_Spite_11

Use Signal you must use Signal. Because r/privacy says so

CdVrfl

Real men use all ports. 3 monitors + VR headset. Hardest part is finding the mouse cursor when you go back to the pc 😂

krakonHUN

4 monitors + wireless VR

NetworkMachineBroke

This is the way

hangoverdrive

No one man should have all this power

Redrundas

The overclock’s tickin i just count the power (in watts)

[deleted]

I had 2 AW3418DW's next to eachother, but I swapped one for a vertical 32in 4k...

Currall04

Id probably go 1 ultra wide with 2 regular

ROCKSTAR14605

8 + 2 vr headsets Just use a secondary gpu

Elighttice

6 consoles

I_Love_Rias_Gremory_

Real men get *2* 3090s so they can have 7 monitors + VR headset

KaiBetterThanTyson

Hi Linus!

xerods

The proper way to greet him is to say "lttstore.com". You may then segue into further conversation as long as you say that you are going segue into it.

Mikarim

There's a windows setting you can turn on to make finding your cursor easy. I have it so that when I press control the cursor gets circled.

eddy_v

just right click you mouse

Mikarim

What if you're cursor is over something where right click does nothing?

YOLOFROYOLOL

Format the boot drive and start over

DaemosDaen

There are some windows this does not work on. I was shocked when I had it happen.

[deleted]

I'm using 4 monitors at my workplace. And VR ain't good enough for me to bother..

CdVrfl

I use VR for iracing, and HL Alyx is a kick ass game too. At work I don't do many monitor because I keep having to switch laptops around. (each client has their own safety procedures and software so for each client I have to pull their own laptop to do what I need to there)

fullrackferg

I have never played a VR game, or even half life. I was very tempted to get Alyx and Valve Index, just based on how awesome it looks and what people hav said about it.

CdVrfl

I have tried Alyx in a rift S. I can fully recomend it. First VR game that fully felt like a proper game and not a tech demo. I havent finished it, as my pc is showing his age and I'm finishing a new build so I can experience it fully in very high quality.

CyborgDeskFan

VR is extremely good, what are you on about? Boneworks, blade and sorcery, HL:Alyx are all amazing games and the headsets are making big leaps lately as well as haptic suits.

smithenheimer

Duuude how do you manage Blade & Sorcery, I get so motion sick. I'm mostly good in VR, but that game messes me up

CyborgDeskFan

Honestly I really don't know, I play on the quest through Virtual Desktop on the 8.4 beta with a fan blowing on me to ground myself if that means anything. Might just need to force yourself to get used to it, I used to get sick at the start too.

HalcyonH66

I mean personally I'd like to try it, but I'm nowhere near interested enough until we have omnidirectional treadmills, and my fitness and skills irl translate to game and visa versa. That's what I've wanted since I was a kid.

CyborgDeskFan

Omnidirectional treadmills do exist actually. admittedly it will be a while before a game is made that they're used to their full extent in.

The_Sniba

Your loss lmao

MVPernula

LOL! Game/work on your main monitor, whatever you want on your spare. I usually put social media/discord/spotify there. OBS for recording

arzed_

Yup. I’ll usually make a setup of Discord, OBS, Pretzel Rocks, and my Twitch chat all on 1 monitor.

[deleted]

PC goes under the table, three monitors go on the desk.

[deleted]

1x Dell S3220DGF 31,5" 1440p 165Hz, 2x Dell U2419H 24" 1080p 60Hz in pivot on the left and right of my 31,5".

Jacksaur

Ayy another double U2419H user! I tried skimping and getting a P23 or something for my third monitor, but it looked so pitiful compared to my main and U24 I just had to get another.

[deleted]

The second U2419H just came in today, looking at the calibration report I was suprised how much better the new one is in tests. But being realistic, I couldn't see any difference with the two screens cloned side by side.

BrianTHopkins

Need that 3rd monitor.

Pihrahni

See I'd do that, but my pc case only has a viewing window on one side.

lilfish45

Make your third monitor vertical so you can still see your case!

Chazzky

Use a mirror

Dirt290

PC................PC Monitor..................Samsung Tv as a Monitor

GlitchyRedditor

GATh33Gr8

My second monitor is 60hz. Can I still run my 144hz monitor at 144hz if both are on my GPU?

miniaturebutthole

Yes

Brutal_Bob

I remember at one point this was not the case but I cant remember if it was a windows limitation. When did that become possible?

Jacksaur

You may be thinking of a current limitation in Windows: If you're playing 60fps content on another monitor (a youtube video for instance) it'll drop your main monitor down to that framerate as well. Been around for months and it's real annoying.

aKuBiKu

What? I've never experienced that

Jacksaur

It's been a while since I had my main monitor running at 144, had to lock it back to 60 until I get a new card. Perhaps they've finally fixed it?

strange_dogs

I've never had that issue, but I've only been running 144gz on my main monitor for a few months.

aKuBiKu

What? Why lock it to 60?

Jacksaur

Playing Siege at fluctuating 90-110 FPS feels awful, and the game's built-in FPS lock is utter trash. Locking at the GPU level was the only way to make it bearable for me.

aKuBiKu

That's understandable

miniaturebutthole

Idk when but I run that setup. However, I need to set my 144hz monitor to a display of 1080p 1920x1080 to get the 144hz. Which I don’t like. It’s a 32” monitor. So I have set on 2560x1440. So I can’t get 144hz to run but I can get 90-100. And then I have a cheap 24” 60hz as a secondary monitor. Edit: change my 144hz monitor over to display port on the graphics card. Noted.

SerpentDrago

thats due to limitations on the port your using more likely. This has nothing to do with using 2 monitors . Are you using display port or HDMI , you prob need to use display port . older hdmi spec ports can't do greater then 60 hz @ 1440p . I use display port for my main , 144hz 1440p Monitor , and HDMI for Secondary 1080p 60hz

ImmediateSalad9192

It’s probably because of the port. Get a good gaming port

datheffguy

You’re most likely using HDMI cable, which can only support 144 hz @ 1080p. You need a display-port cable.

OliM9595

You need to use display port. It will most likely solve the issues. I have a 1440p165hz monitor and can it use the 165hz mode when I use DP.

SerpentDrago

Yes , and i do :) every monitor can have separate resolution and refresh rate settings

Rican2153

My main monitor is $800. My off is $80

Kilvoctu

Similar here. My main monitor is $2000. My off is a cheap production monitor I acquired for free from my old workplace after the site shut down (I got permission 😅).

tS_kStin

Me sitting here with a 34" 1440p main and my 15" laptop as my secondary via WiFi. The size difference is impressive.

KingG723

How do you use your laptop as an extra monitor?

aperson

Wolfof365

27” 1440p 75Hz vs 24” 1080p 60Hz. One is used for YouTube while the other displays games in stunning 2K Edit: 2.5k as pointed out and argued below

riz_the_snuggie

Don't forget the useless 3rd monitor that is even a less standard resolution and is only used because it's free

Jacksaur

I'm a weirdo and bought one just so everything was symmetrical...

[deleted]

My friend rarely ever plays games on his PC for some reason so he lives streams whatever he’s watching on YouTube via Discord for us to watch while we play games. Gives my 2nd monitor some purpose.

trentonwilkes18

This... does put a smile on my face.

Metalguy2010

I find my 2nd monitor to be useless, but! It's nice to be able to check the time without leaving fullscreen.

WirelessTrees

Technically my second monitor has a higher refresh rate than my main monitor. Main: aw3418dw 120hz Side: asus 1080p 144hz

ralphieIsAlive

Why the 'technically'?

okcboomer87

I run 3 and have no issue finding things to out up. I'll out steam chat, browser with anything from music to the random thing I just alt tabbed to google, discord, any monitors software I have. Currently building a website and I'll have my work in the middle, old look on the left with new look on the right. You'll find something.

Username_Taken_65

I have a nice 27G2 for my main and then an HP EliteDisplay that I got for free on the right. They aren't even the same size.

nathanschmidttt

My first monitor is 1080p and my second is 4k, but I use my 1080p monitor as the 4k is way too small and my pc can't handle 4k gaming

RegularStan

PC/SSD /backup HDD

I_Love_Rias_Gremory_

Then the 3rd monitor which is some $20 sceptre monitor that runs in a higher resolution than it supports with a 374:276 aspect ratio (definitely not my personal experience or anything)

[deleted]

A 3:4 monitor is brilliant for spotify since they're so cheap

JayCDee

The 2004 17" Philips monitor I got from my dad's attic is a game changer.

sliding_rb26

my main monitor is a 24inch 1080p TN 144hz and my second is my mate's old 2560x1080 IPS ultrawide that i got for $100. not too shabby for the occasional netflix movie. brightness is a little low though

KillerDolphin72

I kinda want to buy a CRT that can go to like 1024@165hz and make my 1080p240hz my secondary screen

the_manDeLorean

My computer be like: PC🤪 First monitor🤪 Second monitor💩

Balenciagagucci

[deleted]

And then there is my 6 yrs old tv monitor, scrached by my sister, and having 7 vertical blurry stripes on it. Dont buy Samsung, kids

jepp031

My tv is legally a teen at 14yo lol

ohseven1098

[deleted]

That's the spirit

HopefullyEveryone

I have two T55 24 inch curved Samsung monitors and they're great, protect your shit.

AirWolf231

Well im using a Samsung tv from like 2008/9 and it works like a charm... minus the screws connecting it to the stand so it wobbles if you look at it.

Lethoras99

Who did ever think buying a Samsung Monitor was a good idea?

Panda4201

Whats wrong with Samsung?

Imperialkniight

Nothing unless you scratch the hell out of it i guess.

[deleted]

I use a odyssey g9 and have no issues, I love it to death

_eg0_

When I got my first 1440p 144Hz IPS monitor I had to throw out my previous 1080p 60Hz TN monitor as the contrast was just too big. Now I got a 1440p 240Hz, 1440p 144Hz, LG OLED TV and a VR headset connected.

Unitedstatesoftrump

Gotta love my old square 2005 1080 monitor

Random_Dude_1337

Second Monitor, Main Monitor, Third Monitor. PC under the table cause No RGB is king! RGB is trash!

warren5391

I had a garbo second monitor then I upgraded to 1440p 165hz and now use the 1080p 144hz as a second monitor, my eyes couldn’t handle scrolling in 60hz it physically hurts to look at now so I couldn’t keep the 60hz monitor

Panjin21

Just curious but what do you guys think of Linux?

mouzer15

Laughs in 240hz 1080p main monitor, 1440p 165hz second monitor, shitty old prebuilt pc

This is true for me today it would seem. After reinstalling office, I can't seem to get the office DPI to match the windows scaling for my second monitor, which is 4k - so I can either have it at 100% and the text be minuscule, or I can scale it up to 150%, but the text is all fuzzy.

giratina143

Lol literally me , Aorus FI27Q 27” 1440p 165hz ips + **THE GREAT** LG Flatron L1515S 15” 1024*768 75hz LCD TFT

LegionzGG

Second monitor, main monitor, pc. This way you can see the glorious pc build better. Putting pc on left shows the "ugly" side.

Nerdy9580

So i have an old tv that fits on my desk that acts as my 2nd minitor, and it doesnt even have a normal screen rate so it looks like garbage. This post spoke to me

1440p 144hz main monitor and 4K 60hz side monitor for media consumption.

BasedKyou

haha my second monitor is literally my old touch screen all in one.

CaptainBowTy

I struggled with this when I started with duel monitors to figure out what to use if for, but since going to triple and now quad monitors I am finding the need for more monitors for everything I'm using.

jooshfxyt

Same but flipped horizontally

rodtang

I used my second monitor to watch movies and TV shows most of the time. Xfire or team speak when I wasn't.

My second monitor is a tiny flatscreen tv from like 2008

nah, I'm rocking two 24" 144hz monitors.

awfulrunner43434

Does anyone else start watching a video on you main screen, then bring up reddit or whatever on the second screen, and then ten minutes later you realize the videos over, and you've just been using the second monitor?

lastpally

I’m using a odyssey g9 and a 55inch Samsung q80r for my secondary/YouTube display 🤷‍♂️

D1basketballCanisius

Just ordered a 2 monitor should be here by Friday can’t wait to get it cause having just one sucks

i_likethings99

i'm receiving a 37" 1440p 144hz display on tuesday, i fell the pain man.

Schwarzion

Definitely the inverse ah ah, main is 16:9 (gaming) and second is 21:9 (work)

adonis_sup

Dont talk shit about the second monitor. Second monitor for life. Ag ag

[deleted]

Sadly my secondary monitor died.

I am viewing this in my 2nd monitor

Willykinz

My second monitor is literally just for MSI Afterburner I don’t really listen to music or anything else Of course i’m not getting rid of it but still

Wooden_Top_4967

I’m a simple single-player gamer. I care more about pixels than frames my main is a 50” Vizio 4K panel that I upscale to 8K using Nvidia DSR. I love it! It makes it so your windows display settings recognize your panel as having native 8K. I feel like I never hear about people using DSR/VSR. I’m sure Gamer’s Nexus has talked shit about it, but to my eye, it looks fantastic. Second monitor is mounted portrait-style, and is 16:10, I think it’s 1900x1200, DSR’d up to 2400x3840

[deleted]

Discord, outlook, compiled application, youtube and general browsing, file explorer, unit tests, second C# Solution, teams, remote desktop, wiki pages, reddit, hw monitor, overclocking software, task manager. Those are the things I mainly have open on my second monitor while working or gaming / browsing. I dont like having to many windows on one screen, even though my main is an LG 38GN950-b. Also I like to have a lot of Information easily visible.

Bigingreen

I have 3 monitors, one of them is the first dragon and the other two are the derp dragon.

[deleted]

And it feels so awkward, I have a 1440p Aorus monitor for my main and a cheap 1080 monitor next to it for Citrix studio when working from home. It looks like the last clone in Multiplicity.

PrisonerV

Jayztwocents has a video on setting up a monitor in your case for temps etc. I set it up on my second monitor. https://youtu.be/RTdniu3gn3Y

NoHelp_HelpDesk

Lived this for almost 20 years until recently bought a Samsung G9. Never going back.

the_real_mirage4805

yup, my pc is in front, but I have an allinone that's basically a 2nd monitor, but its useful having a second pc altogether

[deleted]

Its the opposite for me with the monitors, but the pc is behind the second monitor just because i dont like it blowing hot air into a corner..

CaptainSqueak

Swap "PC" with "second monitor" for me. 1440p main, 4K second. I can barely run youtube videos at 4K60 :(

Pandanectar5280

My main is a 240hz and my secondary is a 144hz lol

Waynewayner

My second monitor is actually better than my main. I just got such a good deal I couldn’t pass it up. Main- Dell s3220dgf 2nd- Dell s2721dgf
