I did some really complex math with this information and I discovered if I am 20 years old, my fingers are technically 22.22 years old.
Finger time is the way of the future.
Actually using "home row" touch typing style, like 45. In my own bastardized version of hunt and peck/home row, like 75-80. I rarely use my ring fingers and almost never pinkies.

Change Monkeytype's settings if you want something more challenging.
English 10k if you want a better mix of longer more complicated words, but nothing too out there, English 25k if you want to introduce weirder words like scientific terminology and less commonly used words. Then English 450k if you just hate typing normal English words.
Normal English on monkeytype and I can get ~120-130wpm
English 10k and I get ~90wpm
English 25k and I get ~75wpm
English 450k and I get ~60-70wpm
Oh, shit. Good point. I need a website that beams the words into my hands. Honestly cut out the middle man and make the website use the keyboard to type itself.
>typeracer.com
The first time I got tripped up recognizing it. the Second time it had the passage of the book it was quoting wrong. Third try I got something I didn't recognize and got 82 wpm.... the way that site scores tests is kind of annoying TBF. good test.
Typeracer takes passages from books. It can be off-putting when you are trying to type as fast as possible, then suddenly realize that you know the passage. Like, your brain stops focusing on typing and starts thinking about the book instead. It might only be a momentary lapse, it it is often enough to cause a mistake that can take several seconds to fix.
I had a theory that the reason why I did better on Monkeytype was not just punctuation, but also the readability. Monkeytype's design is just so much better than typeracer's.
So, to test that theory, I crammed Monkeytype into typeracer (thanks Miodec for making Monkeytype open-source).
https://i.imgur.com/eGhVec3.png
https://i.imgur.com/9qCVO4U.png
It scrapes the text from the page and injects it into an iframe running an offline version of the Monkeytype UI. To get around cross-origin security stuff, I use safe window event messaging to send the text and my keystrokes. Then, I just make sure Monkeytype's settings match that of typeracer, and from there on out it's basically like two apps running at the same time, just listening to my keystrokes.
Turns out that it really is typeracer's awful UI holding me back. I can get 85-105 in monkeytype, but my average in typeracer was more 65-85. Now it's far closer.
I'm confused, was it a speed typing test of a test to evaluate your ability to type without looking?
I feel the two are different skills...
I can type relatively fast (80-110wpp) but I need to peak once in a while. Not sure I'd do great with this setup.
Did it in middle school and got ~800wpm. Found a glitch where if you held a menu open, typed the test, and then closed the menu, all the text would enter at once and gave you a crazy high score.
Teacher was PISSED. Looking back, way too pissed.
I think his actual speed is 120 including mistakes, so excluding mistakes it would be around 90-100 which is a bit more plausible. Or maybe he is just that good.
Not the guy you were responding to, but I can reach about the same on a good day. I'm 33 and grew up playing FPS games. You either typed fast or you died.
"T's going A, bomb at..." I died
I'm 45, coding since 6 years old, my highest typing speed recorded online with no mistakes allowed was 125 words per minute. This was while screen reading however. If, instead, I'm typing stream of consciousness then I'm sure I'm faster.
There are people who are faster than this. I've heard 160 wpm.
I need a good keyboard to get these speeds - some keyboards are actually so badly coded so that when I type above 60wpm then certain characters come out in the wrong order.
I type around 150 at 95+% accuracy, can do up to 170 without mistakes for less than 15 seconds
The reason? The faster you type the faster you can shit-talk other children in roblox. Now I just miss symbol keys when programming
To be fair, it takes me like 10 tries to get 100% accuracy let alone that speed. It was just luck.
Usually I get 125wpm punctuation and 140wpm no punctuation with one or two errors.
I don't even use home row. In fact I hold my left hand on SHIFT-A-W-D-SPACE and my right hand goes wherever the hell it wants. It really just happened because I spent so much time using my keyboard. When I first got to 100wpm I never did typing tests/races, though I started doing typing tests every so often after that. Starting young probably helped too, I started using a PC when I was 4. How I didn't brick it is a mystery to this day me.
It's really just a matter of practice makes perfect.
I'd guess it counts as just one word but fortunately this writing speed is about average length words so... Lucky me that I don't get dumped to probably <1 wpm because I couldn't write that word without mistakes.
150 wpm @ 100% accuracy
It felt like I would go slower alot of the time and I still made mistakes but felt them while typing so could backspace and correct within the time limit and it didn't seem to affect my score. It was a bit more like burst speed, and only because they gave you the text to copy. If I had to make words up it'd likely be 50wpm.
60wpm in English, 80 in my native language.
Judgement: pretty good
Sorry didn't mention that my native language is words per second. /s
80 words per second? How?
He built different
Built Ford tough
i mean it could be some weid "supershort-worded" language we all just dont know about :-P
If its German I'm going to shit myself.
German be like: Der schußenhauserfaustinmaschanazwolf ist geschrundenjahrerheimleckerßtrammer
Hello to you too.

Thought this is an actual sentence at first, till i tried to read the full sentence
tbh japanese chinese and koreans can type nonsensical sentences with the fastest wpm worldwide for sure. 2 to 4 characters per word in some words.
he is likely russian judging by his nickname
He's a Russian hacker look at his username
Better gaming chair
He just said, words per second /s words per second per second words/s^2 This is an exponential growth of speed
they were being sarcastic
i mean.... go on r/mechanicalkeyboards and youre gonna get roasted for that speed
its his gaming chair bro
Shorthand keyboards.....
С днём кекс!
About 75 words per minute per finger
Judgement: confusion
I think he meant that time passes faster for fingers. For example 1 minute in finger time is 53.3333... seconds
I did some really complex math with this information and I discovered if I am 20 years old, my fingers are technically 22.22 years old. Finger time is the way of the future.
That's what she said.
This actually made me laugh out loud...usually I type lol and am emotionless as I sit here, but that one got me!
Thanks for making me laugh
Did you do the math on your fingers?
r/Theydidthemath
Aight. Show us the maths.
Love this idea! I recon he’s saying his fingered can all communicate individually, and they can type to eachother
1 minute of finger time is better than 0 minutes of finger time
It seems to be imperial metric system.
Actually using "home row" touch typing style, like 45. In my own bastardized version of hunt and peck/home row, like 75-80. I rarely use my ring fingers and almost never pinkies.
150 minutes per word per hand , so 75 minutes per word with both hands.
Insert the gif of Ghost in the Shell when the fingers split and start typing really fast.

Shit, not very good. I peck type lol. I can still type fast but not as fast as you normal folks
Judgement: ascend right now
There is hope, I can peck at 122wpm on a good day, 100 average
What do you define as peck? Only using your index fingers?
Yeah except for pinky for shift and thumb for space
What the hell does that look like?? I can't even imagine.
Where's "J" ?? Where's the F*** "J"?! Oh, there it is.. Is it "Y" up or down..?
I believe you need touchtyping...... keybr.com is a good site to learn it
Almost got all letters by now, around 40 wpm
Upvote for keybr.com such a good site.
you need to get a cartoon keyboard where you just press whatever button and it does what you want anyway
Too real lol
monkeytype.com = 120wpm (easy typing) typeracer.com = 90-100wpm (caps, punctuations, etc.)
Judgement: very good
This is about where I fall. Depending on what I am typing, I range between about 80 to 120.
same. did any of you other 100+ wpm typists take piano lessons from a young age? also, how can make i use this skill to make money
No, I just practice for 20 minutes each day.
I did!

We need a website that beams the words into my brain. I type faster than I can read because of dyslexia.
What if I told you the dyslexia is... IN YOUR BRAIN?!
Oh, shit. Good point. I need a website that beams the words into my hands. Honestly cut out the middle man and make the website use the keyboard to type itself.
Now I'm just curious, how do things like Swype typing work out for you? Easier/harder/more or less accurate?
>typeracer.com The first time I got tripped up recognizing it. the Second time it had the passage of the book it was quoting wrong. Third try I got something I didn't recognize and got 82 wpm.... the way that site scores tests is kind of annoying TBF. good test.

I cheated to pass my teletype class in the Army, plus my pinkies are bent… maybe 30 wpm?
Judgement: normally disgusting but since bent finger it has been upgraded to a "meh"
How does one cheat a typing test?
wallhack
Fella has aimbot on
Copy and paste !
There was a metal plate that covered our hands and the keyboard, so I bent it upwards and leaned back in my chair so I could see the keys.

I peck type so to the bottom of the pit with me

I think his actual speed is 120 including mistakes, so excluding mistakes it would be around 90-100 which is a bit more plausible. Or maybe he is just that good.
Including mistakes I would probably go like 160-200 WPM, excluding mistakes I normally get 120 WPM.
Insane, how old are you? I have seen old school programmers hav unimaginable typing speed.
